Virgil Jahraus
WILTON -- Virgil Jahraus, 58, Wilton, died Aug. 21, 1997, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hebron, with burial in Congregational Cemetery, Hebron.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Virgil was born Nov. 23, 1938, at Glen Ullin, to Ruben and Emma (Roth) Jahraus. He was raised and educated in the Glen Ullin and Hebron areas. He worked on the family farm and for area farmers. He married Diane Schwartz in 1965. They farmed near Hebron. Diane died in 1969. In 1970 he married Beverly Konkler of Hebron. They moved to Mandan where he worked for Melroe until moving to Minnesota in 1978. He worked construction in Minnesota until becoming ill in 1983. He then moved to Redwood Village in Wilton.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hebron.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Shawn and Yvonne, Eagle Bend, Minn., and Gary, Mandan; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Stewart Blank, Carlos, Minn.; three grandchildren, Alicia, Adelle and Hunter Jahraus; three stepchildren, Wendy Kurle, Roxanne Vollan and David Vollan; and three step-grandchildren, Lindsey Kurle, Greg Vollan and Zachary Vollan; three brothers, Floyd, Glen Ullin, Fred, Mandan, and Ronald, Chandler, Ariz.; and three sisters, Betty Oster, Genevieve Kuntz and Grace Kuhn, all of Missoula, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers.

Anna Braun
SELFRIDGE -- Anna Braun, 66, Selfridge, died Aug. 21, 1997, in the Mandan nursing home. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Philomena's Catholic Church, Selfridge, with the Rev. Casimir Paluck officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at the church, where a Christian Mothers rosary will be said at 11 a.m. MDT.

Anna was born Aug. 6, 1931, at St. Anthony, the daughter of Peter H. and Rose (Leingang) Leingang. She was raised and educated in St. Anthony. On June 1, 1949, she married Bernard Braun in St. Anthony. After their marriage, they farmed in the Selfridge area, where they had made their living. Anna was a devoted, kind-hearted woman, who loved spending time with family, friends and neighbors. Above all, the caring for her family was first, especially on holidays and special occasions. Prayer at home was a must with her family, and praying the rosary was an important part of her prayer life. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, embroidering, and baking and cooking German dishes.

She was an active member of St. Philomena's Catholic Church.

She will be deeply missed by those who survive her, including her husband, Bernard; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles and LuAnn, Mohall, and Marvin, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Jim Gross, Litchville, and Bernie and Troy Kraft, Bismarck; seven grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Viola, and Leo and Gladys, all of Mandan; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Hildegard and Leo Landeis, Mandan, Leona and Ed Schmidt, Flasher, Lillian and Ray Miller, Bismarck, and Shirley and Harry Zander, Fargo; and a special friend, Isabel Volk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Wanda Jean.

Dale Locken
Dale D. Locken, 48, 228 S. Prairie Lane, Mandan, died Aug. 21, 1997, in his home of natural causes. Services will be held at 2 pm.. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dale was born Feb. 23, 1949, in Minot, the son of Orville and Jennie (Peabody) Locken. He was raised and educated at Plaza. After graduating from Plaza High School, he lived in California and Denver, and then moved back to the Bismarck and Mandan area. Dale owned and operated Kleen Sweep Janitorial Services and worked at other various jobs until his retirement in 1994.

His favorite hobbies were gardening, fishing, woodworking and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; one son, Jason E. Locken, residing with his mother, Bev, Bismarck; his father, Orville Locken, Plaza; his mother, Jennie Peabody, Phoenix; one sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Wayne Larkins, Sheridan, Wyo.; two brothers, Larry and Randy, Phoenix; two stepdaughters, Kathy and Mandy Burghart, Bismarck; three stepsons, Joe and Tammy Burghart, Bismarck, and Kelly and Jim Burghart, Mandan; nine step-grandchildren; four nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Locken; and one stepdaughter, Corrine Burghart.

