GRENORA -- Mildred L. Sneva, 90, Williston, died Aug. 23, 1997, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf's Lutheran Church, Grenora. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.

Paul Carmody
Paul L. Carmody, 87, Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Aug. 23, 1997, in the Prairie du Chien hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien, with burial in St. Lawrence O'Tolle Cemetery, Mt. Hope, Wis.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Walker, Mandan. (Garrity Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien)

Lena Hecker
DICKINSON -- Lena Hecker, 103, Dickinson, died Aug. 23, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Tinka Nelson
TURTLE LAKE -- Tinka L. Nelson, 90, Turtle Lake, died Aug. 22, 1997, in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Turtle Lake, with the Rev. David Berg officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Tinka Lillian Hallan was born June 29, 1907, near Turtle Lake, to Hans and Thora (Landsem) Hallan. She grew up on her parents homestead four miles north of Turtle Lake, where she attended rural school and high school in Turtle Lake. As a young woman she worked at the Turtle Lake Drug Store. She married Edward O. Nelson, Oct. 28, 1944, at Turtle Lake. They made their home in Bismarck. He died March 30, 1976. She then made her home in Turtle Lake until becoming a resident of Prairieview Nursing Home at Underwood on Aug. 14, 1995. She loved to travel and sew, and enjoyed visiting with her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one sister, Harda Brevig, Turtle Lake; one sister-in-law, Lillian Hallan, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Clemens Roehrich
STRASBURG -- Clemens S. Roehrich, 85, Strasburg, died Aug. 23, 1997, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Clemens was born Aug. 4, 1912, on a farm southeast of Strasburg, the son of Xavior and Regina (Schneider) Roehrich. He attended rural school. He married Regina Bernhardt, Nov. 22, 1937, at Strasburg. They farmed just east of Strasburg until moving into Strasburg in 1973. Aside from farming, he enjoyed fishing and playing the accordian. He played for many barn dances and parties in the community.

He is survived by his wife, Regina; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Luann, Strasburg; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Dave Saso, San Jose, Calif., Vi and Wally Kramer, Carol and Doug Buckman, and Shelly and Pete Magelky, all of Bismarck, Pat and George Slaughter, and Loretta and Ben Feist, all of Minneapolis, Jane and Gene Behrens, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; 20 grandchildren; one brother, Tony, Aberdeen, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Delores; two sisters; and one brother.

Ruby Murray
Ruby Murray, 80, McClusky, died Aug. 23, 1997, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClusky Baptist Church, with burial in McClusky Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Ruby Broeckel was born Jan. 21, 1917, at Broadus, Mont., to John and Elvina (Jaton) Broeckel. She grew up and attended rural school near their farm home in the McClusky area. She married Ervin Murray, Nov. 7, 1936, in McClusky. They farmed in the McClusky area. He died July 23, 1964. She then moved into McClusky in 1967. She worked at Sheridan Memorial Home there for several years.

She was a member of McClusky Baptist Church. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, canning and making candles.

She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Harley and Linda, McClusky, Gerald and Florence, Steele, Richard and Caroline, Garden City, Kan., Virgle and Rhonda, Mandan, and Merlyne, Turtle Lake; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Sharon and Carmen Anderson, Turtle Lake, Wanda and Allen Sayler, Woodbridge, Va., Cynthia and Gary Thiel, Washburn, Jennifer Medrud, Faith, S.D., and Sylvia and Larry Schell, McClusky; 32 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Isabell Helm and Ella Neff, both of McClusky, Lemoyne Erickson, Rochester, Minn., Doris Lauer, Bismarck, and Shirley Bittner, Aberdeen, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sons, Lauren, Orrin, Bernard and Junior; five brothers; and three sisters.

Ben Lawyer
BELFIELD -- John "Ben" Lawyer, 21, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Belfield, died in a truck accident, Aug. 21, 1997, in Orlando. He had been working as a truck driver for an Orlando lumber company at the time of his death. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Belfield Lutheran Church, with burial in Belfield Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, where a time of sharing will begin at 8 tonight.

