Clarence Johnson, 78, Hemet, Calif., formerly of Bismarck, died March 16, 1997, in a Yucaipa, Calif., nursing home. Services were held Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hemet, with burial in Garrison at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Eldora; one daughter, Judith Falis, Las Vegas; four sons, Lynn, Las Vegas, Terry, Golden, Colo., Randy, Carlton, Ore., and Scott, Rose Hill, Kan.

Martha Bertsch
ASHLEY -- Martha J. Bertsch, 88, Ashley, died March 18, 1997, in the Ashley nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ashley Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Bruce Tellmann
Bruce E. Tellmann, 53, Grand Forks, died March 17, 1997, in a Phoenix hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.

He is survived by two sons, Jefferson and Andrew, both of Grand Forks; one daughter, Amy, Grand Forks; his mother, Madeleine, Grand Forks; and his sister, Barbara Tellmann, Grand Forks. (Norman Funeral Home, Grand Forks)

Tillie Klein
Tillie Klein, 75, Bismarck, died March 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bismarck Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Gwendolyn Hillard
Gwendolyn Hillard, 48, Mandan, died March 19, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Harvey Just
Harvey Just, 81, Mandan, died March 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Tillie Klein
Tillie Klein, 75, Bismarck, died March 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Thielenhaus officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Tillie was born June 18, 1921, at Linton, the daughter of Louie and Rosalia (Wagner) Weber. She attended Sand Creek School where she graduated from eighth grade. She graduated from Linton High School in 1938 and attended Valley City Teachers College. She taught school in the Temvik area.

Tillie married Herman Klein, June 5, 1943, in Linton. They farmed north of McKenzie for 29 years. They moved to Bismarck in 1971. Tillie loved working on crafts, quilting and her flower beds. She was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Herman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terrance and Beverly, and Tom and Sharon, all of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Kristi Klein, Los Angeles, Jennifer Klein, Loveland, Colo., Scott Klein, Mandan, and Crystal Klein, Bismarck; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Tesky, Bismarck, and Kara Tesky, Grand Forks; one step-great-grandson, Tanner Tesky, Bismarck; four brothers, Herb Weber, Kenmare, Leo Weber, Medford, Ore., and Ray and Albert Weber, both of Linton; and four sisters, Hilda Klein, Bismarck, Alvina Zoller, and Delores Ohlhauser, both of Linton, and Gladys Ohlhauser, Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister.

George Bliese
George A. Bliese, 80, Mandan, died March 19, 1997, in the Mandan nursing home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

George was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Forest Township, Wis., the son of Fred and Emma (Meisner) Bliese. In the 1930s, he came to North Dakota to farm with his cousins near Fort Rice. He served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippine Islands during World War II. He had attained the rank of Corporal at the time of his discharge in December 1946. He married Ida Chase on Dec. 6, 1952, in Mandan. In that same year, he began his employment with Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1960 he was transferred to Dilworth, Minn., and he and his family made their home in Glyndon until they returned to Mandan in 1971. On Oct. 16, 1981, he retired from Burlington Northern Railroad.

He was a life member of Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 707 and a member of Mandan American Legion. George found his greatest pleasure in gardening and growing flowers. He also enjoyed woodworking and was particularly proud of the cedar chests he crafted.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Alan Gullickson, Mandan; one son, Tim, Fort Rice; his granddaughter, Erin Gullickson; and one sister, Amanda Muehleman, Clear Lake, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida, who died Sept. 22, 1984; seven brothers and two sisters.

Harvey Just
Harvey Just, 81, Mandan, died March 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Harvey was born Nov. 9, 1915, at Judson, the son of Herman F. and Rosa (Toepke) Just. He moved with his family to New Salem, where he graduated from New Salem High School in 1934. He then attended North Dakota State School of Science. He married Marjorie Stehno, Nov. 9, 1940. He worked for the North Dakota Highway Department until they moved to Seattle in 1941, where he was employed by Boeing Aircraft. In 1945, they returned to Judson where he owned and operated a grocery store before beginning his employment with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in 1949. He and Marjorie lived in Washburn until he transferred to Bismarck in 1960. They have made their home in Mandan since that time. He retired in 1978.

In his younger years, Harvey was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He had been a resident of Elm Crest Manor in New Salem for four years until he moved to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center two years ago.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Marge; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carolyn Dressler, Sacramento, Calif., and Nadine and Dorlyn Hoffman, Steele; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marshall and Sandi, Mandan, and Tom and Ann, Bismarck; nine grandchildren, Todd Just, Jacqueline Dragmire, Andrea Crouch, Nicole Lamb, Melissa Hoffman, Sarah Hoffman, Corey Just, Ryan Just and Toby Just; two great-grandchildren, Brady Dragmire and Morgan Lamb; and one sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Walter Kunz, New Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ferdinand and Roy; his sister, Opal Thiele; and his son-in-law, John Dressler.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Elm Crest Manor in New Salem or Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

Gwendolyn Hillard
Gwendolyn Lou Hillard, 48, 1105 Third Ave. N.E., Mandan, formerly of Bismarck, died March 19, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no visitation at the church.

Gwendolyn was born Jan. 15, 1949, in Medford, Ore., the daughter of James N. and Adeline (Schatz) Hillard. She moved with her family to Minot in 1952, and to Mandan in January 1963, where she continued her education. She had been living in a group home in Bismarck and was employed by Pride Industries until recently.

