NAPOLEON -- Warren H. Wentz, 63, Napoleon, died Nov. 2, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnne; two daughters, Deborah Wentz, Bismarck, and Lori Willson, Bismarck; three sons, Bruce, Napoleon, Scott, Fargo, and Mark, Grand Forks; his mother, Lucy Wentz, Bismarck; three brothers, Ralph, Lodi, Calif., Gordon, Hazelton, and Terry, Rugby; and two sisters, Carol Moser, Medina, and JoAnn Schumacher, Regan. Gilbert Bernhardt
TUTTLE -- Gilbert Bernhardt, 63, Tuttle, died Nov. 3, 1996, in his home. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Lincoln Anderson
FINLEY -- Lincoln R. Anderson, 76, Finley, died Oct. 31, 1996, in his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Finley Lutheran Church, with burial in Finley Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, James, Mandan; two brothers, Sherman, MontRose, Minn., and Gunder, Minneapolis; and one sister, Wanda Schulz, Minneapolis. (Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille)

Brandis Grey Bear
Brandis John Grey Bear, the infant son of Luci Grey Bear, Fort Yates, and Stephen John Whiteman Jr., Bismarck, was stillborn, Oct. 31, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with burial in Grey Bear Family Cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Luci; his father, Stephen; his grandparents, Joseph and Emma Grey Bear, Fort Yates, and Steve Whiteman Sr., Lame Deer, Mont.; and one sister, Rikki Grey Bear, Fort Yates. (Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge, S.D.)

Jerry Horack
WILLISTON -- Jerry Horack, 65, Williston, died Nov. 2, 1996, in a Minot hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Delbert Kelley
VALLEY CITY -- Delbert M. Kelley Jr., 63, Valley City, died Nov. 2, 1996, in Mahnomen, Minn. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City, with burial in Memory Gardens, Valley City.

He is survived by four sons, Scott, Denver, David, Steven and Ronald, all of Valley City; three daughters, Sharlene Lyter, Sanborn, Diane Carlsen, Quin Rocks, Australia, and Robin Berry, Orange, Calif.; and one sister, Kathleen Carlson, Bismarck. Irene Maier
LINTON -- Irene Rose Maier, 69, Linton, died Nov. 2, 1996, at her home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, with the Rev. Jeffrey Zwack officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Irene was born Sept. 19, 1927, at Bisbane, the daughter of Christ and Frances (Dietz) Kuntz. She attended school in Linton, Christy's Beauty School in Bismarck and did beauty work in her home for a number of years. She married Victor Maier, Sept. 21, 1947, at Bismarck. She continued to do beauty work in her home.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Strasburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Her hobbies were reading, sewing and visiting with people. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Victor; four sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Theresa, The Dalles, Ore., Clifford and Debbie, Missoula, Mont., Terry and Beverly, Florance, Mont., and Clark ``Chico" and Jennifer, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, June and Harland Mielke, Minot, and Vicky and Dan Oberlander, Hot Springs, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee ``Whity" and Connie, Bismarck, and James and Darla, Mesa, Ariz.; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Charmaine Knight, Milwaukee, and Marie and Jim Miller, Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gilbert Bernhardt
Gilbert J. Bernhardt, 63, rural Tuttle, died Nov. 3, 1996, in his home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Church of St. Francis de Sales, Steele, with the Rev. Thomas Krupich officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Steele.

Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel and will continue at the church one hour before services. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gilbert was born Nov. 6, 1932, the son of John and Veronica (Stocke) Bernhardt, on a farm north of Taylor. He was raised at Taylor and graduated from the Richardton Abbey. He married Darlene Kuntz in 1958 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson. He worked in the oil fields in northwestern North Dakota. During this time his sons, Darrel and Calvin ``Kelly", were born. The family moved to the Tuttle area in the early 1960s, when he began farming and ranching.

