JAMESTOWN -- Josie Parfit Uecker, 88, Whitefish, Mont., died Jan. 17, 1998, in a Whitefish nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Hilda Edinger
CARSON -- Hilda Edinger, 74, Carson, died Jan. 16, 1998, in the Elgin hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Carson, with the Rev. Ken Trana officiating. Burial will be in Carson Cemetery.

Hilda was born Feb. 14, 1923, at Elgin, to Martin L. and Eva (Heyne) Kepplin. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. George C. Landgrebe at Elgin, and confirmed by the Rev. E. Wunhofer at Elgin. She received her education at Elgin and lived at her parents' farm until her marriage to Paul Edinger of New Leipzig on Nov. 26, 1944. They moved to a farm southwest of New Leipzig until 1959 when they bought a farm northeast of Carson. They moved to Carson in the fall of 1976.

Hilda enjoyed participating in mock weddings, parades and dressing for Halloween. She also liked to embroider and made many dish towels for everyone. Her pride and joy was driving her "B" John Deere through parades.

She is survived by six sons and five daughters-in-law, Donald Sr. and Beth, Carson, Thomas and Rose, Selfridge, Douglas and Carrie, Moroni, Utah, Timothy and Lynn, Grantsville, Utah, Clifford and his friend, Carson, and Dwight and Gequita, Carson; one sister, Ruth Hintz, Austin, Colo.; one brother, Richard Kepplin, Glen Ullin nursing home; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on Feb. 8, 1977; one grandson, Donald Edinger Jr., June 5, 1987; her parents; and one sister, Alma Ketterling.

He is survived by his wife, Alva; six sons, Dale, London, Ontario, Canada, Dennis, Maddock, Marvin, Los Angeles, Philip and Paul, both of Maddock, and Nathan, Hampton, Minn.; and two brothers, Norman, Crystal, Minn., and Charles, Fergus Falls, Minn. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Ralph Beach
JAMESTOWN -- Ralph Beach, 81, Jamestown, died Jan. 17, 1998, in Jamestown. No services will be held. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Audrey L. Cave, 76, 1155 N. Third St., died Jan. 17, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Herman Eklo
MOBRIDGE, S.D. -- Herman Eklo, 83, Mobridge, died Jan. 17, 1998, in the Mobridge nursing home. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mobridge, with burial in Mobridge Cemetery.

Melvin Enzminger
MEDINA -- Melvin Enzminger, 61, Medina, died Jan. 16, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Medina, with burial in Medina Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; four sons, Jeffrey, Medina, Terrell, Ypsilanti, Kendall, Medina, and Blane, Jamestown; two daughters, Cynthia Schlecht, Medina, and Jody Schmaltz, Tappen; his mother, Lydia Enzminger, Jamestown; two brothers, Larry, Tappen, and Donald, Phoenix; and five sisters, Ramona Mayer, Medina, Verna Pfaff, Tappen, Vangie Mittlieder, Jamestown, Marlys Schmidt, Boise, Idaho, and Donna Homer, Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.

Richard 'Jim' Lippert
JAMESTOWN -- Richard "Jim" James Lippert, 80, Jamestown, died Jan. 17, 1998, in Jamestown. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with burial in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

James R. Lippert was born June 29, 1917, in Eldridge, the son of Richard G. and Emma S.E. (Clemens) Lippert. He grew up and attended school in Lippert Township near Eldridge. He farmed with his father in the Eldridge area.

He married Bernice Whitney July 1, 1940, in Jamestown. They made their home in rural Eldridge, where he farmed. In 1968 they moved to Seattle, Wash., where they lived until 1969, when they returned to Jamestown. He worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service for more than 30 years.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, and Jamestown Eagles.

