WILLISTON -- Vera McClelland, 94, Williston, died Jan. 15, 1998, at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston.

She is survived by one son, Duane, Salem, Ore.; and two daughters, Laurel Poeckes, Williston, and Donna Widmayer, Miller, S.D. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Robert Nicholson
MOFFIT -- Robert "Al" Nicholson, 84, Moffit, well-known Burleigh and Emmons Counties rancher, died Jan. 14, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Glencoe Presbyterian Church, Glencoe, with the Rev. Ben Dove officiating. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Art was born on Oct. 22, 1913, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the son of Archie and Katie (McDearmint) Nicholson. He moved with his family to Moffit, when he was six months old. Art married Carol Nelson on March 27, 1941 in Mandan. She died March 2, 1964.

He served on the Morton Township Board for many years.

Art leaves one daughter and son-in-law, Vonnie and John Weisz, Hazelton; six sons and two daughters-in-law, Tom, Quartzsite, Ariz., Lyle, Harvey, La., Tim and Darnell, both of Hazelton, Bill and Leland, and Bernard and Gale, all of Moffit; seven grandchildren, Carol and Shelly Weisz, Bismarck, Tavis, Justin, and Jordan Nicholson, all of Hazelton, and Nichole and Alexis Nicholson, both of Moffit; and one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gerry, Sheridan, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one son, Ronald; and one brother, Albert. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Eleanora Moonen
Eleanora L. Moonen, 72, Bismarck, died Jan. 15, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. CST Monday, at Spring Creek Cemetery, Dodge.

Visitation will begin Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m., at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will resume for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Eleanora was born July 28, 1925, in Golden Valley, the daughter of Max and Pauline (Schwartzman) Trusskey. Eleanora married Andrew Specht in 1945. They spent most of their years in the Dodge area. Eleanora moved to the Fargo area after the death of Andrew in 1967. She attended IBC and worked in the Fargo area until retirement in 1990. Eleanora married Albert Moonen in 1971. They have resided in Bismarck since 1990.

Eleanora loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching TV game shows, working word games and playing cards. She especially enjoyed spending time at the Burleigh County Senior Center.

Eleanora is survived by her husband, Albert; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Donna Stern, Springfield, Mo., James and Voni Specht, Hawley, Minn., and Dennis and Sheila Specht, Center; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Wilfred Fetch, Germantown, Wis., Mae and Tom McCone, Tonasket, Wash., June and Vern Barnhardt, Bismarck, Betty and Gary Duttenhefer, Dickinson, Maxine and Steve Malsam, Bismarck, Luan and Ken Rudnick, Anamoose, and Carol Vazquez, St. Rose, La.; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Charlene Trusskey, Leo and Opal Trusskey, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one sister, Esther Ermann, Dickinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Specht; her daughter, Darlene; her parents; and her brother, Alvin. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Carl Gabriel
Carl E. Gabriel, 71, 405 South 16th Street, Bismarck, died Jan. 16, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, both at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Carl E. Gabriel was born on Oct. 30, 1926, in Hague, the son of Eugene and Margaret (Kraft) Gabriel. He was raised and educated in Hague. He married Clara Glatt of Zeeland at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, on Nov. 15, 1948.

They farmed near Strasburg for three and one-half years before moving to Bismarck. Carl worked for Bismarck Grocery for 15 years. He also worked for Timmons and Sheehans as a food broker, until his retirement in 1981, due to his health.

Carl was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles Club in Bismarck.

Carl enjoyed bowling, as well as, shooting pool at the Eagles Club. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; two sisters, Emilia Schaffer, Bismarck, and Katherine Lethmann, Minneapolis; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, John and Rose, Bismarck, Joe and Francis, Minneapolis, Mike and Betty, and Aloys, all of Strasburg, Ervin, Farmington, N.M., and Anna Gabriel, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents; one brother, Anton; and one sister, Mary Schepp. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Robert Nicholson

Derek Fleck
SOLEN -- Derek A. Fleck, 19, Solen, died Jan. 15, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, both at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

Derek was born on June 7, 1978, in Bismarck, to Emanuel and Kathleen (Kirsch) Fleck. He was raised and educated in Flasher, graduating from Flasher High School in 1996. He was presently attending Bismarck State College, majoring in business administration. Derek also worked part time at Bismarck State College. During his spare time, he loved to read about the history of the United States and North Dakota.

Derek loved basketball, his collection of cars, history, and enjoyed doing farm work.

He is survived by his mother, Kathleen, Solen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Emanuel and Linda, Bismarck, and William and Amy, Mandan; and one sister, Colette Fleck, Solen; one niece, Amanda; and two nephews, Brandon and William.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel; and his grandparents. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Marvin Engraf
HETTINGER -- Marvin D. Engraf, 61, Hettinger, died Jan. 15, 1998, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephen Sherer officiating.

