Melvin Lange
Melvin Sigward Lange, 92, Bismarck, died Feb. 27, 1998, of natural causes in a Webster, S.D. nursing home. Private burial services will be held Thursday, with funeral arrangements being handled by Fiksdal Funeral Home, Webster.

Melvin was born on June 21, 1905, to Martin and Christine (Satron) Lange, in Webster. After graduating from Webster High School, he moved to Redfield, S.D., where he was employed by Northwestern Public Service as an electrician for over 25 years. He then went into business for himself as an electrical engineer and contractor, and also owned an appliance store in Redfield. He retired in 1970 and moved to Bismarck, where he lived until September 1997, when he became a resident of Bethesda Home in Webster.

He is survived by one brother, Reuben, Webster.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister.

Linda Wead
Linda M. Wead, 46, 1307 S. Frontier Trail, Mandan, died April 11, 1999, in her home. Services will be held at 1-30 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Selfridge, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Linda (Kraft) Wead was born Nov. 10, 1952, in Flasher, the daughter of John Sr. and Magdalena (Mosset) Kraft. She was raised and educated in Selfridge, graduating from Selfridge High School. Linda married Nick Wead on Aug. 29, 1985, in Bismarck. She enjoyed babysitting and worked as a waitress at Mandan Moose Club.

Linda loved her grandchildren and the activities she shared with them. Her hobbies included crafts, cross-stitching, collecting bells and wind chimes, along with playing cards and cribbage.

Linda is survived by her husband, Nick; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Jessie, Plymouth, Minn., and Shane and Rhonda Gross, Mandan; one daughter, Billie Jo Kraft, Mandan; four grandchildren, Vanessa, Miranda and Skylar Gross and Britney Haff; her mother, Magdalena Kraft, Mandan; eight brothers and six sisters-in-law, Charles and Shirley, Dallas, Ga., Jim and Helen, Belvidere, Ill., Roger, Mandan, John Jr., Mandan, Don and Karen, Poplar Grove, Ill., Tom and Char, Mandan, Gary and Ann, Golden Valley, Minn., and Jerome and Marsha, Mandan; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Marlene and Alfred Hoffman, Mandan, Sandy and Bob Haas, Mandan, Mary and Ron Bethke, Mandan, and Shirley Kraft, Bismarck; and a very special friend, Gail Buhler, Mandan.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Kraft Sr.; and two brothers, John and Larry Kraft.

James Gray
James P. Gray, 70, Bismarck, formerly of Mandan, died April 11, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, 408 Ninth St. N.W., Mandan, with the Rev. Paul D. Fiske officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 707, and American Legion Post No. 40, Mandan.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Jim, born March 3, 1929, was the son of Glen and Orla (Olson) Gray. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1947. Jim received a football scholarship to Jamestown College, where he graduated in 1951, with a degree in business. Jim married Ruth Mayer, June 7, 1951, in Steele. He went into the Army and worked as a radar technician for two years. Upon completion of his military service, Jim returned to Mandan, where he and Ruth made their home. He worked as a Standard Oil agent until February 1977, then owned and managed the Gray Oil Co. until his retirement in April 1990.

Jim was on the board of directors at Norwest Bank from 1973 until his retirement. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Mandan American Legion, Forty et Eight and the Bismarck-Mandan Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Nancy, Lafayette, Colorado; one daughter, Kathy, Heidelberg, Germany; five grandchildren, Rudi, Diana, Alex, Gracie and Annie; and one sister, Dorothy Coon, Portland, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Gwen Geiss.

The family requests memorials to First Lutheran Church and North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Mike Kratz
Mike Kratz, 87, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died April 10, 1999, in the center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and at the church one hour before services.

Mike Kratz was born July 18, 1911, in Russia. He came to the United States of America with his parents, Michael and Catherine (Dauenhauer) Kratz in 1912. They settled near Fallon. Mike married Marian Berger in Fallon on Oct. 9, 1934. After their marriage they farmed in the Fallon-Flasher areas, moving to Mandan in 1960. Marian died in 1979, and Mike moved to Center in 1982.

He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Anton and Julie, Bismarck, Ralph and Delores, and Adam and Esther, all of Mandan, Eugene and Rosie, Sturgis, S.D., and Jim and Carol, Deadwood, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Rose Berger, Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Matt.

Marie Schielke
BEULAH -- Marie Schielke, 92, Beulah, died April 11, 1999, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Doreen Jeffers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at the church one hour before services.

