Pauline Rothschiller
Pauline Rothschiller, 75, Huntington Beach, Calif., and formerly of the Mandan area, died November 11, 1998, in a Huntington Beach hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. this evening.

Pauline Lanz was born on Aug. 13, 1923 in St. Anthony, the daughter of Michael and Magdalena (Helbling) Lanz. She was raised in the area and attended school in St. Anthony and Mandan. Pauline was married to Francis J. Rothschiller from 1947 until 1980. She had been a resident of California since 1981.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Randy Volz of Federal Way, Wash., and their children, Erasmus and Erica, and Anne and Dennis Helbling of Mandan and their children, Michael, Kim and Chris; eight sons and five daughters-in-law, Frank and Gail of Bismarck and their children, Elizabeth, Kathy, Matthew and Jennifer, Mike of Huntington Beach, Mark and Dorothy of Mandan and their children, Joe, Sarah, Tonya, Jason and Justin, Paul of Bismarck and his children, Alicia and Amanda, Jim and Jill of Dallas, Texas, Joe and Carlene of Dickinson and their children, Bradley, Shane and Karli, Bob and Laurie of Mandan, and their children, Cole and Brandi, and Jake of Bismarck; one great-grandson, Alex; one brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Namsun Lanz of Mandan; one sister, Josephine Meyers of Frazier Park, Calif.; three aunts, Frances Ferderer of Rowland Heights, Calif., Kate Proctor of Mandan, and Clem Connelly of Breckenridge, Minn.; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, John; her parents and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Arthur Stockert
SCRANTON -- Arthur R. "Art" Stockert, 74, Scranton, died Nov. 14, 1998, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. MST Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Scranton, with the Rev. John Mathia officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, at 2:30 p.m. CST Wednesday, with full military rites provided.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. MST today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Scranton.

Art was born on Aug. 6, 1924, in Missoula, Mont., the son of John F. and Celestina (Kopp) Stockert. He attended elementary high school in Solen. Art enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March of 1943. He served in the Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged in March of 1946.

He married Elizabeth "Bette" Thomas on June 23, 1947, at Odense Church in Morton County. Art and Bette had two daughters, Linda and Sandy, and one son, Duane. Art worked for Helm Brothers and then Knife River Coal Co. of Gascoyne, as a shovel operator, retiring in 1986 after 36 years.

Art enjoyed socializing, painting, horseshoes, golf, gambling, camping and boating and his greatest love -- a cold beer and fishing with friends..."Ya know what I mean."

He was a member of the Scranton Community Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326 of Bismarck, and a 48-year member of the Harry W. Lindberg American Legion Post No. 151 of Scranton.

He is survived by his wife, Bette; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gary Andersen, Bowman, and Sandy and Lance Silha, Glendive, Mont.; one son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Linda Stockert, Beaumont, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jason, Greg and his wife Amy, and Ryan Andersen, Brent and Blake Silha and Ashley and Kelly Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Layna Silha; one sister, Delores Whiteman, Steele; and two brothers, Gerald Stockert, Bismarck, and Herb Stockert, Nashville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Viola Valandra. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman, and Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Glendive, Mont.)

Karl Olsson
HAZEN -- Karl Olsson, 49, Hazen, died Nov. 14, 1998, in the Hazen hospital of natural causes. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at New Bethel Congregational Church, Hazen, with the Rev. John Barwick officiating. Burial will be in Hazen City Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be from 2-8 p.m. MST today, at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. There will be no reviewal at the church.

Karl was born on Jan. 21, 1949, at San Luis Obispo, Calif., the son of Karl and Dagmar (Anderson) Olsson. He married Judy Bergman on Jan. 27, 1973, in St. Paul, Minn. Karl and Judy lived in De Soto, Ill., Canton, Ill., and Evansville, Ind. before moving to Hazen in February of 1980. Karl worked as a mining engineer for Consolidation Coal Co. and as an environmental coordinator for Basin Electric Power Cooperative at the Leland Olds Station. Karl was a member of New Bethel Congregational Church, Hazen, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also was active in Scouting.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his mother-in-law, Esther Bergman, Eden Prairie, Minn.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kristina Olsson, and Kathleen and Derick Hillerud, all of St. Paul, Minn.; one son, Jeffrey Olsson, Billings, Mont.; and one granddaughter, Tayadora Hillerud.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law; 10 aunts and uncles; and an infant daughter, Amy.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Trails End Ranch or the Child Evangelism Fellowship, Southwest Chapter.

