Merrylee Petryszyn
Merrylee Petryszyn, 77, Bismarck, died Oct. 29, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

Merrylee Coffin was born May 15, 1920, in Golden Valley, the daughter of Jacob and Elgia (Lawrence) Coffin. She was raised on a farm near Golden Valley before moving with her family to Mandan, where she attended schools.

She graduated from Christie Beauty School, and worked as a beautician in Bismarck and Mandan.

She married John Petryszyn on Sept. 26, 1942, in Forsyth, Mont. They lived in St. Paul and in Ohio before returning to Bismarck in 1946. John died in 1985.

Merrylee was very busy raising her family, to whom she devoted her life and work. Her family meant everything to her and her greatest moments were with her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Leslie of Alexandria, Minn., Kenneth and Bonnie ofMandan, David of Bismarck and Robert and Deb of Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Evie and Paul Klemetson of Bismarck, Kathleen and Jeff Looney of Malakoff, Texas, and Mary Ellen and Tim Pull of Colfax; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Grace Jahner of Bismarck and Helen Klaudt of Kansas City, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Ronald; two brothers, Clarence and Milfred "Mo"; and one sister, Myrt Starr. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Annie Demaniow
DICKINSON -- Annie Demaniow, 86, Dickinson, died Nov. 19, 1997, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday, at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield. Further arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Joe A. Hondl
DICKINSON -- Joe A. Hondl, 97, Dickinson, died Nov. 20. 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST today, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters, Leona Jilek, Belfield, and Jane Anton, Dickinson; one son, Eugene, Dickinson; and one sister, Stacie Kostelecky, Dickinson. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Albert Lang
NAPOLEON -- Albert Lang, 76, Napoleon, died Nov. 20, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Sterling. Further arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Hugh Howie Jr.
BELFIELD -- Hugh Howie Jr., 81, Belfield, died Nov. 19, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Daglum Lutheran Church, south of South Heart. Burial will be at 11 a.m. MST Monday, at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; three daughters, Deb Howie, Dickinson, Doreen Kovar, New England, and Kim Howie, Belfield; and two sons, Doug, Bismarck, and Don, New England. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Elsie Weisz
HALLIDAY -- Elsie Weisz, 89, Halliday, died Nov. 20, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MST Monday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Halliday. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Leo Germann
RHAME -- Leo O. Germann, 65, Rhame, died Nov. 19, 1997, in a Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Bowman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline; four sons, Darwin and Mike, both of Rhame, Edwin, Ennis, Mont., and Bruce, Burnsville, Minn.; three daughters, Rose Bergquist, Bowman, Joleen Riley, Plano, Texas, and Wanda Heick, Bowman.; three sisters, Marion Silbernagel, Bowman, Rosemarie Barkart, Riverside, Calif., and Clara Heiser, Dickinson; and four brothers, Ray and Norbert, both of Bowman, Robert, Glendive, Mont., and Richard, Adair, Okla. Arlouine Fjeldheim
Arlouine Fjeldheim, 82, Polluck, S.D., died Nov. 20, 1997, in a Mobridge nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Polluck Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, near Polluck.

She is survived by seven sons, Orland, Herreid, S.D., Earl, Herreid, Ernie, Mound City, S.D., Larry, Herreid, Andy Jr., Polluck, Alvin, Polluck, and James, Polluck; and one daughter, Evelyn Quenzer, Central City, S.D. (Larson's Funeral Home, Mobridge)

Michael Voegele
Michael Voegele, 92, Apple Valley, Minn., died Nov. 20, 1997, in an Apple Valley nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, Apple Valley. Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery, Cedar, Minn.