Marie Mehrer was born Oct. 8, 1906, at Kief, to Jakob and Helena (Kandt) Mehrer. She was raised and attended rural school near her parents' homestead in Sheridan County. Marie graduated from Snow's Dressmaking School at Anamoose. On Nov. 8, 1930, she married Ludwig Schielke at Lincoln Valley. In March 1931 they moved to Tuttle, where they operated a cream station until October 1961. They then operated cafes for the next eight year in Denhoff, Butte and Drake until their retirement in August 1968. They then moved to Sidney, Mont., and in May 1984, to Beulah, where she has since resided. Ludwig died May 9, 1987. Marie worked at the Beulah Senior Citizens' Rummage Sale since July 1987, with her goal being to work there until age 90, which she accomplished. Marie became a resident of the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, on June 22, 1998.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin and Vi, Beulah, and Calvin and Shirley, Reeds Springs, Mo.; four grandchildren, Clarisa, Spokane, Wash., Brian, Sioux Falls, S.D., Kenneth, Vista, Calif., and Shyla, Bozeman, Mont.; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Moser, Hillsboro, Ore., and Amanda Moser, Portland, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Irene Mehrer, Kief; and a brother-in-law, Ray Vetter, Drake.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ludwig, on May 9, 1987; her parents; two brothers and three sisters in infancy; four brothers, Herman, in 1983, Walter in 1995, Paul in 1929, and Benjamin in 1987; and three sisters, Lydia Pepple in 1958, Sophie Michkelanko in 1968, and Ruth Mittleider-Vetter in 1997. Janice Seilinger
MERCER -- Janice E. Seilinger, 54, rural Mercer, died April 9, 1999, in her home. Private family services will be held at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, with the Rev. Randy Emgarten officiating. LaRose Ketterling will serve as organist, with a duet by Phyllis and Leroy Nielsen.

Janice Elaine Skaley was born July 15, 1944, at Mercer, to Meinhardt and Gertrude (Dallos) Skaley. She grew up on her parents' farm north of Mercer on Brush Lake. She attended school in Mercer and graduated in 1962. She married Tom Brewster in 1963 at Mercer and together they had five children. She married Lloyd Seilinger on March 24, 1977, at Seattle. They lived in Bismarck until 1992, and then moved to Brush Lake where they made their home. She was employed by Provident Life Insurance Co. until 1994.

She enjoyed traveling, and for the past four years they have spent the winter months in Casa Grande, Ariz.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; four sons, Rick and Chad Brewster, both of Ennis, Mont., Robin Brewster, Mercer, and Shannon Brewster, Mandan; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Gary Nordstrom, Minot; two stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Cindy and Brad Miller, Bismarck, and Carla and Leslie Honeymann, Flasher; two stepsons, Jeff Seilinger, Seattle, and Mike Seilinger, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; her parents, Meinhardt and Gertrude Skaley, McClusky; two sisters, Marlys Anderson, Bismarck, and Mavis Orvis, Montana; one brother and sister-in-law, Merlyn and Kathy Skaley, Beulah; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Korus.

Isabel Shide
LARIMORE -- Isabel Shide, 66, Larimore, died April 8, 1999, in Mesa, Ariz. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore, with burial in Larimore.

She is survived by one daughter, Colette Pazderic, Northwood; three sons, Lonnie Guenthner, Northwood, Brent Guenthner, Red Lake Falls, Minn., and Stewart Guenthner, Larimore; four sisters, Maggie Nielson, Ivanhoe, Minn., Clara Ogden, Hensler, Ellie Dressler, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Helen Todd, Center; and two brothers, John Kautzman, Center, and Johnny Dilger, Center. Vance Galbreath
HETTINGER -- Vance D. Galbreath, 69, Hettinger, died April 11, 1999, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; one son, Barry, Alameda, Calif.; two daughters, Debbie Galbreath, Bismarck, and Tracy Minh, Hettinger; one brother, Paul, Lead, S.D.; and three sisters, Gwyn Barlow, San Lorenzo, Calif., Peggy Rose, San Diego, Calif., and Betty Becker, Mission Veijo, Calif. Manley Engle
CARRINGTON -- Manley R. Engle, 78, Missoula, Mont., formerly of Carrington, died April 8, 1999, in a Missoula hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at Carrington Cemetery.

