Morris Stromme
WILLISTON -- Morris Stromme, 75, Williston, died Sept. 2, 1998, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, rural Williston, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; two sons, LeRoy, Anchorage, Alaska, and Paul, Zahl; one daughter, Mavis Stangeland, Onalaska, Wis.; and one sister, Jordis Johnson, Williston. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Clifford Wahl
Clifford G. Wahl, 91, 1111 N. First St., died Sept. 3, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck, with military rites provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Clifford Gordon Wahl was born Nov. 26, 1906, in Washburn, the son of August H. and Marie Wahl. He grew up and attended school in Washburn, graduating from Washburn High School. On May 29, 1936, he married Pauline Rishworth in Bismarck. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. Cliff worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service until his retirement. He then entered the real estate business for a number of years.

He was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church, a life member of NARFE and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline; one sister and brother-in-law, Essie and Walt Langemo, Aurora, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Inez Rishworth, Des Moines, Peggy Rishworth, Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Grace Wahl, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorraine `Mac' McCulley
Lorraine ``Mac" McCulley, 66, 405 Ninth Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Sept. 4, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Tuesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Visitation begins Monday at Weigel Funeral Home from noon to 9 p.m. A Moose ritual will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lorraine McCulley was born March 8, 1932, in LaHarpe, Kan. He was the son of Ralph and Mattie (Sells) McCulley. As a child the family moved to Iola, Kan., where he grew up and graduated from high school. Mac enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He served at Chambley Air Base, France, with the 416th Fighter Bomber Squad; 21st Fighter Bomber Wing from September 1954 until May 1956. He married Lois Lindquist on Dec. 23, 1952, in Chanute, Kan. They moved to Mandan in 1956, where he worked at the Amoco Oil Refinery for 33 years until his retirement in 1989. Mac owned and operated Mac's Radio and T.V. Repair for many years. He also worked with Eckroth Music repairing organs, pianos and other musical and band electronics.

He was a member of American Legion, Mandan Moose Lodge and supporter of Mandan sports.

Mac is survived by his wife, Lois, Mandan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Debbie, Mandan, Daryl and Linda, Williams, Ariz., and Tim and Dawn, Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Vicky McCulley, Grand Forks; nine grandchildren, Andrew and Tamar Rilometo, Grand Forks, Diana, Texas, Christy, Flagstaff, Ariz., Connie and Timothy, both of Williams, John, Mattie and Shelby, all of Mandan; one brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Honey McCulley, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Melvin Hayes, Palm City, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth McCulley, Glassboro, N.J., and Norma McCulley, Iola, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Leslie; two brothers, Louis and Bill; and one grandson, James Rilometo. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Craig Schofield
Craig O. Schofield, 39, formerly of Bismarck, died Aug. 25, 1998, in Nevada. Memorial services were held on Aug. 31, 1998, at Palm Mortuary -- Jones.

Craig was born June 16, 1959, in Philadelphia, Pa., and was a casino supervisor and a year resident of Las Vegas. He is formerly of Bismarck and Atlantic City, N.J.

He is survived by his mother, Lenore Fisher, and his stepfather, Donald Fisher, both of Land O'Lakes, Fla.; his sister, Cindy, Philadelphia, his brother, Glenn, Atascadero, Calif.; his companion, Beth Hayes and a stepdaughter, Erin Hayes, both of Horsham, Pa.; and his father, Creighton, San Luis Obispo, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Wilfred Vetsch
LINTON -- Wilfred Vetsch, 71, Linton, died Sept. 3, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; five daughters, Susan Haag, New Salem, Sandra Nitteberg, Lake Norden, S.D., Sheila Skubal, Denver, Colo., Gwen Aman, Bismarck, and Tina Seifert, Denver; one brother, Ed, Linton, and four sisters, Betty Fink, Port Washington, Wis., Bernadine Brendel and Marie Roehrich, both of Bismarck, and Irene Speed, Seattle, Wash. Dale Braunagel
Dale Braunagel, 37, Gilbert, Ariz., and formerly of Harvey, died Sept. 4, 1998, in a Dickinson residence of natural causes. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Harvey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Edward and Frances Braunagel, Harvey; one brother, Darwin, Fargo; and two sisters, ReNae Smith, Bismarck, and Jerelynn Zeien, Dickinson. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Walter Peterson
Walter F. Peterson, 95, Baptist Home, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Baptist Home Chapel, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Leslie `Les' Holwegner
Leslie ``Les" Holwegner, 74, 1239 S. Washington St., died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck.

