Patrick A. Bunnell
Patrick "Pat" Bunnell, 44, 817 Elm St., Mandan, died April 12, 1999, at his home after a long illness of cancer. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation begins at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church Friday one hour prior to the service.

Pat Bunnell was born Nov. 15, 1954, in Mandan. He was the son of George and Charlotte (Ripplinger) Bunnell. Pat was raised in Mandan graduating from Mandan Senior High School. He married Penny Schmidt July 7, 1978, in Mandan. He belonged to Boilermakers Local 647 for 24 years and has worked for various power plants in the area. Pat was active in volleyball and played softball for Hoffman's Bar for 20 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, his favorite being goose hunting. He especially looked forward to the family camping trips.

Pat is survived by his wife, Penny; one son, Aaron, and one daughter, April, all of Mandan; his parents, George and Charlotte Bunnell, Mandan; his stepgrandmother, Dorcas Bunnell, Cambridge, Minn.; three brothers, Ken and his fiance, Debbie Calheim, Mandan, Keith, Rapid City, S.D., and George Jr., Thief River Falls, Minn.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and John Wangler, Mandan, Linda and Loren Dally, Strasburg, Colo., and Laurie and Mike Hedstrom, Wilton; 15 nieces and nephews, Nicole, Reggie, Tanya, Angie, Chad, Sara, Mandy, Michael, Christina, Alisha, Cody, Ashlee, Ruth, Ben and Ryan; one great-niece, Shaylynn; and two step-nephews, Justin Dally and Derek Calheim.

He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his one brother, Scott; his grandparents, Pete and Margaret Ripplinger, Melvin Bunnell and Isla Gaines. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Arthur Jungling
Arthur L. Jungling, 89, Bismarck, formerly of Max, died April 12, 1999, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Max, with the Rev. Jim Stenslie officiating. Burial will be in the Max Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church in Max.

Arthur was born Dec. 18, 1909, in Tripp, S.D., the son of Jacob and Maria (Herdt) Jungling. He married Katie Wagner on Nov. 30, 1930, in Max. Arthur farmed in the Max area his entire life. He was a lifelong member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Max. He served on the elevator board, church board and school board in Max. Arthur loved to do woodworking and cabinetmaking.

He is survived by his wife, Katie; one son and daughter-in-law, Jarvis and LaVonne, Max; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Gary Moore, Mandan, and Mona and Lou Hargis, Azle, Texas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Wagner, Elsie Tomlinson and Esther Streeper, all of Bismarck; and one brother, Ben, Garrison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ramona; and his brothers, John and Raymond.

Greg Sagmiller
Greg Sagmiller, 41, 1003 Third St. N.W., Mandan, died April 12, 1999, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation begins Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a parish vigil at 8 p.m..

Greg Sagmiller was born on March 18, 1958, in Bismarck. He was the son of Richard and Jeanette (Stradinger) Sagmiller. Greg was raised and educated in the Mandan area, graduating from Mandan High School.

Greg worked two years at the power plants and was employed with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as an engineer. Greg was a third-generation engineer, totaling 91 years of service between grandfather, father and himself going back to 1908.

He is survived by one son, Richie Sagmiller, Mandan; his parents, Richard and Jeanette, Mandan; and one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Debbie, Ellicott City, Md. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Charlie Brown
BEULAH -- Charlie Brown, 65, Beulah, died April 9, 1999, in Youngtown, Ariz. Services will be 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Charles Zins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Anderson, Steve Brown, Bruce Brown, Archie Zuern, Mike Powell and Cecil Hogue.

Visitation hours will be from 1-6 p.m. MDT Thursday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. A vigil and rosary service will begin at 8 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Charlie was born Feb. 1, 1934, at Dickinson, a son of Clarence and Viola (Braun) Brown. He grew up in Werner and the Beulah-Hazen area, graduating from the eighth grade. At the age of 17, he helped construct the Garrison Dam. Charlie then moved to Montana to work road construction and to Wyoming to work in the oil fields. He owned a truck line in Montana from 1970 to 1979.

