Selma Neuberger
BEULAH -- Selma Neuberger, 79, Beulah, died Dec. 15, 1997, in a Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Toby Heller officiating. Burial will be in Beulah City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8 p.m. MST today, at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Neuberger, Clarence Rathjen, Rudy Rathjen, Elmer Neuberger, Rev. Gordon Neuberger and Dennis Neuberger.

Selma was born March 26, 1918, at Krem, a daughter of Karl Rathjen Jr. and Fredericka (Link) Rathjen. She was baptized on April 28, 1918, and confirmed April 9, 1933, both at St. John's Wittenburg Church, north of Zap. She worked at a store in Zap for Mr. Ellwein and then for Fred Reiner. Selma also worked as a home care giver. On Jan. 6, 1944, she married Reinhold Neuberger at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Zap. They lived in Zap until 1952, when they moved to Beulah. On June 30, 1994, she became a resident of Marian Manor, Glen Ullin.

She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah, and Friendly Homemakers Club, Beulah. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, Reinhold; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Elmer Schiermeister, Hazen; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Susan Neuberger, Beulah; five grandchildren, Paula Mantz, Gautier, Mo., Carrie Nelson, Mesa, Ariz., Julie, John and Jenny Neuberger, Beulah; three great-grandchildren, Ashlee and Brandi Mantz and Alexandria Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and five sisters. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Irene Zuger
Irene Kolb Zuger, 84, 2425 Hillview Ave., died Dec. 17, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark Bayert officiating. A private burial service will be held earlier at Fairview Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Irene Kolb Zuger and her twin brother, Bill, were born Dec. 1, 1913, at St. Paul, Minn., to Victor and Anna (Thorne) Kolb. She was raised and educated in St. Paul and graduated from Central High School. She attended the University of Minnesota. She married John A. Zuger, Sept. 17, 1937, in Oakland, Calif. John and Irene returned to Bismarck where her husband was an attorney for more than 30 years, and also vice president of Provident Life Insurance Co. Irene was a homemaker and Cub Scout leader, active in her church circle at First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon. She loved to travel and read.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sigrid Bucklin, and Ann and William Pearce; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Renee Zuger, and William Zuger and Annie Griffin, all of Bismarck; one niece, Linda Kolb, Cleveland, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Karen Bucklin Sanchez and Ron Sanchez, Anne Bucklin, Dave Bucklin, Doug Bucklin and Cindy Schock, Russell and Dr. Laura Zuger, Elizabeth Pearce and Jean Irene Pearce; six step-grandchildren, Brennon and Shelly Huber O'Callahan, Ryan, Starlyn and Keenan O'Callahan, Daniel and Erika Fadness; and one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; one sister; and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to First Presbyterian Church, Salvation Army or Anne Carlson School, Jamestown.

Michael Kottre
Michael F. Kottre, 65, Bismarck, died Dec. 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Stanley Malmgren officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Michael F. Kottre was born July 15, 1932, to Steven and Margaret (Kaip) Kottre, in Glen Ullin. He was raised on the family farm. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 14 years, and then in the Army for six years. He received many awards and decorations, and he set records that are still unbroken. He was a military and civilian pilot of both planes and helicopters. He had two tours of duty in Vietnam. He returned to Bismarck after his 20-year military career, and founded K&K Electric, which he proudly claimed stood for Kottre and his Kids. All of his sons worked for him at various times during the past 20 years.

Mike was able to do anything he put his mind to, but to him, becoming a Christian was the most important thing he ever did. He was a preacher and Bible teacher. He shared the Good News of Christ's love with everyone he met, and prayed for all of them. He was a kind and thoughtful man who believed in giving. He always said of money, "If God can get it through you, He will get it to you." But to all of us who loved him, his greatest achievement was his devotion to us. He was Honey, Dad and Papa.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael and Clarissa, Bismarck, Daniel, San Diego, Curtis and Cindi, Jeffrey, and Raymond and Stacie, all of Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Karen, Bismarck, and Janet and Phil Parris, Marana, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, John and Agnes Stumpf, and Rueben and Louise Heupel, all of Bismarck; and one brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Zola, Missoula, Mont.

