Lulu Long
Word has been received that Lulu Virginia Long died April 16, 1997, at her home in Englewood, Fla. She was born April 18, 1909, in Onawa, Iowa, and moved here 17 years ago from Bismarck. She was a retired bookkeeper.

She was a member of Wildflower Country Club in Englewood and attended Englewood United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Long graduated from Iowa State Teachers College with a commercial education degree in August 1929.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; one daughter, Phoebe Coder, Norcross, Ga.; one stepson, John, Bella Vista, Ark.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandcihldren.

Memorial services were held April 19 at Englewood United Methodist Church in the Doan Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of S.W. Florida, 6055 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Fla. 34238 or to H.E.L.P. Center, 1810 Schafer St., Bismarck, N.D. 58501, with an acknowledgement to Phoebe Coder, 601 Park Lake Lane, Norcross, Ga. 30092.

Meredith Winters
Memorial services for Meredith Jean Winters, 58, Lakeside, Ore., were held May 4, 1997.

She was born June 27, 1938, in Mandan, to Henry C. and Helen Evangeline (Wade) Pfenning, and died April 24, 1997, in Coos Bay, Ore.

She spent most of her life in Riverside, Calif., where she taught home economics and health at Ramona High School for 32 years. She received her masters degree in education from the University of California at Riverside. She retired in December 1996 and moved to Lakeside. She liked to sew, cook and fish.

She was married to Al Winters, May 19, 1983.

She is survived by her husband, Al; two stepsons, Craig and Hugh Winters; one stepdaughter, Julie Winters; two grandsons, Jacob and Levi Winters; one brother, Henry Pfenning; and one sister, Mary Kamp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Thomas and Lowell Pfenning.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Meredith "Jeanne" Winters Educational Scholarship, c/o Ramona High School, attn: Janet Policy, 7675 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, Calif. 92504.

Ruth McLean
ELGIN -- Ruth McLean, 87, Elgin, died May 7, 1997, in the Elgin nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday at Hope Conservative Congregational Church, Elgin, with burial in Leith Union Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Percy, Albany, Ga., and Roger, Sparks, Nev.; two brothers, Ralph Omdahl, Mesa, Ariz., and Bill Omdahl, Shelton, Wash.; and two sisters, Jean Linde, Mesa, Ariz., and Marvis McDaniel, Des Moines, Iowa. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

Chester Henseler
On Nov. 24, 1996, Chester Arthur Henseler, Tooele, Utah, and former resident of Riverdale, was received into the comforting arms of his savior after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 65 years old.

Chester was born April 25, 1931, in Plaza, to Hugo O. and Winnifred E. (Severance) Henseler. He attended schools in the Ryder and Coleharbor areas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed by the U.S. Corp of Engineers from 1962-1980 as law enforcement officer in the Riverdale area. From 1980-1993 he was employed in security at the Tooele Army Depot. He retired from the depot in April 1993, after 38 years of government service. He was then employed by Wal-Mart.

He was a member of the Mountain of Faith Lutheran Church, and the Utah and North Dakota Peace Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janice Koeppplin, formerly of Flasher; one daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Ken Fiske, Buffalo, Minn.; three sons, Ricky, Minneapolis, David, Beaverton, Ore., and Arthur, Sandy, Utah; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Ken Woessner, Parshall; and one brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Mildred, Pipersville, Pa.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. May 17 at American Legion Club in Parshall. His remains will then be interned in the Plaza Cemetery.

The family wishes the memorial to be very open and informal to celebrate his life. It would appreciate anyone who has a fond memory of Chester to share it with those in attendance. Songs and/or poems would also be welcome. The family wishes that those not able to attend would remember them in their prayers.

Cameron Revelette
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Cameron Hale Revelette, 28, Seattle, died Oct. 3, 1997, at home from natural causes. A memorial service will be held at 7 tonight, at Bowman United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita Revelette, Bowman; his father, Joe C. Revelette II, San Antonio; his grandmother, Winona Bowman, Bowman; his grandfather, Joe Revelette, Pawhuska, Okla.; one sister, Catherine Price, San Antonio; and two brothers, Joe C. III, San Antonio, and Clinton, Moorhead, Minn. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Sam Kanski
FAIRFIELD -- Sam Kanski, 78, Fairfield, died Oct. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Christoph Fischer
ASHLEY -- Christoph Fischer, 89, Ashley, died Oct. 8, 1997 at the Ashley hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Dr. Shirley Fischer Arends, Munich, Germany; and one brother, Theodore, Ashley. (Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley)

Denzil Knight
WILLISTON -- Denzil Knight, 74, Williston, died Oct. 9, 1997, in a Williston hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Everson Funeral Home, Williston. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Marcy; one daughter, Kathrine Knight, Bulberde, Texas; three brothers, Bruce and Ellis, both of St. Marys, W.V., and Beryl, Cleves, Ohio; and two sisters, Ruther Ingram, St. Marys, and Ruby Cantwell, Belmont, W.V.

