Camilla DeCouteau, 59, 700 S. 12th St., Bismarck, died Nov. 29, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements pending with Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Darcy Rau
NAPOLEON -- Darcy D. Rau, 39, Napoleon, died Nov. 28, 1997, in Rochester, Minn. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. Gary Connors-Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Napoleon City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Darcy was born March 26, 1958, to Walter and Ellena (Franz) Rau. He was raised on the family farm 10 miles northeast of Napoleon, and received his education in Napoleon Public Schools, graduating from Napoleon High School in 1976. He continued to live at home and farm with his father, Walter and brother, Darryl. He married Donna Becker on Oct. 30, 1982, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Following their marriage, they returned to the Rau family farm where they currently live and farm.

Darcy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He will be remembered for his love of his family and farming. His hobbies included a passion for golf and he was an avid bowler.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two children, Danette and David Rau, both at home; his parents, Walter and Ellena, Napoleon; one brother and sister-in-law, Darryl and Susan Rau, Napoleon; his father and mother-in-law, John and Delores Becker, Napoleon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

The family would prefer memorials in lieu of flowers.

Jack Lesmeister
REEDER -- Jack D. Lesmeister, 50, Reeder, died Nov. 29, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Reeder Catholic Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Reeder.

He is survived by his wife, Karol; one son, Chad, Rapid City, S.D.; two daughters, Leanne Smutzler, Dickinson, and Jackie Donner, Fargo; his father, Leo, Dickinson; his mother, Joyce Schultz, Apache Junction, Ariz.; four brothers, Jim, Halliday, Joel, Bismarck, and John and Jeff, both of Fargo; and three sisters, Janie Williams, Jan Wolf, and Julie Lesmeister, all of Bismarck. Lester Bauer
BEULAH -- Lester Bauer, 79, Beulah, died Nov. 30, 1997, in a Reno, Nev., hospital. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Ronald Harmon
Ronald Harmon, 53, Mandan, and formerly of Watford City, died Nov. 27, 1997, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Epiphany Catholic Church, Watford City. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)

John Bosch
John F. Bosch, 72, Barnsville, Minn., and formerly of Linton and Mandan, died Nov. 30, 1997, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, Minn. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Linton.

He is survived by one sister, Sister Marcia Bosch, Rapid City, S.D. (Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead)

Vicki Finders
WILLISTON -- Vicki Finders, 54, Williston, died Nov. 28, 1997, at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at New Hope Wesleyan Church, Williston.

She is survived by her husband, David; four sons, Zack, Minneapolis, and Aaron, Josh and Blaine, all of Williston; one brother, Gary Johnson, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and one sister, Patricia Downs, Eyota, Minn. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Ernest McCone
Ernest "Ernie" H. McCone, 85, Mandan, died Nov. 29, 1997, at his home after a courageous nine-year battle with leukemia. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First United Methodist Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Beth Conrad officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Ernie was born on Jan. 29, 1912, on the family farm near Hensler, the son of George and Mary (Hammond) McCone. He attended school at Hensler. As a youth, one of Ernie's interests was riding and breaking wild horses. Ernie married Evelyn B. Herrington on June 15, 1939, in Mandan. After four years in Michigan, they returned to Mandan, where Ernie began his career as a commercial truck driver. He was employed by Occident Flour Company for many years until the mill in Minot burned. He then drove for Peavey Company until his retirement.

He was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed the many trips to the Badlands with his brother, Mike. Although hunting was important, of equal importance, was his companionship with family and friends. He was a devoted gardener. Once again with his brother, Mike. They often shared large gardens and raised an overabundance of produce and gave much of it away.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Gary Halcro, Missoula, Mont.; two granddaughters, Renell Wilson, Kalispell, Mont., and Kim Halcro, Asaka, Japan; and one brother, Mike, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert and Hauk, and one sister, Genevieve "Tag".

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Leukemia Society.

