Loretta Brokaw
WILLISTON -- Loretta (Wipf) Brokaw, 79, Williston, died Oct. 12, 1996, in the Williston hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by her husband, Delmar; five daughters, Jean Holland, Gillette, Wyo., Carol Lyles, Alexander, Karen Curtis, Spokane, Wash., Leola Hermanson, San Bernardino, Calif., and Darcie Pascal, Williston; one son, Roger Wipf, New England; and one sister, Florence Kadrmas, Dickinson. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Owen Hayden
Owen G. Hayden, 48, Grand Forks, formerly of Bismarck, died April 27, 1999, of natural causes while visiting his father in Sun City, Ariz. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday, and will continue one hour before services Monday at the funeral home.

Owen was born March 1, 1951, in Bismarck, the first child of Gary and Doris (Christianson) Hayden. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1969, after which he served six years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.

He married Gloria Warnke in 1972 in Grand Forks. Two children were born as a result of the marriage, Clint and Lance Hayden.

Owen graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1980 with a bachelor of arts degree from the school of communications. He was known as having a strong and distinctive voice as well as the ability to effectively communicate with everyone he met.

Throughout his life, Owen pursued and enjoyed many interests, but his lifelong passion was camping and canoeing, as well as spending time with his two sons, Clint and Lance, whom he loved dearly. Owen will always be remembered as a very caring, kind and compassionate person. He always saw the good in people and was willing to help others in need.

Owen is survived by his two sons, Clint and Lance; their mother, Gloria, Grand Forks; his mother and father, Doris and Gary, Bismarck; one brother, Cameron, Bismarck; his sister, Sharon, Rapid City, S.D.; his cat, Frosty; as well as those who admired him for his courage to face the many adversities of life that he sought to overcome. Owen will be missed by all.

Martin Lipp
Martin F. Lipp, 79, 504 First St. S.E., Mandan, died April 28, 1999, in a Mandan hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.

Martin was born on March 2, 1920, in Center, the son of Frank and Margaret (Schafer) Lipp. Martin was raised in Center. On April 14, 1942, he married Margaret Mosbrucker in Center. Martin was employed by Clairmont Construction as a foreman for 15 years and belonged to the Carpenters Union for 45 years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Martin Jr., Minot, Jerome and Lynette, and Allen and Linda, all of Mandan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Tom Doll, Dawson, Diane and Ray Theurer, Addison, Ill., and Debbie and Darrell Tischmak, Sauk Rapids, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Marie, Fargo; one sister and brother-in-law, Frances and George Snider, Port Townsend, Wash.; and very special friends, Leroy and Charlene Butler, and their children, Nash and Angel, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters.

Vern Christiansen
REGAN -- Vern "Mad Dog" Christiansen, 58, Regan, died April 26, 1999, in a farm accident. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Wilton, with Marilyn Rauch officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Bismarck Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.

Vern C. Christiansen was born Aug. 19, 1940, to Lowell and Lourene (Engelmann) Christiansen in Bismarck. He grew up in the Baldwin area and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1959. Vern married Charlene Simonson on May 9, 1979.

He loved his four children, farming and car races.

He is survived by his four children, Jeffrey, Janice, Jolyn and Justin; his mother, Lourene, Wilton; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Lyle, Bismarck, Russell and Joyce, Bismarck; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Donna Kelly, Texas, Marlys and Leonard Olson, Regan, Pat and Ron Andahl, Bismarck; close friends, Laura Mae Jiras, Baldwin, and Doug Pearson, Wilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Clarence "Skip," and Lynn; and one sister, Mary.

Lloyd Martinson
CANNON BALL -- Lloyd Martinson, 74, Cannon Ball, died April 26, 1999. Services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Verle Reinicke officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites by VFW Post No. 1326, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Lloyd was born Sept. 15, 1924, the son of Hilmer and Clara Martinson, in Ada, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Twin Valley, Minn. After graduating from high school, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in the parachute infantry. He served in the German Campaign, where he was awarded and received the Purple Heart. On July 25, 1952, he married Ann Leach in Killdeer. He worked as a depot agent in Cannon Ball. He purchased the grocery store in Cannon Ball, and later purchased the grocery store in Fort Yates. After retirement, Lloyd enjoyed going fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, James and Robert, both of Cannon Ball; one daughter, Cathy Gullickson and her special friend, Mitch Wick, Mandan; four grandchildren, Jason Martinson, Thereasa Newman, Shannon Gullickson and Jesse Jacobson; one sister, Evelyn Rylander; and one brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Millie Martinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Bob Martinson; and one grandson, Ryan Martinson.

