DICKINSON -- John S. Anton, 61, Dickinson, died June 17, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Lefor, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by two sisters, Kathryn Anton and Mary Anton, both of Dickinson; and two brothers, Pete, Gladstone, and Lawrence, Dickinson. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Lila Parkin
Lila K. Parkin, 65, 1608 N. 13th St., died June 18, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele, with the Rev. Sharon Kapsch officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Lila K. Thorp was born May 10, 1932, in Gettysburg, S.D., the daughter of Henry and Ann (Dahl) Thorp. She was raised and educated at Windom, Minn. Lila moved to Steele with her family in 1946. She worked at Woodlawn Motel in Steele. Lila married Harold Parkin, Nov. 8, 1950, in Fort Riley, Kan. They lived in Alaska, Bismarck, Fargo and Devils Lake before retiring back to Bismarck in 1994.

Lila enjoyed bowling, golfing and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Rebecca, Bismarck; three grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan and Shawn Parkin, all of Bismarck; two sisters, Violet Zearley, Mandan, and Bernice Doerr, Bismarck; two brothers, Arthur Thorp, Driscoll, and Vernon Thorp, Denver; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Hilda Singleton
MISSOULA, Mont. -- Hilda Singleton, 85, Missoula, died May 24, 1997, in Missoula. Services were May 30 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Missoula, with burial in Sunset Cemetery.

She is survived by two brothers, Elmer Goetz, Red Wing, Minn., and Melvin Goetz, Bismarck, N.D.; one daughter, Nancy Coffee, Missoula; and one son, Bert Nelson, Billings.

Olga Kopperdahl
MADDOCK -- Olga Kopperdahl, 93, Maddock, died June 17, 1997, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. Further arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Jerry Meeker
Jerry Dean Meeker, 56, Greeley, Colo., formerly of Mandan, died June 14, 1997, in Greeley. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

He is survived by three sons, Daniel, David and Randall, all of Greeley; his former wife, Harriet, Greeley; one sister and brother-in-law, June and Terry O'Neil, Newport Beach, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Mary Meeker, Mandan; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph Schwartzbauer
Joseph Schwartzbauer, 62, 1203 Sixth St. N.W., Mandan, died June 18, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Church, Mandan, with the Revs. Hugo L. Blotsky, OSB, and Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 7 p.m., followed by a parish vigil. Visitation will continue at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Joseph Schwartzbauer was born Aug. 2, 1934, at St. Anthony, to Joseph and Theresa (Smith) Schwartzbauer. He was raised and educated in St. Anthony. He married Marlene Bender, Oct. 27, 1956, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. Joseph worked for Morton County as a heavy equipment operator from 1952 to 1972. He then worked for the City of Mandan as a loader operator at the City Landfill until the time of his death. He received numerous awards for outstanding sanitary landfill operation throughout the years from the North Dakota State Department of Health. As a hobby, Joe enjoyed driving an 18-wheeler occasionally for various cattle haulers.

He belonged to Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree), Sons of the American Legion and Christ the King Catholic Church. For their 40th wedding anniversary, in October 1996, Joseph and Marlene made a pilgrimage to the Vatican and other Catholic shrines.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Rick Ripplinger, Mandan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kathy, and Tim and Roberta, all of Mandan; four grandchildren, Jenna, Mikey, Gregory and Zachary; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marie and Herb Hill, and Lorraine and Wallace Schwab, all of Minneapolis, and Helen Lampe, Salisbury, Mo.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald, Leonard and Linda, and Janice Schwartzbauer, all of Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, James, Leo and Clarence.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Building Fund at Christ the King Catholic Church.

Ernest Kronberger
Ernest R. Kronberger, 58, 110 E. Gateway Trail, Mandan, died June 18, 1997, in Valley City. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Weigel Funeral Home Chapel, Mandan. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. CDT in Almont Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. CDT at St. Mary's Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Almont.

Ernest was born April 24, 1939, in Almont, the son of Michael and Barbara (Eichhof) Kronberger. He was raised and educated in Almont, and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Halstrand Construction in Lakota.

