CENTER -- Ida Schwalbe, 90, Center, died March 3, 1998, in the Mandan nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Gay Stanley
HAZEN -- Gay Stanley, 75, Hazen, died March 4, 1998, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Robert Sommars
Robert H. Sommars, 76, Pueblo, Colo., formerly of Carrington and Williston, died Feb. 28, 1998, in Pueblo. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Adrian Comer Gardens Chapel, Pueblo, with burial of the cremated remains in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Robert Harding Sommars was born Oct. 13, 1921, in the family quarters of the Northern Pacific depot in Mercer, to Fred A. and Othelia (Sackman) Sommars. He was raised in Mercer and Carrington, and graduated from Carrington High School in 1939. In August 1940 he joined the U.S. Navy and served until August 1946. He saw service in the Pacific Theater and served on the U.S.S. Chicago and the U.S.S. Essex. Following World War II, he attended the University of Washington and Fargo Business College. He was employed by Dakota Electric serving western North Dakota and eastern Montana in the early years of the REA. In 1964 he moved to Denver, Colo., and was involved in the modular home industry. On June 3, 1950, he married Shirley Wilder of Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, Robert H. Sommars Jr., Littleton, Colo.; one grandson, Robert H. Sommars III, Parker, Colo.; four sisters, Lyla Anderson, Lorayne Bartsh, Lois Bremer and Lola Roeglin, all of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

He is survived locally by aunts, Olga Sackman, Hettinger, Nellie Just, Eureka, S.D., and Ella Lynne, Bismarck; and his cousins, Lloyd Hanson and Robert Lynne, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother.

Hazel Schmidt
HARVEY -- Hazel Schmidt, 94, Harvey, died March 3, 1998, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, with burial in Emmanual Lutheran Cemetery, Roseglen.

She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Dockter, Anamoose. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Leslie Walling
WILLISTON -- Leslie Walling, 89, Williston, died March 1, 1998, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Dale Kulseth
WILLISTON -- Dale Kulseth, 63, Williston, died March 1, 1998, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by two sons, Kelly, Watford City, and Dustin, Williston; two daughters, Penny Evanson, Williston, and Kim Kramer, Dickinson; and one sister, Jeanette Christensen, Spokane, Wash. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Lillian Galloway
BEULAH -- Lillian E. Galloway, 86, Beulah, died March 5, 1998, in a Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Kris Nyman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. MST today at Knife River Care Center, Beulah, and 2-8 p.m. MST today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Kathryn Schmidt, Emily Benner, Daniel Galloway, Joel Galloway, Joshua Galloway and Matthew Galloway.

Lillian was born July 1, 1911, at Upham, a daughter of Samuel and Amanda (Krueger) Baerwald. She was raised and educated at Egeland and Krem. Lillian worked at Trinity Hospital in Minot and was a part owner and operator of The Coffee Cup Cafe in Cando. On May 10, 1939, she married Fred Galloway at Cando. They lived in Cando until 1940 when they moved to Beach. In 1942, they moved to Beulah. She worked with her husband, Fred, as the owners and operators of Galloways Super Valu in Beulah until their retirement in 1979. Fred died Sept. 11, 1991.

Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also active in the Women's Auxiliary of the Church and was a volunteer at Beulah Community Nursing Home. Lillian enjoyed fishing with her husband.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Anita Galloway, Dickinson, and Charles and Jill Galloway, Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kathryn and Casey Schmidt, Rogers, Minn., Emily and Robert Benner, Rochester, Minn., Daniel Galloway, Henderson, Nev., Joel and Angi Galloway, North Liberty, Iowa, and Joshua and Matthew Galloway, both of Dubuque, Iowa; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ella Baszler, Underwood.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; and two sisters, Betty Weigum and Evelyn Sailer.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah Building Fund. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Orion Bruvold
HEBRON -- Orion Bruvold, 78, Hebron, died March 6, 1998, in Dickinson. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Tuesday at St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron, with the Rev. Thomas A. Zuhlke officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Hebron.

Visitation will be 4:30-9 p.m. Monday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. A prayer service will be said at 7:30 p.m. MST Monday at the funeral home.

