John Blend
NEW SALEM -- John Blend, 69, New Salem, died Dec. 17, 1997, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. MST Saturday at Bethel United Church of Christ, south of New Salem, with the Rev. Duane Wacker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

John was born Sept. 11, 1928, at New Salem, the son of Henry and Hulda (Naucke) Blend. He was educated in rural schools and married Erna Just, Nov. 19, 1954, in New Salem. They farmed southeast of New Salem until 1986, when they moved into town. Farming was a very important part of John's life.

A very sociable person, he enjoyed visiting with others, particularly those from other parts of the country.

He was a member of Eagles, Elks and the Angus Association.

He is survived by his wife, Erna; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Glen Lennick of New Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Valerie of New Salem and Wade and Mari Jo of Hettinger; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Ilo Kronberger of Vancouver, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, James; and an infant sister.

Leroy Henderson
Leroy F. Henderson, 67, 1664 Capital Way, died Dec. 17, 1997, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Florence Klusman
Florence Klusman, 94, Evergreen, Colo., died Dec. 18, 1997, in Evergreen. Arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Lloyd Olson
MINNEWAUKAN -- Lloyd L. Olson, 73, Minnewaukan, died Dec. 17, 1997, at the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Brethen Church, Maddock. Further arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Laura Reddig
Laura E. Reddig, 85, 1100 E. Boulevard Ave., died Dec. 17, 1997, at a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Keple officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Cathay at 3 p.m. Monday.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service and at the church one hour before services Monday.

Laura was born Oct. 21, 1912, in Cathay, the daughter of Gustave and Johanna (Broschat) Reddig. She was born into a large family of 11 children with God-fearing parents. Her involvement with missions began early in life.

She was led to Christ and was baptized at the age of 11 by her pastor, a former missionary, the Rev. H.P. Kayser. She became a member of the Cathay Baptist Church.

After graduating from high school in 1930, Laura had a strong desire to become a nurse. In 1934 she graduated from Mounds Midway School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minn., as an RN.

Laura desired further training to prepare for foreign missionary service, so she enrolled at the Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago, where she worked part-time as a nurse to help pay her expenses. She graduated in June 1938 with a B.R.E. degree.

In 1938, Laura was appointed as a missionary nurse to Cameroon, West Africa, for the North American Baptist Conference, where she served for 40 years. She never married, but often spoke of her big God-given family of faithful friends in Cameroon and in the N.A.B. churches.

For her work in Cameroon she received the British Medal of Honor, conferred on her by Queen Elizabeth, the Cameroon Medal of Merit from the President of the United Republic of Cameroon, and the Doctor of Humanities degree from N.A.B. Seminary, Sioux Falls, S.D. A book, "Love Them for Me, Laura," was written about her life in 1984 by the Rev. Edward D. Hughes.

As a missionary nurse, she was involved as a teacher and a midwife and began the first leprosy treatment center in Cameroon.

Laura retired in 1978 and moved to Bismarck, but continued on deputation for more than three years traveling to many churches, camps and retreats.

She was an active member of Bismarck Baptist Church since March of 1979 and in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Bismarck.

She entered basic care in the Baptist Home in 1990 and into skilled nursing in 1992.

Laura is survived by one sister, Ruth Gille of Sun City, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law, Freda Reddig of Fessenden, Ruth Reddig of New Rockford and Helen Reddig of Federal Way, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and four sisters.

Memorials may be given to the N.A.B. Conference for Missions or to the Baptist Home.

Robert Robinson
WASHBURN -- Robert R. Robinson, 96, Washburn, died Dec. 16, 1997, at the Turtle Lake hospital. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Washburn Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Leroy Rustad
MINOT -- Marvin Leroy Rustad, 73, Minot, died Dec. 17, 1997, in his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Roseglen, with burial in East Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Roseglen.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore; one son, Ken of Roseglen; two daughters, Kathleen Rustad of Minot and Beverley Sathe of Tyler, Texas; two brothers, Shirley and Robert, both of Roseglen; and two sisters, Agnes Christenson of Minot, and Elaine Gurley of Long Beach, Calif. Edmund Schatz
RICHARDTON -- Edmund C. Schatz, 76, Richardton, died Dec. 16, 1997, at the Dickinson hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. MST Saturday at Mott Evangelical Community Church, with burial in Pioneer Cemetery, rural Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; one son, Joel of Taylor; two daughters, Gayle Kuhn of Fargo and Garnet VandeVeegaete of Powell, Wyo.; and two sisters, Martha Schwartzmann of Dickinson and Clara King of Modesto, Calif. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

