Helen Hoesel
Helen Hoesel, 94, Mandan, died Sept. 10, 1997, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Mandan, with the Rev. Carl Lindemann officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Helen was born Oct. 23, 1902, on the family farm north of Judson, the daughter of Fred and Hulda (Purfst) Kunz. She attended rural school and helped out on the family farm until her marriage to Carl Hoesel, Oct. 6, 1921. They farmed in the Judson area until they moved to Mandan in 1952. Following Carl's death in 1955, she resided at Liberty Heights for 27 years. She was very active in volunteer work at Liberty Heights and played in the Liberty Heights Kitchen Band. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. She moved to Marian Manor in May 1993.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Darwin VanderVorst, and LaVerne and John Demianew, all of Mandan; four sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence and Alice, New Salem, Wilbert and Mary Ann, Mandan, Milton and Ann, Riverton, Wyo., and Ervin and Val, Billings, Mont.; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Leola Kunz, Northwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; one son, Harold; and eight brothers.

Edmund Loeb
Edmund Loeb, 74, formerly of Mandan, died Sept. 10, 1997, in an Enderlin nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Al Leary officiating. Burial will be in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Raleigh, with military rites by Schafer Boye Lange Post No. 69, Flasher.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight, followed by a parish vigil at 8. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Edmund was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Raleigh. He was the son of Lorenz and Emma (Ternes) Loeb. Ed grew up and was educated in the Raleigh area. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from May 25, 1944 to March 10, 1946. On Oct. 7, 1946, he married Emily Ruscheinsky in Raleigh. They farmed his father's farm until 1985 when he moved to Mandan.

Edmund was a member of Knights of Columbus in Flasher, American Legion and Eagles. He enjoyed bowling, deer hunting, fishing, playing harmonica and making homemade sausage.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ed and Kris, Topeka, Kan., and Darrel, Missoula, Mont.; eight daughters and six sons-in-law, Dolores Loeb, Tulsa, Okla., Sandra and Roger Vetter, Mandan, Jeanie and Dave Kellerman, Enderlin, Geraldine Loeb, Enderlin, Delilah and David Shelver, Mapleton, Rita and David Miller, Lisbon, Cynthia and Ernesto Chacon, Tulsa, and Diane and Rick Anderson, Enderlin; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lorenz and Emma, Raleigh, and Pete and Katherine, Mandan; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Florence Bachmeier, Bismarck, Leona and Mike Dirk, Fargo, Pauline and Ben Deichert, Fargo, and Eva Kopp, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emily, who died June 13, 1985, and two sisters, Marie and Regina.

Zane Robinson
Zane Seth Robinson, 14 months, died Sept. 9, 1997, from a drowning, during a family outing in Wyoming. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Robert Nordvall officiating.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Zane was born July 1, 1996, in Bismarck, the son of Lori Belile and Dustin John Robinson. In his brief time on this Earth, Zane won the hearts of those he came close to. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. In death he offered the gift of life to another child, through the donation of his heart. Memories of Zane will be cherished forever.

Those who shared in his life were his parents; his grandparents, Lois Miller and Gregg Greenquist, Bismarck, and Linda Aldrich, Elko, Nev.; his great-grandparents, Maybel and William Hitsew, Riverton, Wyo., and Jake Robinson, Buffalo, Wyo.; his aunts and uncles, Cherie and Kristen Kroh, and Damon Miller, all of Bismarck, Alishia and Amy Belile, Dickinson, and David and Anne Aldrich, San Diego, Calif.

Martha Olheiser
DICKINSON -- Martha J. Olheiser, 61, Dickinson, died Sept. 9, 1997, in her home after a courageous struggle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight.

Martha Joanne Ficek was born March 31, 1936, in Dickinson, to Joseph F. and Philomina (Faiman) Ficek. She attended grades 1 and 2 at New Hradec Elementary, grades 3-8 at St. Patrick's Elementary and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1954. On July 18, 1955, she married Les Olheiser in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada. Martha worked at Excel Cleaners, St. Joseph's Hospital and as a secretary at Dickinson High School for the past 19 years. She was very proud of her job of her job at DHS.

She was a member of St. Anthony Club, and enjoyed reading, computers and playing bingo.

