Kaylee Rae Mosbrucker
WILLISTON -- Kaylee Rae Mosbrucker, the infant daughter of Josh and Mischell Mosbrucker, Williston, was born and died Sept. 12, 1997, in the Williston hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Garden of the Angels Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by her parents; one sister, Brittney, at home; her grandparents, Beverly Coleman, Dean Jose and Shirley Mosbrucker, all of Bismarck, and Joe Mosbrucker, Lincoln; and her great-grandparents, Doris and Gordon McAvoy, and Irene Jose, all of Bismarck, and Barbara Mosbrucker, New Salem. Hans Christian Fredericks
TWIN BUTTES -- Hans Christian Fredericks, 35, Twin Buttes, died Sept. 13, 1997, in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Gregory Black Cloud
CANNON BALL -- Gregory Emerson Black Cloud, 46, Cannon Ball, died Sept. 11, 1997, in a St. Paul, Minn., hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Building, Cannon Ball, with the Rev. Raymond W. Berry officiating. Burial will be in Big Lake Cemetery, Cannon Ball.

Emerson was born June 15, 1951, in Cannon Ball, to Narcise and Nancy Black Cloud. He enjoyed Fancy-n-Grass Indian Dancing, art, riding horses and beading. He loved to joke and was one that was always smiling.

He is survived by one daughter, Crystal, Bismarck; four sons, Narcise, Shawn, Benjamen and David, all of Bismarck; two sisters, Blanche White Eagle, Cannon Ball, and Amelia Many Horses, Fort Yates, one brother, Frederick, Cannon Ball; and two grandchildren, Gary Dean Red Shirt and Gage Black Cloud. Edna Sanders
DICKINSON -- Edna Sanders, 85, Dickinson, died Sept. 11, 1997, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Juanita Gordon
RICHARDTON -- Juanita A. Gordon, 81, Richardton, died Sept. 12, 1997, in the Richardton nursing home. Services will be held at 7 tonight at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with burial in Kermit Cemetery, Kermit, Texas.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne, Pacific Way, Wash., and Donald, Belfield.

Dale Laib
Dale Laib, 52, Bismarck, died Sept. 12, 1997, in his home. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Robert Murie
JAMESTOWN -- Robert A. Murie, 74, Jamestown, died Sept. 13, 1997, in Jamestown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Wimbledon, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Robert A. Murie was born Dec. 7, 1922, at Langdon, to William and Alice (Seeley) Murie. He graduated from Langdon High School, excelling in sports with two "All Staters" for basketball. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science for two years, and then enlisted in the Naval Air Corps. His training took him to Iowa City, Norman, Okla., Corpus Christi, Texas, Florida and San Diego, Calif. From there he was assigned to a carrier squadron.

He saw combat action in Layte Gulf, Mindero, the South China Seas -- including covering the invasion landings on Linguan and Subic Bays and the Iwo Jima campaign. Bob was promoted to Lt. j.g. in 1944.

He returned to the United States in March 1945 from the Philippines area where he had participated in 59 combat missions from the deck of a Navy carrier and 101 missions in all. He received four air medals, one distinguished flying cross and a presidential unit citation for his aerial flights against enemy forces of the Philippines Islands, Iwo Jima and the South China Sea areas.

He was discharged in April 1947 and enrolled at North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo, majoring in agriculture. Bob and Fay Tallackson were married Sept. 4, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hoople. They farmed in the Langdon-Mapes area before going to Perley, Minn., to manage a Peavey elevator. From there he was with Harvest States, managing elevators in Gardner and Wimbledon. In 1963 he went on the road as a feed consultant for Harvest States out of the Edgeley plant. They built a new home there and retired from there in 1982, and moved a double-wide to Spiritwood Lake. Their winters were spent in Apache Junction, Ariz.