He is survived by his wife, Emma; three sons, Allen, Apple Valley, William, Cedar, and John, East Bethel, Minn.; three daughters, Sandra Wilson, Minnetonka, Minn., Barbara, Washington, D.C., and Alice Nelson, Lino Lakes, Minn.; and one brother, Fred, Bismarck. (Henry W. Mortuary, Apple Valley)

Ross Berdahl
CARRINGTON -- Ross K. Berdahl, 41, Carrington, died Nov. 19, 1997, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington. Burial will be in Carrington Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his parents, G.A. and Lavon Berdahl, Albany, Ore.; two brothers, Todd, Corvallis, Ore., and Tim, Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Alice Bober, Corvallis; two grandmothers, Agnes Long, Minot, and Margaret Berdahl, Corvallis. (Evans Funeral Home, Carrington)

Albert Ohm
BOWMAN -- Albert J. Ohm, 98, Bowman, died Nov. 20, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at Bowman Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Bowman Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Durwood, Bismarck. (Krebsbach Funeral Home, Bowman)

Ethelyn Lucia
Ethelyn F. "Tillie" Lucia, 81, Marion, Wis., died Nov. 19, 1997, in an Appleton, Wis., hospital following a lingering illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marion, with the Rev. Michael Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery, Marion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, both at Rhodes and Beil Funeral Home, Marion.

The former Ethelyn F. Sprenger was born Sept. 29, 1916, at Marion, Wis., and was the daughter of the late Frank and Emma (Herman) Sprenger. Tillie was a graduate of Marion High School, and attended cosmetology school. She married Francis "Frank" Lucia on Sept. 29, 1936. The couple owned and operated Lucia's Tavern in Marion for over 40 years. Mr. Lucia died July 3, 1974.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marion, and was a past member of St. Mary Christian Mothers. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Allan Knetter, Medina, and Kathy and Tom Turnure, Arrowbear, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Tillie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Gladys Irene.

Lorraine Hardmeyer
Lorraine Hardmeyer, 77, formerly of Mott, died Nov. 21, 1997, at her home of cancer at Woman Lake, near Longville, Minn. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Mott.

Among her survivors is her husband, Ted, a longtime Mott resident, now living at Woman Lake. Further arrangements are pending.

Larry Henderson
FARGO -- Larry Henderson, 53, Fargo, died Nov. 21, 1997, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Calvin.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his mother, Lila Henderson of Devils Lake; two sons, Ward of Fargo and Wyatt of San Francisco; one brother, Terrell of Calvin; and one sister, Sharon Eickenbrock of Devils Lake. (Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo)

Dorothy Linzbach
GRAND FORKS -- Dorothy Linzbach, 91, Grand Forks, died Nov. 21, 1997, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

She is survived by two sons, LouVerne of Washburn and Neale of Littleton, Colo.; one daughter, Jenell Oberlander of Dickinson; and one sister, Eunice Hartenberger of Rockton, Ill. (Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks)

Byron Mortenson
WILLISTON -- Byron R. Mortenson, 66, Williston, died Nov. 21, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Williston. Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Crosby. Futher arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.

Leo Nagel
HEIL -- Leo E. Nagel, 72, Heil, died Nov. 22, 1997, at the Elgin hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; one son, Wayne of Heil; two daughters, Darla Nagel of Heil and Wanda Zimmerman of Banner, Wyo; and two sisters, Bernice Neumann of Denver and Florence Busch of Spokane, Wash. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

Elsie Weisz
HALLIDAY -- Elsie Weisz, 89, Halliday, died Nov. 20, 1997, at the Dickinson hospital. Services will be 1:20 p.m. MST Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Halliday. Burial will be in Halliday Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Victor and Larry, both of Halliday; four sisters, Hertha Keller of Oregon City, Ore., Ruth Walker of Newberg, Ore., and Alma Isaak and Irene Backfish, both of Golden Valley; and one brother, Richard Breitling of Verndale, Minn. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Charles Holzer
Charles M. "Chuck" Holzer, 56, 418 W. Reno Ave., Bismarck, died Nov. 22, 1997, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Chuck was born Aug. 18, 1941, at Hague, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Mastel) Holzer. He was raised and educated in Linton. He came to Bismarck in 1958, and worked at a local service station. In 1965, he opened his own service station. Years later, he started several businesses, including Chuck's Towing from 1976 to 1987, and Chuck's LowBoy Service from 1986 to 1991.