Ernie loved his horses, rodeo and trail rides. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity. Ernie was a true cowboy at heart and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy, Mandan; one son, Casey, Mandan; one daughter, Rhonda Kraft, Brunswick, Maine; one very special grandchild, MaKenzie Kay Kraft, Brunswick; a special niece, Michelle Gullickson Anderson, Atlanta; many nieces and nephews; two brothers, John, Almont, and Nick, Minneapolis; and five sisters, Anna Keller, Cottage Grove, Ore., Rose Mary and (Frank) Kobilansky, Glen Ullin; Ida Kronberger, Almont, Barbara Ormiston, Mandan, and Vivian Gullickson, Breien.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Peter, Joe and Mike Jr.; two sisters, Delores Willman and Shirley Becker; and two nephews, Sammy and Darwin Kronberger.

Saunders Joel Bears Tail Jr.
MANDAREE -- Funeral services for Saunders Joel Bears Tail Jr. (Flying Low), 39, Mandaree, will be at 11 a.m. today at Mandaree High School, with the Rev. Stephen Kranz and June Lockwood officiating. Burial will be in a private family cemetery. He departed this life on June 15, 1997.

Saunders Bears Tail was born Nov. 12, 1957, at Minot, the son of Saunders Sr. and Lyda (Black Bear) Bears Tail. He grew up in Mandaree and attended Mandaree School, where he graduated in 1975. He received a welders certificate from United Tribes Technical College in 1982 and attended the University of Mary in Bismarck where he was majoring in physical education and coaching.

He married Merle Merrick Sept. 24, 1976, in Watford City. They moved to Bismarck in 1982 to attend school.

Saunders was a member of the Prairie Chicken Clan and was the whistle carrier for the Little Shell Antelope Society. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mandaree. Although he was baptized in the Catholic church, he freely worshipped the Lord through various denominations.

He was employed as an equipment operator with the Department of Transportation. Saunders enjoyed sports and coached intramural basketball at Wachter Middle School in Bismarck. He also coached Junior High boys basketball in Mandaree.

He joined the Native American Dance Theater in 1982 and traveled throughout the world performing for audiences in the United States, Canada, Japan and France. He also was a member of the Plains Dancers, who he traveled and danced with until 1996. He sang with the Eagle Whistle Singers and Haystake singers. He enjoyed running and playing basketball.

He is survived by his parents, Saunders and Lyda Bears Tail Sr., Mandaree; three sons, Joe, Bismarck, Jay, Mandaree, and Jasten, Bismarck; one daughter-in-law, Tosha; two grandsons, Kale and Koy; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Harriet and Nathan Paul Good Iron, and Delreen and Kim Robertson, all of Mandaree, Lori and Claude O'Berry, Beulah, and Vida and Kevin Claymore, Bismarck; one brother, Ivan Goodall, El Paso, Texas; special friends, Amy Massett and Cedar and Nicole and Jenna Nenry; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and adopted family members.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Cora Black Bear and John and Emma Bears Tail. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)

Margaret Kuhn
Margaret Ann Kuhn, 79, died June 17, 1997, in Carmichael, Calif. She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Mandan. Margaret is survived by two sons, Thomas and Richard; one daughter, Susan Duncan; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in New Castle Cemetery, New Castle, Calif. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Joan Johnson
Joan C. Johnson, 63, Lakeville, Minn., formerly of Bismarck, died June 15, 1997, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; two sons, Jay, Boulder, Colo., and David, Boston; one daughter, Julie Pena, Minneapolis; three brothers, Robert, Manila, Philippines, and Don and Jerome, both of Bismarck; and two sisters, Mary Grassinger, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Karen, Bismarck.

Lenora Knight-Robles
BEULAH -- Lenora Knight-Robles, 57, Beulah, died June 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison. Burial will be in Congregational Cemetery, White Shield.