He enjoyed restoring antique machinery, reading and spending time with his friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Darrel and Stephanie, Davenport, Iowa, and Calvin ``Kelly," Tuttle; two grandchildren, Chealsea and Nickalous Bernhardt; three sisters, Melina, Cleta and Catherine; his mother-in-law, Veronica Kuntz; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Veronica; four brothers, Edman, Roman, Joe and Howard; and his father-in-law, John Kuntz.

Irene Hoyer
Irene E. Hoyer, 70, 911 N. 28th St., Bismarck, died Nov. 3, 1996, in her home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, 14th St. and Ave. C, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Irene was born March 19, 1926, on a farm north of Eckelson, the daughter of William and Emma (Hinz) Schuldt. She married Archie Rolfzen on Oct. 29, 1942, in Pipestone, Minn. They lived in Eckelson. Archie died Jan. 30, 1959. She married John L. Hoyer on July 1, 1961, at Sanborn. They lived in Bismarck. She worked for Burleigh County Social Services as a homemaker-health aide from 1980-1994. Irene was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, John; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Rodger Berntson, Sanborn, Judy and Forrest Strobel, West Valley City, Utah, and Jane and Allan Kunkel, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jim and Diane Rolfzen, Litchville, and John Hoyer Jr., Elko, Nev.; two brothers, Melvin, Billings, Mont., and Delbert, Valley City; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Archie; her parents; and four brothers.

The family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society.

Delano Jewett
Delano Tracey Jewett, 18, 1919 S. Grandview Lane, died Nov. 3, 1996, in Fort Thompson, S.D. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte, S.D., with burial in Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery, White Horse, S.D.

A wake will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Delano Jewett was born Oct. 24, 1978, in Eagle Butte, the son of Marvella Left Hand Bull and Bobby Yellow Earring. He lived in Eagle Butte the first five years of his life, most recently living in Bismarck and getting his high school diploma. He became the proud father of a beautiful baby girl eight months ago.

His loves were playing basketball, music and being with Amanda Smith and their daughter, Aiyana.

He is survived by his beautiful daughter, Aiyana; her mother, Amanda Smith; his mother, Marvella Left Hand Bull, Fort Yates; his father, Bobby Yellow Earring, Eagle Butte; his grandmothers, Dorothy Yellow Earring, Eagle Butte, and Eunice Mound, Fort Yates; his grandfather, Lyle Jewett, Eagle Butte; four sisters, Mannie and Tiffany Yellow Earring, Cherrish His Chase and Katrina Left Hand Bull, all of Fort Yates; and one brother, Mitchell Jewett, Fort Yates; his aunts, Theresa and Gwen Jewett, Marcie, Lyndell and Darla; his uncles, Kenneth, Lional and Richard; and special friends, Jeff, Joan, Aaron, Joe and Ashley Smith, and Tony Thomas, all of Bismarck.

Delano will be forever in our hearts.

Thomas Samson
Thomas W. Samson, 86, 325 N. 31st St., Bismarck, died Nov. 4, 1996, in his home. Services will be at noon Wednesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Boelter Funeral Home, where a vigil and rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today.

Thomas was born Feb. 25, 1910, at Freeport, Ill., the son of Matthew and Etta (Thompson) Samson. He was raised and educated at Monroe, Wis. He entered the U.S. Army in 1940 and was discharged in 1945. Thomas married Eleanor Kraft on May 15, 1948, in Los Angeles. They lived in Glendale, Calif., where he was a machinist. They later moved to Anaheim, Calif., where he worked for North America Aviation until he retired in 1962. They moved to Bismarck in April 1993.

He was a member of American Legion and a past member of Moose Club and Independent Order of Forresters. He was very artistic and enjoyed painting.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; one half-brother, Eddy Kopp, Monroe, Wis.; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; and one half-brother.

