DICKINSON -- Nick Messer, 87, Dickinson, and formerly of Richardton, died April 20, 1999, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Richardton.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Albert, Dickinson, and Nick Messer, New Mexico; six daughters, Anne Burk, St. Francis, Wis., Alice, Kathleen and Michelle Messer, all of Bismarck, Irene Sternberg, Fargo, and Clara Moids, Rapid City, S.D.; and two brothers, Frank Messer, Richardton, and Val T. Messer, Dickinson. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Edna Midgley
COOPERSTOWN -- Edna Stage Midgley, 92, Cooperstown, and formerly of McHenry, died April 20, 1999, in a Cooperstown nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, McHenry. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, McHenry.

She is survived by one son, James, McHenry; one daughter, Viola Edlund, Binford; and one sister, Orla Wagner, Chinook, Mont. (Evans Funeral Home, Carrington)

Myrtle Solheim
RUGBY -- Myrtle Solheim, 90, Rugby, and formerly of Maddock, died April 21, 1999, in the Rugby hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Myrtle Randle
DEVILS LAKE -- Myrtle Randle, 84, Devils Lake, died April 20, 1999, in a Devils Lake care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leeds. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds.

Linda Vogel
Linda Vogel, 45, Mandan, died April 20, 1999, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Tyra Ehlis
Tyra Ehlis, 5 weeks, daughter of Ryan and Angie (Moreno) Ehlis, Grand Forks, died Jan. 30, 1999, in Grand Forks. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Keith Norby
John Keith Norby, 67, Bismarck, died at his home on Tuesday, April 20, 1999.

The Rev. Keith Odney will lead a celebration of his life at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1114 Highland Acres Road in Bismarck, at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The service of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, with the Rev. Stephen Wold officiating. Visitation in Bismarck will be from 2-9 p.m. on Friday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue one hour prior to the services at the Church of the Cross. Visitation continues from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday for one hour prior to the services at United Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.

John was born April 30, 1931, in Fargo, the son of George and Dorothy (Parsons) Norby. He lived in Barnsville, Minn., until 1938, when the family moved to Grand Forks. He graduated from Central High School, Grand Forks, and from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. After graduation, in 1955, he returned to Grand Forks to work in the family department store, Norby's of Grand Forks. He married Barbara Hertsgaard on May 31, 1959, at Kindred. They raised four children in Grand Forks.

John closed the store in 1986 and moved to Bismarck. In 1988, he entered Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary, graduating in 1991. Following a post-graduate internship in Almont, he was ordained at Calvary Lutheran Church April 18, 1993. He was called to the Tuttle-Robinson Parish, where he served until his retirement in 1998.

John is survived by his wife; two sons, George and Gregory (Tammy), all of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Floy Marx, Bismarck, and Lisa (Shawn) Vodden, Grand Forks; five grandchildren, Benjamin and Katherine Norby, Allan Marx Jr., and Jessica and Thomas Vodden; and one brother, George W.P. Norby, Casablanca, Morocco.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donna Doll
NEW SALEM -- Donna Doll, 64, New Salem, died April 20, 1999, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Pius V Catholic Church, New Salem, with the Rev. David Zimmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Pius Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT today, at St. Pius V Catholic Church. A rosary will be said at 7:15 p.m. MDT followed by a vigil at 7:30 p.m. MDT at the church.

Donna Mae Friesz was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Mandan, the daughter of Peter and Justine (Assel) Friesz. She grew up on a farm near Flasher and attended Catholic grade school in Fallon. Following graduation from Mandan High School, she worked for Northwestern Bell and the Bismarck Tribune. On Oct. 13, 1956, Donna married George J. Doll. They lived on a dairy farm northeast of New Salem. After retiring from dairy farming, she worked for Morton County Social Services, which brought her much joy and fulfillment.