Mildred Sommerfield
MINOT -- Mildred Sommerfield, 90, Minot, died Dec. 16, 1997, at the Parshall nursing home. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

She is survived by one son, Donald of Garrison. (Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot)

Pauline Tellman
Pauline Tellman, 95, Beverly Hills, Mich., died Dec. 16, 1997, in Beverly Hills. Services will be 11 a.m. MST Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and at the church one hour before services.

Pauline was born Nov. 8, 1902, near Hebron, to Jacob and Matilda (Miller) Neumann. She was raised and educated southwest of Hebron. She attended high school in Dickinson.

She worked in the summers and taught rural school in the other months. She married Walter Tellman, Nov. 17, 1930, in New Salem. They moved to Nebraska, where she raised the family.

They moved back to Dickinson, where both she and Walter earned their teaching degrees. They taught rural schools until retiring to Glen Ullin.

Walter died April 11, 1991. In 1995 she moved to be with her daughter for health reasons.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Priscilla and Ralph Lohrengel of Beverly Hills, Marjorie and Tom Pfotenhauer of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and Marian and Frank McClung of North Miami, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alvina Stevenson of Eugene, Ore., and Edna Harvey of Clemson, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and five brothers.

Gina Tollefson
MINNEWAUKAN -- Gina Tollefson, 85, Devils Lake, died Dec. 18, 1997, at the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Christ Free Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Further arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Minnewaukan.

Emma Weisgerber
DICKINSON -- Emma Weisgerber, 82, Dickinson, died Dec. 17, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be 9 a.m. MST Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by four sisters, Blanche Kovash of Scarsdale, Tenn., Pat Anderson of Great Falls, Mont., Margaret Neighbor of Butte, Mont., and Frances Schmidt of Dickinson; and two brothers, George Privratsky of Tyrone, N.M., and Bob Privratsky of Sheridan, Mont. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Robert Wetsch
Robert Wetsch, 53, St. Anthony, died Dec. 17, 1997, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Irene Zuger
Irene Kolb Zuger, 84, 2425 Hillview Ave., died Dec. 17, 1997, at a Bismarck nursing home. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark Bayert officiating. A private burial service will be held earlier at Fairview Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Irene Kolb Zuger and her twin brother, Bill, were born Dec. 1, 1913, in St. Paul, Minn., to Victor and Anna (Thorne) Kolb.

She was raised and educated in St. Paul and graduated from Central High School. She attended the University of Minnesota.

She married John A. Zuger, Sept. 17, 1937, in Oakland, Calif. John and Irene returned to Bismarck where her husband was an attorney for more than 30 years, and vice president of Provident Life Insurance Co.

Irene was a homemaker and Cub Scout leader, active in her church circle at First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon. She loved to travel and read.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sigrid Bucklin and Ann and William Pearce; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Renee Zuger and William Zuger and Annie Griffin, all of Bismarck; two special nieces, Linda Kolb of Cleveland, Ohio, and Karen Nelton of St. Cloud, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Karen Bucklin Sanchez and Ron Sanchez, Anne Bucklin, Dave Bucklin, Doug Bucklin and Cindy Schock, Russell and Dr. Laura Zuger, Diane Zuger, Peter Zuger, Jack Zuger, Elizabeth Pearce and Jean Irene Pearce; six step-grandchildren, Brennon and Shelly Huber O'Callahan, Ryan, Starlyn and Keenan O'Callahan and Daniel and Erika Fadness; and one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; one sister; and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to First Presbyterian Church, the Salvation Army or Anne Carlson School, Jamestown.