He is survived by one brother and two sisters-in-law, Wilbur and Grace Lippert, Elmhurst, Ill., and Marcelle Maurer, Westwood, N.J.; a special friend, Evelyn Tompkins, Jamestown; three nephews, Scott Maurer, Ho Ho Kus, N.J., William "Bill" Maurer, Westwood, and Robert "Bob" Maurer, Warren, Ohio; and two nieces and their spouses, Nancy and John Walsh, Palm Coast, Fla., and the Rev. Muriel and Paul Lippert Schauer, Wilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister. (Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Leo Plante
JUD -- Leo J. Plante, 73, Jud, died Jan. 18, 1998, in the Jamestown hospital. Arrangements are pending at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Yvonne Smith
BOWMAN -- Yvonne Carolyn Smith, 59, Bowman, died Jan. 17, 1998, at her home after a long battle with cancer. Her courage, strength and faith were an inspiration to her family and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. MST Wednesday at at Bowman Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Chet Cataldo officiating. Spring burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery.

Yvonne was born Nov. 29, 1938, in Valley City, the fourth child of Maynard and Violet Hansen. She lived her early years in Litchville, moving to Absaraka in 1942, when her father accepted the manager position at J.C. Miller Elevator.

There the family grew to number nine, when Yvonne and her sisters and brother were joined by two more brothers and a sister. She attended grade school in Absaraka and high school in Wheatland, graduating as co-validictorian of her class in 1956. She was involved in basketball, chorus, band and theater.

She married her high school sweetheart, Mahlon Bernell Smith, Sept. 25, 1956, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Fargo. The first of their children arrived in 1958, followed by three more children over the years as they moved from the Smith family farm at Wheatland to Fargo and then to West Fargo.

After living in Mandan for a few years, they moved to Bowman in 1977. In 1986, Mahlon and Yvonne opened Mahlon Smith Repair, where Yvonne helped with the bookkeeping. Yvonne worked hard over the years as a wife and mother, caregiver to her own mother, grandmother to seven grandchildren, bookkeeper and secretary.

She loved golf, her afternoon bridge club and singing with the church choir and the Bowman Community Chorus. Her many interests included the piano, antiquing and auctions with her daughters and friends, and teaching her sons and grandchildren basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, Mahlon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mahlon Ivan and Traci Cheree Smith, Wahpeton, and Milo and Fawn Smith, Grand Forks; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cathy and Gary Orcutt, Bowman, and Dawn Stinchfield, Bowman; seven grandchildren, Derek, Danton, Michael, Kristy, Brandon, Brayden and Jorey; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dale Hanson, Maynard "Butch" and Karen, and Scott and Susan; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ginger Carpenter, Janice and Bob Mickelson, and Judy and Ken Anderson. Bernice Wendschlag
MINOT -- Bernice G. Wendschlag, 72, Minot, died Nov. 26, 1997, in Minot. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond, with burial in Fillmore Cemetery.

She is survived by three brothers, Ivan Thompson, Esmond, Merlin Thompson, Kenai, Alaska, and Jack Thompson, Ellensburg, Wash.; and two sisters, Ruth Kaemerle, Palos Verdes, Calif., and Grace Johnson, Stanley.

Jacob Bosch
STRASBURG -- Jacob G. Bosch, 70, Strasburg, died Dec. 29, 1997, in the Linton hospital. Services will be 10-30 a.m. Friday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by one brother, John of Mobridge, S.D.; and three sisters, Rose Bernhardt of Linton, Barbara Bosch of Strasburg and Helen Stoppler of Bismarck. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Louis Felix
WHITE SHIELD -- Louis M. Felix II, White Shield, died Dec. 30, 1997, in the Parshall nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at White Shield Complex. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Norbert Germann
BOWMAN -- Norbert H. Germann, 85, Bowman, died Dec. 30, 1997, in a Sturgis, S.D., hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. MST Friday at Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman, with burial in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Bowman.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; three sons, Robert and John, both of Billings, Mont., and Jerry of Bowman; four daughters, Nila Foster of Newcastle, Wyo., Donna Boles of Bowman, Marilyn Robertson of Harrison, Neb., and Vonita Fetchin of Belle Fourche, S.D.; three sisters, Marion Silbernagel of Bowman, Rosemarie Barkart of Riverside, Calif., and Clara Heiser of Dickinson; and three brothers, Ray of Bowman, Robert of Glendive, Mont., and Richard of Adair, Okla.

Clifford Hinman
Services for Clifford Hinman will be 10 a.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. A Moose ritual will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Orvetta Mayers
Orvetta G. Mayers, 63, Bismarck, died Dec. 31, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Orvetta G. Olson was born Jan. 5, 1934, to John and Opal (Hammock) Olson in Bismarck. She graduated from Wilton High School.