Carl Sailer
DODGE -- Carl Sailer, 85, Dodge, died Dec. 16, 1997, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dodge, with the Rev. Karin Derenne officiating. Burial will be on the church cemetery, north of Dodge.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Carl was born March 19, 1912, northwest of Dodge, a son of Henry and Olga (Specht) Sailer. He was raised on his family farm northwest of Dodge and attended school in Dodge. On March 31, 1940, he married Frieda Huber at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, north of Dodge. Carl was very active in the community of Dodge for many years as owner of Sailer Grocery, Sailer Hardware and Case Implement. He also served as mayor, was a past school board member and a participant in many other community affairs. Carl was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dodge, and a past church council member. He was a very kind and loving husband and father, and will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Frieda; one sister, Emma Tabbert, Beulah; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jan and Terry Svingen, Salem, Ore., Ardis Stuhlmiller, Bismarck, and Sheila and Wes Becker, Beulah; three granddaughters, Allison and Sean Connor, St. Paul, Ore., Deanna and Jason Larson, Bismarck, and Karman and Mark Rheault, Fargo; two grandsons, Jay Stuhlmiller, Fargo, and Michael Neumann, Missoula, Mont.; one great-granddaughter, Syler Rheault, Fargo; three step-granddaughters, Roxanne and Jack McIntyre, Fullerton, Calif., and Melissa Becker and Jennifer Becker, both of Bismarck.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Olga Sailer; one sister, Amelia Allmendinger; four brothers, Jacob, Leonard, Bill and Andrew Sailer; and one son-in-law, Jerome Stuhlmiller.

LeRoy Messmer
BOWMAN -- LeRoy M. Messmer, 67, Bowman, died of cancer, Dec. 17, 1997, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Bowman, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Roy and Kathryn Messmer, Bowman; three sisters, Betty Zacher, Custer, S.D., Ann Walbey, Bowman, and Joan Helten, Bismarck; and two brothers, Jim, Bowman, and Bill, Woodstock, Ill. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Ann Ocker
GLEN ULLIN -- Ann Ocker, 95, Glen Ullin, died Dec. 15, 1997, in Glen Ulin. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in Glen Ullin Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services.

Ann was born March 2, 1902, in Hallock, Minn., the daughter of Louis and Runghill Bloomquist. She was raised and educated at Hallock. She married Floyd Ocker. They moved to Montana where she was a cook and housekeeper. She moved to Glen Ullin to live with her daughter in 1974. She has resided in Glen Ullin since.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Chuck Miller, Glen Ullin; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Dorothy; and brothers and sisters.

Peter Willer
Peter F. "Pete" Willer, 90, Dickinson, died Dec. 17, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Jerry Kautzman officiating. Special music will be provided by June Peters, organist, and Chris Volk, songleader. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight.

Peter Willer, a son of Franz and Elizabeth (Dolwig) Willer, was born June 27, 1907. He was raised on a farm south of Gladstone and attended rural school. He held various jobs during his young adult life. On Oct. 20, 1941, he married Anna Marie "Ann" Dassinger, in Gladstone. He then opened Willer's Auto Body Shop in Dickinson, which he operated for 30 years. Pete believed in hard work and long days, yet there was always time for family, relatives, friends, lively conversation and a joke or two. He especially enjoyed little children. Although he suffered from dementia the last years of his life, his quick wit and one liners continued. He loved old-time music, dancing, playing cards and fishing. He was a devoted family man and he will leave a void in all the lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald P. and Jean, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Bartow, Woodbury, Minn., and Leone and Bob Pavel, Dickinson; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three sisters, Catherine Lefor, Glendive, Mont., Lee Gorman, Truckee, Calif., and Betty Schiwal, Sun City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; one sister; and many relatives and friends.

Allen Anderson
Allen J. Anderson, 89, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Dec. 16, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck.

