Mary Wagner, 91, Sterling, Colo., died Feb. 10, 2000, in a Sterling nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Richardton, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Larson, McVille, and Carol Elkins, Aurora, Colo.; three sons, Robert, Sterling, Colo., the Rev. Bill Wagner, Hazen, and the Rev. David Wagner, Levittown, Penn.; one brother, Milton Cole Jr., and one sister, Doris Huntley; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen)

Leonard Boeckel
BEULAH -- Leonard Boeckel, 63, Beulah, died March 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital, following a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at Immanual Baptist Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Howard Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Baptist Cemetery, Beulah. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. Leonard was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Beulah, the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Wolf) Boeckel. He grew up on his parents' farm and he attended a rural school for his education. Following his schooling, Leonard continued to help on his family's farm. He later owned and operated his own farm south of Beulah. On June 23, 1961, Leonard was united in marriage to Ruby Horn at the Assembly of God Church in Golden Valley. Together, he and Ruby were blessed with two children, Tammy and Leeta. Leonard farmed until the time of his death. He was active on the Mercer County Weed Board since 1981. Leonard was also a member of Immanual Baptist Church in Beulah. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ruby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Keith Moore, and Leeta and Brad Seifert; six grandchildren, Toni Moore, Keith Moore, Samantha Seifert, Brandon Seifert, Jerad Seifert and Mindi Seifert, all of Beulah; seven sisters, Irene Fischer, Ruth Hausauer, Leona Reub, Janet Morast and her husband, Melvin, all of Beulah, Marjean Boeckel and Fay Hill, both of Bismarck, and Fern Schlender and her husband, Melvin, Golden Valley; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gaylen and Carol, Beulah, and Gary and Cleo, Hazen. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents. If desired, memorials can be sent to the Immanual Baptist Church Building Fund in Beulah.

