Kasper Scherr
STRASBURG -- Kasper Scherr, 79, Strasburg, died Feb. 2, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, where a rosary will be said at 8 tonight. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Kasper was born Jan. 26, 1919, in Strasburg to Kasper and Anna Mary (Hoff) Scherr. He attended St. Benedicts Catholic School, Strasburg. Kasper worked on the WPA before his marriage.

After his marriage to Eleanor Kramer at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Grassna, on Sept. 15, 1942. They made their home in Strasburg and for one year, Kasper worked at Pete Miller's Service Station.

They moved to a farm five miles southwest of Strasburg and in 1948, moved back into Strasburg, but continued to farm. In 1950, they farmed in the Zeeland area until 1983, when they moved to Bismarck.

In 1997, they moved to Strasburg and Kasper entered the Strasburg Nursing Home on Dec. 17, 1997.

He was a member of St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Eleanor; ten sons and nine daughters-in-law, Robert and Loretta, Moline, Ill., Wayne and Sandy, Vancouver, Wash., Marvin and Donna, Ames, Iowa, Terry, Marshalltown, Iowa, Daniel and Miranda, Fargo, John and Donna, Oakes, Thomas and Joyce, Zeeland, Gerald and Julie, Dickinson, Timothy and Peggy, Watertown, and Randy and Lauratta, St. Joseph, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Fischer, Linton.

Kasper was preceded in death by his parents; one son; five brothers; and four sisters. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Lorraine Slooten
Lorraine Van Slooten, 75, Lemmon, S.D., died Feb. 3, 1998, in a Hettinger hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. MST Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon.

She is survived by three sons, Frank Pederson, Poplar Grove, Ill., Ike Pederson, Wauhegan, Ill., and Art Pederson, Lemmon; two daughters, Lynda Edwards, Meadow, S.D., and Cathy Alley, Timber Lake, S.D.; three brothers, Don Haecherl, Okeechobee, Fla., Jack Haecherl, Chula Vista, Fla., and Joe Haecherl, Lisbon; and two sisters, Virginia Nohr, Lisbon, and Frana Hall, Chula Vista, Calif. Norman Stueckrath
DRISCOLL -- Norman L. Stueckrath, 63, Driscoll, died Feb. 2, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele. Further arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Services, Bismarck and Steele.

Peter Tofsrud
MINNEWAUKAN -- Peter Tofsrud, 87, Minnewaukan, died Feb. 1, 1998, in the Rugby hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; one son, Rick, and one daughter, Sharon, both of Minnewaukan; and one sister, Mabel Ose, Devils Lake. (Nelson Funeral Home, Minnewaukan)

William Wolf
NAPOLEON -- William Wolf, 72, Napoleon, died Feb. 3, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

The Rev. Edwin Wolt
WILTON -- The Rev. Edwin Wolt, 79, Wilton, died Feb. 1, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mission Evangelical Free Church, Wilton, with the Revs. David Johnson and George Walker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites provided by Wilton American Legion Post.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Edwin Wolt was born May 27, 1918, in Tappen to Jacob and Katherine Wolt. He grew up on his parent's farm near Tappen where he attended rural school. He graduated from Tappen High School and then attended Jamestown College.

He enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in July 1939 and then entered active military service in the Army on Feb. 10, 1941. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater at Guadalcanal.

He married Irene Schlichter on April 8, 1943 at Battle Creek, Mich. He was discharged on June 4, 1943 and they made their home in Jamestown where he began preaching as a lay-pastor and filled pulpit vacancies whenever they became available.

In 1946 they moved to Beach, where they owned and operated a meat market and locker plant. He also continued to serve the Lord as a lay-pastor. They later moved to Glendive, Mont., where he started a refrigeration service.

In 1963, they moved to Roundup, Mont., where they operated a hardware store. While at Roundup, he started an Evangelical Free Church, which he served for five years.

In 1974, they moved to Wilton where he became Pastor of the Mission Evangelical Free Church and was ordained. He was instrumental in the growth of the church which moved from the country to a new church in Wilton.

He retired in 1984, but still remained active as a pulpit supply pastor and continued to lead Bible study and prayer meetings.

His greatest joy and delight was to preach the gospel and to lead people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a member of Gideons International, and in his earlier years worked for "Youth for Christ."

Over the years he had preached and served in churches in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana for terms of one month to two years. He was a member of Wilton Senior Citizens Center.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Wolt, Orlando, Fla., and Carol and Paul Lute, Waterford, Conn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Mary Ann Wolt, Roundup, Mont.; and two grandchildren, Jesse and Nicole Lute.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Heather Lute; two sisters; and two brothers. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn)

Alice Aanderud
MADDOCK -- Alice Aanderud, 91, Maddock, died Feb. 3, 1998, in the Maddock nursing home. Services will be 10-30 a.m. Friday at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Roger, Michigan, N.D., and David, Severna Park, Md.; and one daughter, Dallas Berglund, Cavalier. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Martha Boehler
Martha Clara Boehler, 98, Bismarck, died Feb. 4, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Martha was born Sept. 18, 1899, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Andrew and Rosina Kaelberer. She was raised and educated in the New Salem area. Martha married John E. Hildenbrand in September of 1925. They raised one son, John Jr.

John Sr. died in 1968, at the age of 68. In 1970, Martha married Fred Boehler. Fred died in 1984.

Martha was one of the first cooks at Bismarck Hospital and was their chief cook for 37 years. She also was responsible for planning the hot lunch menus for Bismarck Public Schools.

