JAMESTOWN -- H.F. Buegel, 71, Jamestown, died Sept. 15, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Further arrangements are pending with Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Leo Erickson
WILLISTON -- Leo Erickson, 87, Williston, died Sept. 13, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Donald Tahran
JAMESTOWN -- Donald W. Tahran, 51, Jamestown, died Sept. 15, 1998, in a Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife, Jill; one son, Donald Tahran Jr., Valley City; and two brothers, Alan and Stan Tahran, both of California. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Mary Ann Johnson
ALEXANDER -- Mary Ann Johnson, 73, Alexander, died Sept. 14, 1998, in a Williston hospital. Arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Marie Luziak
MCKENZIE -- Marie Luziak, 77, McKenzie, died Sept. 12, 1998. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Hildegard's Church, Menoken, with the Rev. John Owens officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said tonight at 7 p.m. in the Eastgate Funeral Chapel.

Marie Ivanovna Chawro Luziak was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Khorobrov, Kozovsky in West Ukraine, to Ivan Ilyich Chawro and Marie Mikhaylovna Rad. She grew up and was educated in that area. On Oct. 2, 1945, she married Joanes (John) Luziak in Nuremburg, German. John and Marie emigrated to the United States in 1949, coming to the Solen area. John and Marie worked on ranches in this area and moved to McKenzie in the sixties. They became American citizens in 1958 and highly valued that privilege. John passed away in 1974.

John and Marie had no children, but her love for children was so obvious that she became the "other" Grandma to several families in the McKenzie area. Marie worked as a housekeeper and cook. Marie maintained her home and yard with great care. Her beautiful flowers were a source of pride and perhaps comfort to a lady that had no remaining family. She will be missed by the friends that loved her.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Archie Seebart
Archie Seebart, 83, 1115 N. 16th St., died Sept. 14, 1998, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Jeannette Hickman and Larry Hickle officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Archie Seebart, the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Seebart, was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Lakota. He attended school in Lakota and graduated from high school in 1933. He enrolled in the North Dakota Agricultural College where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity serving as president and house manager. He was also business manager for the Bison Yearbook and president of the Board of Publications. After graduating, in 1939, he taught Vo-Ag at Larimoure. In 1941, he joined the Farm Security staff at Valley City, he was promoted to County Supervisor and moved to Cooperstown.

In 1943, Archie was inducted into the Army and served in both Europe and Japan. He was discharged in 1946 as a master sergeant. In January 1948, he married Donna Mae Krekow of Streeter. He was promoted to the state staff of the FmHA and moved to Bismarck on Jan. 1, 1950. He worked with the FmHa until his retirement in 1974 after 33 years.

Archie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was an elder in his church for 18 years and a lay preacher for 12 years. He represented area churches in the National General Assembly and Synod Gathering.

He was Past Commander of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Archie was active in the Legion's "Open Your Heart" program for approximately 45 years, 20 of which he was chairman of the permanent committee. He also participated in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a member of the Bismarck Board of Adjustments and the Board of Directors of Sunset Memorial Gardens. He enjoyed family, Big Band music, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Carol Seebart and Kevin Holfelner, Hancock, N.H.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Corrine, Laramie, Wyo., and Gregory and Mary, Denver, Colo.; one brother, Frank, Lakota; two grandchildren, Landon and Cassie Seebart; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred Brayton and Bernice Ludke; and one brother, Harry. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Barbara Joyce
Barbara C. Joyce, 87, 228 W. Turnpike Ave., Bismarck, died Jan. 25, 1998, at her home. Services will be held at 1-30 p.m. Wednesday at Church of Corpus Christi, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a rosary and vigil service will be said at 7 tonight.

Barbara Barth was born on Dec. 29, 1910, in Mandan, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Jochim) Barth. She grew up and attended school in Mandan. On Sept. 19, 1933, she married Patrick Joyce in Mandan. The couple made their home in Bismarck, where they raised four children. Mr. Joyce died in May of 1986.

Barbara worked at Woolworth's, Chateau Inn, The Pancake House, St. Alexius Hospital and the Holiday Inn.

