Dorothy M. Ekeren
Funeral services for Dorothy M. Ekeren, 77, Lisbon, were held on Monday, February 12, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Norman Anderson & Rev. Dave Killeen officiated. Mrs. Ekeren died on Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Lisbon Medical Center.
Dorothy M. Olinger was born on January 19, 1924 in Elliott to George and Maggie (Leach) Olinger. She attended school in Elliott.
On February 17, 1942 she married Gilbert N. Ekeren in Edgeley, N.D. Dorothy had worked at Moll’s Super Valu and Moll’s Appliance for several years. She worked for several years at Grinden’s Variety Store and a short time at the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store. She then worked at Ben Franklin for several years. She worked at Kelsen’s Bold Venture for several years. She was presently working at 4G’s part-time.
She is survived by one son, James (Mary Beth), Enderlin; two grandchildren; and one sister, Lorraine (James) Olson, Auburn, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; and three brothers.
Pallbearers for the service were Marty Lemnus, Mitch Lemnus, Jeff Ekeren, Roger Lukes, Ross Cole and Dennis Wallner.
Marj Vangsness was the organist and Paul Billing was the soloist for the service.
Interment at the Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Inc., Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Richard G. Freeberg
Funeral services for Richard G. Freeberg, 63, Jamestown, were held on Friday, February 9, 2001 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Rev. Doug Opp officiated. Mr. Freeberg died on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at his home in Jamestown.
Richard G. Freeberg was born on March 19, 1937 in Lisbon to Walter and Audrey (Moellenkamp) Freeberg. He attended Lisbon School and also served in the US Army from 1962-1966.
On May 27, 1978 he married Charlotte Scheller in Forman. Richard worked for the Fairway Store in Lisbon for a few years. He then worked at the Lisbon Creamery for several years. He worked for Otter Tail in Jamestown for 39 years. He retired in 1992.
Mr. Freeberg is survived by two brothers, Lawrence (Dorothy), Billings, Mont., and Leon (Jean), Lisbon; three sisters, Lois (Melvin) Seelye, Lisbon, Lorelle Maley, Billings, Mont., and Sandra (Bob) Hill, Jamestown.
Special music for the service was provided by David Morlock.
Interment at the Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Inc., Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Mabel H. Isley
Funeral services for Mabel H. Isley, 88, Lisbon, were held on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reb. Norman Anderson and Rev. Dave Killeen officiated. Mrs. Isley died on Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Lisbon Medical Center Nursing Home.
Mabel H. Mekvold was born on November 10, 1912 in Verona to John and Gina (Paulson) Mekvold. She attended Cleveland School and rural Verona.
On November 8, 1941 she married Maurice Isley in a double ring ceremony with her sister Amanda in Sacred Heart, Minn. They farmed near Oakes for many years. In 1980 they moved to Gwinner. Maurice died in 1992. Mabel moved to the Beverly Ann Assisted Living Center in Lisbon in 1998. She had recently entered Lisbon Medical Center Nursing Home. She had been a member of the Tri-County Garden Club.
She is survived by one son, Elwood (Ann), Burlington, Vt., one daughter, Karen (Don) Jorgenson, Lisbon; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers for the service were Brian Dethelfsen, Lawrence Dethelfsen, Tom Geffre, Josh Mlnarik, Walter Munkeby, Bob Jodsaas and Louie Haussler.
Special music was provided by Irene Hoenhause.
Jan Hansen was the organist and Joan Montgomery was the soloist for the service.
Interment at Oakes View Cemetery, Oakes.

Donald Tollefson
Funeral services for Donald Tollefson, 77, Hatton, N.D., were held Wednesday, February 7, 2001 in Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Hatton. Mr. Tollefson died on Saturday, February 3, 2001, in the home of his stepson, rural Hatton.
Donald Tollefson was born on a farm in Steele County, N.D., near Hatton, September 23, 1923 to Tom and Alice (Eidie) Tollefson. He graduated from Hatton High School in 1941.
Donald attended business college in Minneapolis, Minn. in 1942 until he became a part of the US Naval Services-Seabee unit. Donald served with the Naval forces until 1946. He graduated with an accounting degree from UND and was hired by the Internal Revenue Service in Bismarck.
In June of 1951 he married Crystal Severson.
After passing his CPA exam in 1958, he set up his own practice in Moorhead, Minn., where he practiced until his retirement in 1998.
He married Mardelle Bjerke-Naastad in June of 1988.
Donald was an active member of the Sons of Norway, the American Legion and the Gideon’s Society. He had served as president of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
He is survived by four children, Blair, Boston, Mass., Jon, Detroit Lakes, Minn., Jill (Steve) Swantz, Minneapolis, Jim, Moorhead; one grandchild; six step-children; 15 step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clark (Claire), Brainerd, Minn.; two sisters, Fern (Paul) Groethe, Fort Ransom, and Diane (Paul) Thompson, Surprise, Ariz.
Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, rural Hatton.
Bilden Funeral Home, Hatton, was in charge of arrangements.