She is survived by her husband, Les; one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Rena, Dickinson; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Brenda and Becky Olheiser, both of Dickinson, Cindy and Ron Koffler, Dickinson, JoLin and Brian Peck, Sturgis, S.D., and Sue and Tom Schouweiler, Bismarck; 12 grandchildren; her father, Joseph F., Dickinson; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Bahley, and Josie and Ed Kolodejchuk, all of Dickinson, Mary Kay Michels, Beach, and Georgianne and Armin Wehri, Hebron; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother; and three brothers.

The family prefers memorials to Heartland Hospice, Dickinson.

George Anderson
George Ivar Anderson, 86, formerly of Mandan and Williston, died Nov. 1, 1996, in his daughter's home in Columbus, Ohio. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at the funeral home.

George was born Jan. 4, 1910, in Mandan, the son of Samuel and Thyra (Larson) Anderson. He was raised and educated in Mandan and received his degree in engineering from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He married Mildred Dawson April 11, 1948, in Mandan, where they lived until they moved to Williston in 1955. He was employed by the State Highway Department, retiring as a district engineer in 1975. Mildred died in June 1988. He moved to Columbus in 1990.

George was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers and Cinephiles and a past member of the Williston Strings. He loved to play the violin since he learned to play at the age of seven.

George is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Leonard Berglund Jr., Columbus; one son, Robert, Williston; and two grandchildren, Leonard Berglund III and Genevieve Berglund, both of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and one sister, Alvera Anderson.

The family prefers memorials to the Opportunity Foundation of Williston, 612 E. Broadway, Williston, N.D. 58801.

Carl Bishop
Carl A. Bishop, 71, Woodworth, died Nov. 8, 1996, in an Oklahoma City, Okla. hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodworth. Further arrangements are pending with Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

ANAMOOSE -- Helen Schwarze, 81, Anamoose, died Nov. 8, 1996, in the Harvey hospital. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Helen Wagner
GOODRICH -- Helen Wagner, 75, Goodrich, died Nov. 8, 1996, in the Underwood nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Jonathon Morgan
Jonathon R. Morgan, 11, Lakeside, Calif., died Nov. 8, 1996, of cancer at his grandparents home in Pollock, S.D. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Eva Horner
LINTON -- Eva Horner, 84, Linton, died Nov. 8, 1996, at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Ignatz, Linton; three sons, Andy, Kintyre, and Albert and Cliff, both of Bismarck; three daughters, Monica Leier, Braddock, Betty Masseth Wiecks, Lake Park, Minn., and Angeline Jacob, Linton; three brothers, Sebastian Schlosser, Modesto, Calif., and Anton and William Schlosser, both of Bismarck; and three sisters, Catherine Loken, Marysville, Calif., Adeline Knapp, Milan, Mich., and Frances Schatz, Hayward, Calif. Walter Hoerth
ASHLEY -- Walter E. Hoerth, 83, Ashley, died Nov. 8, 1996, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Ashley Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending with Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Fred Alt
ELGIN -- Fred Alt, 88, Elgin, died Nov. 4, 1996, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Monday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Elgin.

He is survived by one brother, Gust, New Leipzig; and two sisters, Helen Krause, Lark, and Anna Iszler, New Leipzig. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

Clara Vetter
MINOT -- Clara Vetter, 80, Minot, formerly of Linton and Bismarck, died Nov. 7, 1996, at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Further arrangements are pending with Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Pauline Gress
DICKINSON -- Pauline C. Gress, 80, Dickinson, died Nov. 5, 1996, in a Dickinson nursing home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. MST Monday, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Burial will be in Dickinson Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. Merten, Spicer, Minn., and Nancene Holland, Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Dennis R., Glendale, Ariz.; and one sister, Theresa Culp, Dickinson.

Raymond Summers
DICKINSON -- Raymond E. Summers, 78, Dickinson, died Nov. 7, 1996, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Monday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Gustav Anderson
UNDERWOOD -- Gustav Torald (G.T.) Anderson, 93, Underwood, formerly of Turtle Lake, died Nov. 7, 1996, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and will continue one hour prior to services, at the church.

Gustav Torald (G.T.) Anderson was born March 8, 1903, at rural Turtle Lake to Abraham T. and Julia (Vigdahl) Anderson. He attended school at Turtle Lake and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1922. After graduation he worked as a postal clerk and assistant postmaster. He attended civilian military training in the summer of 1922 and 1923 at Fort Snelling. He then enrolled in the printing class at Wahpeton State School of Science, completing the two-year course in four months.