Orvetta was united in marriage on July 5, 1954, to Daryll Mayers in Wilton. They lived in Colorado from 1955-1957, while Daryll was in the service.

In 1957, they returned to Bismarck, where they made their home and raised their family. Orvetta was a homemaker and also worked for J.C. Penney Co. for a year.

She is survived by her husband, Daryll; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Nancy of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Rick and Pam of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Brice Rippley of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Biesterfeld of Chicago; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eldean and Ernie Haslett of Anchorage, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bill, who died in 1978; and four brothers.

Glenice Torgerson
WILLISTON -- Glenice Torgerson, 76, Williston, died Dec. 30, 1997, in the Williston hospital. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by her husband, Stewart; one daughter, Barbara Axelson of Minot; three sons, Bruce of Bakersfield, Calif., Jim of Ray and Ron of Watertown, S.D.; and one brother, Gerald Holly of Mesa, Ariz. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Rose Wernke
Rose A. Wernke, 92, Onalaska, Wis., formerly of Bismarck, died Dec. 30, 1997, in the Onalaska nursing home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Onalaska, with burial in St. Francis of Assissi Mausoleum, Onalaska.

She is survived by one daughter, Joan Antony of Onalaska; and one sister, MaRee Yeasley of Bullhead City, Ariz. (Blaschke Funeral Home, Onalaska)

Harold Meyer
SELBY, S.D. -- Services for Harold A. Meyer, 76, Selby, formerly of Isabel, will be held at 10-30 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ, Isabel, with the Rev. Ron Brugger officiating. Special music will be provided by Ella Bachman and Eldon Jensen. Burial will be in Hillview Cemetery, Isabel.

Casketbearers will be Gene Huff, Albert Bachman, Albert Fritz, Marvin Bertsch, Ronald Waddell, Ervin Schuh and Jim Jameson.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon, and will continue one hour before services at the church.

Harold Arthur Meyer was born March 22, 1921, to Constant A. and Emma (Bindenagel) Meyer on their homestead in Liberty Township, Corson County, S.D. He grew up on the family farm and ranch and attended rural Lightcap School. He then attended Isabel High School and later graduated from McIntosh High School. While in McIntosh, he worked at the grocery store.

After high school, Harold worked with his parents on their farm and ranch and started building his own place, acre by acre. On May 29, 1945, Harold married Lorraine M. Adel in Miles City, Mont. They lived on his farm and began raising a family. Harold enjoyed ranching, raising cattle, sheep and chickens, but his true love was for the land and farming.

Harold was a pilot and owned an airplane. During the winter of 1948-1949, he helped many snowbound families by dropping mail, medicine and food at their homes out in the country. Harold enjoyed working with machinery and engines and appreciated modern advances in cars, airplanes, farming and ranching equipment. He was creative and quite resourceful as a mechanic and a welder. Harold was a kind man and lent a helping hand to any neighbor that needed help with any ranching or farming chores.

He served on the McIntosh School Board and on the Corson Conservation District from 1960-1990. While serving on this board, Harold built many dams, planted numerous trees and turned many acres to grass. He loved farming, gardening and seeing things grow and hated weeds. Harold was recently honored as a 50-year member of the Masonic Temple, from 1947-1997.

Harold enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting, playing cards and dominoes and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Harold's life and his love was farming. He loved to take anyone who would go, on a tour of his place to see the land and cattle.

Harold spent the last six years at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby where he received exceptionally loving care. He passed from this life there on Jan. 16, 1998, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 25 days.

Grateful for having shared his life are two daughters and one son-in-law, Connie Meyer, Bismarck, and Diana and Jack Pollart, Bozeman, Mont.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wiley and Jocelyn, Gillette, Wyo., and Derry and Betty, Isabel; one brother-in-law, Rudy Wagner, McIntosh, S.D.; and his grandchildren, Brent Pollart, Matthew, Jacob and Carly Meyer, Cody, Laramie and Shelby Meyer.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine; one grandson, Dillon Meyer; and one sister, Lucille Wagner.

A memorial will be established by the family.
