HAZEN -- Katherine Autery Pfliger, 78, Hazen, died Sept. 24, 1998, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. Burial will be in Gardens of Floral Hills Cemetery, Snohomish County, Wash.

She is survived by her husband, Adam; one son, William Pfliger; one daughter, Janice Etherton; and one brother, Calvin Autery. (Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen)

Emma Rath
JAMESTOWN -- Emma Lydia Rath, 92, Jamestown, died Sept. 26, 1998, in a Jamestown nursing home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

She is survived by one son, Virgil, Bowman. (Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Angeline Heraus
DICKINSON -- Angeline R. Heraus, 81, Dickinson, died Sept. 26, 1998, in a Dickinson hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson.

Edwin Meyer
Edwin "Eddie" Meyer, 89, 600 S. Ninth St., died June 2, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be his six grandsons.

Visitation is ongoing at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue until service time.

Eddie was born June 24, 1907, on the family farm near Baldwin, the son of Julius and Katherina (Spitzer) Meyer. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools. He married Wilma Graham Nov. 3, 1926. Wilma died in 1976. Eddie worked for Burleigh County Road Construction and Maintenance for 36 years. In an article in the Bismarck Tribune, March 1969, Eddie was called a ``knight of the road." He was always ready to go for any emergency and never turned anyone down in the worst snowstorms.

Eddie loved hunting and fishing, and after he retired he enjoyed bowling with the senior citizens.

He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jean and Leo Bickler, Hot Springs Village, Ark., Joanne and Frank Bavendick, Bismarck, and Leone Strandemo, Steele; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Rosie, Big Arm, Mont.; one brother, Albert, Bismarck; one sister, Louise Lenihan, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; his wife; and a very special friend, Margaret Sahli.

Eddie will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Lillian Garlick
Lillian Garlick, 81, Bismarck Baptist Home, died June 1, 1997, in the nursing home where she had been a resident since September 1985. Services will be held at at 10 a.m. CDT Thursday at Baptist Home Chapel, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. MDT Thursday at Regent Cemetery.

Visitation is ongoing at Boelter Funeral Home.

Lillian was born April 24, 1917, at Rockport, Ill., the youngest of 10 children.

She is survived by one niece, Kay Newby, Dickinson; and a special friend, Veronica Hopfauf, who provided special care for Lillian during her residency at the Baptist Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers; and sisters.

Lillian will be missed by the staff and residents of the Baptist Home.

Gladys Nelson
JAMESTOWN -- Gladys J. Nelson, 88, Jamestown, formerly of Braddock, died June 1, 1997, in a Jamestown nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, with the Revs. Gary Connors-Nelson and Cathy Connors-Nelson officiating.

Helen Roth will serve as organist, with special music provided by Marjo Headland and DyVonne Nelson. Burial will be in Tell Cemetery, rural Kintyre.

Visitation will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Thursday at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Pallbearers for the service are Doug Friestad, Soren Friestad, Rolf Svanes, Robert Weiss, Curtis Stanley and Tom Stanley.

Gladys was born March 17, 1909, at Wildrose, the daughter of Ole and Olena (Westley) Friestad. As a young girl she moved with her parents to a farm at rural Kintyre. She grew up there and received her elementary education in rural Kintyre schools.

Gladys went on to attend Oak Grove High School in Fargo, graduating in 1925. Gladys continued her education and attended Valley City Teachers College and received her degree in 1927. Gladys taught for a number of years in several North Dakota communities until her marriage to Fred Nelson March 31, 1934, at Valley City. They returned to the Nelson family farm near Braddock, where they lived until 1982. She then entered Central Dakota Village Nursing Home at Jamestown. Fred preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1983.

Gladys was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Tell, and served as the church organist for many years.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Olive and Richard Jacobson, Braddock, DoLores and Richard Kounovsky, Longmont, Colo., and Joyce and Tom Mueller, Jamestown; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl and Eunice, Braddock, Wallace and DyVonne, Amarillo, Texas, and Gary, El Dorado Hills, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; and one sister.

Gladys was the last of her immediate siblings.

Lucas Heisler
ESMOND -- Lucas Heisler, 83, Esmond, died June 3, 1997, in the Rugby hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond. Further arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond.

Luella Thompson
JAMESTOWN -- Luella Thompson, 72, Jamestown, died June 3, 1997, in Jamestown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with burial in Gem Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Steven, Jamestown, and Stuart, Steele; two brothers, Leo Schelske, Fargo, and Vernon Schelske, Medina; and three sisters, Norma Schweitzer, Eugene, Ore., June Bader, Medina, and Laura Eberhardt, Jamestown. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Darlene Kjosa
LEEDS -- Darlene Kjosa, 54, Leeds, died June 1, 1997, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Leeds, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Sandra Austin, Minot, and Connie Eleverud, Leeds; two sons, Robert Jr., Waukegan, Ill., and Paul, Spokane, Wash.; her parents, Jack and Louise McGarvey, Leeds; one brother, Robert McGarvey, Leeds; and one sister, Jackie Johnson, Leeds. Benedict Schutt
BEULAH -- Benedict S. Schutt, 74, Beulah, died June 2, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Irene Carey
Irene Wilson Carey, 72, Seattle, died May 12, 1997, in a Seattle hospital from complications arising after cancer surgery.