On May 6, 1972, he married Bernadine Gleich. In 1979, they returned to Beulah, where he worked as a foreman during the construction of the Dakota Gasification Plant as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Charlie retired in 1989 due to poor health, and spent his winters in Surprise, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadine, Beulah; his mother, Viola Brown, Mandan; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barb Brown, Watkins, Colo.; three sisters, Lorraine and Walt Berg, Crystal River, Fla., Betty Brown, Bismarck, and Maureen and Delano Oster, Faribault, Minn.; one brother, Bill Brown, Jamestown; his sister-in-law, Marlene Brown, Bismarck; his mother-in-law, Lena Gleich, Jamestown; and numerous aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; his brother, Donovan Brown; his father-in-law, Tony Gleich and his grandparents. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah/Hazen)

Kenneth Christianson
WASHBURN -- Kenneth L. Christianson, 82, Washburn, died April 13, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Bradley Brauer officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn, with military rites provided by Washburn American Legion Post No. 12.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Kenneth L. Christianson was born May 20, 1916, at Plaza to Christ and Julia (Sjogren) Christianson. He grew up at Max, and later moved with his father and sister to Washburn where he attended high school. As a young man, he worked at Roundup, Mont., at a movie theater.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 24, 1941, and served in the 4th Cavalry Unit at Normandy, North France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Bronze Star. After his discharge on Oct. 20, 1945, he returned to Washburn and began working at the Roxy Theater.

He married Lettie Fahlgren on Dec. 31, 1945, at Dickinson. They lived at Washburn and in 1948, they purchased the Roxy Theater from G.C. Hoffmann. They operated the theater as a team until they retired in March of 1985. Kenneth also drove school bus and did painting and stain work.

He was a member of Washburn American Legion Post No. 12 and did woodworking as a hobby. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels.

He is survived by his wife, Lettie; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Alan and Pam, Washburn, and Chris, Center; one grandson, Kendall; and one son-in-law, Paul Weinberger, Turtle Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ruth Weinberger; and one sister, Vivian Emrick. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn)

Lena Luithle
Lena Luithle, 92, went to be with her Lord on April 11, 1999. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Evangel Temple, Bismarck. Private burial will be in Bethel Tabernacle Cemetery, Hebron on Saturday.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Lena Luithle was born Dec. 21, 1906, in a sod home southwest of Hebron, the daughter of Christian and Christina (Schneider) Will. She was educated in Heart River schools near her home. She married Karl H. Luithle on Dec. 9, 1927, and they farmed south of Antelope. Karl died in 1957 and she continued farming with her sons until 1962, when she moved to Bismarck. She was a longtime member of Evangel Temple. She entered the Baptist Home in November of 1994.

Lena is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Jean, Wilton, and Erwin and Phyllis, Kelso, Wash.; four grandchildren, Marcia Francis and her husband, Ralph, Pocatello, Idaho, Patricia Donovan and her husband, Patrick, Puyallup, Wash., Michael Luithle and his wife, Monica, Bismarck, and Patrick Luithle, Kelso; three great-grandsons, Ryan and Connor Donovan, and Jeffrey Luithle; one brother and three sisters-in-law, John and Katie Will, Bismarck, Erna Will, Beulah, and Agnes Will, Bismarck; two sisters, Adeline Luithle, Richardton and Edna Heinle, Adeline Luithle, Richardton, and Edna Heinle, Valley City; and many nieces and nephews.

Lena was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Edwin and Doven; and four brothers, Adolph, Henry, Edwin and Emil. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Rose Dahl
Rose Dahl, 58, died April 12, 1999, at Bismarck. Born in Sturgis, S.D., on July 11, 1940, she was the daughter of Harold A. and Jennie A. (Shove) Mitchell. She grew up in Sturgis and Casper, Wyo., and as a teen-ager came to the Bismarck-Mandan area with her family. For the last few years she made her home at Ellendale, until recently when she was stricken with the affliction that deprived her of life.

She was employed as a part-time waitress for several years at Al's Cafe in Mandan.

She was married at Mandan on Dec. 5, 1959 to Fred Raywalt. In 1977, she married Harold Palmer, and in 1982, she married Philip Dahl. All three marriages ended in divorce. To her first union were born four sons: James of Washington D.C., Daniel and Steven, Bismarck, and William, Grand Forks.

