Emma Grey Bear
FORT YATES -- Emma B. Grey Bear (unpan lee winyan), 66, Fort Yates, died Sept. 27, 1998, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Old Gym, Fort Yates, with the Rev. Casmir Paluck officiating, and burial will be in Grey Bear Cemetery, Fort Yates.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at the Old Gym, Fort Yates.

Emma was born April 13, 1932, at Fort Yates to Henry and Lucy (Redstone) Twinn. She was educated in Fort Yates and graduated from Standing Rock Community High School. She married Joseph Grey Bear on April 21, 1955, by civil marriage and on April 1960, by Holy Matrimony at St. Peters Catholic Church. She worked at Standing Rock Headstart and also as a cook at the school. She enjoyed beading, pow wows and playing bingo.

Emma is survived by her husband, Joseph; seven daughters and two sons-in-law, Arlyne, Eunice, Roberta and Kenny Dwarf Sr., Karen and Jackson Dogskin, Luci, Darlene and Marlene; an adopted daughter, JoAnn Standing Crow; three sons, Joseph Jr., Robert and Ronald; one sister, Marlene Twinn; an adopted sister, Fern Standing Crow; three brothers, Walter Sr., Donald and Duane Twinn, all of Fort Yates; three adopted brothers, Joe Tiona, Eagle Butte, S.D., Tom Iron, McLaughlin, Floyd Stretches, Cannon Ball; 18 grandchildren, including Jennifer Grey Bull, whom she raised, and one great-grandchild. Paul McBride
Paul V. "Mac" McBride, 89, Bismarck, died Sept. 27, 1998, in a local hospital after a brief illness. No services are planned.

Mr. McBride was born Oct. 13, 1908, in Weston, W.V. He had a long career as an on-site administrative manager for international heavy construction firms, building power plants, dams, and refineries. Prior to retirement in Bismarck, he helped construct Minnkota Power's coal-fired electric generating plant in Center. He lived in Bismarck for 24 years.

He is survived by his wife, Florence H. McBride; and a daughter, Claudia M. Carlson, and son-in-law, Kenneth R. Carlson, both of Sacramento, Calif. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Eva Jahner
REGENT -- Eva Jahner, 78, Regent, died Sept. 27, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, rural Regent.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; five sons, Frederick, Dickinson, Marvin, Wahpeton, Gerald and James, both of Mott, and Francis, Rapid City, S.D.; and six daughters, Barbara Bergee, Dilworth, Minn., Loretta Reinert, Mott, Alvina Schaaf, Glen Ullin, Donna Howe, Bismarck, Marie Nasset, Bowman, and Connie Kirschmann, Regent. Frances Schmidt
DICKINSON -- Frances Schmidt, 91, Dickinson, died Sept. 27, 1998, in the Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.

She is survived by two daughters, Sister Mary Laverne, Mankato, Minn., and Angeline Bayer, Dickinson; two sons, Marvin, Killdeer, and Peter P. Schmidt Jr., Barnhart, Mo.; two sisters, Eva Binstock and Barbara Binstock, both of Dickinson; and one brother, Anton Froehlich, Dickinson. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

John Odegard
GRAND FORKS -- John D. Odegard, 57, Grand Forks, died Sept. 27, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Grand Forks. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; one daughter, Stephanie Odegard, Minneapolis; one son, John Odegard Jr., Wichita, Kan.; his mother, Clara Odegard, Minot; one brother, James, Grand Forks; and one sister, Joann Samuelson, Minot. (Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks)

Edward Matejcek
BROCKET -- Edward Matejcek, 88, Brocket, died Sept. 27, 1998, in a Park River hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at United Lutheran Church, Brocket. Burial will be in ZCBJ-Kosobud Cemetery, rural Lankin.

He is survived by two sons, Gordon, Brocket, and Larry, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Mayvis Jallo, Park River, Doris McMorran, Lawton, and Karen Wallace, San Diego, Calif.; and two brothers, William and Lawrence, both of Brocket. (Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota)

Clarence Wetch
Clarence H. Wetch, 73, Mandan, died Sept. 27, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

He is survived by two sons, Bobby and Ricky, both of Chicago; and four brothers, Eldon, Rapid City, S.D., Henry, Los Angeles; Gene, Las Vegas, Nev., and Floyd, San Diego. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Mildred Moore
Mildred A. Moore, 85, Dickinson, died Sept. 18, 1998, in a Harlan, Iowa, hospital. A memorial service was held on Sept. 20, 1998, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan. Inurnment was in Harlan Cemetery.

She is survived by three children, Judith Ann Buxton, Terry Rae Moore and Peggy Jo Moore.

Aloysious Red Bird
Aloysious Red Bird, 45, Bullhead, S.D., died Oct. 1, 1998, in a Fort Yates hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysious Catholic Church, Bullhead. Further arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.

Merlin Dahl
Merlin P. Dahl, 83, Mandan, died Sept. 28, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending.

Martha Carlson
WILLISTON -- Martha Carlson, 83, Williston, died Sept. 28, 1998, in a Williston nursing home. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Eunice Oe
BELFIELD -- Eunice Oe, 85, Belfield, died April 1, 1998, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Belfield. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, rural Belfield.

She is survived by her husband, Nicholas; four daughters, Berna Walter, Joyce Morton, Carol Selby, all of San Diego, and Emily Oe, Houston, Texas; three sons, Keith and Dean, both of Belfield, and Dale, Idaho Falls, Idaho, two brothers, Bernard Jr. Wilson, Roanen, Mont., and Max Wilson, Othello, Wash.; and two sisters, Hazel Anderson, San Diego, and Viola Nunn, Connell, Wash. Ettie Tyson
Ettie Francis Houk Tyson, 86, formerly of Bismarck, died March 13, 1998, in a Moorhead, Minn. nursing home. Services were held on March 17, 1998, at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Ettie Houk was born on Aug. 27, 1911 on a farm south of Crosby to Willie and Borghild Houk. In September of 1928, she married George Tyson. She then lived in Bismarck for 19 years, where she helped organize the city women's basketball and softball leagues.