Bob had been a member of the Methodist church all his life, and also has been an American Legion member for years. When working, he was active in various livestock organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Faye; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Karen, Fargo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Candace and Greg Hochhalter, Wing, and Lori and Dan Bybee, Kensal; three grandchildren, Kyle Murie, and Nathan and Kayla Hochhalter; one brother and two sisters-in-law, William and Nyla Murie, Cottonwood, Ariz., and Zilpha Murie, Langdon; and one sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Paul Torgeson, Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; and an infant son, Raymond. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Delores Garwick
Delores C.R. "De" Garwick, 73, Bloomington, Minn., died peacefully Sept. 12, 1997, in a Bloomington nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, with inurnment in Bismarck.

Delores Ricker was born in Wishek and graduated from Bismarck High School. She attended the University of Minnesota and had been a lab tech at Mayo Clinic, a paralegal, the author of a book and a longtime volunteer at Hennepin County Court Services and Fairview Southdale Hospital.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Ann, Maple Plain, Minn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Chris Garwick-Foley and Mike Foley, St. Louis Park, Minn.; her twin sister and brother-in-law, Ledores and Duane Robey, Bismarck; two granddaughters, Karen and Kirsten Garwick; one nephew, Dana Robey; and two nieces, Carol Lear and Jennifer Williams.

The family prefers memorials to Mt. Olivet Counseling Services. (David Lee Funeral Home, Wayzata, Minn.)

Matt Ternes
LEMMON, S.D. -- Services for Matt Ternes, 81, Lemmon, will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon, with the Rev. Ron Garry officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon.

Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Monday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Matt was born Aug. 18, 1916, at Raleigh, the oldest son of Emanuel and Aurora (Miller) Ternes. He grew up on a farm in the Raleigh-Flasher area and attended school in Flasher. Matt worked for Ted Halvorson near Grand Forks in the early 1930s. He married Mavis Bunn of Elgin Nov. 25, 1946, in New Leipzig. They farmed near Raleigh and later moved into Raleigh where Matt managed a bar for eight years. Matt was a founding member of Raleigh Saddle and Rodeo Clubs, and was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying baseball. He played first base and pitched for Raleigh for 26 years. They moved to Lemmon in 1958, where he worked on construction and also helped pave the streets of Lemmon. Matt also hauled mail for Arnold and Agnes Molitor for many years. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's many activities. Matt also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons, gardening, working in his yard and traveling. Matt was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon. Matt was diagnosed with cancer in September 1996. He passed from this life a year later, on Sept. 12, 1997, at the age of 81 years and 21 days in the Hettinger hospital.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mavis; one son, Kevin, Spokane, Wash.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine and Ron Rugland, Mandan, Maureen and Vern Wandler, Tacoma, Wash., and Kelly and Robert Dewey, Dickinson; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Victor and Mary, Flasher, William and Clendora, Tacoma, Wash., and Roger, Palm Springs, Calif.; one sister and brother-in-law, Isabella and William Pew, Santa Maria, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Brian and Lance Rugland, Seth and Justin Dewey, Tammy and Trinity Wandler, Trampas Wandler and Kendra Huey; one great-grandson, Dawson Wandler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.

Hans Fredericks
TWIN BUTTES -- Hans Christian Fredericks, 35, Twin Buttes, died Sept. 13, 1997, in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 11 a.m. CST Wednesday at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall, with the Rev. Stephen Kranz officiating. Music will be provided by Keith Bear, Casey Fredericks and Loren Fredericks. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Twin Buttes.

A viewing and rosary for the family will be held at 4 p.m. today at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Visitation will begin at 6 tonight at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall, where a rosary will be said at 7:30.

Hans was born April 30, 1962, in Dickinson, to Kenneth and Gisela (Steinhofer) Fredericks. He was raised on his father's ranch in Twin Buttes, and attended elementary school to the fifth grade. In 1972, the family moved to Bismarck, where Hans attended Riverside Elementary, Wachter Junior High and Bismarck High School. In 1978, Hans went to Virginia and attended George Marshall High. He returned to North Dakota and graduated from Halliday High School in 1980. He attended New Mexico State University and Dickinson State University.