Orion was born on Sept. 10, 1919, in rural Hebron, to Ole and Alta (Groth) Bruvold. Orion was raised in rural Hebron and attended Farmers Valley School. He attended and graduated from high school in Roberts, Mont. Following his education, he returned to the farm. He married Ruth Diede on Nov. 11, 1945, at St. John's in Hebron. Following their marriage, they raised small grains, Hereford cattle and Duroc hogs. Orion was a careful steward of the land. He had a passion for trees which he planted and cared for.

He was a 4-H leader for 34 years, a member of Farmers Valley School Board, Rural Telephone Board, the Farmers Elevator Board, St. John Church Council, Hebron Saddle Club, and North Dakota Stockmen's Association.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Bonnie and Paul Orvedahl, Richardton, Linda and Walter Borntrager, Bloomfield, Mont., Peggy and Dale Wilson, Dickinson, and Ginger Bruvold, Lake George, Colo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Linney, Boise, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Russell; and two brothers, Perry and Boyd. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Marvin Oster
JAMESTOWN -- Marvin Oster, 77, Jamestown, formerly of Hebron, died March 6, 1998, in Jamestown. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron. Burial will be in Methodist Cemetery, Hebron.

He is survived by his stepmother, Lydia Oster, Bismarck; three brothers, Edwin, Miles City, Mont., Harold Bickel, Goldendale, Wash., and LeRoy, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and four sisters, Alice Senne, Valley City, Florence Christenson, Vancouver, Wash., and Eleanor Kitzan and Shirley Oster, both of Bismarck. Dallas Job
LINTON -- Dallas E. Job, 64, Linton, died March 6, 1998, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Linton. Burial will be in the Linton Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Ben and Bertha, Linton; one brother, Melvin, Lakewood, Calif.; and two sisters, Mavis Heinz, Bismarck, and Marlene Feist, Linton. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Roland Nelson
MADDOCK -- Roland E. Nelson, 86, rural Maddock, died March 6, 1998, in a Rugby hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Klara Lutheran Church, rural Heimdal. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Frances Erpelding
Frances Erpelding, 85, 416[1/2] S. 12th St., Bismarck, died March 6, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck.

Ben Maier
LINTON -- Ben E. Maier, 62, Linton, died March 6, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Louis Pachl
DICKINSON -- Louis Pachl, 88, Billings, Mont., and formerly of Dickinson, died March 7, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Marie Schimke
HARVEY -- Marie Schimke, 91, Harvey, died March 7, 1998, in the Harvey hospital. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Regina Rushford
Regina Rushford, 94, Marillac Manor, Bismarck, died March 6, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with Regina's son, the Rev. William Rushford officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. MST at St. Mary's Cemetery, Marmarth.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue from 6-8 p.m. today at the chapel at Marillac Manor. A prayer service will be said at 7 tonight at Marillac Manor. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Regina Mathilda Bott was born June 11, 1903, at LaCrosse, Wis., the daughter of Peter and Margaret (Roth) Bott. At the age of 6, she moved with her family to Marmarth, west of Bowman, where her father was a partner in a department store known as "Zent and Bott's".

While attending high school, Regina worked at the family store, and in the post office for her father. Regina knew Leo Rushford during her school days. He worked as an engineer on the railroad. Regina and Leo were later married and had four children. Leo Rushford died in 1946 from a heart attack, when he was only 49 years old. After his death, Regina enrolled at Dickinson State University, and then transferred to North Dakota State University in Fargo. She graduated from NDSU with a degree in home economics and education in 1955. This was the same year that her son, William, was ordained as a priest in the Bismarck Diocese. Following graduation, she was a housekeeper at Visitation Rectory at Tacoma, Wash., for a year, and then became a parish housekeeper for Father William in parishes at Sentinel Butte, Ray, Underwood and Bowman. She moved to Marillac Manor in Bismarck in 1978.

Regina is survived by one son, Father William Rushford, and one daughter and son-in-law, Winnie and Woodie Wolf, all of Bismarck; one sister, Sister May Lenore, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in 1946; one brother, Romeo; two sisters, Dorothy Ahlness and Bernedette Shine; one son, Peter Rushford; and one daughter, Margaret Rushford. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Earl Weiss
Earl P. Weiss, 90, 415 N. 14th St., Bismarck, died March 6, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at noon Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Revs. Charles Heidt and John Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a prayer vigil will be said at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Earl was born Dec. 2, 1907, in Greene, Iowa, the son of Herman and Clara (Ramker) Weiss. He was raised and educated in Iowa. He then went to Mankato Business College, where he met his wife to be, Hazel Baker. Earl and Hazel were married on Oct. 13, 1928, in Hazelton. Following their marriage, they moved to the Baker farm in Hazelton, where they lived for five years. They moved to Bismarck, where Earl worked for North Dakota Highway Department and later worked for Northern Pacific Railroad until his retirement.

