Joseph Brychta
Joseph Brychta, 83, Culbertson, Mont., formerly of Mandan, died Oct. 15, 1996, in the Culbertson nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 tonight.

Joseph Brychta was born Nov. 28, 1912, in Bismarck, the son of Frank and Rose Brychta. He was raised and educated in the rural Mandan area. Joe farmed most of his life in the rural Bismarck and Mandan areas. He was married to Agnes Picha. Agnes died in 1966. On March 25, 1975, Joe was united in marriage to Audrey Chapman. They lived in New Rockford. Audrey died in June 1991. Joe moved to Culbertson and lived with his step-daughter and her husband for several years. He later entered Roosevelt Memorial Nursing Home, Culbertson.

Joe enjoyed tinkering with cars, playing cards and riding motorcycles. He especially enjoyed playing his accordian, and as a younger man played in dance bands around the Mandan area.

He is survived by his step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Joyce and Stanley Johnson, Culbertson; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one step-daughter; several brothers and sisters; and a step-grandson.

Jerome Halsey Jr.
Jerome M. Halsey Jr., 61, 207 London Ave., Bismarck, died Oct. 17, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites provided by V.F.W. Post 1326.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jerome Halsey was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Solen, the son of Jerry and Josephine (Iron Road) Halsey. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 in the 101st and the 82nd Airborne Divisions. He married Hazel Kuntz in 1958 in Crookston, Minn. They lived a short time at Fort Yates and then moved to Los Angeles in 1959. He was a forklift operator and worked at various jobs in the Los Angeles area until moving to Bismarck in 1994. They renewed their marriage vows in August of 1992.

Jerome loved traveling, music, sports and his favorite saying was ``UCLA All The Way."

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; six daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and George Monroy, Bell Gardens, Calif., Susie Halsey, Patricia Halsey, Ann Halsey and Chris VanDerMeer, Sharon Halsey and Karen Halsey, all of Bismarck; two sons, Robert, Los Angeles, David, Bismarck; one sister, Frances Halsey, Bismarck; one brother, Timothy, Long Beach, Calif.; two nephews, Billy Halsey and Jesse Copeland, both of Bismarck; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Mark and John.

Roy Johnson
Roy Johnson, 62, 1821 N. 11th St., Bismarck, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Victory Family Bible Church, 703 N. Fifth St., Bismarck, with the Rev. Dom Vetter officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. in Tuttle Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Nadean, Bismarck; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Darrin and Charissa, Mandan, and Dale, Bismarck; one granddaughter, Angelique; and one great-granddaughter, Samantha.

Tillie Duttenhefer
Tillie Duttenhefer, 88, 1214 Simle Drive, Bismarck, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Irene Volochenko
MINOT -- Irene Volochenko, 69, Minot, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

She is survived by one son, Tony Jr., Lebanon, Ind.; four daughters, Luella Burlison, Tacoma, Wash., Lillian Latimer, Hazen, and Debora Ohlhauser and Marcy McNair, both of Minot; one brother, Leonard Mock, Minneapolis; and two sisters, Christine Arndt and Bertha Arndt, both of Minot. Myron Bauer
Myron E. Bauer, 46, 1719 E. Houston Drive, Bismarck, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Clara Muggli
GLEN ULLIN -- Clara Muggli, 68, Glen Ullin, died Oct. 19, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin. Further arrangements are pending with Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin.

Phyllis Reierson
HAZEN -- Phyllis J. Reierson, 70, Hazen, died Oct. 18, 1996, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church, Beulah. Burial will be in Hazen City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret Meihak; her husband, Woodrow; four daughters, Cynthia Miller and Ann Wiedrich, both of Hazen, Roberta Pflieger, Cando, and Cheryl Dehner, Poplar, Mont.; and one brother, Gene Sturtevant, Hillsboro, Ore.

Louis Koppinger
DICKINSON -- Louis Koppinger, 72, Dickinson, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Lefor. Further arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Katherine Burgad
STRASBURG -- Katherine Burgad, 90, Strasburg, died Oct. 17, 1996, in the Strasburg nursing home of cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue from 4 p.m. today until time of services at the church. A rosary will be said at 8 tonight at the church.