James R. Cairns
James R. Cairns, 55, Mandan, died March 27, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Bismarck-Mandan United Church of Christ, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jim Moos officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, both at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Jim was born on Sept. 5, 1944 in Appleton, Minn., the son of Howard and Alvene (Cheney) Cairns. He was raised and educated in Appleton. He married Gladys Weller in 1962. Jim graduated from Moorhead State University in 1967 and was employed by GAB Adjustment Company. In 1976, he was transferred to Bismarck, where he continued to work for GAB until 1982. He then started his own insurance adjusting firm, Noble-Great Plains in which he was still very active. In 1988, he was united in marriage to Darleen Bahm Stack. Jim was a true testimony of marriage, fatherhood and friendship. His steadfast guidance and generous spirit was cherished and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was a person who preferred the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also loved farming and looked forward to those daily activities. He was an active member of the United Church of Christ and served on many committees and in various offices. He was also a member of the Elks, Eagles and West Dakota Plains. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Darleen; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and James Otis, Omaha, Neb., and Becci Cairns and Don Braunagel, Bismarck; his stepsons and daughters-in-law, Steven Stack and Lauren Tracy, and Dean and Lori Stack, all of Mandan; two granddaughters, Jaden Braunagel and Grace Otis; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Robert Morseth, Montevideo, Minn., and Patricia and Warren Shiroma, Guston, Ky.; one brotherr, John Cairns, Appleton, Minn.; and six nieces and nephews. Ralph Arnold Christensen
MINOT -- Ralph Arnold Christensen, 71, Minot, and longtime Minot businessman, water development and flood control advocate and community leader died on March 25, 2000 in a Minot medical center of cancer. He was born on Aug. 18, 1928 in Minot, to A.M. and Amy (Whitman) Christensen. He was raised in Minot and attended Sunnyside Elementary School, Blake Middle School in Hopkins, Minn., and graduated from Gow High School in South Wales, N.Y., and from North Dakota State University, Fargo, in 1951, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and political science. While attending NDSU, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Rahjah Club, Blue Key Organization, Student Commission and was named one of the ten outstanding graduates in 1951. He attained the rank of sergeant in the Army Reserve Medical Corps. Ralph married Doris Klosterman on Feb. 14, 1954 in Minot. They made their home in Minot. He was a former owner of Culligan Soft Water Conditioning Service, Truck-Crane Rental, Minot Feed Center and was co-owner and manager of the Christensen-Thompson Ranch near Towner. Long active in civic affairs, Ralph was especially active in YMCA activities, serving as president from 1970 to 72, member of the National Council of YMCA in 1966, president of the Minot Y's Men's Club and chairman of the Minot Y's Men's Indoor Rodeo. He had served as a longtime member of the board of directors for the YMCA, and received the Layman of the Year Award from that organization in 1977. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce he served as president in 1965 as well as serving on the board of directors and on a variety of committees. He was honored by that organization in 1978 for his contributions to the Chamber of Commerce and Minot. As the chairman of the Arena Inc., he served at the forefront for fundraising efforts in the construction of the All-Seasons Arena and eventually served as the chairman of the board for the All Seasons Arena Commission. In addition, he served as the fundraising chairman for the Minot State University Athletic Dome. A longtime and active member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as chairman of the board of trustees and was a member of the board of ushers, deacons and was a member of the board of ruling elders. Ralph was a member of Rotary International and served as president, and on the board of directors and received the Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. A tireless advocate for water management and flood control, he was chairman of the Ward County Water Management Board, North Dakota Water Management Districts Association and Souris River Flood Control Citizens' Committee. He served as a technical adviser to the Army Corps of Engineers on Souris River Channel and Levee Maintenance, and was a member of the Citizens' Advisory Committee to the Upper Mississippi River Basin Committee, and served as the first Superintendent of the Souris River Flood Control. He had made numerous trips to our state and national capital to testify and lobby for funding for flood control in Minot. Ralph served as a member and chairman of the Minot Planning Commission, member of the Minot State University Board of Regents, director of Union National/First Bank, as chairman of the board of Investors Real Estate Trust and on the executive board of the AAA North Dakota Automobile Club and President's Agricultural Club at NDSU. He was a member of the Northern States Power State Advisory Board and served as chairman of the Minot and Ward County Centennial. He served on the board of directors of the Community Chest and United Fund, and was a member of the Ward County Resource Conservation and Development Committee, Central Business District Commission, Masonic Lodge and Elks Lodge. Ralph had been active in the Republican Party and had served as it's finance chairman in Ward County and in 4-H and Cub Scouts. He was a member of the Inquisitors and served on the Project Area Committee, a citizens group that acted as a liaison between the City Planning Commission and the public. Also, he served as the chairman of Operation Horizon Task Force of the Minot Chamber of Commerce, which was organized to make Minot residents aware of the major civic improvement projects in the city. He was an active promoter of hockey in Minot and had served as treasurer of the Hockey Boosters Association. He led the effort to build the first indoor ice arena and worked tirelessly to bring minor league and junior league hockey teams to Minot in the 1970's and 1980's. He was inducted into the Minot Hockey Hall of Fame. On a state basis, he was appointed by the governor to a term on the State Board of Higher Education and served as president of the board. In addition, he was appointed to the North Dakota Statuary Commission. This commission decided which two North Dakotans would be enshrined in Statuary Hall in Washington D.C. Two highlights of his career as a volunteer public servant were his being named Service to Mankind Award winner by the Sertoma Club in 1978 and his receipt of the Golden Award the highest honor bestowed by the Minot State University Alumni Association. Surviving family includes his wife, Doris, Minot; his sons, Ralph Christensen II, Minot, and Erick Christensen, Chicago; one grandchild; as well as a sister, Lois Gottlieb, La Jolla, Calif. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, at First Presbyterian Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church Organ Restoration Fund, North Dakota State Fair Foundation, or the Kent Christensen Hockey Scholarship. (Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot)