Born in Bismarck on Oct. 30, 1924, she was the daughter of John and Hazel Wilson, also of Bismarck. Irene was educated in Bismarck Public Schools and was named homecoming queen in 1942 at Bismarck High School. She graduated from Bismarck Junior College.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Scott Scherer Mercer Island, Wash.; one brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Joyce, Roseburg, Ore.; and her former husband, Bill Carey, Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Leo Schatz
Leo Schatz, 77, Zeeland, died of cancer May 31, 1997, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Zeeland, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Tillie; seven sons, Jim, Mandan, Kenneth, Minneapolis, Wayne, Sacramento, Calif., Richard, Beulah, Steve, Red Bluff, Calif., Dean, Fort Collins, Colo., and Randy, Baumholder, Germany; two daughters, Marilyn Loos, Mesa, Ariz., and Shirley Genz, Mandan; two brothers, Roy, Strasburg, and Al, Mandan; and eight sisters, Sister Michaeline Schatz, St. Paul, Minn., Lillian Welder, Zeeland, Elizabeth Wolf, Othello, Wash., Hilda Weigel, Minneapolis, Katie Hulm, Hague, and Eugenia Welk, Rita Geffre and Rose Kraft, all of Strasburg. ASHLEY -- Johanna Frankfurth, 93, Bismarck, formerly of Ashley, died June 2, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

DICKINSON -- Ralph C. Schmidt, 65, Dickinson, died June 3, 1997, in Dickinson. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Agnes Myers
DICKINSON -- Agnes Myers, 73, Dickinson, died June 3, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Private services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, with inurnment in Colorado.

She is survived by one daughter, Robertta Lemoi, Aurora, Colo.; two sons, Robert Koltes, Crookston, Minn., and Jim Myers, Grand Forks; three sisters, Ann Scheeler, Little Falls, Minn., Christine Koltes, Hettinger, and Mary Urlacher, Trinidad, Colo. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Irene Lorenz
BOWMAN -- Irene Marie Lorenz, 68, Bowman, died May 31, 1997, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Bowman.

WIMBLEDON -- Charlotte Schulz, 45, Wimbledon, died June 2, 1997, in Wimbledon. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn; one son, Joshua, Wimbledon; one daughter, Heidi Schulz, Wimbledon; her mother, Lorene Paasch, Wimbledon; five sisters, Dianne Purcell, Wimbledon, Marjorie Triebold, Dazey, Karen Hagen, Jamestown, Julie Kvitne, Grand Forks, and Tammy Paasch, Salt Lake City; one brother, Jerry Paasch, Seattle; and her grandparents, Alpha and George Walker, Wimbledon.

Roy Siems
TRENT, S.D. -- Roy L. Siems, 84, Trent, died June 3, 1997, in a Flandreau, S.D. hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in Trent Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Roger, San Diego, Calif., Terry, Leavenworth, Kan., and Richard, Colman; three daughters, Linda Johnson, Mesa, Ariz., Barbara Schmidt, Dell Rapids, S.D., and Dorothy Siems, Greenville, N.C.; two brothers, Fred, Bismarck, N.D., and Kenny, Wyoming; and three sisters, Pat Siems, Irene Johnston and Eunice Paul, all of Bismarck.

Ralph Schmidt
DICKINSON -- Ralph C. Schmidt, 65, Dickinson, died June 3, 1997, in Dickinson. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Killdeer, with burial in Killdeer Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; seven sons, Curt, Worden, Mont., Ron, Billings, Mont., Jeff, Manning, Ken and Marc, both of Killdeer, and Randy and Jason, both of Dickinson; two daughters, Cheryl Quamme, Mandan, and Deanne Zabolotny, Bismarck; his parents, Carl and Rose Schmidt, Dickinson; two brothers, Wilbert, Butte, Mont., and Duane, Oakfield, Wis.; and two sisters, Jeanne Kowis, New Berlin, Wis., and Joanne Stroh, Eden, Wis. Ruth Stewart
BOWDON -- Services for Ruth Stewart, 94, Bowdon, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peterson Family Cemetery, Bowdon. She died Jan. 8, 1997, in the Carrington nursing home.

She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Lindelien, Bowdon, Kathryn Lorenz, Chesterton, Ind., and Georgia Proper, Phoenix; one son, Charles, Chesteron; and two sisters, Eleanor Delger, Bowdon, and Elsie Heintz, Phoenix. (Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden)
