CARRINGTON -- Dorothy Ann Aljets, 77, Carrington, died April 15, 1999, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Federated Church, Carrington. Burial will be in Carrington Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, George; four sons, Robert E., Harvey, George and Thomas, both of Carrington, and Ronald, Iron Mountain, Mich.; three daughters, Connie Fischer, Joan Petrick, both of Makoti, and Shirley Charles, Carrington; two sisters, Rose Meier, Jamestown, and Catherine Steinwand, Carrington; and two brothers, Francis Schaack, Woodburn, Ore., and William Schaack, Starkweather. Stanley Rafferty
NEW ENGLAND -- Stanley R. Rafferty, 90, New England, died on April 15, 1999, in Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Monday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England. Burial will be in New England Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Patricia Rafferty, Cotopaxi, Colo., Nancy Graff and Carrie Skaare, both of Windsor, Colo.; four sons, Verne, Anchorage, Alaska, Bill, Watford City, Murry, Paynesville, Minn., and Lee, Watford City; one sister, Della Gellett, Dickinson, and two brothers, Dwight, Devils Lake, and Jack, New England. Alexander Grombeck
Alexander Bjorn Grombeck, infant son of Bjorn and Shelley Grombeck, died April 15, 1999, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Raymond McAlpin
Raymond J. "Turk" McAlpin, 80, Ventura, Calif., died April 8, 1999, in a Ventura hospital of heart complications.

Mr. McAlpin was born July 14, 1918, raised in Des Plaines, Ill., and attended Coe College where he met his wife of 57 years, Barbara. During his attendance at Coe College, he was the editor of the school annual and newspaper. Mr. McAlpin was president of Scabbard and Blade, and also president of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Mr. McAlpin served as a cryptographic officer in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was stationed in Florida and Alaska, retiring as a major.

Following the war, he was in management and ownership positions in the retail clothing industry until becoming the administrator of the Missouri Valley Clinic in Bismarck. He was past president of the Bismarck Chamber of Commerce, and a life member of the Medical Group Management Association. The family moved to Ventura in 1966, where he managed the Buenaventura Medical Clinic until his retirement in 1984. Mr. McAlpin and his wife traveled extensively and lived in their Lake Tahoe cabin for many summers. Mr. McAlpin was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Al Malaikah Shrine, Los Angeles Temple.

Mr. McAlpin was honored with the "Legion of Honor" award by the Order of DeMolay and was a charter member of the Ventura Exchange Club.

Mr. McAlpin is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Margie, Novato, Calif., and Brian and Renee, Champagne, Ill.; one brother, Wayne, Virginia; his grandchildren, Craig and his wife, Natalie McAlpin, Sarah and her husband, Nathan Lasiter, Stephen McAlpin, Megan McAlpin and Michelle McAlpin; and his great-grandson, Paul.

Mr. McAlpin was preceded in death by his grandson, Paul, in 1981.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. April 19 at New Song Community Church, 3200 N. 11th St., Bismarck, with the Rev. Larry Jahnke officiating.

Alvina Wolf
Alvina Wolf, 69, 600 S. 14th St., Bismarck, died April 16, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital after battling a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by a vigil, both at the funeral home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Alvina was born July 6, 1929, in Emmons County, the daughter of Leo M. and Anna Marie (Bossert) Kuntz. She married Leo J. Wolf on July 26, 1948, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Emmons County. They farmed northeast of Linton until 1953, when they moved to Bismarck.

Alvina spent most of her life in devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Her family is grateful to have shared in her life and were very blessed to have always had her quiet supporting presence. Alvina enjoyed those special times with her grandchildren. She also took great pleasure in gardening and the outdoors.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leo A. Wolf Jr., Daniel and Kathy Wolf, and Tom and Janice Wolf, all of Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane and Ross Warner, Bonnie Wolf and special friends, Alleyn and Jason Glasser, and LaVonne and Jim Henes, all of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, Monte and Grady Wolf, Nathan and Lindsey Warner, Amanda, Jamie, Kayla and Kyle Wolf, and Nicholas, Andrew and Katie Henes. She is also survived by four brothers, Leo Kuntz, Linton, Eusebius Kuntz, Bismarck, Vincent Kuntz, Crivitz, Wis., and Michael Kuntz, West Bend, Wis.; and six sisters, Kathryn Roehrich, Fargo, Mary Ann Masseth, Peoria, Ariz., Barbara Roehrich, Red Bluff, Calif., Agatha Holzer and Florence Glass, both of Bismarck, and Irene Brown, Crivitz, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Bernard Kuntz. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Timothy Rasset
Timothy P. Rasset, 51, Mandan, died April 14, 1999, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Verle Reinicke officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan, with full military rites provided by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday, and from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, both at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no reviewal at the church.

Timothy P. Rasset was born on Feb. 7, 1948, at Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of Daniel and Patricia (Lee) Rasset. He moved with his family to Valley City and later to Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1966. Tim married Diane Wolfer on June 28, 1969, in Bismarck. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1970 and had been a systems analyst for Basin Electric from 1980 until his retirement in 1998. A member of the U.S. Army Reserves for over 20 years, Tim was ordered to active duty with the 311th Evac Unit in Operation Desert Shield-Storm in 1991.

