Walter Bauer
Walter Bauer, 82, Monticello, Minn., and formerly of Steele, died Feb. 13, 1998, in a Monticello nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Monticello, with the Rev. Marc Maue officiating. A service will also be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Steele, with the Rev. Thomas Krupich officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Steele.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to each service at each church.

Walter was born on Feb. 16, 1915 in Napoleon, to Andrew and Martha (Redman) Bauer. He attended school at Napoleon and as a young man was employed as a farm laborer and truck driver. On Jan. 14, 1941, he was one of the first volunteers from Logan County to enlist in the Army.

He was a member of H.Q. Infantry Armored Corps and saw action in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Rome, and southern France. He received the Bronze Star. He also served as a chauffeur for Colonel Meuller and General Patton. He was discharged July 2, 1945. He was a member of American Legion Mode, Sherman Post of Steele.

On Aug. 17, 1946 he married Kathryn Rohrich in Tappen. In January of 1947, the couple moved to a farm in Excelsior Township near Steele. In April 1949, they moved to Napoleon where he owned and operated a truck line for four years. He was also employed at Napoleon Farmers Elevator for two years. In November 1954 he bought and moved to a farm in Vernon Township, 11 miles northeast of Steele.

He served on the Vernon Township Board for many years. He retired in 1981 and moved into Steele. Since October 1995, he and his wife have made their home in Monticello.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; four children, Susan and Mike Benedetto, Charles and Yvette Bauer, Donald and Delphine Bauer, and Carol and Gary Smith, all of Monticello; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Albert and Phyllis Bauer, Hopkins, Minn; and one sister, LaVern and Ray Frank, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gideon and Ray; and one sister, Bernice Bratz. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Steele, and Peterson-Grismo Chapel, Monticello)

John McLaughlin
FORT YATES -- John McLaughlin, 86, Fort Yates, died Feb. 12, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. James Catholic Church, Porcupine. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Further arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

James Duffy
James J. Duffy, 96, 1807 Schafer Street, Bismarck, died Feb. 12, 1998, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Peary Wilson officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 1326, at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, at Boelter Funeral Home Chapel, and for one hour prior to services at the church. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, at Boelter Funeral Home Chapel, Bismarck.

James was born July 16, 1901 in Philadelphia, Penn., to James and Mary (Ivans) Duffy. His mother's death, 18 months later, left him with relatives until about 1912, when he came to Sanborn. He continued school, doing odd jobs and worked at the Bank of Sanborn and later the First National Bank in Fargo. In 1923, he returned east and worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Fairmount Park Police and Insurance Co. of America. He married and had one son and daughter. Moving to Bismarck in 1936, he worked for the Highway Department and PSC until enlisting in the Army in 1942.

Serving in Africa, France and Germany, he returned to the U.S. in 1947, went to Military Police School at Carlisle, Penn., and was stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco, where he met Captain Mildred S. Carter. They married in the Presidio Chapel on June 23, 1949. Returning from Korea in 1952, Jim left the service a first lieutenant, had received the Bronze Star and been made an honorary member of the French Foreign Legion.

Jim and family then moved to Bismarck, where he worked again with the highway department and the post office, retiring in 1969.

After retiring, he volunteered at the Bismarck Senior Citizens Center, served on the management board of the Housing Authority of Burleigh County, Bismarck Senior Citizens Center management board, and the board of directors of the Burleigh Council on Aging.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 5, Scottish Rite, El Zagal Temple and McCabe United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Millie; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Lawrence Green, Fairhope, Ala.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Nola Duffy, Houston, Texas, Jim and Caroline Duffy, Portal, and Ed and Pam Duffy, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Mary; and one brother, John.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Christian Children's Fund.

Lisa Van Oosting
CENTER -- Lisa Lynn Van Oosting, infant daughter of William and Deadre Van Oosting, Center, died Feb. 13, 1998, in a Minneapolis hospital. A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Lisa Lynn Van Oosting was born Feb. 3, 1998 in MedCenter One Hospital in Bismarck. After suffering complications she was transferred to Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis.

She is survived by her parents, William and Deadre Van Oosting, Center; and her grandmothers, Madge Van Oosting, Bismarck, and Karen Hubert, Silverton, Ore.

Her family prefers memorials to the Kidney Foundation. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn)

Ida Sundet
MADDOCK -- Ida N. Sundet, 95, rural Maddock, died Feb. 13, 1998, in a Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Pearl Sundet, Wilson. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

John Prouty
UNDERWOOD -- John Leonard Prouty, 91, Underwood, died Feb. 13, 1998, in an Underwood nursing home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Augustana Lutheran Church, Underwood. Burial will be in Underwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood, and for one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

John Leonard Prouty was born on March 22, 1906, on his fathers homestead 12 [1/2] miles northeast of Underwood, in Linder Township. His eighth grade education was at the he married Lucille Engler at Wilton. They made their home on the family farm later purchasing it. They farmed and ranched until 1958, when they moved into Underwood.

He was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Farmers Union, 24 year member of Underwood Senior Citizens Center, and he enjoyed song fests around the piano with his daughters, playing cards, and gardening.

He is survived by wife, Lucille, Underwood; two daughters and one son-in-law, Georgia and Glenn Hoberg, River Falls, Wis., and Irene Kelly, Twin Falls, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; five sisters; one great-granddaughter, Brenda Allen; and one son-in-law, Keith Kelly.