Erling Kvande
WILLISTON -- Erling Kvande, 73, Williston, died Nov. 15, 1998, in a Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Alamo. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; two sons, Kenneth, Williston, and Randy, Alamo; one daughter, Darlene Kvande, Longmount, Colo.; five brothers, Alvin, Alamo, Trygve and Gordon, both of Polson, Mont., Selmer, Grand Forks, and Clarence, Black Eagle, Mont.; and four sisters, Verna Muth, Fergus Falls, Minn., Bernice Eid, Columbia Falls, Mont., Helen Smith, Port Orchard, Wash., and Florence Westerso, Great Falls, Mont. Martha Wellhouse
Martha N. Wellhouse, 88, Castlewood, S.D., died Nov. 14, 1998, in a Castlewood nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bemis Holland Presbyterian Church, rural Clear Lake, S.D. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; two daughters, Bonnie Rae Gerhold, Lake Poinsett, S.D., and Judy Gisselbeck, Castlewood; two sons, John Henry Wellhouse, Pierre, S.D., and Gregory G. Wellhouse, Castlewood; one brother, Cliff Hemmingson, Park Rapids, Minn.; and one sister, Lillian Tofteland, Sioux Falls, S.D. (Geise Funeral Home, Estelline, S.D.)

Terry Fuchs
CARSON -- Terry Fuchs, 42, Carson, died Nov. 15, 1998, in Carson of injuries sustained in a farm accident. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Paradise. Burial will be in Leith Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Melodie; two daughters, Katherine and Elizabeth, both at home; one son, Jack, at home; his parents, William and Violet Fuchs, Carson; two brothers, Coyle and Jody, both of Carson; and two grandmothers, Elizabeth Fuchs, Glen Ullin, and Eva Hillius, Elgin. Theodore Zuck
COLEHARBOR -- Theodore A. Zuck, 60, Coleharbor, died Nov. 15, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Riverdale. Burial will be in Coleharbor Cemetery.

He is survived by two brothers, Edwin, Minot, and Paul, Marion; seven sisters, Orrabella Houser, Underwood, Mary Schumacher, Sykeston, Edith Severe, Burien, Wash., Esther McCray and Anna Duben, both of Coleharbor, Minnie Taylor, Minot, and Julia Hedden, Matawan, N.J. Agnes Lorenz
LAWTON -- Agnes O. Lorenz, 89, Lawton, died Nov. 12, 1998, in a Devils Lake nursing home. Services were held on Nov. 15, 1998, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Burial was in Devils Lake Cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, David and Stewart, both of Lawton, and Eugene, Bismarck; one brother, Sverre Helland, Olympia, Wash.; and two sisters, Gladys Gjesdal, Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, and Stella Martin, Huntington Beach, Calif. (Aaker Funeral Home, Devils Lake)

Marcus Klein
LINTON -- Marcus Klein, 88, Linton, died Nov. 15, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Pius, Minot, James, Linton, and Frank, Bismarck; one daughter, Cecilia Roehrich, Bismarck; one brother, Ludwig, Linton; and one sister, Katie Senger, Milwaukee, Wis. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Dorothy Hoppe
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn -- Dorothy C. Hoppe, 77, Golden Valley, died Nov. 13, 1998, in Rugby, N.D. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Faith Lilac Way, Robbinsdale, Minn. Burial will be in Fort Snelling, Minnesota.

She is survived by her children, Henry Blaisdell, San Diego, Calif., John Blaisdell, Kearny, Ariz., Kay Hovland, Rugby, George Blaisdell, Cle Elum, Wash., and Bill Hoppe, Minneapolis. (Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rugby)

Chester Torgerson
MADDOCK -- Chester A. Torgerson, 91, rural Maddock, died Nov. 15, 1998, in a Devils Lake care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by a sister, Hazell Helgeson, Minnewaukan; and a brother, Gordon Torgerson, rural Maddock. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Roy Nelson
Roy Nelson, 79, Joplin, Mo., died Nov. 8, 1998, at his home. Memorial services were held on Nov. 11, 1998, in Joplin.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; and his sisters, Agnes Collins, Bismarck, Gladys Jodock, Northwood, Hattie Blaufuss, Grand Forks, Selma Streich, Grand Forks, Elsie Nelson, DeLamere, and Norma Argall, Valders, Wis. and Helen Krueger, Yuma, Wash.