She was a very caring mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Lyla, Tim and Alice, all of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steve Jahner, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren, Mike, Rick, Nancy and Mark Joyce, Kelly Rixen, Jim and Don Joyce, Stephanie, Scott, and Marcie Jahner, Joyce George, Tracee Edick, Lloyd, Patrick, Preston, Lonnie and Joey Joyce; 10 great-grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathon Thomas Rixen, Jamie Joyce, Jenny, Josh and Jeremy Schutt, Brittany and Brandy George, and Bobby Edick; and one sister, Eva Leingang, Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; one son, Dennis; three brothers; and five sisters. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Rick Bowerman
DAWSON -- Rick Charles Bowerman, 49, Dawson, died Jan. 25, 1998, in the Steele nursing home from brain cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Robinson School Gymnasium, Robinson, with the Rev. Waldemar Storm officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, Robinson.

Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the gymnasium.

Rick was born in Bismarck, on April 1, 1948, the son of Charles and Merna (Wick) Bowerman. He married Sarah Rothstein in May of 1974, and with their two children, Michael, 17, and Kelsey, 10, they have resided on the home farm which is located 12 miles southeast of Robinson.

Rick was a man who loved the land, and he was the happiest when he was with his brother and friends visiting about farming. He was active in the Robinson community, where he was a longtime Lion's member, school board member, and past president of the Robinson Community Development Corporation.

He will forever be remembered for his goodness and true kindness to everyone he encountered.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah; two children, Michael and Kelsey; his mother, Merna Bowerman, Robinson; his brother and family, Bob, LaDonna, Brock, Brett and Brietta, Dawson; his sister and family, Debra, Virgil, Marissa and Grant, Washburn; his uncle, Galen, and his wife, Lucille, Dawson; and all his relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bowerman. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck and Steele)

Harvey Rickert
Harvey J. Rickert, 61, of Felton, Minn., and Bismarck, died Jan. 25, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Minn., the Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service and from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday at the Moorhead church.

Mr. Rickert will born Sept. 27, 1936, at Brownton, Minn., the son of Raymond and Hildred (Husfelt) Rickert. He was raised and educated at Brownton.

He married Janet Quast Aug. 7, 1956, at Lester Prairie, Minn. They lived in a number of places until moving to Fargo in 1964. He owned several businesses in the Fargo area and got into the sanitation business in 1977.

In 1988, he purchased Dakota Sanitation in Bismarck and has since been spending time between his home in Felton and his Bismarck home. He was an active member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Moorhead. His wife, Janet, died Feb. 11, 1989.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Wayne Offerdahl of Fargo; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kim Rickert and Mark and Candy Rickert, all of Moorhead; his fiance, Peggy Becker of Mandan; his father, Raymond Rickert of Browntown; two brothers, Wayne Rickert and his wife, Shirley, of Osaska, and Verl Rickert of Brownton; five grandchildren, Mandy Rickert, Brandy Rickert, Niki Rickert, Tony Rickert and Alexa Schauer, and one great-granddaughter, LeAnna Maria Vera.

Mathias Berger
CENTER -- Mathias "Matt" Berger, 93, Center, died Jan. 25, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. CST Wednesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Center, with the Revs. Austin Vetter and Jeff Wald officiating. Burial will be in Center Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, at the church, where a St. Anthony Verein Rosary and vigil service will be said at 7 tonight.

Mathias was born on March 25, 1904, at Rosebud, the son of Nickodemus and Franziska (Buschell) Berger. Raised and educated in the area, he married Regina Pfliger in 1924. He farmed south of Center for most of his life, and married Rose Geiss in 1940.

He was a member of St. Anthony Verein and Center Golden Age Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elizabeth Hazel, Edith and Gene Albers, Frances and Ben Fuchs, and Katherine and John Kautzman; one son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Cleora; 16 grandchildren; and one stepbrother, Mike Gratz.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; three children, Peter, Lorraine and Mary Ann; four brothers, Stanley, Yatsin, Philip and Mike; two sisters, Rose Fried, and Eva Schwartz; and one step-brother, Ralph Gratz.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

Henry Walker
Henry Owen Walker, 59, Gillette, Wyo., and formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 20, 1998, in a Gillette hospital of natural causes. Services were held Jan. 26, 1998, at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Franko officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.