Anna Vaule
DICKINSON -- Anna Vaule, 77, Dickinson, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Dickinson hospital. Arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Arnold Nestegard
LEEDS -- Arnold S. Nestegard, 90, Leeds, died Sept. 5, 1998, in the Rugby hospital. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds.

Eva Charlesworth
Eva Charlesworth, 76, Bismarck, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck.

Leslie Holwegner
Leslie "Les" P. Holwegner, 74, Bismarck, died Sept. 5, 1998, at his cabin on Lake Isabel, one of his favorite places. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Joel Scherer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, with military rites provided by V.F.W. Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be from noon-7 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, both at Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck.

Les was born on July 18, 1924, in Bismarck, the son of Jacob and Mabel (Tice) Holwegner. He grew up and attended school in Bismarck. On July 24, 1947, he married Eileen Jean Hines of Bismarck, at Trinity Lutheran Church. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp. and was honorably discharged in 1948. Les began working at McQuade Distributing in 1948, where he worked for 13 years. He then worked with Aberdeen Beverage until 1963, at which time he went to work for Hedahl's Automotive of Bismarck, until his retirement in 1988. He kept busy in his retirement driving cars for Hertz and Enterprise.

He enjoyed playing golf, caring for his lake cabin, attending Minnesota Vikings football games, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known for his humor and quick wit, always having a joke to tell.

Les was very proud of his three sons and their families, and was always there with a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and will live in our hearts forever.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Eileen; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Eileen, Gene and Becky, and Dean and Michelle, all of Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Kirsten and her husband, Erling Kurtti, LaCrosse, Wis., Melissa and her husband, Shannon Gartner, Bismarck, Kara, Bethany, Dean "D.J.", Kiel and Jennifer, all of Bismarck; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Elizabeth; three brothers, Al and Clifford, both of Bismarck, and Lawrence, Rapid City, S.D.; two sisters, Ruth and Isabel, both of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Holwegner, and his mother, Mabel Holwegner Schubert.

Eva Charlesworth
Eva Barbara Charlesworth, 76, 420 East Main Avenue, Bismarck, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Eva Becker was born on April 20, 1922, in Hannover, the daughter of Conrad and Beata (Barnhardt) Becker. She attended St. Mary's Grade School through the 8th grade. Eva married Fay Charlesworth on June 13, 1942, in Tacoma, Wash. Eva worked at home as a mother and wife and in later years, she worked at the MF Motel, St. Alexius Laundry, Woolworths and also cleaned houses.

Eva enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, knitting and cooking for a lot of people, and especially having family and friend get-togethers.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Tilman Haadem, Tappen, and Linda and Jim Faber, Bismarck; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Forrest, Brighton, Colo., Clinton and Kitty, Glendive, Mont., and Warren, Bismarck; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Florentine and Herb Bohlman, New England, and MaryJean and Don Bauer, Bismarck; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Mike and Bev Becker, Billings, Mont., Jack Becker, Sidney, Mont., and George and Irene Becker, Renton, Wash.; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one infant son, Daniel; one sister, Minnie Renner; and one grandson, Trent. (Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck)

Walter Peterson
Walter F. Peterson, 95, Baptist Home, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Baptist Home Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today, at Boelter Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to services at the Baptist Home.