Katherine Reis was born Nov. 5, 1905, on a farm four miles east of Strasburg, the daughter of Anton and Helen (Wolf) Reis. She attended grade school at Strasburg. On Oct. 30, 1923, she married John Burgad at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. They farmed west of Strasburg for 41 years before moving into Strasburg in 1964. Her husband died Aug. 16, 1983. She entered the Strasburg Nursing Home in August of 1996.

She was a member of St. Mary's Society, and was an exceptional cook and gardener.

She is survived by two sons, Aloys J., Linton, and John Jr., Strasburg; four daughters, Angeline Hager and Helen Kramer, both of Strasburg, Marge Tschosik, Linton, and Hermina Mattern, Bismarck; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Theresa Senger, Mandan.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Mary Ann Wikenheiser; three sisters; three brothers; and two grandchildren.

Alvin Lipp
LINTON -- Alvin F. Lipp, 66, Linton, died Oct. 17, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Alan, Sartell, Minn.; two daughters, Lunette Sando, Bismarck, and LeeAnn Vetter, Linton; his mother, Elizabeth Lipp, Linton; three brothers, Richard, Pueblo, Colo., Ralph, Santa Maria, Calif., and Rodney, Minneapolis; and one sister, Corrine Ross, Breckenridge, Minn. Dwight McGinnis
WILTON -- Dwight B. McGinnis, 67, rural Wilton, died Oct. 18, 1996, at his home of natural causes. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Wilton, with the Rev. Mary-Lee Lint officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Wilton, with military graveside rites provided by Wilton American Legion.

Special music will be provided by Michelle Scallon, and pallbearers will be all of Dwight's grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Dwight Boyd McGinnis was born May 24, 1929, at Wilton, N.D., to E.D. and Alma (Myhra) McGinnis. He grew up on his parents' farm east of Wilton and graduated from Wilton High School in 1947. He studied mechanics at the State School of Science at Wahpeton, and then worked at the Red Owl Store in Fargo. Dwight married Betty Lou Neubauer July 29, 1950, at Fargo.

He served in the United States Army from March 1951 to April 1952 during the Korean War. After his discharge they moved to a farm east of Wilton where they farmed and raised livestock. Dwight also worked for many years as a rural mail carrier, either as the regular carrier or as a sub-carrier. He retired from the post office in 1991 but still remained active in the farming operation.

He was an avid sports fan with his favorite team being the Minnesota Vikings. He was a past president of Wilton School Board and a member of Wilton American Legion. He very much loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, rural Wilton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rod and Sue, Elko, Nev., John, Stephens City, Va., and Brett and Brenda, Wilton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Robert Bauer, Wilton, and Deborah and Robert Thorp, Deadwood, S.D.; 10 grandchildren, Desiree and Justin Thorp, Daren, Chad and Tanner McGinnis, Sean and Stefanie Bauer, Steven and Erin McGinnis, and Brandon McGinnis; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, David, Canada, Jim and Pat, Idaho, and Wilbur and Reiko, Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one granddaughter, Melanie Bauer.

Randell Fretty
WASHBURN -- Randell O. Fretty, 96, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Stanton and Washburn, died Oct. 17, 1996, in Mesa, Ariz. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton. Burial will be in Stanton City Cemetery.

He is survived by two sons, Donald, Mesa, and Keith, Kalispell, Mont.; two sisters, Guenella Brown, Seattle, Wash., and Rachel Eddy, Anchorage, Alaska; and two brothers, Clarence, Hazen, and Orville, Stanton. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn)

Geraldine Haar
Geraldine Vaughn Haar, 65, Bismarck, formerly of Tolstoy, S.D., died Oct. 19, 1996, at her home. Arrangements are pending with Miller Funeral Home, Bowdle, S.D.

Peter Roemmich
Peter Roemmich, 85, Steele, died Oct. 19, 1996, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, with the Rev. Jay Stratton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Peter was born Feb. 20, 1911, the son of George and Elizabeth (Nicklous) Roemmich, on their family farm in Peace Township in Kidder County. He grew up on the family farm. On Sept. 17, 1932, he married Emma Neumiller at Steele. They farmed south of Dawson for a few years. In 1950 they moved to Steele, where he worked for Wallin Motors. In 1972 they moved to Hazelton, where he worked as a janitor for Hazelton High School. They retired in 1980 and returned to Steele.