He loved to garden and do woodworking.

Earl is survived by his wife, Hazel; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Neil Fricke, and Kathryn and Lyle Bickel, all of Bismarck, and Patricia and Jack Drumheller, Bozeman, Mont.; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Earl and Betty, St. Charles, Mo., Robert and Millie, Deer River, Minn., Frederick and Sandy, Fort Collins, Colo., Paul, Churchton, Md., and Kerry and Michele, Huntingtown, Md.; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace and Christine, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

The family prefers memorials to Cancer Research.

Raymond Lapp
HEBRON -- Raymond Lapp, 60, formerly of Hebron, died March 4, 1998, in Baldwin, Mich., one day before his 61st birthday, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by two sisters, Betty Schilling, Glen Ullin, and Shirley Enzie, Dickinson; and two brothers, Bill and Arnie, Bismarck.

Ernest Luer
JAMESTOWN -- Ernest Luer, 68, Jamestown, died March 4, 1998, in a Bullhead City, Ariz. hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today and Tuesday, both at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Ernest Robert Luer was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Jamestown, the son of Ernest A. and Anna (Schmidt) Luer. He was educated in schools in North Dakota, Minnesota and California, as his family moved to different construction sites. He returned to Jamestown as a teen-ager, where he worked in the cattle stock yards and then for the W.H. Noel Construction Company in Jamestown. Ernest entered the U.S. Army in October 1951, and served in Korea with the Army Corps of Engineers. He and Louella Schiable were married in Moorhead, Minn., on Dec. 27, 1951. Following his discharge from the service in 1953, he returned to Jamestown and worked for the W.H. Noel Co. during the summer months and during the winter months, was a tour bus driver for Farmers Union. He worked as an asphalt superintendent for Northern Construction Co. of Hutchinson, Kan., for 2[1/2] years as a job coordinator and supervisor before retiring. During his working years, he was one of the developers of the Drum Drier Asphalt Process and helped invent an automated asphalt weight silo system. He is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records for laying the largest amount of asphalt in one day. He and Louella have wintered in Bullhead City, Ariz., for the last 27 years.

Ernest was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Jamestown, Jamestown Eagles Club, Jamestown Elks, and the Jamestown American Legion. He also belonged to Hillcrest Mens Association was very active in many of the clubs activities.

He is survived by his wife, Louella; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Terry, Odessa, Texas, Garth, Beulah, and Scott, Wahpeton; and one daughter and son-in-law, Lezlie and Clyde Grosz, Hazen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and five sisters. He was the last of his family. (Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown)

Rudolph Wetzel
GLEN ULLIN -- Rudolph Wetzel, 79, Glen Ullin, died March 8, 1998, in a Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held 10 a.m. MST Wednesday, at Bethel Assembly of God, Glen Ullin, with the Revs. Chris Walstad, Art Wetzel and Bill Oberlander officiating.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. MST Tuesday, at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. A prayer service will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Rudolph was born Feb. 9, 1909, in Glen Ullin to Henry and Christina (Strauss) Wetzel. He was raised and educated in rural Glen Ullin and took up farming following his education. He married Lydia Huber on March 6, 1945. Following their marriage, they farmed and raised cattle. They moved into Glen Ullin in 1972, but continued to farm from town. Lydia died on May 30, 1984. He married Grace Svihl on Aug. 12, 1988. Following their marriage, they resided in Glen Ullin. Rudolph retired in 1994. He entered the Marian Manor Nursing Home in July of 1996, where he has resided since.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Janice, New Salem; one daughter, Joyce Hoffer, New Salem; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Florence Huber and Bertha Klein, both of Glen Ullin, and Irene Schnaidt, Hebron; and six brothers, Henry, Hezen, Peter, Marvin, Clarence and Eddie, all of Glen Ullin, and Oscar, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lydia; and two brothers, Alvin and Paul. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)