In 1986, he married Brenda Locken in New Town. They lived in Twin Buttes, with their three children, Shadd, Shauna and Shanyce. After his family, Hans' next greatest love was rodeoing, competing exclusively in the bull riding event. He competed for several years in both professional, regional and local rodeo associations. Hans was well-liked and respected by all his friends and peers, and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his mother, Gisela M. Fredericks, Twin Buttes; his wife, Brenda; three children, Shadd, Shauna and Shanyce, all of Twin Buttes; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Paul and Penny, Ken and Pamela, Lyndon and Lucy, and Jeb, all of Twin Buttes; two half-sisters, Carla and Melanie, both of Boulder, Colo.; and numerous friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Sr. and Catherine Fredericks; his father, Kenneth Sr.; and one sister, Marie.

Asa Winters
Asa Winters, 90, Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, died Sept. 12, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Fort Yates, with the Rev. John Floberg officiating. Burial will be in Reed Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at the church.

Asa was born March 7, 1907, in Fort Yates, the son of Louis and Nancy (Blue Lips) Winters. Asa was raised and educated in the Fort Yates area. He worked in the school system as a custodian. Asa had been a resident of Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, since Jan. 12, 1990.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, John Pleets, Patty Isselhardt, Jerdine McDowell and Thelma Hohenstein.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Francis; and two sisters, Susan Winters and Lydia Iron Shield. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Walter Gjellstad
VELVA -- Walter Everett Gjellstad, 76, Velva, died Sept. 13, 1997, in his home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Verendrye.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; two daughters, Leann Dilse, Scranton, and Laurel Bjornstad, Vancouver, Wash.; two sons, Roger, Stanley, and Robert, Voltaire; and three sisters, Sigrid Johannson, Stockholm, Sweden, Thelma Lund, Chicago, and Verna Schock, Velva. Ron Walz
ZAP -- Ron Walz, 54, Zap, died of cancer, Sept. 15, 1997, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Aneda Hemnes
BEACH -- Aneda R. Hemnes Weiser, 85, Beach, died Sept. 11, 1997, in her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Beach, with burial in Beach Lutheran Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, William; and one brother, Garvie Hemnes, Gardner Ville, Nev. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach)

Rebecca Burt
DEVILS LAKE -- Rebecca L. Burt, 27, Devils Lake, died Dec. 31, 1997, at her home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Aaker, Dunnigan & Brooks Funeral Home, Devils Lake.

She is survived by her father, Barry of Doyon; her mother, Frances Burt of Devils Lake; two brothers, Dana of Devils Lake and David of Bismarck; three sisters, Rosemary Salisbury of Rochester, N.Y., Rhonda Skurdall and Rachel Hach, both of Devils Lake; and her grandfather, Frank Schepp of Devils Lake. Gary Dronen
FARGO -- Gary O. Dronen, 40, Fargo, died Jan. 1, 1998, in a Fargo hospital. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Ivers-Landblom Funeral Home Chapel, Fargo. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Oriska.

He is survived by one sister, Janice Johnson, Mandan. (Ivers-Landblom Funeral Home, Fargo)

Arnold Gilbert Sr.
CENTER -- Arnold "Arnie" Gilbert Sr., 73, Center, died Jan. 1, 1998, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Center, with the Rev. Jay Spoonheim officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Arnold Charles Gilbert was born on March 7, 1924, in Bently, the son of John W. and Doris (Evans) Gilbert. He was raised on the family farm and educated in Bert. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946.

He married Iris M. Fohl on May 1, 1949, in Mott. He was employed with Central Bus Lines of Bismarck and Bismarck Cab Co. during the 1950s.

He then joined the Plasterers and Cement Masons Local 897 and was a past president of the union. Arnie and his family moved to Center on July 4, 1964, where he participated in the construction of several power plants in the area. He retired in 1989.