She is survived by one son, Darryl Schafer-Knight, Flandreau, S.D.; one daughter, Josephine Landeverde, Omaha, Neb.; four brothers, Ancil Knight, Omaha, Jule Knight, Hazen, Nicholas Knight, Lawrence, Kan., and Darrell Price, New Town; and three sisters, Regina Knight, Doneta Knight-Ayalu and Kerry Knight, all of Omaha.

Mabel Booth
WILLISTON -- Mabel Booth, 79, Williston, died June 19, 1997, in a Williston nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Home, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Jacob Erhardt
ALMONT -- Jacob Erhardt, 14, Almont, died June 19, 1997, in rural Almont. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, rural Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Claude Seeberger OSB officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Glen Ullin.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church, where a rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. MDT.

Jacob was born Jan. 14, 1983, in Mandan, the son of Jim and Linda (Hoerner) Erhardt. He was raised in rural Almont and attended school in Mandan. He was an enjoyable little boy who loved to laugh and smile. He was confirmed on May 18 at St. Joe. Jacob made the best of the cerebral palsy that afflicted him. He has touched the hearts of many who knew him. Jacob had been ill since March of this year.

He is survived by his parents; four sisters, Lisa Staiger, Glen Ullin, Carmen Erhardt, Scranton, and Andrea and Alysa Erhardt, both of Almont; his grandmother, Marian Erhardt, Glen Ullin; and his aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Val and Monica Hoerner, and John Erhardt; and one aunt, Clara Kastner. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)

John Baranko
DICKINSON -- John Baranko, 84, Dickinson, died June 18, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, north of Belfield.

He is survived by his wife, Olga, Dickinson; one daughter, Jeanette Czywczynski, Rapid City, S.D.; two sons, Rudy, Davenport, Iowa, and Leon, Red Lodge, Mont.; and three brothers, Mike, Fairfield, Pete, Dickinson, and Nick, Belfield. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Frieda Schmidt
GLEN ULLIN -- Frieda (Fehr) Schmidt, 84, Glen Ullin, died June 18, 1997, in Bismarck. Services will be at 11 a.m. MDT Monday at First Baptist Church, Hebron, with the Revs. David Ling, Herbert Schauer and Ervin Faul officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Frieda Fehr was born July 26, 1912, in a sod house south of Hebron, to Jacob and Sophie (Goessele) Fehr. She was raised and educated near Hebron. She helped around the family farm and also worked for the neighbors. She married Edwin Schmidt March 30, 1939, at Hebron. They farmed near Hebron. In 1961, they moved into Hebron but continued to farm until 1967. They remained in Hebron after their retirement. Edwin died Dec. 26, 1982.

Frieda was well known for her quilting ability and her delicious apple pies. She enjoyed the time she spent with her friends playing cards and aggravation. She moved into the Marian Manor Estates Apartment two months ago where she has resided since.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hebron, Ladies Aid, and was a former choir member. She also was a member of Brick City Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a special ``granddaughter," Bev Potter and her husband Jack; and their children Erika and Ben; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dolores and Gus Draeb, Bismarck, Alvina Weishaar, Missoula, Mont., Ruth Cloyd, Livingston, Mont., and Lillian Vinson, and Marilyn and Burt Bennett, all of Portland, Ore.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Lola, Greeley, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Richard.

Olga Kopperdahl
MADDOCK -- Olga Kopperdahl, 93, Maddock, died June 17, 1997, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Gary, West Fargo; two daughters, Betty Anderson, Heimdal, and Linda Keeney, Payson, Ariz.; one brother, George Togstad, Maddock; and one sister, Alice Aanderud, Maddock. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Emerson Leeds
WASHBURN -- Emerson Leeds, 82, Washburn, died Jan. 20, 1997, in a Jefferson City, Mo., nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

Mabel Booth
WILLISTON -- Mabel Wright Booth, 79, Williston, died June 19, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by two daughters, Avis Sandvold, Zahl, and Sharon Schmiginske, Williston; two sons, Thomas Wright, Corvallis, Mont., and Adrian Wright Jr., Williston; and one sister, Margit Austreim, Williston. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)