Edwin Olson
Edwin Olson, 91, Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele, died Nov. 2, 1996, in the nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Muriel Lippert-Schauer officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Trygg Township.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Edwin was born Jan. 31, 1905, in Trygg Township, the son of Louis and Hilda (Erickson) Olson. He was raised and educated in Trygg Township. He lived there until he married Sylvia Eckholm on June 2, 1936, in Bismarck. They moved to his uncle Ole's farm just across the Apple Creek in Trygg Township. He had lived in Trygg Township for 76 years when they moved to Wing in 1981. They both entered Golden Manor Nursing Home in the spring of 1996.

Edwin was an active member of Wing Golden Age Club. He often entertained the club with his saxophone. He had ordered a saxophone through mail order in the early 1920s and taught himself how to play. He played for many dances, house parties, and his own enjoyment.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Delbert and Arlene, Wing; two granddaughters, Karla and her husband, James Olson, Wing, and Karen Olson, Marshalltown, Iowa; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Eloise Siirtola, Wing, and Mavis and Armond Schopp, Aberdeen, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years; both parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

Warren Wentz
NAPOLEON -- Warren H. Wentz, 63, Napoleon, died Nov. 2, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. Gary Connors-Nelson officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Warren was born June 15, 1933, in Napoleon, the son of Otto and Lucy (Wiebusch) Wentz. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Napoleon and received his education in Napoleon schools. He then worked for the Napoleon Creamery and later worked for a Texaco service station in Grand Forks for a short time. In 1955 he returned to Napoleon and began his employment with the Peavey Co. in June 1955.

Warren was married to JoAnne Schnabel, April 1, 1956 at Napoleon. They continued to live at Napoleon and Warren became manager of Peavey Company Elevator. He took pride in his work and treasured the many friendships he made along the way. JoAnne was also employed by Peavey, and they worked together for several years. Warren retired from Peavey in August 1992, and started work for the Dawson Hail Insurance Co. as a crop adjuster, until the time of his illness. Warren enjoyed traveling and making new friends, and was happiest when he was working.

He was a strong community leader, having served on the Napoleon City Council, Praiie Apartment Board, Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department, the Napoleon Cemetery Board and Napoelon Ambulance Squad. He memberships included Trinity Lutheran Church of Napoleon, Napoleon Lions Club, Bismarck Eagles Club, Napoleon Wildlife Club and was awarded the Napoleon FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award. Warren served as the volunteer weather observer for many years and helped support many of the school activities and athletic projects. Family was most important to Warren, especially his grandchildren and the special times when they were together.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnne; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah and her special friend, Scott Salmonson, Bismarck, and Lori and Terry Willson, Bismarck; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Paulette, Napoleon, Scott and Rachel, Fargo, and Mark and Nancy, Grand Forks; four very special grandchildren, Amanda, Kevin and Tyler Wentz, and Billy Willson; his mother, Lucy Wentz, Bismarck; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Vicki, Lodi, Calif., Gordon and Delores, Hazelton, and Terry and RoJean, Rugby; and two sisters, Carol Moser, Medina, and JoAnn Schumacher, Regan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otto; and two brothers, Floyd and Gene.

Helen Farber
NEW ENGLAND -- Helen L. Farber, 81, New England, died Nov. 4, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Arthur Hedberg
PARSHALL -- Arthur Hedberg, 79, Parshall, died Nov. 3, 1996, in St. Louis Park, Minn. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Parshall. Further arrangements are pending at Johnson Funeral Home, Parshall.

Charles Byington
FORT YATES -- Charles E. Byington, 57, Fort Yates, died Nov. 1, 1996, in the Mobridge, S.D., hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Charles, California; and one daughter, Delores Byington, California. (Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge)

Lowell Pelton
DICKINSON -- Lowell D. Pelton, 17, Dickinson, died Nov. 4, 1996, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Arrangements are pending Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

NEW ENGLAND -- Kenneth M. Nielsen, 78, New England, died Nov. 3, 1996, in his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Wednesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, New England, with burial at 2:30 p.m. CST Thursday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

He is survived by his wife, June; two daughters, Betty Heck, Belfield, and Karen Schaeffer, New England; and one sister, Dorothy Fisher, Gretna, Neb. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)