Thelma Gurke
WILLISTON -- Thelma Gurke, 82, Williston, died March 27, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at First Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery. She is survived by four children, Andrea Scott, Blanchard, Idaho, Viola Depriest, Keyport, Wash., Jerome Gurke, Duvall, Wash., and Karla Jestrab, Williston; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four brothers, Levi Parmer and Joe Parmer, both of Fargo, Warren Parmer, Boise, Idaho, and Duane Parmer, Portland, Ore.; and one sister, Viola McDonald, Mountlake Terrace, Wash. Herman J. Herrmann
KULM -- Herman J. Herrmann, 84, Kulm, died March 27, 2000 in a Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at First Congregational Church, Kulm. Burial will be in New Beresina Cemetery, rural Kulm. He is survived by one son, Dennis, Kulm; two daughters, Delaine Hildebrand, Jamestown, and Deborah Moen, LaMoure; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Deopold Herman, Kulm, and Solomon Herrmann, Jamestown. MaryJane Elizabeth Just
MaryJane Elizabeth Just, 75, Mandan, died March 26, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. MaryJane Elizabeth was born July 7, 1924, at Hanover, Pa., the daughter of Harvy C. and Mable (Forman) Stremmel. She married Anton Schneider on June 23, 1945. He died in 1979 and she married Clarence Just on Aug. 19, 1983. She is survived by her husband, Clarence; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and John Hoflen, Fargo, Carol and Bob Schmit, Mandan, and Deborah and Jerry Theisen, Bismarck; her stepdaughter, Phyllis Cerezo, Detroit; her stepson, Richard Just, Mandan; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Relda and Charley Geisey; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester C. and Mary Ann, Wilbert, Levere and Jenny, and Harold and Fay, all of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Anton Schneider; and two brothers, Ross and Reginald.

Margaret Kraft, 80, Bismarck, formerly of Strasburg, died March 28, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Baldwin E. Martz
MINOT -- Baldwin E. Martz, 79, co-founder of the accounting firm that became known as Brady, Martz & Associates, 1451 15th St. SW, Minot, died March 26, 2000 in a Minot nursing care facility. Baldwin Erwin Martz was born on July 14, 1920 to John and Paulina (Wahl) Martz at Ashley. He was raised on the family farm near Ashley and attended school in Ashley. He graduated from Ashley High School in 1938 and was the class valedictorian. After graduation, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in North and South Dakota. He attended the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1945 with his bachelor of science degree in commerce. During World War II, he worked at the nuclear plant in Hannford, Wash. He married Shirley Hubbard on Oct. 13, 1946, in Mohall. They made their home in Grand Forks, where Baldwin worked as staff accountant for E.W. Brady, Certified Public Accountants. In December of 1947, he joined the Minot accounting firm of Janz & Iverson. This firm has evolved to the present Brady, Martz and Associates, Certified Public Accountants with offices in Minot, Grand Forks, Bismarck, Thief River Falls, Minn., and East Grand Forks, Minn. He retired in 1985. He was treasurer of the Minot Country Club for many years; treasurer of the Northern Lites Council of the Boy Scouts, and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. In his youth, he was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He was a founding member of the Minot Tennis Club, and a member of the Minot Inquisitor's Club, the Minot Elks Club, and the Minot Chamber of Commerce all of Minot. He was director of the Citizens' States Bank of Mohall. He was an organizing member and early president of the North Dakota CPA Society and a council member of the American Institute of CPAs. Throughout his professional career and retirement, he was a knowledgeable and active investor, and highly successful as a trustee. He was greatly respected within the business and accounting communities for his expertise, but his forte was investing and managing assets. In his private life, he was a world traveler, visiting Europe, Asia and Africa. His hobbies included tennis, cards, dancing and gardening. He was a collector of glass, crystal, figurines and coins. His grandchildren remember his talents at checkers and card tricks. His is survived by his wife, Shirley Martz, Minot; his daughters, Steffany Martz, New York, N.Y., Marilyn Foss, Bismarck, and Lissa Rurik, Minneapolis; one son, Leslie Martz, Honolulu, Hawaii; his son-in-law, Mark Rurik, Minneapolis; his grandchildren, Matthew Becker, Emily Foss, Sean Foss, William Baldwin Rurik and Lauren Rurik; his sisters, Hildegarde Martz, Aberdeen, S.D., Gertrude Merkel, Monticello, Ill., Jean Sellers, Great Falls, Mont., Evelyn Edwins, Panama City, Fla., and Agnes Kreig and Francis Davis, both of Denver, Colo.; and two brothers, Ruben Martz, Aberdeen, and Robert Martz, Ashley. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Trinity Homes Centre Chapel, Minot, with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park Cemetery, Minot. Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. today, at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot. Memorials may be directed to the North Dakota Society of Certified Public Accountant's Foundation for the Baldwin and Shirley Martz Scholarship Fund, 2701 South Columbia Road, Grand Forks, ND, 58201. Stewart S. Schmid
Stewart S. Schmid, 73, Bismarck, died March 27, 2000 in the Baptist Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at the Baptist Home Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be at noon Friday, at North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and one hour before the service at the nursing home. Stewart was born in Pingree, on Dec. 14, 1926 to Andrew and Ella (Jacobson) Schmid. His parents moved to Maddock, in 1942, where they purchased a Red Owl Store and a butcher shop. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. In 1950 he and Blanche Rice of Maddock were married and had one son, Michael. In 1952, he began working as a Federal Meat Inspector. He was transferred to Bismarck in 1974, where he was a compliance Officer for North and South Dakota. He retired in 1982. Stewart was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He is survived by his wife, Blanche, Bismarck; one son, Michael, Bismarck; two brothers, Bob, Jamestown, and Ron, Helena, Mont.; two sisters, Hildegarde Kats, Lombard, Ill., and Doris LaBeck, Myrtle Creek, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mavis; and a brother, James, who was killed in World War II. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