Ben was born March 18, 1976, in Bismarck. He moved to Belfield with his family in 1979. Ben graduated from Belfield High School in 1994. He attended Moorhead State University for one year, majoring in technical theater arts. While at Belfield High School, he received numerous awards, including best actor, best all-around drama person, outstanding choral member and John Philip Sousa's Band Award. Ben also lettered in basketball and track. During the summers, he worked at the Medora Musical as technical assistant, eventually becoming technical supervisor. He left MSU to join the technical staff of Troupe America to tour the eastern seaboard. He later worked for Mark O'Brien Productions of Orlando and toured with the show in Germany. His duties included designing illusion sets, keeping leopards, stage directing and performing as a juggler. More recently, Ben rejoined Troupe America, traveling the United States with Jamie Farr's show, the "Odd Couple." Ben will be remembered for his beautiful free spirit, and for being a friend to all, young and old. His goal for the future was to own his own production company.

He is survived by his parents, Ron and Laurie Baranko, Belfield; three brothers, Mike Lawyer, Fargo, and Joe and Chris Baranko, both of Belfield; his grandparents, Mike and his wife, Betty, Baranko, Fairfield, his intended fiance, Leigh Sheridan, Columbia, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Alice Meisner, and Wes and Helen Lawyer.

Upon hearing of Ben's death, a close friend said, "He wanted to see everything, do everything, and go everywhere, and now he is."

In lieu of flowers, a theater arts scholarship fund has been established in Ben's name, to be awarded to Belfield High School students planning to study theater. Memorials may be sent to First National Bank, Belfield, 201 N. Main St., Belfield, 58622.

Lillian Starkey
NAPOLEON -- Lillian L. Starkey, 85, Napoleon, died Aug. 20, 1997, in her home. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with burial in Napoleon Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Jon and Jerry. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon)

Thomas Krebs
REGENT -- Thomas Krebs, 77, Regent, died Aug. 21, 1997, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Lefor, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; 11 daughters, Cheryl Ridl, Dickinson, Cleora Roth, Dickinson, Lucinda Zentner, Bismarck, Petrina Haag, Dickinson, Geralyn Krebs, Okanogan, Wash., Berneta Ridl, South Heart, Rita Muscha, Bakersfield, Calif., Renelda Stagl, Sidney, Mont., Clarice Twogood, Dickinson, Jolyn Kostelecky, Bismarck, Jean Bartels, Lemmon, S.D.; two sons, Thomas, Dickinson, and Eric, Lambert, Mont.; two sisters, Sophie Banyai, Minnesota, and Susanna Carpineta, Roseville, Calif.; and three brothers, Mathias, Regent, Nicholaus, Lemmon, and Henry, Tacoma, Wash. Ruby Murray
MCCLUSKY -- Ruby Murray, 80, McClusky, died Aug. 23, 1997, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClusky Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Christina Hausauer
BEULAH -- Christina Hausauer, 96, Beulah, died Aug. 23, 1997, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Eleanor Dinyer
Eleanor Dinyer, 89, 305 Eighth St. N.W., Mandan, died Aug. 22, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, followed by a parish vigil at 7.

Eleanor Hoff was born April 7, 1908, in Nazareth, Texas. She was the daughter of Lee and Katherine (Gress) Hoff. Eleanor was raised and educated at Richardton and Bismarck, graduating from St. Mary's High School. She continued her education at St. Alexius School of Nursing, graduating in 1929. On July 20, 1931, she married George F. Dinyer in Texas. She and her husband purchased Homan Drug in Mandan which became Central Drug Store, and after 43 years of owning the drug store she started Judy's Hallmark in Mandan. She also owned Ben Franklin in Mandan.