Selma Hoesel
NEW SALEM -- Selma Hoesel, 76, New Salem, died Nov. 30, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Further arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Charles Kordonowy
JAMESTOWN -- Charles M. Kordonowy, 58, Jamestown, died Nov. 28, 1997, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today, at Thompson Auditorium -- Jamestown High School.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons, Stuart, Asheville, N.C., Wade, Merriam, Kan., and Shawn, Wichita, Kan.; and one daughter, Alicia Winterroth, Lakeville, Minn. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Raymond Wieger
STANTON -- Raymond Wieger, 84, Stanton, died Nov. 30, 1997, in a Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday, at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Burial will be in Stanton City Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Fern; one daughter, Nelda Lang, Stanton; one sister, Mary Leupp, Stanton; one brother, Irwin, Stanton. (Seibel Funeral Homes, Beulah and Hazen)

Reuben Hegel
Reuben Hegel, 74, Bismarck, died Nov. 29, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Reuben was born on Aug. 7, 1923, to Philip and Rosina (Voegele) Hegel, on their farm in Holmes Township, northwest of McClusky. Reuben married Alma Kukert on April 1, 1944. They purchased his parents' homestead and farmed until 1980, when they moved to Bismarck. Reuben worked for Pinehurst Properties from 1981 until his illness a few months ago.

He served on the school board and township board in McClusky, and the Board of Trustees of First United Methodist Church, in Bismarck. He was also a member of McClusky Rural Fire Department for 26 years and the Harvey Eagles.

In addition to working, Reuben enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was known for being able to "fix anything but a broken heart and the crack of dawn."

He is survived by his wife; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diana and Jim Callahan, Santee, Calif., Bonita Hoffmann, Bismarck, and Claudette and Dan Comfort, Minneapolis; two grandsons, Kevin and his wife, Gina Hoffmann, Harvey, and Michael Hoffmann, Anamoose; one great-granddaughter, Kayla; and five sisters and four brother-in-law, Alvina and Theobald Bentz, Underwood, Adeline and Clarence Neff, Mercer, Elsie Hoffer, and Lorraine and Walter Kukert, all of McClusky, and Ann and Reinhold Burkart, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alma Bentz; and two brothers and one sister who died in childhood.

His family and many friends will miss him greatly.

Douglas Swanson
Douglas "Swany" Swanson, 49, Bismarck, died Nov. 26, 1997, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Burial will be at noon today, in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Robinson.

George Schroeder
HEBRON -- George Schroeder, 83, Hebron, died Nov. 29, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Hebron, with the Rev. Francis dos Remedios officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation begins after 4 p.m. MST Tuesday, at the church and ongoing until service time. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the church.

George was born Feb. 3, 1914, to Joseph and Mary (Sigl) Schroeder. He was raised and educated in Gladstone and Dickinson. He worked on the family farm in rural Gladstone. He married Elizabeth Roll on Dec. 31, 1935, in Taylor. Following their marriage, they moved out west where George worked in the shipyards. In the late 1940's, they moved to Taylor where he worked as a farmhand until retiring in 1984. Following retirement, they moved to Hebron.

George enjoyed fishing, playing cards and shooting pool at the senior citizens center. He was also a member of Brick City Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two daughters and one son-in-law, Eileen Schroeder, Hebron, and Donna and Charles Boyer, Meta Mora, Mich.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Dixie, Fontana, Calif., and Dennis and Kim, Towner; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Regina Haldeman, Yakima, Wash.; and six brothers, Joe and Richard Kappel, both of Dickinson, Herb and Frank Kappel, both of Fargo, Bill Kappel, Yakima, and Peter Kappel, White Bear Lake, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one infant son, Joseph. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Edmund Birkmaier
DICKINSON -- Edmund C. Birkmaier, 81, Dickinson, and formerly of Bismarck and Hebron, died Nov. 29, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST, at St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron. Further arrangements are pending with Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron.

