Margrette C. Montplaisir
Margrette C. Montplaisir, 72, Mandan, died Aug. 8, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Margrette Caroline Anderson was born on the rim of the Sheyenne River Valley in Eastedge, June 20, 1928. She was the second youngest of 11 children of Hilda and William O. Anderson. Though the 30s were dirty, it's inconceivable she was, owing to her fastidious Norwegian-American upbringing. She attended Eastedge Elementary School, and when her family moved, West Fargo High School. When Margrette was 17, World War II was over, a Seabee (Frenchy Montplaisir) came home; big bands dancing -- they swept each other off their feet. They were married Oct. 15, 1947, in Fargo. They lived in Fargo and were active in community and church organizations. In 1953, a son, Denis, 2 pounds, 2 ounces, charged into the world. A stork left Jacque on the welcome mat in 1956. Margrette worked for a time at Stevenson's dress store; she looked pretty. In 1960, the family moved to Bismarck where Margrette began work with the Gold Seal Company. She worked hard, liked her job and fellow workers very well, retiring from Gold Seal in 1978. Life was quiet and good. The family did a lot of camping, fishing and golfing. We remember the parents' high octain orange juice in the morning, and the night on Lake Sakakawea when man first stepped on the moon. She was a good mother who made wonderful milk dumpling soup, taught her children good work habits and followed their sporting events quite loudly. She had a lot of fun with Frenchy, tolerating his Norwegian jokes well, while insisting the only reason a Frenchman would marry a Norwegian woman was to be "a social climber." Frenchy died in 1978. She tried but didn't tolerate this very well, living quietly to her self for many of her last years. Those who knew her most recently liked her especially for her pluckiness and sense of humor. After struggling for many years she became very ill, and died after a brief hospitalization. She will be buried beside her friend and husband at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Margrette is survived by two sons and their wives, Denis and Patricia Montplaisir, Mandan, and Jacque and Jayne Montplaisir, Placitas, N.M.; four sisters, Adeline Julsrud, Battle Creek, Minn., Lyell Wilson, Sheridan, Wyo., Mary Keisling, Minneapolis, and Rose Norris, Lakewood, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, David, Daniel, Marc and Jill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alpha Julian "Frenchy" Montplaisir; her parents, William O. anc Hilda O. Anderson; and six siblings, Evelyn Harland, Arnold Anderson, Robert Anderson, Vernon Anderson, Clarice Klundt and Betty Bishop.

She married Henry Wegerle, Dec. 28, 1930, in Zap, and moved with her husband to Bismarck in 1951. They had no children. They were faithful members of the First Lutheran Church in Bismarck since 1957. Nathlia was widowed in August 1978. Nathlia was a hard worker, good sister, "mother" and aunt to many. She was known in Bismarck as a good neighbor and friend with a "great sense of humor," able to crack a joke in the worst of times. She was called "Grandma" by small children. Her hobbies included playing gospel hymns on her piano, reading the Bible, and walking long distances to visit friends. Nathlia resided in McKenzie with her sister, Becky, for the past 3 years. She died peacefully and without pain in a local hospital. She was a feisty lady and will be greatly missed. She is survived by one sister, Becky Couch, McKenzie; one brother and sister-in-law, Gideon and Rebecca Scheurer, Golden Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