Peter enjoyed working on cars, especially Chevrolets, and gardening.

He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Violet Cavalier and her friend, Carl, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Arlene and Lester Strom, Kintyre; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrel and Linda, Albert Lea, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Stadel, Braddock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma, who died Sept. 27, 1996; six brothers, George, Rudolph, Jake, John, Art and Rienhold; and one sister, Minnie Frank; three grandchildren, Mark Roemmich, Karen Strom and Peter-Oscar Strom; and one daughter-in-law, Lucille Roemmich.

Myron Bauer
Myron Edward Bauer, 46, 1719 Houston Drive, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Myron was born Jan. 9, 1950, in Hazen, the son of Edward and Pauline (Laubenstein) Bauer. He was raised on a farm north of Zap and graduated from high school in 1967. He attended Dickinson State University and University of Mary. He entered the U.S. Army in 1969 and served in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart for a wound received in battle. He married Donna Miller in Stanton, Dec. 19, 1970. He began a career in sales after his discharge from the Army, first with K.G. Men's Store, Montgomery Ward and most recently, Eide Ford. At the time of his death, he and his wife, Donna, were owners of the Colonial Motel Campground and Lounge in Mandan.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Jeffrey and Jason, both of Bismarck; his mother, Pauline Bauer, Bismarck; two brothers, Roger Scheurer, Spokane, Wash., and Jim Bauer, Bismarck; and one sister, Claudia Bollinger, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward; and one infant son, Mark.

The family prefers memorials to Vietnam Veterans of North Dakota.

Clara Muggli
GLEN ULLIN -- Clara Muggli, 68, Glen Ullin, died Oct. 19, 1996, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the church where a wake service will begin at 7 tonight.

Clara was born Nov. 10, 1927, near Hebron, to Mathias and Mary (Schneider) Maershbecker. She was raised and educated near Hebron. She graduated from Hebron High School in 1945. She attended Dickinson State College and received a teaching certificate. Clara taught rural school near Hebron for one year and at Tavis School near Glen Ullin for two years. She married Ewald Muggli, Sept. 27, 1948, at St. Ann's Church in Hebron. They farmed near Glen Ullin for many years. In addition to raising her family, Clara held a number of interests outside the home which include establishing the bookmobile and the Glen Ullin library. She was a Girl Scout leader, secretary of the Glen Ullin Historical Society and a social services home health aide.

Clara and Ewald took an interest in rocks which developed into the Muggli Rock Shop and Museum which she was the co-owner and manager of. The Rock Shop led to her involvement in several North Dakota rock clubs. Clara was devoted to her church where she was the religion director and teacher for a number of years, Eucharistic minister and assisted with the communion services at Marian Manor and at church. She was also active in Christian Mothers, American Legion Auxiliary and Homemakers. Clara co-authored the Glen Ullin Yesteryears book. She was an avid card player, enjoyed square dancing, traveling and her garden. Clara was a believer in education and was considered a life-long learner.

She received the Who's Who of American Women Award for 1981-1982.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Sharon, Bismarck, and Gary and Deb, Thornton, Colo.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Josh Gartner, Glen Ullin, Joyce and Vern Urlacher, Salem, S.D., Carol and Tom Williams, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Holly and Frank Martinez, Jacksonville, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; one brother, Matt Maershbecker, Dickinson; and one sister, Anna Funk, Dickinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ewald, who died Aug. 21, 1994; one son, John; and one sister, Betty.

John Kinsvater
BUCYRUS -- John Kinsvater, 84, Bucyrus, died Oct. 19, 1996, in the Hettinger nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday at Bucyrus Lutheran Church, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one daughter, Marlys Kinsvater, Jamestown; and one brother, Jake, Greeley, Colo. (Walby Chapel, Hettinger)

Walter Wellman
Walter W. Wellman, 82, Barnesville, Minn., died Oct. 14, 1996, in the Barnesville nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, both of Barnesville.

He is survived by two sons, Robert, Champlin, Minn., and William, Baker; and two daughters, Betty Mertz, Bismarck, and Judy Thompson, Barnesville. (Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville)