Leonard Ostrom
KIEF -- Leonard Ostrom, 87, rural Kief, died Nov. 28, 1997, in a Velva nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky. Burial will be in McClusky City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, both at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Leonard was born May 20, 1910, on the family farm north of McClusky. He was the son of Theodore and Anna Louise (Anderson) Ostrom. He grew up and attended rural school. He graduated from Drake High School and went one to receive his teaching certificate from Minot State University. He married Marjorie James on April 10, 1933, in Minot. They lived and farmed near Crooked Lake. In 1938, they purchased and moved to a farm south of Kief. It was here they raised their family and farmed and ranched. Marjorie died on Dec. 22, 1981. In October of 1995, he entered the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky, and in March of 1997, he entered the Souris Valley Care Ceneter in Velva.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky, and a former member of West Scandia Lutheran Church. He was a charter member and served on the board of directors for the Mouse River Stockman's Association. He served on the Highland Township Board and School Board, Sheridan County. He was very active in the state Republican party having served as committeeman and in several other capacities.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Douglas, Yuma, Ariz., and Dennis and Nancy, rural Kief; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Pete Jaeger, Great Falls, Mont., Donna and Earl Sweig, Anderson, Calif., and MarJean Selby, Tucker, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Running, Midlothian, Va.; and one brother, Lawrence, Fresno, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son, Delton; and three brothers, Harold, Chester and Lyle; and one sister, Toline Kensmoe. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)

Martha Arndt
Martha Arndt, 95, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Nov. 30, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Florence Klusman
Florence C. Klusman, 94, Evergreen, Colo., and formerly of New Salem, died Dec. 18, 1997, in Evergreen. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Monday, at Salem United Church of Christ, New Salem, with the Rev. Ken Trana officiating. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Florence was born on Dec. 22, 1902, the daughter of Henry and Lena (Schneider) Wildy. She married Charles A. Klusman on Dec. 2, 1923, in New Athens, Ill. They farmed near New Salem until 1952, when they moved to Bismarck. Florence worked in the dry goods department at both the Lucas Department Store and J.C. Penney during the 1950s. They moved to Evergreen, Colo., in 1964.

She and her husband were members of of the Presbyterian Church of the Hills, in Evergreen. Charles died in 1990.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Jeral R. Serviss, Evergreen; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Elaine, New Salem; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and one daughter and son-in-law, Muriel and Harold Edison. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Betty Hoff
Betty Hoff, 59, Billings, Mont., and formerly of Bismarck, died Dec. 19, 1997, in a Billings nursing home.

Betty was born in July of 1938 to Sebastian and Frances Kuntz. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She worked at St. Alexius Medical Center for a number of years. She married Howard Hoff in June of 1957.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard Jr. and Cindy, Mitchell and Beth, all of Billings; two daughters and one son-in-law, Denise and Terry Schafer, and Stacey Hoff, all of Billings; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Edward and Marlys Kuntz, and Delores Kuntz, all of Bismarck; and Gary and Rita Kuntz, Castle Rock, Colo.

Gladys Henderson
SCRANTON -- Gladys E. Henderson, 84, Scranton, died Dec. 17, 1997, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Scranton. Burial will be in Scranton Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice; four sons, David, Mandan, Jerome, Maple Grove, Minn., William, Lisbon, and Dale, Scranton; and three daughters, Ann Johnson, Chicago, Fae Pierce, Scranton, and Jane Pierce, Beulah. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Gina Tollefson
DEVILS LAKE -- Gina A. Tollefson, 85, Devils Lake, and formerly of Minnewaukan, died Dec. 18, 1997, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, at Christ Free Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.

She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Tollefson, Devils Lake, and Betty Johnson, Lignite; three brothers, Arnold and Ray Yri, both of Minnewaukan, and Ted Yri, Leeds; and one sister, Bernice Myhre, Minot. (Nelson Funeral Home, Minnewaukan)
