He is survived by two sons, Duane, Morrison, Colo., and Norman, Rockwell, Iowa; three daughters, June Aldrich, Seattle, Sandy Benedict, Linton, and Sheryl Gilliam, Bismarck; and three sisters, Theo Bay, Dillon, Mont., Clover Buddeau, Portland, Ore., and Alice Raines, Livingston, Mont. Otto Weisz
Otto Reinhold Weisz, 86, Roseburg, Ore., died March 16, 1999, in his home. Services were held March 20 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Roseburg, with burial in Civil Bend Cemetery, Winston, Ore.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; one son, Rudi, Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Diana Harland, Umpqua, Ore., and Cindy Harris, Junction City, Ore.; one brother, Roland, North Dakota; and two sisters, Leontina Bender and LaVinia Brewster, both of North Dakota.

Jeanne Winter
Jeanne M. Winter, Bismarck, died March 30, 1999, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Jeanne M. Larsen was born June 19 in Bismarck, the daughter of C.C. and Marie (Kollmann) Larsen. She was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School. Jeanne married G. Harold Johnson in September 1950, in Bismarck. Jeanne raised three sons, who she was very proud of. She returned to Bismarck in 1974 and met Thomas Winter, the man of her dreams. Jeanne and Thomas were married in Bismarck in 1977. They enjoyed traveling extensively around the United States. Thomas died May 1, 1995.

She enjoyed the finer things in life. She never stopped caring about family and friends.

Jeanne is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeremy and Kim Johnson, Land O Lakes, Fla., Joel Johnson, Aiken, S.C., and Jeffrey and Marlyn Johnson, Rapid City, S.D.; one stepdaughter, Mary Kathleen Nelson, Alexandria, Minn.; one stepdaughter-in-law, Dianne R. Winter, Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Roger Harris, Texas, and Patricia and Kermit Lidstrom, Bismarck, Mary Ann Keller, Grand Forks; and one brother and sister-in-law, James and June Larsen, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; and one brother, Paul.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Vincent's Care Center, 1021 N. 26th St., Bismarck, N.D. 58501.

John Ziegler
DEVILS LAKE -- John F. Ziegler Jr., 65, rural Devils Lake, died March 30, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Devils Lake, with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Wald officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by the Army National Guard and the Neathery-Simensen Post 756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, where a rosary and scripture service will begin at 7 p.m. Monday.

John F. Ziegler was born Oct. 25, 1933, at Harvey, the son of John and Rosina (Sattler) Ziegler. The family lived in the Selz and Harvey areas where he attended school. They moved into Harvey in 1947, and John was employed by Wurn Motor Co. and G.N. Nelson Co. In January of 1951 he was activated with the North Dakota National Guard during the Korean War and stationed at Camp Rucker, Ala. He served overseas from August 1951 to August 1952. He was discharged at Camp McCoy, Wis., and returned to Harvey. John was united in marriage to Verdyne Jensen, Oct. 27, 1952, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Harvey. They lived at Harvey where he was employed by Auto Services Co. and Blanding Hardware. In 1954, John went to work for the North Dakota National Guard at Camp Grafton, Devils Lake, as a technician and they established their home at Lakewood Park, rural Devils Lake. He was a heavy mobile equipment inspector foreman when he retired from Civil Service in December 1989.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Devils Lake, American Legion, North Dakota National Guard Officers Association, a life member of the VFW Post 756, where he held all offices. He was a member of the VFW Color Guard, and was the assistant commander for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Verdyne; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jon and Jody, Lakeland Shores, Minn., and Jay and his special friend, Sue, Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kara and Tom Heustis, Bismarck, and Vee Anne Erickstad, Starkweather; seven grandchildren, Jason Heustis, Fort Collins, Colo., Karl Heustis, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Weston Heustis, Bismarck, Mandy Ziegler, Cando, and Doug, Brad and Lisa Erickstad, all of Starkweather; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marian and John Clark, Silver City, S.D., Ann and Charles Albedyll, Kent, Wash., and Kathy Lund, Antioch, Ind.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Addie, Federal Way, Wash., Duane and Donna, Mattawn, Wash., and Mark and Patty, Bonney Lake, Wash.; his great-aunt, Sister Pauline Hoffart, Eau Claire, Wis.; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Duane and Esther Jensen, Harvey, and Dennis and Joan Jensen, Bismarck.