In addition to her immediate family, she leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Jennie Mitchell, Mandan; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Goldie Bargmann of Mandan, and Mrs. Frank (Carol) Voigt of Graham, Wash.; two brothers, Robert Mitchell of Mandan, and John Mitchell of Mandan; and several aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her father in 1982, one brother, Harold Mitchell Jr. in 1977, and her first husband in 1991.

Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with a rosary said at 8 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

The family prefers memorials to the American Heart Association.

Marjorie Eidem
DICKINSON -- Marjorie Scott Eidem, 85, Dickinson, died April 11, 1999, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in Dickinson Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Bjarne; two daughters, Jean Pahlmeyer, Regent, and Margaret Eidem, Olean, N.Y.; one son, John, Burnsville, Minn.; one sister, Virginia Benzie, Taylor; and one brother, Stan Scott, San Mateo, Calif. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Oliver Olson
REGENT -- Oliver J. Olson, 90, Regent, died April 12, 1999, in the Mott nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ulmer-Zich American Legion Hall, Regent. Burial will be in Regent Cemetery.

He is survived by his son, Curt, Regent; his daughter, Verla Kihle, Minneapolis; and one sister, Irene Weeda, Mandan. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

Johanna Anderson
Johanna Anderson, 88, Moorhead, Minn., formerly of Maddock, died April 9, 1999, in a Moorhead nursing home. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock.

She is survived by one granddaughter. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Esther Manly
Esther Manly, 85, Moorhead, Minn., and formerly of New Rockford, died April 13, 1999, in a Moorhead nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Inga Wangen
VELVA -- Inga Wangen, 84, Velva, formerly of Harvey, died April 13, 1999, in the Velva nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Janet Norden
CARRINGTON -- Janet Norden, 91, Carrington, died April 12, 1999, in the Carrington nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Myrle Zahn
Myrle Zahn, 71, Bismarck, died April 13, 1999, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Izora Giese
NEW TOWN -- Izora Whitebody Dye Giese, 76, New Town, died April 15, 1999, in a New Town nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Parshall. Burial will be in Paul Broste Cemetery, Parshall.

A wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, at New Town Civic Center.

Izora Whitebody Dye Giese, Tawisaaku sapaut (Cedar Woman) also known as Glass Woman, was born on Dec. 19, 1922, at Elbowoods, the daughter of John and Mamie (Wells) Whitebody Sr. She was raised in Lucky Mound.

On Feb. 24, 1947, she was married to Lawrence Dye Sr. Izora cooked at Lucky Mound and Elbowoods. Lawrence died in 1957. On April 13, 1958, Izora married Arnold Giese. They continued to live in Lucky Mound until Arnold's death in 1964. Izora moved to New Town and worked as a custodian for the B.I.A. She later worked for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home as a housekeeper and later as a Green Thumb Assistant and secretary for the Tribal Social Services. She entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in November 1998, where she resided until her death.

She was a member of the Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Izora liked to make quilts. She made patch quilts for all of her grandchildren. Her favorite quilt was the crazy quilt. She loved embroidery, sewing, making shawls, doing other crafts, and crossword puzzles. Her favorite colors were pink, lavender, blue and white. She enjoyed watching pro wrestling and Little House on the Prairie. Her favorite bird was the owl, of which she collected in knickknacks, pictures and figurines. Her favorite foods were stew, tomatoes and bread.

She is survived by three sons, Bert Dye, Fort Worth, Texas, Algin Wayne Dye and Lawrence Dye Jr., both of New Town; one daughter, Vivian Gillette, Bismarck; three brothers, John Whitebody Jr., Sanish, Wayne Whitebody Sr., New Town, and Vernon Whitebody, Fort Worth; three sisters, Mary Whitebody, Jane Church and Tine Whitebody, all of New Town; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Clarice Whitebody; one son, Robert Giese; two brothers, Sidney Whitebody and Timothy Whitebody; and two sisters, Violet Fox and Coleen Whitebody. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)