She was a charter member of Apple Creek Country Club, a member of Revelers Dance Group, University of Mary President's Club, and Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. George R. and Mary, Bismarck; one daughter, Judith Lee Dinyer, Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Mary Catherine Russell, Tracey Lee Carrier, Judith Jane Erickson, Barbra Anne Russell, Hoy Sylvester Russell II, Natalya Sarah Russell, Laura Stephanie Dinyer and Garrett George Dinyer; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Hoff, Richardton, and Raymond Hoff, Missoula, Mont.; one sister, Regina Pfeifer, Mandan; and special friends, Don Borud and Linda Gangl.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, who died March 28, 1974; one daughter, Mary Catherine; four brothers; and two sisters.

The family prefers memorials to University of Mary Nursing School.

Bethel Ekstrom
GARRISON -- Bethel Marie Ekstrom, 69, Minot, formerly of Garrison, died Aug. 21, 1997, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Church of Christ, Garrison, with the Rev. Beth Hector officiating. Joann Heinzen will serve as organist, and Lori Hulse as soloist. Burial will be in Garrison Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Gordy Ekstrom, Joshua Grimsley, Rick Selbey, Timothy Wagner, Joey Jennings, Joey Fredricks and Noah Ekstrom.

Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

She was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Granville, a daughter of Herbert and Mary Belle Livingston. She was raised and educated in the Bantry and Towner areas. On March 17, 1947, she married Ralph Ekstrom in Wibaux, Mont. After their marriage, they lived in Washburn, Riverdale, Underwood and Garrison. Ralph died in January 1983. Bethel worked at the Garrison Nursing Center for 15 years, retiring in April 1997, and moving to Minot.

She was a member of the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by six sons and five daughters-in-law, Ronald and Veronica, Stanton, Gary and Salli, Virginia Beach, Va., Herbert and Shelli, Minot, Dennis and Audrey, Garrison, Tom and his special friend, Lori Hulse, Minot, and Jeffrey and Susan, Garrison; five daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Gerald Grimsley, Minot, Ann and Francis Wagner, Washburn, Merna and Tom Delzer, Douglas, Judy and Bill Jennings, Bismarck, and Vicki and Rodger Fredrick, Bismarck; 37 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and John Freidig, Center; and one brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Laurel Livingston, Staples, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David; and one grandson, Michael Wagner.

Ben Lawyer
DICKINSON -- Ben Lawyer, 21, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Belfield, died Aug. 21, 1997, in a truck accident in Orlando. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Belfield Lutheran Church. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Edward Kemmet
WISHEK -- Edward Kemmet, 88, Wishek, died Aug. 21, 1997, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lea; one son, Oscar, Wishek; and two daughters, Mavis Dockter, Lodi, Calif., and Gladys Hauck, Fargo. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Ken Audette
BEULAH -- Ken Audette, 50, Beulah, died of cancer, Aug. 22, 1997, in his home. Private services will be held.

He is survived by one son, Joseph, Wyoming, Minn.; one daughter, Tara, Sorrento, Fla.; his mother, Louise, Crookston, Minn.; one brother, Noel, Laramie, Wyo.; and two sisters, Mary Lou Amiot and Rita Amiot, both of Crookston. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

KILLDEER -- Archie McAdoo, 88, Killdeer, died Aug. 20, 1997, in the Killdeer nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Monday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with burial at 3 p.m. Monday in Medora Cemetery.

He is survived by two brothers, Howard, Bermuda, and Herbert, Halliday; and five sisters, Alice Cave, Norma Sullivan, Ellen Sandsaver and Violet Woodbury, all of Marysville, Wash., and Susie Thomas, Salem, Ore.

Bethel Ekstrom
GARRISON -- Bethel Marie Ekstrom, 69, Minot, formerly of Garrison, died Aug. 21, 1997, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Church of Christ, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

PLAZA -- Russell A. Sailor Sr., 77, Plaza, died Aug. 21, 1997, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Plaza, with burial in East Plaza Cemetery.
