She is survived by three sons, David and Stewart, both of Lawton, and Eugene, Bismarck; one brother, Sverre Helland, Olympia, Wash.; and two sisters, Gladys Gjesdal, Birch Hills, Sask., Canada, and Stella Martin, Huntington Beach, Calif. (Aaker Funeral Home, Devils Lake)

Arley Brakel
HEATON -- Arley Brakel, 79, Heaton, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Carrington health center. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich. Burial will be in Goodrich City Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, Arlo, Blacklick, Ohio, and Lonney, Grand Forks; and two daughters, Janell Brakel, Wadena, Minn., and Janine Holbrook, Marysville, Wash.; and two brothers, Garvin, Chandler, Ariz., and Thomas, Livingston, Texas. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)

JAMESTOWN -- Rose Alton, 68, Jamestown, died Nov. 15, 1998, in a Jamestown hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the North Dakota State Hospital Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Baldwin Cemetery.

She is survived by four sisters, Viola Kline, Winchester, Va., Emy Beardsley, Olympia, Wash., Ann Haas, Elgin, and Mary Weixel, Fargo; and three brothers, Robert and Gilbert, both of Bismarck, and Norman, Deerwood, Minn. (Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown)

George Magnuson
George W. Magnuson, 81, Renton, Wash., formerly of the Bismarck and Driscoll areas, died Nov. 4, 1998, in California. Services were held on Nov. 9 at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Renton. Burial was in Hillcrest Burial Park, Kent, Wash.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; and his children, William, Milton-Freewater, Ore., Lyle, Kent, Wash., Thyla Wittmayer, Covington, Wash., and Anna Marie Clements, Renton.

Bertha Grasser
WILLISTON -- Bertha Grasser, 83, Williston, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Williston nursing home. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Everson Memorial Chapel, Williston. Burial will be in Epping Cemetery.

Ruth Hoffart
Ruth F. Hoffart, 82, 107 Seminole Ave., Bismarck, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be noon Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Robert Voigt
DICKINSON -- Dr. Robert Voigt, 71, Dickinson, died Nov. 17, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Arrangements are pending with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Ruth Hoffart
Ruth Hoffart, 82, 107 Seminole Avenue, Bismarck, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home, where she had been cared for since June. Services will be held at noon Saturday, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Spring interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Ruth was born April 29, 1916, at Hebron, the daughter of John "Jack" and Ethel (Campbell) Kearns. She lived in Hebron, Beulah and Hazen areas. Ruth married Pius Hoffart on Nov. 20, 1940, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bismarck. She worked in retail sales at Morrey Alans, Bakkens, The Alex Ruth Shop and Herberger's where she was employed until her retirement. She enjoyed planning weddings and style shows.

As a founding member of the Cathedral Of The Holy Spirit, she dedicated many hours to the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Girl Scouts, Elks, Eagles and United Commercial Travelers.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Pius; one daughter, Margaret Ann Hammeren, Bismarck; three granddaughters, Joan Hammeren, Denver, Janelle Hammeren, Bismarck, and Fawn Schirado and her husband, Doug, Bismarck; three great-grandsons, Kendall Hammeren, Devin Schirado and Benjamin Schirado; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman "Red" and Grace Kearns, Augusta, Ga., and James and Bonnie Kearns, La Grande, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter; one brother, John Clair; and one sister, Jeannette Gordon. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Arley Brakel
HEATON -- Arley Brakel, 79, Heaton, died Nov. 16, 1998, in the Carrington health center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich. Burial will be in Goodrich City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-noon today at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Arley was born on Aug. 21, 1919, on the family farm north of Goodrich, he was the son of Thomas and Marie (Stoltenberg) Brakel. He grew up there and attended rural school. As a young man he farmed with his father. On March 12, 1941, he entered the Army. He served in the 273 Infantry of 3rd Battalion and served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was wounded on Aug. 23, 1944, at St. Lo, France, and received the Purple Heart. He was hospitalized and later returned to his unit for the remainder of the war. He was discharged on Sept. 26, 1945, and returned to Goodrich to farm. He married Agnes Erdmann on June 10, 1951, in Harvey. In January 1952, they moved to a farm south of Heaton. He retired in 1981 and continued living on the farm.

He served on the Wells County Water Board and on the Speedwell Township Board. He enjoyed traveling with their motor home.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons and daughters-in-law, Arlo and Phyllis, Blacklick, Ohio, and Lonny and Carol, Grand Forks; two daughters and one son-in-law, Janell Brakel, Wadena, Minn., and Janine and Jonathan Holbrook, Marysville, Wash.; four grandchildren; two stepchildren; his brothers, Garvin, Chandler, Ariz., and Thomas, Livingston, Texas; and two sisters, Vearl Haugen and Irene Sauter, both of Goodrich.