Marlyn Hornberger
Marlyn M. Hornberger, 62, Moorhead, Minn., died April 26, 1999, in her home. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Marlyn was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Zap, the daughter of W.M. and Martha Hornberger. She was raised and educated in Zap. She married Harold Grosz in January 1956 in Hazen. She later moved to Bismarck. In 1981 she married Gerald Edelbrock. She then moved to Moorhead to be near her family.

Marlyn is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gerald and Brenda Grosz, Mandan, Jason and Beth Grosz, Dilworth, Minn., and Tyler Edelbrock, Council Bluffs, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Dwayne Tysver, and Leatisze and Byron Grosz, all of Hazen; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Norman and Kathy Hornberger, Park River, and Donald Hornberger, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.M. and Martha Hornberger; and a brother, Vernon Hornberger.

Howard Olson
Howard W. Olson, 61, Mandan, died April 27, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with burial in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Howard was born Aug. 15, 1937, to Walter and Louise (Glade) Olson, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson. He was raised in Medora, where his parents and siblings resided at the time of his birth. He received his earlier education in Medora and later, along with the family, moved to Jamestown, where his father worked as a heavy equipment operator for a highway construction company. He received the remainder of his formal schooling in Jamestown.

As an older child, he sought work, wherever and whenever he could to earn money and to become a responsible adult. He was very ambitious and seemingly nurtured that ambition throughout his life. However, we have wished that he could have truly known and been secured in the knowledge that he was liked and loved simply for being "Howie" and his work was a matter after a fact.

Until his illness prevented him from working, he had been employed by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, where his job was versatile, of a physical nature and as a bookkeeper.

Howard entered the U.S. Army Corps on Oct. 12, 1961, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 11, 1963.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William; and a niece, Karen Olson.

He is survived by five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Jean and Harry Veil, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Joan and Richard Clooten, Bismarck, Donna Lavonne and Harold Stone, Camano Island, Wash., Eloise and Jack LeFevre, Billings, Mont., and Virginia Nogosek, Bakersfield, Calif.

Kenneth Riedlinger
LAKOTA -- Kenneth Riedlinger, 58, Lakota, died April 27, 1999, in the Grand Forks hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lakota Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota. Visitation will continue from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Kenneth M. Riedlinger was born Feb. 4, 1941, at Hazelton, to Adam and Susana (Schatz) Riedlinger. He was raised and attended schools at Hazelton. He graduated from Bismarck High School. He attended Bismarck Junior College and North Dakota State University in Fargo. He worked for Super Valu stores in Bismarck, Fargo and Jamestown. He moved to Lakota in 1977, where he owned and operated Ken's Jack and Jill. He moved to Jamestown in the late 1980s and managed the Conoco Truck Stop for Brent Nerland. He returned to Lakota in 1996 and owned the Four Season's Lounge.

Ken is survived by his fiance, Doreen Henne, Lakota; her children, Audra and Austin, Jamestown; and grandchildren, Lucas and Izaac; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Sammy Wassim, Bismarck; one son, Scott Riedlinger, Modjeska, Calif.; one stepson and his wife, Patrick and Missy Volk, Fargo; two grandsons, Matthew Riedlinger and Daniel Wassim; one sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Marvin Giese, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Maggie Riedlinger, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wilbert and Larry; and two sisters, Delores Fiegel and Alvira.

Joseph Iglehart
GARRISON -- Joseph Patrick Iglehart, 34, Garrison, died April 26, 1999, in a ranching accident. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah; his son, Travis; his mother, Margaret Iglehart, Bismarck; his father, James Iglehart, Garrison; his grandmother, Eleanor Iglehart, Garrison; five brothers, Tom, Dan and Steve, all of Garrison, and Vince and Mike, both of Bismarck; and three sisters, JoAnn Iglehart, Fairfield, Sue and Chip Steckler, Jamestown, and Jean Graeber, Bismarck. Julia Enderle
RICHARDTON -- Julia Enderle, 75, Richardton, died April 25, 1999, in her home. Services will be 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Fred, Richardton, John, Taylor, and Mark, Richardton; two daughters, Julie Piraneo, Dallas, and Ruth Prouty, Richardton; one brother, Tony Gieser, Oakland, Ore.; and four sisters, Mary Miller, Dickinson, Elizabeth Davis, Yakima, Wash., Caroline Heilman, Turlock, Calif., and Margaret Heilman, Denair, Calif. Helmer Zimmerman
BOWDON -- Helmer Zimmerman, 72, Bowdon, died April 27, 1999, in the Carrington nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Fessenden, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden.

He is survived by four sons, Myron, Carrington, Steve, Bismarck, David, Fort Collins, Colo., and Jerald, Fessenden; one brother, Earl, Lancaster, S.C.; and one sister, Caroline Green, Anderson, N.C. (Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden)

Cleon Mourer