Helen Arfsten
FARGO -- Helen M. Arfsten, 89, Fargo and formerly of Mandan, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Fargo nursing home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo. Private family burial was held at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. (Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo)

Raymond Palmberg
Raymond Palmberg, 67, Minneapolis, and formerly of Velva, died Nov. 13, 1998, in a Minneapolis hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. Burial will be in Velva Cemetery.

WILLISTON -- Bertha Grasser, 83, Williston, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Everson Memorial Chapel, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Arley Brakel
HEATON -- Arley Brakel, 79, Heaton, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Carrington hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Leslie Olson
WILTON -- Leslie G. Olson, 84, Wilton, died Nov. 16, 1998, in Phoenix, Ariz. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Arthur Zahn
Arthur Zahn, 75, 1903 N. Sixth St., Bismarck, died Nov. 16, 1998, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Bradley Stoltenow officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will begin today from 4-8 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Arthur V. Zahn was born to Emil and Deno (Zorn) Zahn on May 6, 1923, in Elysian Township, near Gardena in Bottineau County. He was reared on the family farm and attended elementary school in a rural school in Elysian township and graduated from Gardena High School in 1941.

He attended the North Dakota School of Forestry (currently the Bottineau branch of MSU) for a short period before being drafted into the Army on April 14, 1943. He served in the Pacific area until he was released from the service on Jan. 22, 1946, and then was employed by the North Central Electric Cooperative at Bottineau.

He married Myrle Fox of Bottineau on Nov. 26, 1947. They raised four children. He was called to active duty with the North Dakota National Guard on Sept. 1, 1950, and served until his release on May 8, 1953. He remained active with the National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve until January 1976.

After his release from active duty in 1953, he was employed by Dakota Transfer and Storage in Minot; Northwest Mutual Aid Telephone Cooperative in Ray; as a civilian technician with the U.S. Army Reserve in Bismarck and Kansas City; and with the North Dakota State Department of Health. He retired on Jan. 31, 1989.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Myrle; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Morris, Bozeman, Mont., Gary and Mary, Minnetonka, Minn., and Robert and Karen, Bismarck; two grandchildren, Matthew and Kathryn Zahn; one brother, Elmer Zahn, Nashua, Mont.; and three sisters, Adeline Malvey, Minnetonka, Mildred Aubol, New Town, and DeLila Bachmeier, Minot.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond; and one daughter, Diane Wagner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association, 411 N. 4th St., Bismarck.

Leslie Olson
WILTON -- Leslie Olson, 84, Wilton, died Nov. 16, 1998, in Phoenix of cancer. His body has been donated to science. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Leslie G. was born on Nov. 3, 1914, in rural Wilton, the son of Jacob and Laura (Gill) Olson. He was raised and educated in the Wilton-Washburn area. He served in World War II from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946.

Leslie married Helen Larson on April 28, 1945, in Wilton. They farmed in the Wilton area for a couple of years. He also worked as a coal miner and custodian at the Wilton Public Schools. In 1964 they moved to Bismarck and Leslie worked as a carpenter at Bismarck High School. He retired in 1976.

Leslie loved deer hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Bismarck Eagles, the American Legion, and the V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy, Dallas, Texas, and Clinton and Sue, Wilton; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Kevin Opp, Phoenix; four grandchildren, Scott and Ryan Olson, and Nicole and Heather Opp; one brother and sister-in-law, Morise and Pauline, Wilton; and one sister, Vera Cleveland, Gillette, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Louis and Delbert; and one sister, Helen; and a granddaughter, Tammy. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Vera Samuelson
MINOT -- Vera I. Samuelson, 79, Minot, formerly of the Bismarck-Mandan area, died Nov. 15, 1998, in a Minot hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

She is survived by her husband, Reuben, Minot; four sons, Melford, Coleharbor, Lyle, Minot, Reuben V., Alliance, Neb., and Gary, Edgewood, Wash.; two daughters, Dona Statler, Renton, Wash., and Debbie Christopher, Minot; two brothers, Duane Edwards, Redding, Calif., and Harold Edwards, Garrison; and two sisters, Ella Brodell, Portland, Ore., and Inez McRae, Rock Lake, Ill. MINOT -- Helen M. Veach, 93, Minot, died Nov. 13, 1998, in California. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