Allen Huelsman
TURTLE LAKE -- Allen J. Huelsman, 72, Turtle Lake, died March 30, 1999, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Turtle Lake, with the Rev. James Ryan officiating. Elaine Hanson will serve as organist, and Aileen Erdmann will be the soloist. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery, with military rites by Turtle Lake American Legion Post No. 133.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and will continue after 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Pallbearers will be all of Allen's sons and sons-in-law.

Allen Jerome Huelsman was born Aug. 6, 1926, at Foxhome, Minn., to Raymond and Winnie (Cudd) Huelsman. He grew up in Foxhome and attended high school at Breckenridge, Minn. On June 9, 1944, at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Newcomb in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was discharged on June 7, 1946, and then attended North Dakota State College of Science at Wahpeton, where he received a degree in auto mechanics. He married Elizabeth Hallan, May 16, 1949, at Maine, Minn. They lived at Foxhome, Mohall, Cando, and since 1975, have lived at Turtle Lake. Allen retired in 1988 after serving 36 years as a union plumber and pipefitter. He was a retired member of the Local 627. He was a member of Turtle Lake American Legion, Wahpeton Knights of Columbus and Devils Lake Elks Lodge. He enjoyed hobbies of hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; seven sons and four daughters-in-law, Richard and Char, Bismarck, Raymond and Bonnie, San Diego, Calif., Duane, Turtle Lake, Roger, Bismarck, David and Laurie, Wildrose, Jerome and Linda, Turtle Lake, and John, Davenport, Iowa; six daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Dale Harkleroad, West Farmington, Ohio, Mary and Marvin Anseth, Fairfax, Va., Teresa and Dan Halley, Bottineau, Susan and Bill David, Cando, Kathryn and David Hanson, and Joan and Paul Walcker, all of Turtle Lake; 28 grandchildren, Mechelle, John, Teri and Nikki Huelsman; Eric, Rick and Megan Harkleroad; Melanie Morrow and Michelle Anseth; Nolan and Karin Huelsman; Brett and Ashley Huelsman; Garlen and Gabe Halley; Matthew and Alaina Davis; Joseph, Joshua, Nicole, Mindy and Tony Huelsman; Michael, Jamie and Jessica Huelsman; Melissa and Jennifer Hanson; and Derran Walcker; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Morrow, Jonas Huelsman and Jeremy Huelsman; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Lone and Val, Arco, Idaho, Arlo and Doris, and Henry and Emma, all of Foxhome, and Raymond and Barb, Sellersburg, Ind.; and two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Charlette and Rosco Correll, Omaha, Neb., Maryann Althoff, Foxhome, and Richard Haarstad, Fergus Falls, Minn.

Jeanne Winter
Jeanne M. Winter, Bismarck, died March 30, 1999, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 10-30 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Berthold Miller
TUTTLE -- Berthold J. Miller, 77, Tuttle, died April 1, 1999, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Darrel Lindensmith and Dennis Altrogge officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bert J. Miller was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Kidder County, 5[1/2] miles southwest of Tuttle on his family's farm to Martin J. and Magdelena (Wagner) Miller. He was raised and educated in Tuttle, graduating from high school in 1939. He farmed with his family until taking it over in 1948.

Bert married Alvina Hetletvedt on May 29, 1953, at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle. He continued farming until he entered the Wishek Nursing Home due to failing health caused by Alzheimer's.

Bert belonged to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hurdsfield. He enjoyed bowling and loved reading his Bible. He loved farming, and he really cared about his cattle.

