Alma Klaudt
Alma Klaudt, 87, 427 S. Washington St., Bismarck, died March 6, 1998, in a Mandan nursing home. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Bismarck, with the Revs. Jim Cissell and Dave Harriman officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time on Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Louise Alma Klaudt was born in a sod house on Feb. 27, 1911, in McIntosh County, north of Zeeland, the daughter of Wilhelm and Magdalena (Dickoff) Klaudt.

When she was about four years old, the family moved to a farmstead seven miles west of Linton. She attended country grade school and three years of high school in Linton.

She moved to Bismarck in 1940, and began working for the Bismarck Hospital as a cleaning lady. She later took nurse's aide courses and went to work in central supply.

She retired in 1970 after 30 years of service to Bismarck Hospital. After her retirement, she continued to work part time at the hospital.

She was very active in church work, in both the Women's Missions Society and in World Gospel Missions Ministries. She attended Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church as well as Calvary United Methodist Church.

Alma enjoyed cooking and baking, and was known for her special "honey cookies" that she baked for her entire family and her friends.

Another of Alma's joys was photography. She loved taking pictures of her family, and arranging and framing all her pictures.

She leaves two sisters and one brother-in-law, Edna Klaudt, and Wilma A. and Duke Ellingson; as well as many nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces; several great great-nephews and nieces; and very special friends, Dave and Karol Harriman and Ms. Iva Langseth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Esther Munsch, Linda Miller, Elsie Klaudt and an infant sister; three half-brothers, Henry Klaudt, Reinhold Klaudt, and Gustav Dicks; and a niece, Robin Ellingson. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Duane Young
STEELE -- Duane Young, 56, Steele, died March 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Steele, with the Rev. Kerry Stastny officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele.

Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday both at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday also.

Duane was born on Nov. 14, 1941, in Bismarck, the son of Harvey and Alvina (Wyant) Young. He was raised and educated in Steele, Driscoll and Ashley. Duane graduated from Ashley High School in 1957.

He also graduated from Jamestown College with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and chemistry. Duane did graduate work at NDSU in Fargo. He taught school for several years in Tolley, McLaughlin, S.D., Maxbass and Westhope. He was also the principal at Westhope High School.

Following his teaching career, Duane owned and operated a dairy farm near Steele until his eyesight failed him.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Steele, and North Dakota Education Association.

Duane enjoyed classical music and was an accomplished classical pianist. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and his pet dog, Dinah.

He is survived by his mother, Alvina Young, Steele; one sister and brother-in-law, LaVonne and Robert Nix, Steele; one foster sister, Lorna Rangeloff and her family of Tappen; four nieces, Jody and Gary Schily, Mobridge, S.D., Dr. Ronda Nix, Galveston, Texas, Sherri and Corey Smith, Fargo, and Lori and Clint Sweet, Lisbon; one nephew, Shawn Nix, Wahpeton; two great-nieces, Jill and Tara Schily; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Young; and his grandparents. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck and Steele)

Earl Weiss
Earl P. Weiss, 90, 415 N. 14th St., Bismarck, died March 6, 1998, at his home. Services will be noon Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Revs. Charles Heidt and John Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to noon, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Earl was born Dec. 2, 1907, in Greene, Iowa, the son of Herman and Clara (Ramker) Weiss. He was raised and educated in Iowa. He then went to Mankato Business College, where he met his wife to be, Hazel Baker.

Earl and Hazel were married on Oct. 13, 1928 in Hazelton. Following their marriage, they moved to the Baker farm in Hazelton, where they lived for five years.

They moved to Bismarck, where Earl worked for North Dakota Highway Department and later worked for Northern Pacific Railroad until his retirement.

He loved to garden and do woodworking.

Earl is survived by his wife, Hazel; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Neil Fricke, and Kathryn and Lyle Bickel, all of Bismarck, and Patricia and Jack Drumbeller, Bozeman, Mont.; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Earl and Betty, St. Charles, Mo., Robert and Millie, Deer River, Minn., Frederick and Sandy, Fort Collins, Colo., Paul, Churchton, Md., and Kerry and Michele, Huntingtown, Md.; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace and Christine, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Martha Grenz
Martha Grenz, 95, Baptist Home, Bismarck, died March 5, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home, where she had been a resident since 1994. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Napoleon Baptist Church, with the Revs. Wes Gerber and Harold Mindeman officiating. Burial will be in Napoleon City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Martha was born on Oct. 2, 1902, near Streeter, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Betz) Brenneise. She was raised and educated in the Streeter area. Martha married Otto Grenz on Oct. 19, 1920, at the Flat Baptist Church in Logan County.

They lived with his parents until 1925, when they moved to Napoleon. Mr. Grenz died on June 3, 1972. Martha moved to Bismarck in 1987.

She was a member of Napoleon Baptist Church, charter member of the Women's Missionary Fellowship, Director of Children's Sunday School and Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was active in community activities and a charter member of Thursday Study Club.

Martha is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Alexzine and Bob Brooks, Minot; one sister, Freda Dockter, Mequon, Minn.; three granddaughters, Lisa Lindquist, Candy Brooks and Becky Nelson; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Lillian Galloway
BEULAH -- Lillian E. Galloway, 86, Beulah, died March 5, 1998, in a Beulah nursing home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. MST Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Kris Nyman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. MST Sunday at Knife River Care Center, Beulah, and 2-8 p.m. MST Sunday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Kathryn Schmidt, Emily Benner, Daniel Galloway, Joel Galloway, Joshua Galloway and Matthew Galloway.