She was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Stitch and Stir Homemakers. She was actively involved in the 4-H Club in New Salem. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, cooking, gardening with George, traveling, and playing with grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, George J. Doll, New Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kristi Doll, Russell and Robin Doll, all of New Salem, and Brad Doll, Minot; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Rick Krebs, and JoAnn and Kirby Kruger, all of Bismarck; nine grandchildren; her mother, Justine Friesz, Mandan; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, her twin, Donald Friesz, and Larry and Pat Friesz, all of Flasher.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, Peter Friesz.

Memorials are preferred to St. Pius V Catholic Church, New Salem. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Paul Stroh
WING -- Paul Stroh, 79, Wing, died April 20, 1999, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with the Rev. Muriel Lippert Schauer officiating. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Burial will be in Wing Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Paul was born June 18, 1919, the son of Jacob and Katharina (Wahl) Stroh at Kramer. He worked for many area farmers over the years. On Aug. 6, 1977, he married Judy Meyer. They lived in Sterling for six years, then moved to Judy's homeplace in Wing.

Paul is survived by his wife, Judy; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ted Stroh, Wing, and Ed and Leona Stroh, Bismarck; two sisters, Mary Hochhalter, Wing, and Anna Vollmer, Bismarck; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Emil, Jake and John; and one sister, Katherine. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Elsie Rader
Elsie A. Rader, 70, 1804 Monte Drive, Mandan, died April 21, 1999, in her home. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Verle Reinicke officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Elsie was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Kidder County, south of Dawson, to Christ and Otelia (Himmerich) Hottman. She graduated from Napoleon High School in 1949, and attended Valley City Normal College. She taught rural school in the Dawson area and in 1954, moved to Bismarck, where she worked for Super Valu Warehouse. She married Joseph A. Rader, Nov. 25, 1956, in Steele.

Elsie loved taking care of children and had operated a day care in her home since 1982. She was a member of TOPS, First Lutheran Church Women's Circle, and delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Lenny Simpson, Hyannis, Neb.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Arvid and Kristi, and Orlin; three grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan and Michelle, all of Mandan; her mother, Otelia Hottman, Dawson; and two brothers, Alvin, Dawson, and Dennis, Napoleon.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Agnes Kitzenberg
WILLISTON -- Agnes Christine Kitzenberg, 70, Williston, died April 21, 1999, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by two sons, Sam, Glasgow, Mont., and Kim, Williston; two sisters, Ida Nielson, Reserve, Mont., and Bernice Sorenson, Plentywood, Mont.; and two brothers, Arnold, West Point, Calif., and Oscar, Oliver, British Columbia, Canada.

Mary Hillestad
LEMMON, S.D. -- Mary L. Hillestad, 92, Lemmon, died April 19, 1999, in the Lemmon nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lemmon, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon.

She is survived by one son, Leonard, San Angelo,. Texas; and one daughter, Hazel Mowry, Scottsdale, Ariz. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon)

Myrtle Randle
DEVILS LAKE -- Myrtle M. Randle, 84, Devils Lake, died April 20, 1999, in the Devils Lake nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at North Prairie Free Lutheran Church, rural Leeds, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph; one daughter, Janice Moen, Michigan; two sons, James Stave, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Donald Stave, Salol, Minn.; and one sister, Opal Marchus, Rugby. (Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds)

Albert Stegmeier
Albert A. Stegmeier, 88, 800 N. Mandan St., died April 15, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending.

Dorothy Moorhead
ZAHL -- Dorothy Moorhead, 85, Zahl, died April 21, 1999, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zahl Lutheran Church, with burial in Grenora Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, James, Zahl; and one daughter, JoAnn Evanson, Grenora. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Geraldine Motschman
Geraldine Motschman, 62, Norwalk, Calif., died April 18, 1999, in a Norwalk hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. CDT Saturday at Memorial Hall, Twin Buttes.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; three daughters, Denise Cabral, Trudy Garcia and Stacie Motschman, all of California; and six sisters, Effie, Elain, Doris, Clarine, Audrey and Ardith. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

William Shea
William P. Shea, 93, died Feb. 22, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. (Eastgate Funeral Service)

Harold McLain Jr.
STANTON -- Harold Edward McLain Jr., 46, Stanton, died April 21, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.