She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Mandan. Gwen enjoyed bowling and participating in the Special Olympics. She loved shopping and walking in the mall was a favorite pastime.

She is survived by her mother, Adeline Hillard; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Carla, Mandan; one nephew, Sean, Mandan; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and all of her many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, James, who died in 1971; her sister, Holly; and one nephew, Jesse.

Martha Bertsch
ASHLEY -- Services for Martha J. Bertsch, 88, Ashley, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ashley Baptist Church, withe the Revs. Darwin Stahl and Harry Haas officiating. Burial will be in Ashley Cemetery. She died March 18, 1997, in the Ashley nursing home.

Visitation will begin one hour before services at the church.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Gladys, Ashley, Dwaine and Marion, Leola, S.D., and Frank and Delores, Madison, Wis.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Caryl Kaseman, and Oddie Jean and Darrell Schlittenhardt, all of Bismarck, and Sharon and Allen Ralston, Grand Forks; one brother and sister-in-law, Godfrey and Ella Herr, Wishek; one sister, Bertha Slater, Baker, Mont.; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Josephine Buckmeier
SCRANTON -- Josephine M. Buckmeier, 85, Scranton, died March 19, 1997, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Scranton, with burial in the church cemetery.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

She is survived by three sons, Edward, Hettinger, James, Rockford, Ill., and George, Scranton; one daughter, Ann LaCompte, Timber Lake, S.D.; and one brother, Stanley Lopota, Scranton. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Kenneth Dewey
HETTINGER -- Kenneth L. Dewey, 67, Hettinger, died March 19, 1997, in the Hettinger nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Saturday at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Frieda; two daughters, Marcella Anderson, Lodgepole, S.D., and Marvel Bentsen, Hettinger; two sons, Roger, Norfork, Neb., and Robert, Dickinson; three sisters, Jennie Hohenstein, Mesa, Ariz., Verda Martin, Callaway, Neb., and Ivah Britain, Longton, Kan.; and two brothers, Ivan, Carney, Neb., and Walter, Kimberly, Idaho. Alyce Travers
BOWMAN -- Alyce B. Travers, 83, Bowman, died March 20, 1997, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Monday at Bowman Lutheran Church, with burial in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Bowman.

Simon Greff
DICKINSON -- Simon C. Greff, 73, Dickinson, died March 20, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Azeeta Bohrer
Azeeta Z. Bohrer, 93, 6251 Apple Creek Road, died Dec. 27, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital after an extended illness. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck. (Eastgate Funeral Service)

Olga Schock
UNDERWOOD -- Olga Schock, 91, Underwood, formerly of Turtle Lake, died March 20, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with the Rev. Norman Paskowsky officiating. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.

Olga Ida Schadler was born Nov. 13, 1905, in St. Joseph, Mich., to Adam and Minnie (Giese) Schadler. She came to North Dakota with her parents when she was five years old, and grew up on their farm northeast of Turtle Lake where she attended rural school. As a young girl she helped her parents on the farm. She married Gottfried Schock, March 7, 1924, at Washburn. They lived and farmed six miles northeast of Turtle Lake and retired from farming in 1957. In 1959 they moved to Mandan and were both employed at the Wachter Ranch. In 1962 they moved to Minot and both worked at Eddy's Bakery for two years. They retired in 1966 and returned to live in Turtle Lake. In 1982 she moved to Turtle Lake Manor when Gottfried became a resident of the nursing home in Underwood. She had been married to Gottfried for 60 years when he died on April 6, 1984. In 1991 she became a resident of Prairieview Medcenter One Nursing Home at Underwood.

She was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church at Turtle Lake, and past president of Peace Lutheran Ladies Aid. She enjoyed music, cooking and visiting with people. As her hobby she kept scrapbooks and for over 60 years kept day-by-day books.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Vi and Charles Helvik, Sheridan, Wyo., and Rubyjean and Robert Hudson, Everett, Wash.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Erna, Miles City, Mont., Rudolph and Janice, Underwood, Herbert and Joyce, Egan, S.D., Alfred and Suzan, Beulah, and Reuben "Sam" and Louise, Minot; 31 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lydia Delaney, Walla Walla, Wash.

She was preceded in death by one son; one brother; three grandsons; and one great-great-grandson.

Dan Lachenmeier
Dan A. Lachenmeier, 34, Bismarck, died of natural causes, March 21, 1997, at his home. Further arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Rose Hilfer
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Rose Hilfer, 86, Grand Junction, died Feb. 7, 1997, in a Grand Junction hospital. Services were held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Grand Junction.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; two sons, Donald, Pesgamin, Argentina, and Frank, Susanville, Calif.; and three daughters, Arlene Klemisch, Langdon, Leona O'Keefe, Daly City, Calif., and Virginia Delva, Fruitland Park, Fla.

Jeffrey Jennings
Jeffrey Jennings, 43, Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, died March 21, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Washburn. Further arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Lois Lauf
WIBAUX, Mont. -- Lois Lillian Lauf, 67, Wibaux, died March 19, 1997, in Rochester, Minn. of acute leukemia. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wibaux, with burial in Wibaux Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Adolph; five sons, James, Great Falls, Jerome, Jack and Donald, all of Wibaux, and Mark, Helena, Mont.; two brothers, Chester Schossow, Casper, Wyo., and Wilbur Johnson, Corvallis, Ore. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach)