Walter was born February 23, 1903, at Underwood, the son of Otto and Minnie (Musselman) Peterson. He was raised and educated in the Underwood and Baldwin area. After school, Walter farmed in the Baldwin area before eventually moving to Bismarck, where he was employed as a guard at the North Dakota State Penitentiary.

He married Janet Lewis on Dec. 3, 1951, at Tuttle. Together they lived at 616 N. 17. Street in Bismarck for over 40 years. In 1988, they moved to the Kensington and lived there until moving to the nursing home in 1990. Janet died in 1992.

Walter is survived by one sister, Eva Smith, Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and three sisters. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Carl Bingert
HEBRON -- Carl J. Bingert Jr., 80, Hebron, died Sept. 5, 1998, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Hebron, with the Rev. Francis dos Remedios officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with full military rites provided by Henry Biffert Post No. 100 American Legion.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. MDT Tuesday, at the church and is ongoing until service time. A parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. MDT at the church.

Carl J. Bingert Jr. was born on Jan. 27, 1918, to Carl J. and Therisa (Mueller) Bingert Sr. Carl was raised and educated in Hebron. He worked for Lapp's Store until he moved out west to seek other employment. While out west, he entered the U.S. Army on March 29, 1941. He served in the Asiatic Pacific. Following his discharge, he returned to Hebron. He married Regina Gauer on May 1, 1946, at Glen Ullin. Carl started Bingert Construction Co. and a few buildings to his credit are the firehall in Hebron, St. Ann's Church, the bank building, and the Farmers Union camp at Lake Tschida. He "sort of" retired in the middle 1980s. In retirement, Carl enjoyed the special times with his family at their cabin, playing cards, and tinkering in his wood shop.

He was a U.S. Army Sergeant from March 29, 1941, until Aug. 26, 1945. He was a member of St. Ann's Church, American Legion, Elks and a past Hebron Fireman.

He is survived by his wife, Regina; one daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Greg Kraiter, Minot; two sons, Dan, Wichita, Kan., and Charles and Jean, Mandan; five grandchildren, Karla and Dale Seibel, Kent Kraiter, Kyle, Matthew and Danielle Bingert; and one great-granddaughter, Allison Seibel; two brothers, Francis, Hebron, and Joe, Lakewood, Colo.; and one sister, Mary Pieruccetti, Long Island, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Steve, Nick and Bobby. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Peter Coffey
GARRISON -- Peter Paul Coffey, Sr., 88, Garrison, died Sept. 4, 1998, in Garrison. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Parshall Veteran's Memorial Hall. Burial will be in Packineau Dam Cemetery, south of his home.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four sons, Pete Coffey Jr., Parshall, Wallace Coffey, Lawton, Okla., Eugene White Jr., White Shield, and Jim Jandreau, Sturgis, S.D.; 10 daughters, Inez Ward, Avis Mayer and Jean Baker, all of New Town, Francis Maffit, Fort Worth, Texas, Glenda Baker Embry, Parshall, Melissa Boepple, Dickinson, Judith Coffey, White Shield, Mary Coffey, Jeanette Coffey and Susan Bolkan, all of Parshall; and three brothers, Elmer White Sr., St. Michaels, Gordon Tootoosis, Viscount, Sask., Canada, and Russell Standing Rock, Rocky Boy, Mont. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)

Mary Sitter
RICHARDTON -- Mary Sitter, 75, Richardton, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. MDT tonight at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and a vigil serice will be said at 8 p.m. MDT Tuesday at the church. Further arrangements are pending.

John Willie
PARSHALL -- John Willie, 85, Parshall, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Parshall nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Makoti. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Elinor Petermann
Elinor Petermann, 83, Wibaux, Mont., died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Glendive, Mont., hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wibaux. Further arrangements are pending with Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Wibaux.

Michael Tschida
Michael A. Tschida, 52, 5725 Highway 1806, Mandan, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Lydia Becker
BEULAH -- Lydia Becker, 85, Beulah, died Sept. 5, 1998, in the Beulah care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at Beulah Congregational Church. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.