Emeline Crotty
Emeline "Nickie" Crotty, 81, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, formerly of 615 N. Eighth St., died Aug. 22, 1997, in the nursing home after a long illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. George's Episcopal Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kendall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Nickie Nicola was born on a homestead near McClusky, on Jan. 3, 1916. She was the daughter of Salma and Stella (Joseph) Nicola. She studied in McClusky area schools, and later graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo. She married Pat Crotty, Aug. 20, 1947. She worked in hotel/motel management in the Bismarck area for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1984.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Pat; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Patrick S., Bismarck, Robert J. and Kristine, Golden, Colo., and Bradley W. and Nancy, Grand Forks; two granddaughters, Annette R. Crotty and Robyn E. Crotty, both of Golden; and several much loved nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and George M. Saba; and two brothers, Dr. Joseph S. Nicola and a brother who died in infancy.

The family prefers memorials to St. George's Episcopal Church, Bismarck.

Walter Shaw
Walter A. Shaw, 55, Bismarck and Devils Lake, died Aug. 20, 1997, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Hugo Blotsky officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.

Wally was born Aug. 27, 1941, in Mandan, the son of John A. and Christine (Classen) Shaw. He graduated from Mandan High School in 1959. After graduation, he entered military service, and served as a military policeman at the Redstone Arsonal from 1960-1961. After his discharge, he attended Mary College, and graduated in 1964 with a bachelor of science degree in social work. For the last 14 years, Wally had been employed with Ramsey County Social Services in Devils Lake.

Wally loved the Missouri River, and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of American Legion, Elks and North Dakota Association of Social Workers.

He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Shirley, Bismarck; one niece, Sandra Farrell, Mandan; and one nephew, Greg Shaw, Bismarck; and five grand nieces and grand nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to North Dakota Diabetes Association.

Mary Jane Moran
PARSHALL -- Mary Jane Moran, 73, Parshall, died Aug. 19, 1997, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Parshall. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Parshall.

She is survived by six sons, Joe, Longview, Wash., Robert, William, Clarence and Wayne, all of Parshall, and Frank, Minot; six daughters, Mary Taylor, Longview, Deloris Brunelle, Parshall, Diane Anderson and Vicki Sherven, both of Minot, Elaine Mathers, Puyallup, Wash., and Linda Giffey, Roseglen; and one brother, Warren DeCouteau, Kingston, Wash. Arvid Johnson
WILLISTON -- Arvid Johnson, 88, Williston, died Aug. 20, 1997, in a Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

May Lou Davidson
DICKINSON -- May Lou B. Davidson, 75, Dickinson, died Aug. 20, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Beach. Burial will be in Beach Lutheran Cemetery.

She is survived by five sons, Ronald and Kenneth, both of Beach, Donald, Billings, Mont., Bernard, Vancouver, Wash., and Robert, Jamestown; three daughters, Carolyn Anderson, Lake Park, Minn., Sandra Zaleski, Horace, and Debra Edgerton, Stow, Ohio; one brother, Alvin Trester, Wausau, Wis.; and three sisters, Marian Stedman, Billings, Mildred Wollan, Watford City, and Doris Dietz, Gresham, Ore. Rosina Voller
STRASBURG -- Rosina Voller, 66, Strasburg, died Aug. 20, 1997, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Max, Pierre, S.D., Marvin, Strasburg, and Mark, Zeeland; two daughters, Melinda Baumgartner, Strasburg, and Mary Mitzel, Herreid, S.D.; four brothers, Harry Heidrich, Linton, and Eugene, Magnus and Max Heidrich, all of Strasburg; and two sisters, Hermina Jochim, Strasburg, and Veronica Paul, Arzada, Colo. Donald Warren
Donald C. ``Yogi" Warren, 67, Leipsic, Ohio, died Aug. 20, 1997, in a Dayton, Ohio, hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic, with the Rev. J. Mac Geissinger officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home, and will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday.