Margaret Conner
Margaret "Peggy" Conner, 84, formerly of 803 Collins Ave., Mandan, died Nov. 29, 1997, in a Mandan nursing home. Services will be held at 11-30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

Margaret (Roll) Conner was born Sept. 3, 1913, in New Salem. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia (Erhardt) Roll. Peggy was raised and educated in the New Salem and Flasher areas. She married Peter Conner on April 7, 1940, in Steele. She was a cook at Liberty Heights, Mandan Hospital, and the Mandan Moose.

She was a member of St. Joseph Parish and Eagle's Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sisters, Monica Topping, Tacoma, Wash., Bertha Erhardt, Mandan, and Pauline Erhardt, Bismarck; two half-brothers and sisters-in-law, Florian and Carmen Roll, Foreston, Minn., and John and Maggie Roll, Denver; one half-sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Mike Ressler, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Irene Elter, Mandan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter, who died on March 19, 1984; two brothers, Matt and Frank; two half-brothers, Peter and Max; two sisters, Minnie and Eve; and one half-sister, Ida.

Delmar Erickson
Delmar Erickson, 68, 704 S. Woodland Dr., Mandan, died Nov. 29, 1997, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites provided by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service said at 7 p.m. that evening.

Delmar was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Mountrail County on the family farm. His parents were William A. and Gladys M. (Fish) Erickson. He attended Lostwood Public School. He left the farm in 1946 to enlist in the Navy, and served in the Air Branch as a Maintenance Specialist on flying boats. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He married LaVerne (Sis) Moe in 1946. He worked for Burlington Northern as an agent telegrapher, managed Red Owl stores, developed and owned North Star Mobile Home Park, and leased trucks to and drove for Barrett Mobile Home Transport. In 1964, he married Bonita Lautt. He returned to buy and run the family farm from 1973 to 1983, when he started a livestock trucking business which later became a livestock trailer transport business. He married Patricia Lehfeldt in 1993.

He was active in church and civic groups. He helped organize the Minot Sertoma Club, charter organizer of North Hill Lutheran, member of Stanley Legion Post, member and director of Lostwood Lutheran Church, Stanley School Board and board president, State School Board Assocation Board of Directors, N.D. Educators Insurance Trust Board of Trustees, among many others.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his mother, Gladys Erickson; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lynn and Joanne, Waumakee, Wis., and Devan, Thief River Falls, Minn.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sharon and Bill Gartrell, Anchorage, Alaska, DeeAnn Stull, West Pittston, Penn., Danette and Al Olson, Oklee, Minn., and Delaine and Jim Covet, Oak Harbor, Wash.; two step-sons and one step-daughter-in-law, Stacy and Irene Lehfeldt, Trusten, Calif., and Trevor Lehfeldt, Fargo; two stepdaughters, Sonya Lehfeldt, Fridley, Minn., and Kari Lehfeldt, Dickinson; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Elmer Lewis, Spokane, Wash., Carol and Wayne Shea, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Bonnie and Colin Lovdahl, Sr., Palermo; and special friends, Harold and Anne Fetzer, George and Bess Kulish, and Ralph and Freida Boespflug.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sis, who died in 1975; his father, William in 1981; and one stepson, Lance Lehfeldt, in 1988.

Richard Hurdelbrink
Richard G. Hurdelbrink, 53, Mandan, died Nov. 29, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood, late Wednesday afternoon.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Rich was born Aug. 31, 1944, in Norman, Okla., the son of Ben and Dotty (Nelson) Hurdelbrink. He grew up in Sherwood and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1962. He graduated from NDSU in 1966 with a degree in agricultural economics. While in college, he enlisted in the Army Reserve. Rich married Judy Henderson on Nov. 4, 1967, in Sherwood. He worked in banking and finance for 18 years. In 1988, he took over farming his parents' land in Sherwood and also returned to school. He earned a law degree from UND in 1990 and started his own law practice in Mandan in 1993.

He was an avid golfer and hunter and loved to play cards. He was well known for his unique sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; one son, Tim, and future daughter-in-law, Theresa Cler, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Terri and Rod Fahrenholtz, Grand Forks, and Jessica Hurdelbrink, at home; two granddaughters, Cara and Kristen Hurdelbrink, Grand Rapids; one sister and brother-in-law, Darla and Alan DesLauriers, Minot; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jeff and JoAnn, Arvada, Colo., and Tom, Minot; and numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)