Services were also held in Gillette on Jan. 23, 1998.

Henry Owen Walker was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Bismarck to Frank John and Ella (Fode) Walker. He was raised and educated in Bismarck the surrounding areas. He worked various construction jobs as a young man and entered the U.S. Army in 1955, serving in Korea until being honorably discharged in 1957.

He married June M. Wilson on Oct. 17, 1959, in Bismarck. They remained in Bismarck until moving to Upland, Ind., in 1973. They later moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1977 and to Gillette in 1979.

He helped build the Buckskin and Coal Creek coal mines in the Gillette area.

He belonged to the Moose Lodge in Indiana and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and building just about anything.

He is survived by his wife, June M., Gillette; three sons, Owen Henry Walker, Bismarck, Frank Lee and Jay C. Walker, both of Gillette; one daughter, Laura Ann Luciano, Wichita Falls; six grandchildren; his mother, Ella Scheidt, Bismarck; one brother, Frank Walker, Bismarck; two sisters, Shirley Bender, Bismarck, and Betty Allen, Mineral Wells, Texas; three stepbrothers, Eddie Scheidt, Colorado Springs, Colo., Herman Scheidt, Citrus Heights, Calif., and Lawrence Scheidt, Bismarck; and one step-sister, Christine Helford, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Edward R. Scheidt; and one stepbrother, Emil Scheidt. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Virginia Boeckl
Virginia "Mickey" Boeckl, 70, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., died Jan. 14, 1998, in Michigan. Services were held on Jan. 17, 1998, at St. Thomas Moore Church, Bloomfield Hills.

Virginia Murrey was born Sept. 12, 1927, the daughter of Stanley and Agnes (Partyke) Murrey. She graduated from Bismarck High School and also from Nursing School in Milwaukee. On May 29, 1954, she married William Boeckl.

She is survived by her husband, William, Bloomfield Hills; one daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Mark Thomas, Troy, Mich.; one son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Joanna Boeckl, Bloomfield Hills; two brothers, Duane, Hayden, Idaho, and Jerry, Regan; four sisters, Sister Michael Murrey, Eau Clair, Wis., Donna Mautz, Garrison, and Delores Murrey and Elbie Matthiesen, both of Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.

Maggie Schell
Maggie Schell, 86, Lemmon, S.D., died Jan. 26, 1998, in a Lemmon nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lemmon. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery, Morristown, S.D.

She is survived by three sons, Johnny, Morristown, Robert, Lemmon, and Benny, McIntosh, S.D.; three daughters, Margaret Coddington, Laurel, Mont., Helen Fike, Brier, Wash., and Viola Olson, Lemmon; four sisters, Hilda Kladt, Killdeer, Sandy Sabin, Scio, Ore., and Violet Ost and Ella Entze, both of Beulah; and four brothers, Edward and John Lorenz, both of Tacoma, Wash., Willie Lorenz, Billings, Mont., and Pete Lorenz, Vancouver, Wash. Warren Stofferahn
OAKES -- Warren E. Stofferahn, 70, Oakes, died Jan. 24, 1998, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Oakes. Burial will be in Oakes View Cemetery, Oakes.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; two sons, Curtis, Grand Forks, and Scott, Fargo; one daughter, Mary Jo Prouty, Evans, Ga.; three brothers, Donald, Salem, S.D., Howard, Humboldt, S.D., and Kenneth, Pierre, S.D.; and two sisters, Arlene Dubbe, Morgantown, W.V., and Lois Anderson, Custer, S.D. Roy Frank
Roy H. Frank, 93, Lemmon, S.D., died Jan. 25, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery, Morristown, S.D.

He is survived by one son, Ronald, Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Dorothy Pudwill, Bismarck, and Marjorie Stoia, Bartelsville, Okla.; and two sisters, Hazel Todd and Pearl Halbert, both of San Diego, Calif. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon)