She is survived by two sons; one daughter; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister. (Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo)

Clarence Anderson
NEW ENGLAND -- Clarence Anderson, 83, New England, died April 1, 1998, in a Walhalla nursing home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. MST Saturday, at New England Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in New England Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; five sons, Gilbert, Wayzata, Minn., Roger, Jamestown, Clifton, Walhalla, Harlen, Stillwater, Minn., and Gale, Eagan, Minn.; four daughters, Lillian Schrader, Sturgeon Lake, Minn., Susanne McKinley, Eagan, Linda Keebler, Topeka, Kan., and Arlene Retzlaff, Dickinson; and one sister, Alice Briske, Tacoma, Wash. MOTT -- Mathilda Ruff, 98, Mott, died March 31, 1998, in a Mott nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Mott. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.

She is survived by two sons, Otto Kallis, Goodrich, and Christ Ruff, Kempner, Texas; and four daughters, Ann Tranby and Esther Colebank, both of Bismarck, Freda Gruebele, Dickinson, and Martha Graham, Lowell, Ark. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

Roy Grosz
MOTT -- Roy E. Grosz, 81, Mott, died April 2, 1998, in the Elgin hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mott. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.

Magdalena Engelhardt

Theresa Gerhart
DICKINSON -- Theresa Gerhart, 94, Dickinson, formerly of Halliday, died April 2, 1998, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Halliday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Vincent Piesik
Vincent Cyrl Piesik, 73, Glendive, Mont., died March 29, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Friday, at St. Peters Catholic Church, Wibaux, Mont. Burial will be in Wibaux Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; and one son, Gerald, Aurora, Colo. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Wibaux)

Erin Christenson
Erin Elizabeth Christenson, stillborn infant daughter of Leslie and Karen (Doll) Christenson, was born and died on April 1, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Further arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

John Baron
John Baron, 68, Mandan, died April 2, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Mathilda Ruff
MOTT -- Mathilda "Tillie" Ruff, 98, Mott, died March 31, 1998, in a Mott nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST today, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Mott, with the Rev. Jim Cissell officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.

Special music will be provided by Pat Schwartz, pianist. Casketbearers will be Brad Renner, Bryan Renner, Joel Gruebele, Kent Featherstone, Bob Keller, Leo Renner, Darwin Brekhus and Arlo Pettis. All staff and residents of Good Samaritan Nursing Center are considered honorary bearers.

Mathilda Kallis was born Sept. 26, 1899, to Gottfried and Louise (Krause) Kallis in Romania. She immigrated to the United States with her parents as a small child. They settled in South Dakota and later moved to a homestead in Hettinger county. Tillie went to school in Solon Township and worked on the family farm. On Dec. 4, 1925, she married Christian Ruff in Mott. She worked hard helping with the farm and raising her family. She was also available when needed by neighbors and friends as a midwife. In 1949, they retired into Burt. Christian died on June 24, 1962, and Tillie remained in Burt for a few more years then moved to Mott. She entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in 1985 where she lived until her death.

Tillie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and baking. She also enjoyed fishing and taking trips. Tillie dearly loved her family.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Otto and Jeannette Kallis, Goodrich, and Christ and Gloria Ruff, Kempner, Texas; four daughters and one son-in-law, Ann Tranby, Bismarck, Freda Gruebele, Dickinson, Esther and Laurence Colebank, Bismarck, and Martha Graham, Lowell, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Christ; two daughters in infancy and Ella Pettis in 1982; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sons-in-law, Tryg Tranby, Shorty Featherstone, Eddie Gruebele and Woody Pettis; two brothers and three sisters. Erin Christenson
WISHEK -- Erin Elizabeth Christenson, stillborn daughter of Leslie and Karen (Doll) Christenson, died April 1, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Richard Spiedel officiating. Burial will be in Napoleon City Cemetery, at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today, at Dalstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday.

Mrs. Janet Wolff will serve as organist for the service. Erin's uncles Alan Christenson and Duane Doll will be attending the casket.

Erin is survived by her parents, Leslie D. and Karen; her sister, Traci Christenson, at home; her maternal grandparents, John and Theresia Doll, Kintyre; her paternal grandparents, Alvin and Esther Christenson, Couer d' Alene, Idaho; Erin's aunts and uncles, Alan and Marian Christenson, Bismarck, Dale and Ann Christenson, Cameron Park, Calif., Lisa and Gary Guillerault, Enfield, Conn., David and Heather Christenson, Post Falls, Idaho, Duane and Gail Doll, Harvey, Marvin and Karen Doll, Elgin, James and Viann Doll, Bismarck, Sharon and Ben Jacob, Valley City, and Paul and Sherri Doll, Bismarck; and 23 cousins.

Erin was preceded in death by a stillborn brother, Robert Alan who died April 25, 1988. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Russell Linnell
Russell Franklin Linnell, 87, Lander, Wyo., and formerly of Mandan, died April 1, 1998, in a Lander hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Lander.

He is survived by three daughters, Maxine Esp, Lander, Virginia Engelhardt, Billings, Mont., and Carol Swanson, Elgin, Ill.; two sons, Ronald, Houston, Texas, and Gerald, Billings; and one sister, Elsie Thompson, Hawaii. (Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander)
