Mary Helen Hilley
Mary Helen Hilley, 78, 203 E. Turnpike Ave., Bismarck, died Nov. 18, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. A memorial Mass will be held at 1-30 p.m. Monday, at the Church of Corpus Christi, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Mary Helen was a participant in the UND Deeded Body Program with burial at a later date at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

A Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, at the Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Mary Helen was born on Feb. 20, 1920, at Kansas City, Mo. to Frank S. and Kathryn (Boss) Smith. She was raised and educated in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1937. She married John Hilley, on Jan. 21, 1942 in Wibaux, Mont. Mary Helen worked in retail sales at Herbergers and most recently as a receptionist at Manhatten Life Insurance Co. She moved to St. Vincent's in August of 1998.

Mary Helen was a volunteer for St. Alexius Hospital and St. Vincent's Nursing Home. She was very active in the Catholic Daughters and served as a regent. She enjoyed reading and quilting. She was a member of Oblates, Corpus Christ Alter Society and a docent for the State Historical Society.

She is survived by her husband, John; three daughters and one son-in-law, Julie and Jeff Kubisiak, Bismarck, Jeanne Hilley, Parsippany, N.J., and Judy Hilley, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, John D. and Cathy Hilley, Buxton, and J. Patrick and Linda Hilley, Fergus Falls, Minn.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a great-grandson, Tyler Hilley.

The family prefers memorials to St. Vincent's Care Center. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Peter Link
RICHARDTON -- Peter Link, 88, Richardton, died Nov. 18, 1998, in Richardton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Saturday, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Hebron, with the Rev. Francis dos Remedios officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation begins after 5:30 p.m. MST today at the church and is ongoing until service time on Saturday. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. MST tonight at the church.

Peter Link was born on Dec. 31, 1909, in Hebron to Joseph and Christina (Mayer) Link. He was raised in rural Hebron. He attended and later graduated from Hebron High School in 1927. Following graduating he went to work in the Civilian Conservation Corps at the International Peace Gardens. Following his work with the corp, he began working at San Haven TB Hospital near Dunseith. On Oct. 22, 1938, he married Claris Bushong at Dunseith. In 1967 they moved to Washington where he was employed by the school district working in maintenance. He retired in 1972. In the early 90s he returned to Hebron to live out his remaining years.

He is survived by his wife, Claris, Kent, Wash.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronald, San Antonio, Texas, Patrick and June, Carnation, Wash.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Pothier, Hebron; and one brother, Bill Link, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joe; and three brothers, Joe, Albert and John. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Donna Conn
Donna Taylor Conn, 51, the wife of former Dickinson State University President Dr. Philip W. Conn, died Nov. 18, 1998, in a Martin, Tenn., hospital following a long bout with cancer.

A memorial service for Donna Conn will be held at 3:30 p.m. MST Friday, at Dickinson State University in Beck Auditorium on Friday.

Additionally, a fund has been established in memory of Donna Conn with the Dickinson State University Foundation. Gifts can be sent to the Dickinson State University Foundation, Dickinson State University.

Donna Conn was born in Berea, Ky., on Oct. 12, 1947. She graduated from Madison Central High School in Richmond. She attended Berea College, where she graduated in 1971, and later earned a master of science degree from Morehead State University. She was a child development specialist, working with children with special needs for 14 years in Missouri and North Dakota.

She married Philip Conn on Dec. 18, 1971, in the Berea College chapel. She had been a student worker in the Office of Alumni, where he served as Alumni Director. She moved with her husband to Frankfort, Ky., for five years, where she had three children, then to Morehead, where her fourth child was born. While in Morehead, she taught in the Bowan County school system.

The Conns moved to Warrenburg, Mo., in 1985, staying there nine years as her husband served as vice president at Central Missouri State University. She worked for the Warrensburg Public Schools in the ``Parents as Teachers" program, helping teach parents how to work with their preschool children.

