James Johnson
HARVEY -- James F. Johnson, 70, Harvey, died Nov. 5, 1998, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

He was born Sept. 11, 1928, near Bowdon, the son of Oscar and Ethel (Haehn) Johnson. He was raised there and attended Bowdon schools. He farmed in the Bowdon area.

He was a member of Bowdon Lutheran Church and served on the church board. He also served on the township board. He retired from farming in 1982 and moved to Harvey. He worked for the Harvey Park Board for two years. He then began working for Wells County Aging Council as a bus driver, a position he held until his death. He married Patty Sommer, June 10, 1991. They lived in Harvey, where he was a member of First Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Ethel Johnson, Fargo; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Renee and Daryl Schuh, Hurdsfield, Peggy and Dallas White, Goodrich, and Carla Johnson, Bismarck; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bruce and Desiree, Bismarck, and Brian, Washburn; his stepsons, Ricky Sommer, Drake, Barry Sommer, Harvey; his stepdaughters, Vicky Sommer and Sandy Schwan, both of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one brother, Cliff, Crescent City, Calif.; and two sisters, Phyllis Rowell, Rothsay, Minn., and Shirley Schisel, Brillion, Wis.

He was once married to Gertrude Liedtke.

He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Robert.

Joseph Mader
Joseph L. Mader, 77, 1520 E. Divide Ave., died Nov. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bismarck Funeral Home, where vigil and prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Joseph was born March 31, 1921, in Geddes, S.D., the son of Joseph P. and Viola (Dowd) Mader. Joseph attended grade school in Dimock, S.D., and in 1938, he graduated from high school in Antigo, Wis. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942. On July 17, 1943, Joseph married Marion Jacobsen in Davis, Calif. He left the Army and worked for the Air Force in avionics as a civilian until the end of the war. In 1945, Joseph opened Bismarck TV and Radio. The business evolved into the Electronics Center in 1956, and into the Audio Systems Co. in 1961. Joseph retired in 1986.

Joseph was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed working on old tube radios and building tube amplifiers. He was a member of American Legion and the Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Lynn, Bismarck, Dale and Kathy, Andover, Minn., Lyle, Bismarck, and Bruce, Rochester Hills, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Church of St. Anne or Anne Carlson School in Jamestown.

Gideon Albrecht
DAWSON -- Gideon Albrecht, 81, Dawson, died Nov. 6, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Dawson Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Sharon Kapsch officiating. Burial will be in Dawson Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday, at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Steele, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Steele.

Gideon Albrecht was born on June 9, 1917, south of Dawson, the son of Jacob and Pauline (Hagel) Albrecht. He was raised and educated south of Dawson and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 until 1945. He fought in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II.

Gideon married Lucille Wagner on Dec. 25, 1946, at Steele. Gideon worked construction until his retirement in 1971. The Albrecht family moved to Dawson in 1965.

Gideon was a member of Dawson Lutheran Church, Dawson Park Board, Dawson Fire Department, Dawson Development Association, American Legion Post No. 72, Napoleon, and a life member of V.F.W. in Bismarck.

Gideon is survived by his wife, Lucille; his children and their spouses, Kenneth and Nadine Albrecht, Dawson, Darrell and Sandra Albrecht, Bismarck, Larry and Rennetta Albrecht, Steele, Cheryl Albrecht, Grand Forks, and Dwight and Barbara Albrecht, Shepherd, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Martha Frier and Ramona Wanner, both of Bismarck; and seven brothers, Emil Albrecht, Brigham City, Utah, Albert and Elmer Albrecht, both of Steele, Walter Albrecht, Mandan, Milbert Albrecht, Northwood, Ray Albrecht, Bismarck, and Reinhold Albrecht, Chatsworth, Calif. Helen Nichols
Helen B. Nichols, 88, Bismarck, and formerly of Mercer and Jacksonville, Fla., died Nov. 6, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with the Rev. Norman Paskowsky officiating. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Monday at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Helen Bossert was born Oct. 2, 1910 at rural Mercer to Jacob and Christina (Hofer) Bossert. She grew up and attended rural school near Mercer. In 1936 she moved to Lodi, Calif. where she married Lowell E. Nichols on May 19, 1943. They lived at Brandon, Ore., for one year and then in 1944 they moved to Jacksonville. Helen worked at a sewing factory for 12 years at Jacksonville and then was in a homemakers club and worked with the Girl Scouts teaching them to sew. Lowell died on March 20, 1995. She then moved to Bismarck to be near her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Doris Bossert, Bismarck; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Magdelena Frey, Bismarck, Lydia Wendland, Escalon, Calif., and Dinah and Francis Buckmiller, Vancouver, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell; one brother and three sisters. (Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake)

Susan Sanden
MINOT -- Susan Sanden, 39, Minot, died Nov. 5, 1998, at her home of cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

She is survived by her sons, Brent and Brian Sanden, both of Fargo; her mother, Regina Walcker, MInot; her grandfather, Ludwig Seykora, Minot; her brothers, Steven Wilhelmi, Alaska, Daniel Wilhelmi, Oregon, Jody Wilhelmi, Nevada, Randy Wilhelmi, Oregon, Brian Wilhelmi, Minot, and Jeff Wilhelmi, Mandan; and one sister, Sandy Watson, Minnesota. Matilda Seibel
CARRINGTON -- Matilda Seibel, 93, Carrington, and formerly of Bowdon, died Nov. 6, 1998, in the Carrington nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Bowdon Country Seventh Day Adventist Church, rural Bowdon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one sister, Emma Tonn, Sacramento, Calif. (Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden)

Alice Erickson
NEW ENGLAND -- Alice Erickson, 91, New England, died Nov. 6, 1998, at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Carl Nantt
DICKINSON -- Carl Nantt, 90, Dickinson, formerly of Hebron, died Nov. 7, 1998, in the Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron. Further arrangements are pending.