A resident of Mandan since 1975, he was active as a Cub Scout Master and soccer coach when his sons were younger. An active member and past president of the Central Amateu Radio Club, Tim had an affinity for antique radios and enjoyed collecting and repairing them.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; three sons, Jason and Jon, both of Mandan, and Jeremy, Bismarck; two grandsons, Devon and Chandler Rasset; three sisters, Robin Taketa and Laura Rasset, both of Washington state, and Kathy Kottenbrock, Casselton; four brothers, Terry, Plano, Texas, Daniel Jr., Kevin and Kelly, all of Washington state; his mother-in-law, Freda Wolfer, Bismarck; and special friends, L.S. Colebank and Larry Tessmer, both of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Carl Wolfer.

Sister Janet Lantz
Sister Janet Lantz, 65, died peacefully on April 10, 1999, at Mother of God Monastery following a long battle with cancer. Services were held on April 13, 1999, at Mother of God Monastery, Watertown, S.D. with the Rev. Richard Ortmeier officiating. Burial was in the Mother of God Monastery Cemetery.

She (Marie) was born Aug. 24, 1933, at Richardton, to Jacob and Frances (Wetzstein) Lantz. Sister Janet attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Richardton in 1951. She received a bachelor of arts degree in education from Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D. She was an educator for 34 years, teaching in schools in Aberdeen, Chamberlain, Hoven and Pierre, S.D., and Richardton.

Sister Janet is survived by her brothers, Peter, Richardton, Edward, Las Vegas, and Maynard, Bismarck; her sisters, Dolores, Missoula, Mont., and Agnes, Florida; her stepsisters, Sister Virginia Kopp, Phyllis, Alma and Agnes Mae; and by her Sisters of the Mother of God Monastery.

Erhardt Straub
Erhardt Johanes Straub, 83, 2430 Valley View, Bismarck, died Feb. 20, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Burial will be at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday, at New Leipzig Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Erhardt was born on March 3, 1914 in North Lemmon Township, the son of Jacob and Christina (Zacher) Straub. He was raised and educated north of Lemmon and helped his family on the farm. He worked from 1933 to 1935 on area township roads while living on the family farm. From June of 1936 until October of 1936, he lived in Oregon and worked on the orchards picking pears and lumbering. Erhardt married Kathryne E. Frey in Elgin, on June 19, 1938. From 1939 until 1941 he worked for the WPA as a time keeper. They then farmed and raised their family south of New Leipzig.

He served on the Kreutz Township Election Board for 20 years, and on their school board for nine years. He was a member of, and on the church council for, the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig. In Bismarck, Erhardt was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and took part in Faith Lutheran Church Friendship Circle. For many years, he served on the election board and was a kitchen volunteer at Bismarck's Senior Center. Erhardt volunteered for the newsletter as well as the Bismarck Senior Center Nutrition Program. He also served on the Silver Haired Legislature Election Board. He enjoyed shooting pool, watching television, and was very proud of his fine miniature tractor collection.

Erhardt is survived by one son, Vernon, New Leipzig; four daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Clifford Zimmerman, Montana, Gloria and Don Perot, Louisiana, Judy and Rudolph Veitz, Hettinger, and Janice and Jerome Schenfisch, Garrison; 13 grandchildren, Mary Beth and Pamela Straub, Clifford and Chester Zimmerman, Cheryl Brilz, Brenda Johnson, Angela Perot, Allan, Arlin, Ann, Arlet and Alex Veitz, and Kathryne Koffler; nine great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryne; his parents; an infant son, Ernest George; two brothers, Herbert Bauer and Walter Straub; and one grandchild. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Robert Stoddard
FLASHER -- Robert Stoddard, 78, Flasher, died Feb. 21, 1998, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Wednesday, at American Lutheran Church, Flasher, with the Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Fairhill Cemetery, with graveside services by Flasher American Legion.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Robert was born on June 26, 1919 at Flasher, the son of Cort and Elsie (Evenson) Stoddard. He was raised in the area and graduated from Flasher High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, with the 37th Fighter Squadron in Italy and Africa. After his discharge from the service he married Bette Banning in 1948. He worked for Mor-Gran-Sou, owned and operated the Park Tavern in Flasher and was later employed with the Morton County Road Department, retiring in 1976.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating and was a lifetime member of American Legion, as well as a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Mandan Eagles Clubs. Bob was particularly known for his wit and singing. He loved life and always found the good in those he knew. No matter what problems arose, Bob was not one to complain.