Donald was born June 18, 1930 in Leipsic, Ohio, the son of Harley and Lulu (Winkle) Warren. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as an electrician for Darwin Hile in Findlay, Ohio. Donald married Mary Theresa Verhoff on Aug. 24, 1990.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist in West Leipsic and Gilboa American Legion.

He is survived by his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald L., Bismarck, Dennis and Jane, Pandora, Ohio, and David and Jennifer, Norwalk, Ohio; three stepsons and spouses, Steve and Cheryl Schnipke, Gary and Janet Schnipke and Ted and Donna Schnipke, all of Cloverdale, Ohio; four stepdaughters and spouses, Bonnie and Vic Turnwald, Ottoville, Ohio, Janet and Gary Niemeyer and Diane and Bob Siefker, all of Kalida, Ohio, and Teresa and Kevin Sorg, Concord, N.C.; one brother, Philip, Findlay, Ohio; six grandchildren; 25 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Joyce L. Ewing.

Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or the donors choice.

Ruth Neutman
Ruth Neutman, 76, Osnabrock, died Aug. 18, 1997, in the Langdon hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, and will continue until service time Saturday.

Archie McAdoo
KILLDEER -- Archie E. McAdoo, 88, Killdeer, died Aug. 20, 1997, in the Killdeer nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Monday, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending.

Frieda Hardmeyer
DICKINSON -- Frieda Hardmeyer, 91, Dickinson, formerly of Richardton, died Aug. 20, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Saturday, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Taylor. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Richardton.

She is survived by her husband, John, Richardton; one daughter, Bonnie Jesperson, Dickinson; and one brother, Fred Maas, Laurel, Mont. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Terry Diede
Terry Diede, 51, died Aug. 13, 1997, in Boise, Idaho, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at First Baptist Church, Bismarck.

Terry was born Oct. 1, 1945 in Jamestown, N.D., to Milton and Viola Diede. He attended school in Bismarck graduating from Bismarck High in 1964. After graduation, Terry entered the Army and served in Italy and Vietnam. After serving in the Army, he lived in different areas of the United States. He moved to Salmon, Idaho in 1984. Terry enjoyed working with animals and was training a wild mustang.

He is survived by Viola Diede; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Dwight Reuther and Mary and Armin Sayler; six nieces and one nephew, Val and Deanna Buchholz, Christy Stockert, Heather and Shelly Jansen and Rhonda and Jon Reuther; three grandnieces and one grandnephew; and a special friend, Tom Bender.

Mathilda Eslinger
ELGIN -- Mathilda Eslinger, 87, Elgin, died Aug. 20, 1997, in the Elgin nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Elgin.

She is survived by one son, Raymond, Granite Falls, Wash.; three daughters, Elaine Mutschelknaus, Carson, Lucille Eslinger, Jamestown, and Colleen Vetter, Elgin; one brother, Fred Schaible, Casselton; and one sister, Claire Lightbody, Pensacola, Fla. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

Harlan McKelvey
UNDERWOOD -- Harlan D. McKelvey, 63, Underwood, died Aug. 19, 1997, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Underwood. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Saturday at Augustana Lutheran Church, Underwood, with burial at Underwood Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son, Roger, Bismarck; three daughters, Jeanne Lange, Warwick, Adele McKelvey, Wahpeton, and Wendy McKelvey, Bowman; his mother, Adelia McKelvey, Warwick; two brothers, Dayton, Wilton, and Bud, Warwick; and one sister, Audrey Gjestvang, Washburn. NEW TOWN -- Karla Faye Starr, 46, New Town, died Aug. 18, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at New Town Civic Center, with burial at SnowBird Cemetery, rural New Town.

She is survived by one son, Curtis, New Town; three daughters, Lynn Yellowwolf, Bismarck, and Angelita Starr and Willie Starr, both of New Town; three sisters, Reva Roszelle, Tena WhiteHorn and Zelinda WhiteBody, all of New Town; and five brothers, Timothy, New Town, Jeff, Parshall, Charles, New Town, Robert, Littleton, Colo., and Milton, Parshall.