He is survived by four sisters, Betty White, Carrington, Gladys Rhoads, Gretna, Neb., Mabel Kyte, Frazee, Minn., and Shirley Nielsen, Albert Lea, Minn. (Evans Funeral Home, Carrington)

Theodore Kranzler
LEHR -- Theodore Kranzler, 91, Lehr, died April 11, 1999, in the Ashley nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Lehr, with burial in the Lehr Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Tabitha; two sons, James, Lehr, and Donald, Oakes; two brothers, Henry, Ashley, and Albert, Brookings, S.D. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Eugene Willits
Eugene W. Willits, died April 9, 1999, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; one son, Calvin, Kindred; and one daughter, Patty Fassino, Cedar Rapids. (Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead, Minn.)

Marjorie Eidem
DICKINSON -- Marjorie Eidem, 85, Dickinson, died April 11, 1999, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Clarence Brown
BEULAH -- Clarence Brown, 65, Beulah, died April 9, 1999, in Youngtown, Ariz. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Jacob Freidt
Jacob Freidt, 81, 1360 14th St. S.E., Mandan, died April 12, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Patrick Bunnell
Patrick Bunnell, 44, 817 Elm St., Mandan, died April 12, 1999, in his home. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Olive Arenz
Olive "Ollie" Arenz, 69, Mandan, died April 12, 1999, at her home. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul D. Fiske officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, where committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no reviewal at the church.

Olive White was born on Sept. 16, 1929, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Benjamin and Irene (Meloche) White. She married Clyde Arenz on Oct. 22, 1946. They lived in the Milwaukee area until April of 1968, when they moved to Mandan.

She opened the first J.C. Penney catalog store in North Dakota in Mandan. She later obtained her realtor's license and worked for Pioneer Realty until 1985 when she opened her own business, Mandan Realty. A natural saleswoman, she loved the realty business and never lost her interest in it. She was currently employed by Century 21-Landmark Realty.

A loyal and strong supporter of the Mandan community and its development, she was active in the Mandan Rotary Club, serving as president in 1992-93. She also served on the Mandan Park Board for 12 years.

A lady with strong convictions, who was never hesitant in expressing them, Ollie had a passion for the game of golf, enjoyed playing bridge, and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She lived life to the fullest and was never afraid to take a well-calculated risk.

She will be deeply missed by many, including her two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and David Campbell, Greendale, Wis., and Peggy and Michael Bullinger, Fargo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Helen, and Roger and Sheri, all of Mandan; eight grandchildren, Benjamin Campbell, Jason Arenz and his wife, Tricia, Kerry Arenz, Nicole, Kelly and Toni Bullinger and Joe and Jon Arenz; two brothers, Robert White and his wife, Gloria, and Carlton White, all of West Allis, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, George Ulwelling, Sun City, Ariz., and Kenneth Arenz and his wife, Elsie Mae, New Berlin, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde, who died on May 20, 1992; her grandchild, Jesse Arenz; her sister, Nancy Ulwelling; an infant brother; and her sister-in-law, Bernice White. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Jacob Freidt
Jacob S. Freidt, 79, 1360 14th St. S.E., Mandan, went home to be with his Lord on April 12, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Dave Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 707 and the American Legion Post No. 40.

Visitation begins today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a parish vigil at 6 p.m. Visitation continues Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Jacob S. Freidt was born Aug. 14, 1919, at Rosebud. He was the son of Sebastian and Rose (Berger) Freidt. He attended school in Judson. Jacob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific from 1941-1946. Jacob married Eleanor Geiger on VJ Day Aug. 14, 1945.

He was a member of the American Legion and retired from the Operating Engineers Local 49 where he was a lifetime member. During his working years, he had a part in various North Dakota projects such as the Garrison Dam, Oahe Dam, missile sites and Interstate 94 construction.

Jacob enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Jack and Marie, and Dale and Sarah, all of Mandan, Robert and Evelyn, Bakersfield, Calif., Kenneth and Lisa, Grand Island, Neb., and Kelly, Lake Alm, Minn.; six daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Lee Schlosser, and Linda and Maynard Baker, all of Mandan, Paulette and Francis Muth, and Christine and Dean Berger, all of Bismarck. Francine and Rodney Morrell, Beulah, and Darlene and Thomas Jore, Salt Lake City, Utah; 43 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Stanley, Minot, Sebastian, Keller, Texas, and John, Indiana; and six sisters, Monica Price, Mary Hoffman and Margie Hoff, all of Bismarck, Eva Eckroth and Maggie Markel, both of Mandan, and Kantie Kunz, New Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, David; two brothers, Nick and Christ; and one sister, Clementine Kokkler. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