Bob will be missed by many friends and family members, including his wife, Bette; his stepdaughter and her husband, Jill and Art Gaskins, Castro Valley, Calif.; his son, Gary Stoddard, Gering, Neb.; two stepsons, Scott Sinclair and his wife, Wendy, Phoenix, and Toby Thompson, Great Falls, Mont.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Vera Stoddard, Valley City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Curtis. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Emmett Hegwood III
MCKENZIE -- Emmett "Tuffer" Leo Hegwood III, 28, McKenzie, died Feb. 22, 1998 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, McKenzie.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Emmett was born on Nov. 7, 1969 in Lisbon, the son of Emmett Jr. and Sandra (Zeeb) Hegwood. Emmett and his family lived in Gwinner, and moved to Bismarck in 1974, and then to McKenzie. Emmett graduated from Bismarck High School in 1988. He worked for Dorscher's Sand Blasting in Bismarck.

He had a lot of love for all his family, animals, farming, country living, fixing up Chevy pickups with his Dad, and country music.

He is survived by his parents, Emmett Jr. and Sandra Hegwood, McKenzie; three sisters, Nanette Hegwood and her son, Nathen, Bismarck, Susan and her husband, Troy Schumacher and children, Lacey and Tanner, Pettibone, LaDonna and her husband, Bruce Loehrke and children, Nicole and Bryce, New Salem; grandparents, Leo and Viola Zeeb, Goodrich, and Emmett Sr. and Rose Hegwood, Oakes; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a cousin, Lee Allen Zeeb.

Ann Jorgenson
Ann Jorgenson, 82, Mandan, died Feb. 20, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilton, with the Rev. George Pruys officiating.

A rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. tonight, followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Ann Dowhanick was born July 7, 1915 to John and Helen (Ewasiuk) Dowhanick in Belfield. She was raised on the family farm. She married Lewis Jorgenson on Nov. 19, 1938. They farmed Mr. Jorgenson's parents homestead 17 miles southeast of Mercer.

Ann was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilton.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Duaine Schilling, Turtle Lake; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Paul and Florence Jorgenson, and Roger and Elizabeth Geist, all of Cedar, Minn., Clyde and Vickie Donovan, Collinsville, Ill., and Jim Donovan, Naperville, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Sneer, Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Nick, Wilton, and Paul, Portland, Ore.; and many special nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; two sons, Duane and Clifford; her parents; four sisters; and four brothers. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Frank Kingsbury
CENTER -- Frank Kingsbury, 44, Center, died Feb. 18, 1998, at his home in Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Center United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary-Lee Lint officiating.

Frank Kim Kingsbury was born on Jan. 11, 1954 at Mexico City, Mexico, the son of Thomas Lloyd Kingsbury and Anne Rose (Sader) Kingsbury. He was raised in the Sanborn area and graduated from North Central High School near Sanborn. He married Julie Komrosky in Valley City in 1972. A boiler maker and iron worker, Frank was a member of Mandan Local No. 793. He moved with his family to Center in 1975. His job took him to many parts of the country and he spent a great deal of time working in Washington State.

He enjoyed fishing, reading, jet-skiing with his daughters, gardening and playing cards.

He is survived by many family members and friends, including his four daughters, Kelli Swanson and her husband, Stephen, Daytona Beach, Fla., Jodi Kingsbury, Dickinson, and her fiance, Aaron Hintz, Hannover, Rena Kingsbury, Bismarck, and Lanna Kingsbury, Dickinson; his mother, Anna Nelson, Page; his father, Thomas Kingsbury, Patagonia, Ariz.; two brothers, Tom, Fargo, and Kurt, Valley City; and numerous half-sisters and brothers. Hillis Adams
Hillis R. Adams, 84, Bismarck, died Feb. 20, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Century Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Willis Potratz and John Binder officiating. Burial will be in Underwood Cemetery at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Hillis Ross Adams was born April 18, 1913 in Adell, Iowa, the son of Willie and Lillie (Jewett) Adams. Soon after Hillis was born, the family moved to Underwood, where Hillis was educated.

He married Alice Larson on September 25, 1937 in Wilton. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Wilton area until 1951, when they moved to Bismarck and Hillis began his employment with the North Dakota Highway Department. He retired in Bismarck in 1975. The last 18 years of his employment was in Underwood as an equipment operator and leadman.

During his retirement, he greatly enjoyed woodworking. Hillis was a charter member of Century Baptist Church. He served many years of his life as a Sunday school teacher and camp counselor at Crystal Springs Baptist Camp.

Hillis is survived by his wife, Alice; two daughters and sons-in-law, Juliet and Gary Blatchford, Bismarck, and Lola and Robert Mattfeld, Spokane, Wash.; five grandchildren, Renae and husband, Clay Ulrich, Bismarck, Jodi and husband, Matt Lokemoen, Chippewa Falls, Wis., Ruth and husband, Gregg Stuart, Bismarck, Paul and wife, Kelci Mattfeld, Spokane, Wash., and Nathan and wife, Aide' Mattfeld, Tepic, Mexico; nine great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Harold Larson, Breckenridge, Minn.; three sisters-in-law, Kathryn Adams, Tacoma, Wash., Mary Adams, Butte, Mont., and Barbara Bunk, Mandan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to Crystal Springs Baptist Camp. (Bismarck Funeral Home)