In 1994, they moved to Dickinson, where Dr. Conn served as president of Dickinson State University. In Dickinson, Donna worked as coordinator of the K.I.D.S. program, working with developmentally delayed schoolchildren across western North Dakota. She was a member of the Dickinson United Methodist Church, and chaplain of chapter AD of the P.E.O. women's society.

Donna became a resident of Martin, Tenn. in July 1998 when Dr. Conn became chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Donna Conn is survived by her husband, Dr. Philip Conn, and their four children, Chad, Kansas City, Mo., Cason, Nuremberg, Germany, Cindy, Martin, Tenn., Christy, Fargo. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Austin Taylor, Berea, Ky.; and a sister, Barbara Taylor Lakes, Berea.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Taylor, Berea.

Funeral Service will be held at Westmore Church of God, Cleveland, Tenn., on Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. Dr. Paul Conn and Dr. Paul McAdoo will officiate.

A special service remembering Donna Conn will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Martin, on Nov. 20 at 10 a.m.

Walter Rost
BEACH -- Walter J. Rost, 87, Beach, died Nov. 18, 1998, in Wibaux, Mont. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Monday, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. MST at Wibaux City Cemetery in Wibaux.

Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. MST Sunday at the church. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. MST Sunday, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach, and 6 p.m. MST to service time at the church.

Walter was born on March 6, 1911, at Wibaux, a son of John and Theresa (Resch) Rost. He attended the nearby Beaver Hill School. Walter helped his dad with farming in the dry 1930s. Walter and a friend, John Margis, went to Seattle to a Diesel School and worked around there and in San Francisco and Los Angeles for a period of time. As a hobby he liked tinkering with machinery, reading and traveling on tour buses and cruise ships. Walter was married to Genevieve Schrom on Dec. 1, 1973, in Golva. Walter and Genevieve lived on the farm until moving into Beach. He continued working on the farm until 1977. He then donated the farm to Home on The Range at Sentinel Butte.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Rost, Beach.

Walter was preceded in death by one sister, Helen, who died of cancer in 1938 and his parents. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach)

Wynn Price
Wynn R. Price, 91, Bismarck, died Nov. 19, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Steven Sathre officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, and continues until the time of the service.

Wynn was born on Sept. 1, 1907, at Fessenden to Arthur and Emma Price. He was raised and educated in Fessenden. In April of 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Europe during World War II. On Nov. 22, 1944, he married Blodwin Thomas in Texas. She died in 1953. He married Gertrude H. Ischi on Dec. 19, 1953, in Moorhead. They lived in Medina and moved to Bismarck in 1954. She died on Aug. 21, 1994. He worked for Ted's Transfer and Midwest Motors. More recently, he worked for the N.D. Transportation Building. Wynn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Ann Wynette Reinhardt, Glendive, Mont., and Patricia and William Miklosey, O'Fallon, Ill.; five grandchildren, Kathy Winkely, Lisa Stagner, Amy Stagner, Sheridan and Lauran Miklosey and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his two wives; two brothers; a sister and two sons, Danny and Tommy. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Jerome Swoboda
Jerome A. Swoboda, 64, Milwaukie, Ore., and formerly of Bluegrass, died Nov. 17, 1998, in Milwaukie.

He is survived by his wife, Luella; four sons, Kerry, Everett, Wash., Kirk, Tigard, Ore., Kenny and Kelly, both of Milwaukie; four daughters, Karla, Eagle Creek, Ore., Kathy, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Kayla and Kim, both of Milwaukie; three sisters, Joanne, Beldenville, Wis., and Justine and Joyce; and two brothers, Jeff, Oshkosh, Wis., and Jelmer. Ole Greni
BOWMAN -- Ole Greni, 82, Bowman, died Nov. 18, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, at Bowman Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Bowman Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lyla; two sons, Keith, Rapid City, S.D., and Kenneth, Dickinson; two daughters, Shirley Hallman, Rosebud, Mont., and Sheryl Craig, Bowman; and one sister, Signe Kulas, Bowman. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