Arnie was an avid fisherman and hunter, loving the time he spent in the outdoors. Some of his greatest joys were his yard and garden, and being with his family and friends. He was loved by many and we will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Iris; seven sons and six daughters-in-law, David and Nita of Madera, Calif., James and Diana of Zap, Arnold Jr. and Mary of Kennewick, Wash., Tracy and Karen of Cupertino, Calif., Paul of Gillette, Wyo., Bruce and Tammy of San Jose, Calif., and Phillip and Bernice of New Bedford, Mass.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris and Harold, and Carrie, all of rural Hannover, and Rita and Dale of Center; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Delora and Chester Olson of Mott, and Mable Jane and Virden Hoffman of Sapielpa, Okla.; one brother, John Jr. of Joplin, Missouri; 24 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jerry, in 1992. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Katherine Klein
RUGBY -- Katherine Black Klein, 82, Rugby, died Dec. 31, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Little Flower Catholic Church, Rugby. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery, Towner.

She is survived by four daughters, Ilene Mattern of Rugby, Joan Voeller of Mandan, Linda Polanchek of Dickinson of and Eunice Venstad of Belfield; one son, Michael Black of Rugby; four sisters, Mary Ripplinger of Devils Lake, Margaret Bischoff of Rugby, Joann Nelson of Cando and Phyllis Miller of Wauseon, Ohio; and one brother, Mike Kurtz of Devils Lake. Joshau Kuhn
NEW SALEM -- Joshau "Josh" Kuhn, 17, New Salem, died Jan. 1, 1998, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be 10 a.m. MST Monday at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Dave Zimmer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, both at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. MST Sunday at the church. A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. CST Saturday at Weigel Funeral Home. A prayer vigil will be said at 7:30 p.m. MST Sunday at the church in New Salem.

Josh was born on Sept. 18, 1980, in Mandan, the son of Darrell and Doreen (Doll) Kuhn. He received his elementary education in New Salem and was a junior at New Salem High School.

Josh was an active member of St. Pius Church and participated in the Catholic Youth Organization. He was a great help to the pastors of his church by being a dedicated altar server for many years.

Josh's interests revolved around sports, especially football, where he was the quarterback for the New Salem High School Football Team.

He was a natural leader, giving special encouragement to the younger players on the team. His dedication to the team was evident when playing in four games even with a broken finger. He also enjoyed all the sports on TV.

Josh could tell you the names of players on various teams including the trades and transfers of individual players. He also enjoyed country music, horseriding, and the simple things such as the sunset. He loved working on the family farm, having a unique interest in cattle and his pet dog, Jake.

He is survived by his parents, Darrell and Doreen, New Salem; one brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Michelle, Steele; one sister, Jenny Kuhn, Bismarck; his grandparents, Joseph and Helen Doll, New Salem; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Betty Kuhn. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Martha Opp
GLEN ULLIN -- Martha Opp, 96, Glen Ullin, died Jan. 2, 1998, in Glen Ullin. Services will be 10:30 a.m. MST Monday at First Baptist Church, Hebron, with the Revs. David Ling, Art Wetzel and Victor Gross officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. MST Sunday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, where a prayer service will be said at 7:30 p.m. MST Sunday. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services to church on Monday.

Martha was born on July 27, 1901, to Jacob and Margaret (Suess) Luithle, in Hebron. She was raised and educated south of Hebron near the Heart River. She worked in Mandan, Bismarck and in Hebron.

She married Gottlieb Opp Jr. on February 22, 1923, in rural Hebron. Following their marriage, the farmed northeast of Hebron. Martha was blessed with the gift of giving, and she would always share whatever it was she had.

In 1969, they retired and moved into Hebron, where she resided until entering the Marian Manor Nursing Home in Glen Ullin in March of 1990. Gottlieb died on July 9, 1978.

She loved horses and riding horses. She enjoyed her life on the farm and raising her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wilbert and Elsie, Hebron, and Vernon, Butte, Mont.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Esther and Art Wetzel, Glen Ullin, and Elaine and Leo Peltz, Palm Harbor, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild; and two sisters, Clara Fehr, Minneapolis, and Lydia Greff, Staples, Minn.