Lillian was born July 1, 1911, in Upham, a daughter of Samuel and Amanda (Krueger) Baerwald. She was raised and educated in Egeland and Krem.

Lillian worked at Trinity Hospital in Minot and was a part owner and operator of The Coffee Cup Cafe in Cando. On May 10, 1939, she married Fred Galloway in Cando.

They lived in Cando until 1940 when they moved to Beach. In 1942, they moved to Beulah. She worked with her husband, Fred, as the owners and operators of Galloways Super Valu in Beulah until their retirement in 1979. Fred died Sept. 11, 1991.

Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also active in the Womens Auxiliary of the Church and was a volunteer at Beulah Community Nursing Home. Lillian enjoyed fishing with her husband.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Anita Galloway, Dickinson, and Charles and Jill Galloway, Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kathryn and Casey Schmidt, Rogers, Minn., Emily and Robert Benner, Rochester, Minn., Daniel Galloway, Henderson, Nev., Joel and Angi Galloway, North Liberty, Iowa, and Joshua and Matthew Galloway, both of Dubuque, Iowa; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ella Baszler, Underwood.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; and two sisters, Betty Weigum and Evelyn Sailer.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah Building Fund. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Harold Lowman
SENTINEL BUTTE -- Harold Lowman, 86, died March 4, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Evangelical Church, Beach, with the Rev. Arlen Lundberg officiating. Burial will be in Sentinel Butte Cemetery.

Harold was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Ulysses, Idaho, the son of Charles Joseph and Ada Myrtle (Shofstall Jones) Lowman. Harold moved with his family to Henry and Morrill, Neb.

He received his early education there and at the school of hard knocks. Harold married Anna Metzger on Nov. 7, 1940, in Belfield. They moved to the ranch northeast of Sentinel Butte, where they have resided since.

Harold served as Golden Valley County Commissioner from 1975-1981. He received the Rough Rider Rancher of the Year Award in 1992. He was also a feature poet at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nev. He also served on the Westerheim School Board and was a local election board judge.

Harold loved and lived the American West, he had a special way with dogs and had a good eye for horses. He was a freelance writer, having had some of his stories published in the True West magazine.

Harold was a very hard worker, he had a good sense of humor, and had a strong dose of common sense.

Harold was interested in genealogy, having traced his background back to the Mayflower and to George Catlin, artist of the early American Frontier. He also enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; one daughter and son-in-law, Lila Lee and Johnny Kalvoda, Mandan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Dona, Fairfield, Chuck and Marleen, Sidney, Mont., and Bill and JoAnn, Sentinel Butte; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Merle and Dottie, Portage, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harry; and one sister-in-law, Amber. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach)

Dorothy Homan
Dorothy L. Homan, 93, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died March 5, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. George's Episcopal Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kendal Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday both at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, where a vigil service will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born Dec. 7, 1904, in Courtenay, to Charles W. and Maude (Courtney) Hensel. As a young girl, her family lived at Carrington, where she was raised and graduated from Carrington High School. She attended St. Alexius School of Nursing in Bismarck.

Dorothy married Paul F. Homan on July 14, 1926, in Carrington and they made their home in Bismarck. He died March 5, 1995. She worked at St. Alexius, Lucas's and Robertson's and was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church for over 70 years.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Wanda Homan, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Paul, Fargo, John, Tacoma, Wash., Mary Grenfell, St. Louis, Mo., Mike and Joseph, both of Bismarck, and Jane Homan, Mandan; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. George's Episcopal Church. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Harold Hermanson
Harold J. Hermanson, 83, Tacoma, Wash., died March 3, 1998, in a Tacoma hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, in the spring.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Harold was born March 12, 1914, in Mandan, the son of Alfred and Mabel (Hendrickson) Hermanson. He married Rose C. Lengenfelder.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; one daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Thor Hansen, Pleasanton, Calif.; one son, Robert, Bellingham, Wash.; one niece, Emily Bachelor, Tacoma; his grandchildren, Thor Jr. (Rick) Hanson, San Francisco, Calif., Kathy Kearny, Seattle, and Michael Hermanson, Spokane, Wash.; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Colleen Wirtz, Mandan; and three brothers, Melvin, Jekyll Island, Ga., and Hank and John, both of Mandan.

Harold was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Gay Stanley
HAZEN -- Gay L. Stanley, 75, Hazen, died March 4, 1998, in a Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. MST today at Salem United Methodist Church, Hazen. Burial will be in Hazen City Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Steven, Grafton; five daughters, Cheryl Wiedrich, Beulah, Marlys Frederiksen, Montrose, Minn., Debra Jonker, Breckenridge, Minn., Betty Randall, Robinsdale, Minn., and Jacque Zinniel, Blaine, Minn.; and two brothers, Clarence, Rugby, and Roy, Circle Pines, Minn. (Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen)

Bertrice Wright
HAZEN -- Bertrice Wright, 78, Hazen, died March 6, 1998, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Park Rapids, Minn.

She is survived by one son, Joe, Beulah; four brothers, Jack, Stacy, Minn., Darrell, Duluth, Minn., Rich, Leavenworth, Wash., and Don, Tacoma, Wash.; and two sisters, Ruth Lehrke, Park Rapids, Minn., and Jane Crowell, Marion, Mont. (Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen)