Jeremiah James
WILLISTON -- Jeremiah James Black, infant son of Doug and Deanne Black, Williston, was stillborn on Nov. 6, 1998, in a Williston hospital. Arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.

WILLISTON -- George E. Bingeman, 89, Williston, died Nov. 6, 1998, in a Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Fulkerson Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. Further arrangements are pending.

Kent Wood
Kent Wood, 77, Mandan, died Feb. 9, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military honors by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Stephen Eastin officiating.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Kent was born on May 8, 1920, at Saratoga, Wyo., the son of Samuel and Zula (Hull) Wood. He was raised and educated in Rawlins, Wyo., and graduated from high school there. He began his career with J.C. Penney Co. in Rawlins prior to his military service with the U.S. Navy, serving on a PT boat in the Pacific.

He married Jean Shannon in Pierpont, S.D., on June 24, 1947. They lived in many parts of the country, including Casper, Wyo., Billings, Mont., Rapid City, S.D., and Spokane, Wash., before moving to Mandan in 1957 where Kent managed the J.C. Penney store until his 1977 retirement. He and Jean then began traveling in a motor home, selling merchandise to the J.C. Penney Co. for the next 10 years.

Kent was very active in his community, serving as an elder at the Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Mandan VFW and Rotary, of which he served as president. He was also very active in the development of the Heartview Foundation. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Jean and Donald Berglund, Tucson, Ariz.; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary Kent and Denise Ann Wood, Edina, Minn.; four grandchildren, Eric Berglund, Kate Shannon Wood, Jonathon Tyler Kent Wood, and Lauren Grace Wood; one sister, Rita O'Connell, Cordes Lake, Ariz.; two brothers, Ralph Neil Wood, Magalia, Calif., and Robert L. Wood, Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Sarah Wood, Thermopolis, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Sheldon; and one sister, Peggy. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Marie Hauff
Marie Magdalene Hauff, 78, Baptist Home, Bismarck, died Feb. 8, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Revs. Wes Gerber, Ernest Schafer and Bill Keple officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today, and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, both at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Bismarck, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Marie Magdalene was born on May 16, 1919, in McClusky to Jacob and Regina (Schell) Reile. She was raised and educated in John's Lake Township in Sheridan County. On April 1, 1941, Marie married Albert Hauff in the Baptist parsonage in McClusky. The couple farmed 14 miles south of McClusky until they moved to Bismarck in 1961.

In her earlier years, Marie was a member of John's Lake Church. In Bismarck, she belonged to Washington Heights Mennonite Church and Christian Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband, Albert; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Brenda Hauff, Bismarck; one daughter, Karen Hauff, Minneapolis; two granddaughters, Chanell Alveshere, Lincoln, and Charissa Swenson, Minneapolis; two great-grandsons, Brandon and Christopher; three sisters, Ruth Schlafman, California, and Elise Sackman and Bertha Wright, both of Oregon; and one brother, Jake Reile, Bismarck. Charles LaPora
Charles T. LaPora, 89, 826 N. 12th St., Bismarck, died Feb. 9, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Peary Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday.

Charles was born Aug. 3, 1908, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Edward and Katherine (Downhous) LaPora. He was raised and educated in Sioux City and came to Bismarck in 1927. Charles married Lena Rivinius in July of 1929 in Bismarck. He worked as a mechanic for International Harvester Co. for many years and later was in business for himself performing contract work on oil equipment until his retirement.

Charles enjoyed gardening and flowers and was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck.

He is survived by his wife, Lena; one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Florian Thiring, Manchester, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Don Oleson, Royal, Iowa; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Loren and Phyllis, Redmond, Ore., and Gary and Eleanor, Divide, Colo.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Charles Skjod; one grandson, Derryl Skjod; three brothers; and one sister. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Thomas Fox
Thomas E. Fox, 78, Carmichael, Calif., and formerly of Bismarck, recently died in Carmichael. He was the beloved husband of Marion (Hessinger) Fox and the late Ida Mae Fox; loving father of Margaret Dilfer and Patricia Traugott, both of Santa Cruz, Calif., Dr. Judy Fox, Nevada City, Nev., Thomas Fox Jr., Barbara Crites, James Fox, Raymond Fox and Michael Fox, all of Sacramento, Calif.; loving brother of Claire Romack and Margaret Payne, both of Washington, D.C., Madeleine Tinker, Oceanside, Calif., Anna Weiland, Simi, Calif., and James E. Fox, Everett, Wash.; devoted grandfather of Kelly Green, Washington D.C., Patricia Green, Mexico City, Mexico, Kelly and Kevin Crites, Dylan Fox and Jordan Fox, all of Sacramento.

Mr. Fox was a former staff assistant of the U.S. Senate for 15 years, and former secretary to the governor of the Virgin Islands during World War II. He was a native of Scranton, Pa., and lived in Bismarck from about the fifth grade until he graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1938.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Carmichael. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Carmichael.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Lind Brothers Mortuary, Carmichael, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight.

Leo Krueger
FREDONIA -- Leo Krueger, 71, Fredonia, died Feb. 8, 1998, in the Wishek hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia. Burial will be in Congregational Cemetery, Kulm.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline; two sons, James, Wahpeton, and Joel, Bismarck; and two daughters, Linda Raile, Mandan, and Kimberly Buchholz, Minot; and three sisters, Emma Jerke, Ellendale, Esther Ruff, Jamestown, and Mavis Phillips, Clark Fork, Idaho. (Haut Funeral Home, Wishek)