G.T. worked for the Washburn Leader for a time and in November of 1925 started the McLean County Journal at Turtle Lake. He purchased the Turtle Lake Wave, which had also been published in Turtle Lake in the mid-1930s, and merged the two papers. He also published the Underwood Reporter in 1929 for about a year. In the late 1920s he showed silent movies at the local Roxy Theater. He sold the printing and newspaper business to his son in 1970.

He married Polly Badraun July 31, 1938, at Turtle Lake. They lived in Turtle Lake all their lives, where Polly also operated a beauty shop. After their retirement they did some traveling. They became residents of Sheridan Memorial Home at McClusky in June of this year, and in August G.T. became a resident of the Prairieview Nursing Home at Underwood. Polly returned to their home in Turtle Lake.

He was a charter member of Turtle Lake Lions Club, treasurer for nine years and secretary for the St. Paul's Lutheran congregation. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, clerk for Lake Williams School District for 28 years and a member of Turtle Lake Fire Department since 1923 and secretary for 10 years. G.T. was a member of the 50-years State Printers, member of Turtle Lake Alumni Association, life member of Turtle Lake Commercial Club, and over 50 year member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He enjoyed traveling, reading, coin and stamp collecting, yard work and tinkering.

He is survived by his wife, Polly, Turtle Lake; one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Janelle, Turtle Lake; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tom Kleiv, Niceville, Fla.; grandchildren, Dean and Judy Anderson, Sheridan, Ore., Nancy and Willie Wilson, Coleharbor, Jason and Audrey Anderson, Turtle Lake, Craig Kleiv, Tallahassee, Fla., and Dain Kleiv, Tampa, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Emil, Turtle Lake; and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Gladys and Emil Wirtz, Turtle Lake, and Ida Brown and Ingeletta Edgar, both of Marysville, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arthur, Haven, Theodore and Edwin; and three sisters, Bertha, Anna and Taletta.

Sebastian Sperle
NAPOLEON -- Sebastian E. Sperle, 90, Napoleon, died April 24, 1997, in the Napoleon care center. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Monday, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. James Lauerman officiating. Burial will be in St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon. Jim Olig will serve as organist. Pallbearers include all grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, where a rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Sebastian was born Dec. 19, 1906 in rural Logan County, south of Napoleon, to Martin and Margaretta (Horner) Sperle. He received his elementary education in rural Shellbutte Township school. Sebastian farmed with his parents until he married Magdalena Becker, Nov. 17, 1930 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, south of Napoleon. Following their marriage they lived on a farm 1/2 mile from his parents until 1941, when they moved to a farm in Hills Township, where they continued to live until they retired and moved to Napoleon in 1974.

He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and a former trustee of St. Anthony Catholic Church, rural Kintyre. He served as a Logan County Commissioner for 24 years, and on the Logan County Social Service Board, the Logan County Bookmobile Board, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Sebastian was very active doing carpentry work in the community for several years.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in law, Martin S. and Ann, Napoleon, and Leonard P. and Rosemarie, Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Lee Rathbun, Stamford, Conn.; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and two great-step-grandchildren; one brother, Mike, Napoleon; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Pete Schumacher, Wishek, Mary Kambitz, Napoleon, and Elizabeth and Joe Weigel, Auburn, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalena; his parents; one sister, Eva Johs; and one brother, Martin W.

Orla Glaspell
JAMESTOWN -- Orla M. Glaspell, 80, Jamestown, died April 25, 1997, in a Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Basilica of St. James, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both of Jamestown.

She is survived by two sons, Gordon, Jamestown, and David, Bismarck; two daughters, Patricia Anvik, Fargo, and Rosemary Glaspell, Hatton; and four sisters, Irene Ballweg, Jamestown, Rosella Jackawitz and Sister Paula, both of Fargo, and Ruth Westover, Sacramento, Calif. Mike Heinzman
Mike Heinzman, 78, Lemmon, S.D., died April 25, 1997, in the Lemmon nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery, both of Lemmon.

He is survived by his wife, Ida, Lemmon; one daughter, Shirley Penor, McIntosh, S.D.; five brothers, Casper, John and Nick, all of Billings, Mont., Joe, Vancouver, Wash., and Jack, Cross Plains, Texas; and three sisters, Magdalena Hewson, Belfield, Francis May, Portland, Ore., and Philipine Kern, Billings. Bertha Jones, 88, Beaverton, Ore., formerly of Tuttle, died April 23, 1997, in Beaverton. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending.

WILLISTON -- Delphia Oster, 70, Williston, formerly of Riverton, Wyo., died April 25, 1997, in a Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.