Duane Miller
Duane R. Miller, 59, 3197 County Road No. 139, Mandan, died Feb. 13, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Austin Vetter officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, where a Moose Ritual will begin at 7 p.m. tonight, followed by a rosary and then a vigil service.

Duane was born on Nov. 5, 1938, in Mandan, the son of Frank and Mary (Devine) Miller. Duane attended school in the Mandan area. He married Judy Goehring on Feb. 13, 1971 in Bismarck. Duane drove a truck for many years for Transport, Inc. and Super Valu. He had thousands of accident-free miles to his credit.

Duane very much enjoyed playing cards with whomever he could talk into a game or playing card games on the computer. Duane's first love was raising his range cattle. He also enjoyed riding his four wheeler and spending time with his granddaughter, Brittany.

He was a life member of the Mandan Moose Lodge and also a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church of Crown Butte.

Duane is survived by his wife, Judy; one daughter and son-in-law, Danette and Kerby Hausauer, Bismarck; two sons, Kevin and Larry, both of Mandan; a very special little granddaughter, Brittany; his mother, Mary Miller, New Salem; one sister and brother-in-law, Jeannette and Tom Frohlich, Mandan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James A. and Marie Miller, Bismarck, and Kenneth "Bud" and Beno Miller, Mandan; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Schrenk, Bismarck; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Sharren Goehring, Menoken; special friends, the Roehrich family; and several nieces and nephews who were all special to him.

Duane was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law and mother-in-law. (Eastgate Funeral Service)

George Boehm
STRASBURG -- George Boehm, 85, Strasburg Nursing Home, Strasburg, died Feb. 14, 1998, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring.

George was born Nov. 18, 1912 in rural northwest Mandan, the son of Louis and Francis (Schlosser) Boehm. He raised his six younger brothers and sisters when his mother died in childbirth on the family farm west of Mandan.

George married Eva Berger. They farmed west of Mandan until they moved to Bismarck, where George worked for the North Dakota Highway Department, until he retired.

George's pride and joy were his three children and nine grandchildren. George loved to dance and to visit with his many friends.

George is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Doris Boehm, Bismarck, and Jim and JoAnne Boehm, Elgin; one daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Morris Tschider, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John, Adam, and Jack; and two sisters, Isabelle and Mary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eva; his brother, Pete Boehm; and his great grandson, Lance Boehm. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Lawrence Lenaburg
Lawrence "Larry" Lenaburg, 88, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died Feb. 13, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Stenslie officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Monday, at the funeral home.

Lawrence was born Nov. 26, 1909, the youngest of 17 children at Lake Benton, Minn., the son of Herman and Emma Lenaburg. He was raised and educated in rural Ryder. Larry married Emilie Hutchinson in 1939. Following their marriage, they lived in Salem, Ore. for five years during World War II. They then returned to North Dakota living in numerous place before moving to Bismarck where he has lived for the last 30 years.

He managed a couple different grain elevators before being a carpenter for most of his life.

Larry loved to bowl and was also a baseball fan.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Marylee; two sisters, Lilas Lessig and Ethel Hellbusch, both of Salem, Ore.; three grandchildren, John, Tom and Tracy; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Joey, Laura, Sarah and Riley.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emilie; and 14 brothers and sisters.

The family prefers memorials to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Stanley Wald
LINTON -- Stanley M. Wald, 81, Linton, died Feb. 15, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Marlene Ruppert
BOWMAN -- Marlene P. Ruppert, 63, Bowman, died Feb. 15, 1998, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Bowman, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Gene; one son, Scott, Bowman; one daughter, Marilyn Noreen, Bowman; two sisters, Marva Anderson, Bismarck, and Carol Erickson, Oxford, Wis.; and one brother, Bruce Anderson, Bowman. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Ida Sundet
MADDOCK -- Ida N. Sundet, 95, Maddock, died Feb. 13, 1998, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock, with burial in the church cemetery. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Gladys Heihn
Gladys Heihn, 84, Bismarck, died Feb. 14, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Agnes Brokofsky
TURTLE LAKE -- Agnes K. Brokofsky, 80, Turtle Lake, died Feb. 15, 1998, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, Turtle Lake, with burial in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

She is survived by one brother, Earl Brokofsky, West Fargo. (Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake)

Alec Lausen
BEULAH -- Alec Lausen, 19, Beulah, died Feb. 13, 1998, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident south of Beulah. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. A vigil will begin at 7 tonight at the church.

He is survived by his parents, Ron and Ellen, Beulah; his grandmothers, Bertha Lausen, Wahpeton, and Meta Kachmarik, Mesick, Miss.; his siblings, Ronald and Rosie Lausen, Carlin, Nev., Teresa and David Nelson, Spring Creek, Nev., Tami Lausen, Bitburg, Germany, Mark Lausen, Espanola, N.M., David and Krista Lausen, Gillette, Wyo., Chad Lausen, Carrington, Erin Lausen, Minneapolis, and John Lausen, Beulah; three nieces, Chrystal and Courtney Nelson, and Lisa Lausen; one nephew, Jose Lausen; and his very special girlfriend, Ammie Ziegler, Beulah.