Gunhild “Nell” Peterson
Funeral services for Gunhild Peterson, 91, Milnor, were held on Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Milnor Lutheran Church. Reverend Arthur Larson officiated. Mrs. Peterson died on Sunday, February 4, 2001 at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, Minn.
Gunhild “Nell” Odegard was born on January 13, 1910 near Rutland, N.D. to Peter and Kari (Sannes) Odegard. She grew up and attended school at Shuman #3.
On December 19, 1934 she married Axel Elmer Peterson in Britton, S.D. They farmed south of Milnor until 1954, when they bought the International Implement in Milnor. In 1960, they moved to Wahpeton, where Nell worked as a nurse’s aid at the St. Francis Medical Center in Breckenridge, Minn. and at the Leach Home in Wahpeton. In 1972, they retired and returned to Milnor. In 1996, Nell became a resident at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton. Axel died in November of 1998.
She was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church and received her 50-year pin as a member of Eastern Star. She was very active in school organizations, church circle, birthday club and senior citizens.
She is survived by one son, Allen (Joan) Peterson, Milnor; two daughters, Gloria (Jim) Toyne, Milnor, and Madeline (Neil) Herman, Fergus Falls, Minn.; three sisters, Alma Thimjon and Hannah Schutt, both of Milnor, and Caroline Maglee, Hanska, Minn.; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Axel; her parents; six brothers, Hans, John, Tony, Hans, John and Peter; and three sisters, Annie Olson, Pauline Warner and Marie Nelson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Brett Toyne, Daryl Peterson, Dallas Peterson, Corey Toyne, Todd Toyne and Jay Herman.
Honorary pallbearers were Kirsten Heinert, Teresa Goolsbey, Julie Peterson, Joni Peterson and Colette Ristvedt.
Carol Ydstie was the organist and Bob Schutt was the soloist for the service.
Interment at the Milnor Lutheran Cemetery, Milnor.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor, was in charge of arrangements.

Allen LeRoy Thomas
Funeral services for Allen LeRoy Thomas, 49, Milnor, were held on Friday, February 9, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Milnor. Reverend Jack Erickson officiated. Mr. Thomas died on Sunday, February 4, 2001 in his home.
Allen LeRoy Thomas was born on September 10, 1951 in Breckenridge, Minn., to James Lawrence and Margaret (Werner) Thomas. He grew up and attended school in Milnor. After his schooling, he worked for Martinsen’s Construction in Forman. In 1971, Allen moved to Colorado, where he worked in the mines for Climax Company.
He was united in marriage to Sherry Bobst in 1971 in Buena Vista, Colo. In 1974, he moved back to the Milnor area and worked for the Melroe Company in Gwinner. He joined the National Guards in 1976. He also worked at Wil-Rich in Wahpeton, 3 Rivers Transport as a long-haul trucker, and owned Al’s Construction. For the past several years, he had been employed by Gibbon Farms of Milnor. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Milnor and a member of the Milnor Fire Department.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his mother, Margaret Thomas-Olson, Milnor; three brothers, Larry Thomas, San Diego, Calif., Darrel Thomas, Breckenridge, Minn., and Kenny Thomas, Milnor; two sisters, Judy (Dr. Kenneth) Etterman, Sturgeon Lake, Minn., and Carol (Delton) Mehlhaff, Apple Valley, Minn.; five nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
Pallbearers for the funeral were David Martinsen, Al Cleveland, Brian Tayer, Richard Engst, Roger Gibbon and Terry Dusek.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Olson, Dale Werner, Jeff Odegard, Bret Nunn, Joe Gregor and Jay McCleery.
Eileen Lotzer was the organist for the service.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