Marvin D. Engraf, son of Clarence and Evelyn (Stenberg) Engraf was born on Dec. 20, 1936, in Wolf Butte Township on the family farm, and he attended Argonne No. 1 country school. After his parents' deaths, Marvin lived with his uncle Arvid Engraf and went to Bucyrus High School. He furthered his education at North Dakota State University in Fargo and the School of Auctioneering in Billings, Mont., before serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958. On July 8, 1961, he married Linda Olson; that fall, Marvin established the "Butte View Angus Farm" which they currently own. It is a small grain and cattle farm, specializing in replacement heifers. Marvin received the Soil Conservation Award for conservation practices.

He was a member of Adams County Soil Conservation Board, FMHA Advisory Board, Hettinger Equity Board, and the Hettinger Lutheran Church.

Giving hugs were important to Marvin, he will be greatly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Linda, Marvin is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Brett Wilen, Piedmont, S.D., and Shelly and Delroy Siewert, Reeder; his son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Michelle Engraf, Hettinger; six granddaughters, Kristen Wilen, Christina Siewert, Danielle Siewert, Arianne Siewert, Marissa Engraf, and Alexandra Engraf; and three brothers, Clifford and Wayne, both of Hettinger, and Daryl, Littleton, Colo. Marlyn Baker
MINOT -- Marlyn Baker, 65, Minot, died Jan. 12, 1998, in a Minot hospital from complications associated with open heart surgery. Services were held on Jan. 16, 1998, at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot. Burial was in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Marlyn was born July 12, 1932, in Minot, to Clifford and Minnie Baker. He was raised in Minot and attended Minot public schools. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 17, 1952, and served until his discharge on Jan. 31, 1954. He received the United Nations Medal and two bronze campaign stars for his service during the Korean Conflict.

He married M. Lois Bolyard on Dec. 1, 1951, in Minot. Following his discharge from the military, they made their home in Minot, where he attended Minot Business College and received specialized training in accounting. He was employed by Northern States Power Co., as a sales representative prior to his retirement in 1972, due to a medical disability. They had continued to make their home in Minot.

He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club, Vincent United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 26, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 753, all in Minot, and the Disabled American Veterans and the "Trench Rats".

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Steven, Minot, and Paul and Richard, both of Bismarck; five grandchildren; two brothers, Donovan, "Bud", Yakima, Wash., and Lyle, Minot; and five sisters, Evelyth Wohlk, Garrison, Lorraine Anderson, Yakima, Vergil Duhamel, Devils Lake, Madelyn Johnson, Oregon City, Ore., and Sharon Nelson, Minot. Pauline Odenbach
FORMAN -- Pauline Odenbach, 79, Forman, formerly of Page and Tower City, died Jan. 15, 1998, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Tower City. Burial will be in Page Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Gary, Lincoln, Neb.; one daughter, Bonnie Temple, Rutland; three brothers, James Kummer, Indiana, Bruce Kummer, Los Angeles, and Bud Kummer, West Fargo; and five sisters, Shirlene Hollekim, Jamestown, Norma Schrader, Indiana, Pat Brown, Great Falls, Mont., Sandra Kummer, Lynnwood, Wash., and Dena Kummer, Great Falls, Mont. Alma Anderson
LISBON -- Alma O. Anderson, 82, Lisbon, and formerly of Brinsmade, died Jan. 15, 1998, in a Lisbon nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Leeds Lutheran Church, Leeds. Burial will be in Antiochia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Churchs Ferry.

She is survived by four daughters, Lana Ose and Carol Jensen, both of Lisbon, Bonnie Mann, Nashville, and Diane Whalen, York; one son, David, Churchs Ferry; and one brother, Maynard Stensby, Devils Lake. (Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds)

Josephine Hoirup
LEHR -- Josephine Hoirup, 94, Lehr, died Jan. 16, 1998, in a Wishek hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Grace Lutheran Church, Lehr. Burial will be in Lehr City Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Muriel Lautt, Lodi, Calif., and Lorna Scherbenske, Ashley; three brothers, Amos Brinkman, August Brinkman and Leo Brinkman, all of Wishek; and one sister, Faye Bakkila, Moorhead, Minn. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Darlene Walsh
MINOT -- Darlene Walsh, 64, Minot, died Jan. 13, 1998, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. today, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Olga Karges
HAZEN -- Olga Karges, 80, rural Hazen, died Jan. 14, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Alan Hathaway officiating. Burial will be in Nesbitt Cemetery, south of Hazen.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. MST Sunday, at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

She is survived by four sons, Bryan, Randall and Perry, all of rural Hazen, and Marshall, rural Stanton; one daughter, Dawn Michelson, Mali, Africa; one brother, Archie Otnes, Grants Pass, Ore.; and four sisters, Fay Garner, Oregon City, Ore., Eunice Workinger, Halsey, Ore., Lois McKinney and Janice Gentry, both of Portland, Ore. Thomas Stangeland
WILLISTON -- Thomas Stangeland, 79, Williston, died Jan. 16, 1998, in the Miles City, Mont. nursing home. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

Juanita Robinson