If he was able, Bert would pass this message along -- love everybody. If everyone loved God, they'd love one another and problems would fade from the world. He loved to chat and invited people in for coffee and lunch.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Rodney and Linda, New Market, Md., Jeffrey and Rita, Grand Forks, Marlyn and Sharrell, Modesto, Calif., and Aaron, St. Paul, Minn.; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Beverly and Bill Gadberry, Eudora, Kan., DiAnn and Mark Phelps, Houston, Texas, Valerie Miller, Houston, Rhonda and Mike Braun, Wing, and Lucinda and Jeffrey Shoberg, St. Cloud, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Rose, Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Hilda Miller, Knoxville, and Ruth and Ed Kahler, Missoula, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Lori; four brothers, Albert, Elmer, John and Otto; four sisters, Martha, Helen, Bertha and Lydia; and one baby sister, Madalena.

Bert was a very loving Father and Friend. He will be missed by all.

The Rev. Richard Wilhelmi
Father Richard (Gerald) Wilhelmi, OSB, 69, died suddenly April 1, 1999. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Assumption Abbey, Richardton. Burial will be in Abbey Cemetery.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Assumption Abbey.

Gerald Wilhelmi was born in Loma, N.D., in Cavalier County, on Feb. 3, 1930, the youngest of the nine children of Joseph and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Wilhelmi. He grew up in the Starkweather area. He attended Assumption Abbey High School and Junior College from 1943-1949, when he entered the monastic community.

He professed monastic vows on July 11, 1950 and was given the name of Richard. He was ordained a priest at the Cathedral in Bismarck by Bishop Lambert Hoch on May 19, 1955. In recent years he celebrated Mass regularly at Corpus Christi Parish and Ascension Parish in Bismarck.

Father Richard had a long career in teaching -- his lifelong passion -- which lasted until his death. Along the way, he received a B.A. from St. Procopius College (1952), an M.A. in English from Marquette University (1963), and an M.A. in drama from Catholic University (1973). He taught first in the abbey's schools and served as the last president of Assumption College (1966-1971). From 1978 to 1999, he was professor of English, Drama and Communications at the University of Mary.

He exemplified the highest standards of the teaching profession. Many former students have claimed he was the best instructor they ever had. He was also celebrated for his skill at staging plays and dramas over many years.

Besides his monastic family, Father Richard is survived by two brothers, Leo, Starkweather, and Ruby, Devils Lake; and two sisters, Mary Dietz, Chicago, and Leona Berg, Mandan. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Harold Mellen Jr.
Harold James "Jim" Mellen Jr., 64, Lake Elmo, Minn., formerly of Bismarck and Detroit, died April 2, 1999, at Lake Elmo. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Oakdale, Minn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He retired as CEO of MDU Resources Group Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Joan McIsaac Mellen; his children, Harold J. III, Susanne, Jonathan and Patrick; his brothers, Thomas, Buffalo, N.Y.; and his sister, Carol Adelmann, Dearborn Heights, Mich.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; and his parents. (Wulff-Woodlane Mortuary, Woodbury, Minn.)

Rose Ganser
CLEVELAND -- Rose Ganser, 90, Cleveland, died April 1, 1999, in a Jamestown care center. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Windsor. Burial will be in St. Pauline's Cemetery, Windsor.

She is survived by four daughters, Rita Jawaski, Dickey, Rosalie Andres, Medina, Carol Mack, Kensal, and Edith Stoppleworth, Medina; two sons, Ronald, Cleveland, and Vernon, Colstrip, Mont.; and five sisters, Mary Kramer, Loveland, Colo., Helen Rosenberry, Fargo, Eleanor Schwalk, and Sister Mary Camille, both of Valley City. Vivian Retterath
VALLEY CITY -- Vivian Retterath, 98, Valley City, died April 1, 1999, in a Valley City care center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Valley City. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.

She is survived by four sons, Morris, Mt. Vernon, Wash., Quentin, Bismarck, Wesley, Valley City, and Gordon, Doyle, Calif.; one daughter, Yvonne Doricott, Sacramento, Calif.; and one sister, Donnabelle Blaufauss, Herlong, Calif. (Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City)