He enjoyed serving the community with his towing business. In his earlier years he participated in demolition derbys and racing stock cars. In his later years, he was an avid race car fan, and was instrumental in starting the Missouri Valley Speedway, which he managed from 1992 to 1996. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, Disney World being one of his favorites.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Moose Club, Missouri Valley Fair Association and Missouri Valley Stock Car Association.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Sean Flaherty, Maple Grove, Minn., and Sharon and Greg Morrell, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Chuck Jr. and Bernie Holzer, Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas and Timothy Holzer, and Austin, Tait and Tyler Ressler, and Elizabeth Flaherty; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Tony and Rose Holzer and Ann Holzer, all of Linton, Mike and Cindy Holzer, and Eugene and Pat Holzer, all of Mandan; his mother-in-law, Gloria Kaiser; and seven brothers and eight sisters-in-law, Char Gartner, Richard and Maxine Kaiser, Cheryl and Karl Van Orman, and Connie and Terrel Tausend, all of Mandan, Chuck and Sharon Kaiser, Don and Trina Kaiser, Randy and Wendy Kaiser, all of Bismarck, and Colleen Nies, Breckenridge, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul; four infant brothers; and seven infant sisters. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Paul Kurtz
HAZELTON -- Paul W. Kurtz, 71, Hazelton, died Nov. 23, 1997, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hazelton Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ben Dove officiating. Burial will be in Hazelton Cemetery, with military rites provided by Hazelton American Legion.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and from 9-11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to services at the church, Friday.

Paul was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Bismarck, the son of Paul V. and Lina (Mandigo) Kurtz. He attended Hazelton grade school and Hazelton High School until 1943, and graduated from agricultural college in Crookston, Minn. in 1944. He returned home to farm in a partnership with his brother, Calvin. He entered the U.S. Army July 7, 1951, and served in Korea during the Korean War. After his discharge on May 11, 1953, he returned to Hazelton and married Delphine Smith on Feb. 26, 1956, in Bismarck. They made their home on a farm, where they raised their four children.

In the 1950s and 1960s he raced the family's thoroughbred horses in country fairs and rodeos throughout the state of North Dakota. He was very instrumental in organizing the Hazelton rodeo from 1947 to 1970. In 1983, he and his brother celebrated their 100-year centennial family farm.

He served as president of the Hazelton Credit Union for more than 30 years, as a past president of Hazelton Farmer's Union Oil Company for many years, and was a member of the Hazelton American Legion.

Paul enjoyed raising livestock and actively farmed until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Delphine; one son, Paul S., Hazelton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elaine and Richard Malsam, and Natalie and William Gunnerson, all of Bismarck, and Carol Southwood, Mandan; four grandchildren, Jennifer Kurtz, Lindsay Malsam, Emily Gunnerson and Kylee Southwood; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Jack Dresner, Pamona, Calif., and Beverly and Dirk DenBaars, Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Calvin. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Chris Christmann
Chris H. Christmann, 75, lifelong Adams County farmer, rancher and conservationist, died Nov. 21, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 MST a.m. today at United Methodist Church, Hettinger. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. CST, with full military rites.

Christian H. Christmann was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Adams County, and other than service time during World War II, farmed and ranched the family's original homestead. He married Bonnie Dresden in Hettinger on June 11, 1947.

He had served as president of the State Association of Conservation Districts as well as many local boards and commissions in Adams County.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debra Christmann, Maple Grove, Minn., and Rebecca and Jon Dahl, Madison, Wis.; two grandsons, Andrew and Eric, Madison; five brothers; four sisters; and a host of friends and associates.