One of Martha's hobbies was making wedding cakes. She was also very active in the First United Methodist Church, Bismarck.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John and Marjorie, Warren, Minn.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Greg and Nancy Hildenbrand, Detroit Lakes, Minn., Merle and Deb Steinar, Warren, and Doug and Clareese Hildenbrand, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one step-grandchild and spouse, Andy and Sandy Boehler, Fargo; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Katherine Neils, Bismarck, and Anna Guenther, Yakima, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, John Hildenbrand and Fred Boehler; five brothers; and five sisters. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Lena Christianson
KENMARE -- Lena M. Christianson, 80, died Feb. 1, 1998, in the Kenmare hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Coulee. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Dean, Clinton, Minn., and Roger, Bismarck; and one sister, Alma Holman, Vancouver, Wash. (Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare)

Beverly Erickson
Beverly Erickson, 41, Durango, Calif., and formerly of Bismarck, died Feb. 4, 1998, in a Denver, Colo. hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Josephine Fuerstenberg
Josephine E. Fuerstenberg, 82, Mandan, died Feb. 4, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7:30 tonight.

Josephine was born March 4, 1915, in Flasher, the daughter of Valentine and Barbara (Friesz) Brown. At the age of eight she moved with her family to Bismarck, and later to Mandan. She married Bernard J. Fuerstenberg Oct. 24, 1935, in Bismarck.

She was a charter member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Ladies Trainman Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at Mandan Hospital for several years.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Milton and his special friend, Sandy, Cypress, Calif., and Donald and JoAnn, Mandan; six grandchildren, Mark, Dean, Brent, Bruce and Belinda Fuerstenberg, and Brenda Staveteig; seven great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Jesse and Nicole Fuerstenberg, and Richard, Bradley, Steven and Andrew Staveteig; and one brother, Ralph, Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard, who died in 1983; two brothers, John and Tony; and two sisters, Magdalin Jochim and Appalonia Pfliger.

Lawrence Glasser
Lawrence Glasser, 66, 623 S. 16th St., Bismarck, died Feb. 2, 1998, in a local hospital from heart disease. Services will be noon today at Church of St. Mary, with the Revs. Charlie Heidt and Austin Vetter officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Lawrence was born on April 14, 1931, in Bismarck, the son of Frank and Rose (Wetzstein) Glasser. He attended school in Solen.

Lawrence was married to Irene Hatzenbuhler on Nov. 8, 1950. He was employed by Meisner and Anderson Construction for nine years and St. Alexius Medical Center for 32 years, until his retirement in 1993.

He was a master craftsman in woodworking and there was no challenge too big or too small. He spent many hours in his garden and in his shop where many masterpieces were created and memories were made.

Lawrence made a tremendous investment into his wife, children and grandchildren. They were the love of his life. He made endless sacrifices to provide a quality life for them.

Those who were so privileged to have shared in his life are: his wife, Irene; two daughters and sons-in-love, Carol and Dan Landeis, Bismarck, and Karen and Bob Porsborg, Center; one son and daughter-in-love, Lawrence Jr. and Carmen Glasser, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Landeis and Her fiance, Jeremy Oakland, Joshua and Jonnica Landeis, Chad and Mari Jo Porsborg, Heather Porsborg and her fiance, Scott Bullinger, and David and Stephen Glasser. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Elaine Geiger, Mandan, Anton Glasser, Rose and Monica Stoller, all of San Mateo, Calif., John and Frank Glasser, both of Seattle, Wash., Maggie Froelich, Mandan, and Bertha Barth, Reno, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose Glasser; his father and mother-in-love, Nick and Celestina Hatzenbuhler; two brothers, Mike and Adam Glasser; and one sister, Elizabeth Stoltz.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.

Marguerite Herman
BEULAH -- Marguerite Herman, 88, Beulah, died Feb. 4, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. MST Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Marybell Gordy
HURDSFIELD -- Marybell Gordy, 85, Hurdsfield, died Feb. 3, 1998, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chaseley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hurdsfield.

She is survived by her son, Walker, Hurdsfield. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Elmer Hildenbrand
NAPOLEON -- Elmer Hildenbrand, 70, Napoleon, died Feb. 3, 1998, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with burial in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice; one brother, Ted, Clearwater, Fla.; and five sisters, Irene Wirrenga, Adrian, Erma Bohrer, Katie Schnabel and Ardella Eiseman, all of Napoleon, and Ida Eiseman, Bismarck. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon)

Sofia Lach
MINOT -- Sofia Lach, 88, Minot, died Feb. 3, 1998, in a Minot nursing home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

She is survived by two sons, George, Minot, and Henry, Bismarck; and one daughter, Janina Hanley, Minot. (Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot)

Merle Lien
LEMMON, S.D. -- Merle B. Lien, 76, Lemmon, died Feb. 3, 1998, in his home. Services will be 2 p.m. MST Friday at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lemmon, with burial in Selma Union Cemetery, rural Thunder Hawk.

He is survived by his wife, Fanchon; one son, Randy, Bismarck; one daughter, Glynis Wallum, Lemmon; his mother, Violet Lien, Lemmon; and three sisters, Shirley Lien, Lemmon, Norma Hadely, Puyallup, Wash., and Arlis Craig, Fairfield, Mont. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon)

Clarence Lunde
LEEDS -- Clarence O. Lunde, 91, rural Leeds, died Feb. 3, 1998, in the Rugby hospital. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Leeds Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Brinsmade Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brinsmade.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Agnes Filler, Minot; six sons, Everett and Kenneth, both of rural Leeds, Carter, Minot, Joel and Jerry, both of rural Maddock, and Paul, Minnewaukan; two brothers, Arthur, Mohall, and Norman, Minneapolis; and one sister, Esther Leishear, Camp Springs, Md.