Louise Roth
Louise E. Roth, 85, 515 N. Ninth St., died Oct. 8, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Ernest T. Schafer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Louise E. Nigrin was born May 30, 1912, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Gottlieb and Anna (Benisek) Nigrin. She was raised and educated in Schrunk School District near Regan. Louise married Jacob Roth, Feb. 4, 1932, in McClusky. They farmed near McClusky until retiring to Bismarck in 1968. Louise enjoyed staying home and raising her family. She also worked at St. Alexius Hospital for several years. Louise was very active in different church activities and enjoyed baking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Pauline, McClusky, Jerry and Janice, Casper, Wyo., Donavan and Sharon, Baldwin, Glenn and Loretta Roth, Bismarck, Rodney and Linda, Mandan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Claudette and Lester Welk, Englewood, Colo., and Dedree and Daniel Voegele, Bismarck; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Schaeffer, McClusky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1994; one daughter, Delores; one brother; and one sister.

Rod Tjaden
Rod Tjaden, 56, 516 Portage Drive, died Oct. 9, 1997, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Peary Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a Masonic service will begin at 7:30 tonight.

Rod was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Dickinson, the son of Kobes and Verna (Hutchison) Tjaden. He graduated from Bismarck High School where he played on state championship basketball teams for three years. He attended Bismarck Junior College and graduated from University of North Dakota. Rod began his career with the Gold Seal Co., working in Chicago, Milwaukee and Atlanta. He married Sandra Cherry, in Rome, Ga., on March 18, 1967. After living in Chicago and New Jersey, they returned to North Dakota in 1971, when Rod was appointed general manager of the Medora Division of the Gold Seal Co. He later served as president of Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. Throughout his career, Rod was instrumental in the development of Medora, as the premier tourist attraction in North Dakota and worked extensively with state and regional tourism promotion and economic development.

He was past president of the Old West Trail Foundation, past chairman of the Greater North Dakota Association, a member of Vision 2000 Committee and was mayor of Medora for 18 years. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge, El Zagal Shrine and Scottish Rite. At the time of his death, he was a trustee of Medcenter One, a member of Disciplinary Board of North Dakota Supreme Court and board member of A Christian Ministry in the National Park. He was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church.

Rod is survived by his wife, Sandy; his daughter and son-in-law, Kim Tjaden and Joe Nguyen, Omaha; and his daughter, Kristen Medora, Bismarck; one sister, Kathy Tjaden, Bismarck; one brother, Bill, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation or McCabe United Methodist Church.

Christina Buchholz
TUTTLE -- Christina (Schock) Buchholz, 89, Tuttle, died Oct. 4, 1997, in her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with the Rev. John K. Norby officiating. Burial will be in Zion Langendahl Cemetery, Tuttle.

Visitation will be from noonn to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel.

Christina Schock was born Nov. 6, 1907, in rural Tuttle. She was raised and educated there. She was one of seven children born to Christian and Elizabeth Schock. On Nov. 10, 1938, she married Michael "Herman" Buchholz, in Steele. In 1939 they moved and farmed southwest of Tuttle. Mr. Buchholz passed away in 1969. Christina and her son, Orvin, continued to farm. In 1982 she moved to Robinson and some years later, moved back to the farm where she has lived since.

Christina loved her family dearly. She also especially loved small children, animals, crocheting, crafts and gardening.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Orvin and Mary, Tuttle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Aggie and Richard Stecher, Glendive, Mont., and Gladys Pfeifle, Williston; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Rudolph, Sacramento, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and five siblings.

Walter Jensen
WILLISTON -- Walter Jensen, 71, rural Williston, died Oct. 8, 1997, at his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Williston. Burial will be in Hillside Memory Gardens, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; his son, Steve, Williston; and his daughter, Charlene Jensen, Williston. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Fanny Pease
PLAZA -- Fanny Pease, 105, Plaza, died Oct. 7, 1997, in a Parshall nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Lutheran Church, Plaza. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Minot.

She is survived by one daughter, Mildred Dunlap, Spring Lake Park, Minn.; and two sons, Walter, Anchorage, Alaska, and John, Houston. (Johnson Funeral Home, Parshall).

Ray Szarkowski
Ray J. Szarkowski, 79, formerly of Bismarck, died Oct. 8, 1997, in the New Salem Nursing Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.