Arley was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Clarence, Raymond and Orville. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Leonard Vetter
MAYVILLE -- Leonard Vetter, 68, Mayville and formerly of Fessenden, died Nov. 16, 1998, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Fessenden. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two sons, Kevin, West Fargo, and Doug, Burnsville, Minn.; three daughters, Peggy Sundquist, Northwood, Connie Wentz and Lisa Best, both of Dallas; five brothers, William, Selz, Casper, Bismarck, Ray, Great Falls, Mont., Victor, Bismarck, and Joe, Minot; and three sisters, Lena Selensky and Mary Grossman, both of Harvey, and Barbara Schneider, Selz. He is survived by his wife, Janice; two daughters, Jane Fisher, LaCrosse, Wis., and Suzanne Wofford, San Antonio; five sons, Roger, Watertown, S.D., Eldon, Anderson, S.C., Tom, Dillon, Mont., Carter, Rosemont, Minn., and Dan, Dickinson; one sister, Eunice Braaten, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and two brothers, Clair, Coleharbor, and Harold, Dickinson. Dale Jurgenson

Ralph Aas
FARGO -- Dr. Ralph A. Aas, 76, Fargo, died Nov. 13, 1998, in Fargo. A memorial service will be held at the family farm near Hendrum, Minn.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; one son, Alan, Nevis, Minn.; three daughters, Ann Eddy, Tacoma, Wash., Amy Aas, San Diego, Calif., and Arlene Christopher, Fargo; two brothers, John, Hendrum, and Wallace, Greeley, Colo.; and two sisters, Alfhild Larson, Gary, Minn., and Valborg Smith, Hendrum. Michael Wertz
Michael F. Wertz, 79, Salem, Ore., and formerly of Center, died Nov. 11, 1998, in Salem. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Chapel of the Gardens, Salem. Burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth, Korea, Robert, Portland, and Clem, Salem; one brother, Matt, Springfield, Ore.; and four sisters, Genevieve, Bismarck, Eva Ferguson, Roundup, Mont., Ann Nistler, Beach, and Margert Ehli, Bismarck.

Gerda Smith
ESMOND -- Gerda Smith, 94, rural Esmond and Maddock, died Nov. 18, 1998, in the New Rockford nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Esmond. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond.

Agnes Daniel
RAY -- Agnes L. Daniel, 86, Ray, died Nov. 18, 1998, in the Tioga medical center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Ray. Further arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga.

Helen Volk
HARVEY -- Helen Volk, 94, Harvey, died Nov. 18, 1998, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Mary Anderson
Mary V. Anderson, 89, Glasgow, Mont., and formerly of Jamestown, died Nov. 18, 1998, at Glasgow. Arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Kurt Zeutschel Jr.
NEW SALEM -- Kurt G. Zeutschel Jr., 83, New Salem, died Oct. 29, 1998, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday, at Peace Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Richard Herb officiating. Burial will be in Judson Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. Monday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Chapel, New Salem, and continues for one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.

Kurt George Zeutschel Jr., was born on March 10, 1915, on a farm northeast of New Salem, the son of Kurt Sr. and Freida (Speck) Zeutschel. He was raised and educated in the area. He married Delores Toepke on Nov. 6, 1943, in New Salem and they farmed for many years. He worked for several years for the Yegen Dairy, was a carpenter and a sausage maker. They moved into New Salem in 1991. Kurt enjoyed camping with Delores and they spent happy hours with their grandchildren. He was always willing to take time to visit with friends and strangers alike. The trip to a fishing spot and time spent fishing were his favorite pastimes. Delores died on May 22, 1998.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dennis Olin, New Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Pam, Puyallup, Wash., and Keith and Linda, Horace; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Troy Zeutschel, Scott and Jodi Zeutschel, Lori and Greg Ackerson, Chad Zeutschel, Jonathan Zeutschel, Sandra and Dan Domagala and Darrin and Teresa Olin; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Hood, Spokane, Wash.; two half-sisters, Freida Smith, Montesano, Wash., and Joyce Medah, Yakima, Wash.; three half-brothers, Harold Zeutschel, Spokane, Ray Zeutschel, Tacoma, Wash., and Milton Zeutschel, Issaquah, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; two brothers; two sisters and one half-sister. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Philomena Privratsky
STEELE -- Philomena Privratsky, 89, Steele, and formerly of Dickinson, died Oct. 30, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by five daughters, Philomena Dosch and Nancy Otto, both of BImsarck, Otillia Haider, Mandan, Mary Privratsky, Steele, and Dorothy Hieb, Safety Harbor, Fla.; five sons, August, Lawton, Okla, Frank, Braddock, Victor, Bloomington, Minn., and Benedict and William both of Steele; one brother, Victor W. Kenneth Aasen, 58, Rapid City, S.D., and formerly of Bowman, died Oct. 30, 1998, in a Rapid City hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MST at Bowman Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; one daughter, Karen Engesser, Rapid City; one son, Scott, Rapid City; three sisters, Agnes Rafferty, Helen Peters and Maxine Paulson, all of Bowman; and one brother, Roy, Bowman. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)