William Lutz
REEDER -- William Lutz, 81, Reeder, died Nov. 17, 1998, in rural Bucyrus. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Reeder Congregational Church. Burial will be in Bucyrus Cemetery.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry, Rapid City, S.D., Keith, Omaha, Neb., and Lon, Minneapolis; three brothers, Albert, New England, Ralph, Dickinson, and Marvin, Rapid City; and one sister, Irene Monke, Regent. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger)

Helen Volk
HARVEY -- Helen Volk, 94, Harvey, died Nov. 18, 1998, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by four sons, Daniel, Leo, and Anton, all of Harvey, and Leonard, Minot; two daughters, Marie Hager, Surrey, and Helen A. Volk, Harvey; and one sister, Barbara E. Fix, Harvey. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Gerda Smith
MADDOCK -- Gerda Smith, 94, Maddock, and formerly of Esmond, died Nov. 18, 1998, in the New Rockford nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Esmond. Burial will be in Vasa Lutheran Church, rural Esmond.

She is survived by one son, Gordon, rural Maddock; one daughter, Joyce Vallier, Oberon; and one sister, Esther Smith, New Rockford. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

MOTT -- Vivian L. Roster, 77, Mott, died Nov. 19, 1998, at her home.

Albert Anderson
Albert E. Anderson, 91, 929 N. 16th Street, died Nov. 19, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Glencoe Presbyterian Church, Glencoe.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today, 1-9 Saturday, and 1-9 p.m. Sunday, all at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Further arrangements are pending.

Mary Anderson
Mary V. Anderson, 89, Glasgow, Mont., died Nov. 17, 1998, in a Glasgow nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Dahlstrom Funeral Chapel, Wishek. Burial will be in Burnstad Cemetery.

Carol Bergquist
Carol L. Bergquist, 73, 1017 East Highland Acres Road, Bismarck, died Nov. 19, 1998, in her home peacefully surrounded by her family after a three year battle with cancer. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Rick Fossum and Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. at Menoken Cemetery.

Visitation will begin Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Carol L. Struwing was born on June 2, 1925, in McKenzie the daughter of Nels J. and Lois (Coffin) Struwing. She attended schools at McKenzie, Menoken and graduated from Bismarck High School and Capital Commercial College. She married Grant L. Bergquist on Oct. 16, 1959, in Bismarck. She worked for the ASCS and the North Dakota Stockman's Association for 30 years, first as a secretary and then bookkeeper. She retired in 1990.

Carol was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy in her life were her two grandchildren. Her council, example of courage and sense of humor will be deeply missed by many friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Grant; one daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Don House, Bismarck; one granddaughter, Katie House; one grandson, Thomas House, both of Bismarck; her mother, Lois Struwing, Bismarck; her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Leon Owen, Sterling; her niece and nephew-in-law, Sharon and David Lang, Sterling; three great-nieces; and two nephews, Jim and Mark Struwing, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her father; her brother, Eugene; one sister, Cleo and one nephew, Floyd.(Bismarck Funeral Home)

Rose Nordstrom Hellman Alton
JAMESTOWN -- Rose Nordstrom Hellman Alton, 68, Jamestown, died Nov. 15, 1998, in a Jamestown hospital. Burial was in Baldwin Cemetery.

Rose Marie Nordstrom was born Jan. 3, 1930, at Baldwin, the daughter of John and Nellie (Peterson) Nordstrom. She was educated in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1948. She worked for the J.C. Penney Co. and Q&R Clinic of Bismarck. She married Pete Hellman at Mandan on Nov. 17, 1952. She married Dallas Alton in 1978. He died in 1996.

Survivors include four sisters, Viola Kline, Winchester, Va., Emy Beardsley, Olympia, Wash., Ann Haas, Elgin, and Mary Weixel, Fargo; and three brothers, Robert and Gilbert, both of Bismarck, and Norman, Deerwood, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dallas; one son, Bruce Hellman; one daughter, Susan Hellman Kindsvogel; and a brother, Henry.