Kathleen Long Chase
Kathleen Long Chase, 45, 423 N. 11th St., died Dec. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Episcopal Church, Cannon Ball, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Bernard Two Hearts Jr., Bismarck; one daughter, Krista Two Hearts, Bismarck; her mother, Christine Long Chase, Bismarck; three brothers, Paul Long Chase, Mobridge, S.D., and Henry and Douglas Long Chase, both of Bismarck; and three sisters, Thelma Bull Bear, Bismarck, Susan Gagnon, Bagley, Minn., and Theola Long Chase, Cannon Ball. Robert Robinson
WASHBURN -- Robert R. Robinson, 96, Washburn, died Dec. 16, 1997, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Washburn Baptist Cemetery, with burial in Washburn Baptist Cemetery. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn)

Timothy Pinkney
NAPOLEON -- Timothy C. Pinkney, 56, Napoleon, died Dec. 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; two sons, James, Napoleon, and Timothy, Maddock; three daughters, Barbara Norman, West Fargo, Julie Pinkney, Napoleon, and Renee Pinkney, Bismarck; one sister, Kathy Platt, Moorhead, Minn.; and one brother, Marty, Moorhead. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon)

Doris Callies
FARGO -- Doris N. Callies, 59, Fargo, died Dec. 15, 1997, in her home. A private family service was held.

Genevieve Nerpel
ROLLA -- Genevieve Nerpel, 90, Rolla, died Dec. 15, 1997, in the Dunseith nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Rolla City Hall, with burial in Rolla Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Gayle, Arcadia, Calif.; three daughters, Janice Kubnick, Glenview, Ill., Adrienne Hoverson, Mesa, Ariz., and Phyllis Williams, Devils Lake; and two sisters, Hazel Wahlin, Oakdale, Minn., and Norma Halverson, St. Petersburg, Fla. (Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rolla)

John Blend
NEW SALEM -- John Blend, 69, New Salem, died Dec. 17, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Saturday at Bethel United Church of Christ, rural New Salem. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem.

Pauline Tellman
GLEN ULLIN -- Pauline Tellman, 95, Beverly Hills, Mich., formerly of Glen Ullin, died Dec. 16, 1997, at the home of her daughter. Arrangements are pending at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin.

Allen Anderson
Allen J. Anderson, 89, 2500 Valley View Ave., died Dec. 16, 1997, at a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites provided by Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service and at the church one hour before services.

Allen was born July 16, 1908, in St. Thomas, the son of Abel H. and Mabel (Jacobson) Anderson. After receiving a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1933 from the University of North Dakota, Allen joined the North Dakota State Highway Department in 1934.

He retired from the highway department in 1974 after 40 years of service and rising to the level of chief bridge engineer for the state. While serving as chief engineer, the bridge division received three national awards for excellence in steel design.

On June 28, 1938, Allen married Mildred I. Hoff after a courtship that included singing together in the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir and participating in Luther League activities. Mildred preceded him in death.

In July 1942 Allen took a leave of absence from the highway department and joined the U.S. Navy as an officer in the civil engineering corps. He served for 30 months in the War Plans Division of the Bureau of Yards and Docks in Washington D.C., working on the N.L. Pontoon used by the invitation forces in Sicily and Normandy.

For 14 months, Allen was attached to the Third Brigade of the Seventh Fleet in the South Pacific, ending up in Manila on V-J Day. He retired from the Navy with the rank of commander.

Active in many church and civil organizations, Allen was a member of the board of trustees of Trinity Lutheran Church for five years; chairman of the building committees for Trinity Lutheran Church and Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center; and a member of the board of directors of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for eight years.

He served as president of the Capitol Employees Credit Union for three years; and was state president of North Dakota State Highway Employees Association and North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers.

In 1974 he received the Elwyn F. Chandler Award from North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers for Meritorious Service to the Engineering Profession.

Allen enjoyed singing in the church choir, the annual Messiah presentations, golfing, traveling, working on a family history and visiting his sons and grandchildren in Arizona and Texas. He was a member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis and a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 60 years.

He is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law, Dr. Ronald Anderson and Rachel Anderson of Nacogdoches, Texas; and Dr. Mary Anderson-Rowland of Tempe, Ariz.; three grandsons, Mark Anderson of Dallas, Taldon Anderson and his wife Tiffany of Bothell, Wash., and Tevon Anderson of Tucson, Ariz.; and one great-grandson, Brevin Anderson of Bothell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents; four brothers, John, Oscar I, Norman, and Oscar II; one son, Dr. Bruce Anderson, who died in 1992; and many other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the music program at Trinity Lutheran Church, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, or a charity of their choice.