GARRISON -- June Snyder, 60, Garrison, died March 26, 2000 in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Joe; two sons, Charles Varty, Lufkin, Texas, and Sandon Varty, Glenburn; two stepsons, Michael Snyder, San Jose, Calif., and Scott Snyder, Minot; one daughter, Lonna Jo Browne, Burlington; two stepdaughters, Debra Arkley, San Jose, and Celeste Snyder, California; seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jacqueline Sanofsky, Moorhead, Minn., and Kathleen Gonsalves, Beaverton, Ore. Timothy Lawrence Barton
Timothy Lawrence Barton, 35, Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., formerly of Ellendale, died May 29, 2000, in TerrVille, N.Y. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale. Further arrangements are pending at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.

Douglas Roger Bothun
Douglas Roger Bothun, 61, Mandan, died May 30, 2000. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Doug was born April 29, 1939, the son of Roy and Juliet (Tilbury) Bothun. He was raised and educated in Madison, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 27, 1959-Feb. 27, 1965. On Nov. 9, 1963, he married Diane (Stein) Helfrich. In 1984, they moved to Bismarck. He was employed as a diesel mechanic at Schultz Creamery, Cloverdale, Fleet Service, and most recently at Bismarck Trailer Center. On June 23, 1995, he and Diane Boschee were married at the Kaewala'i Church in Makena, Maui, Hawaii. Doug is survived by his wife, Diane Boschee; his mother, Juliet Bothun, Madison; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Wyndee Bothun; one daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Gary Bolstad; a stepson, Brian Boschee; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Noreen and Tom Christ, Kasey Bothun, Miranda Woodham, Krista Kuhn, Ashley, Christopher and Adam Douglas Bolstad; and one great-grandchild, Caleb Christ; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Jan; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Bob Clemensen.

Gerhard A. Christianson
HETTINGER -- Gerhard A. Christianson, 90, Hettinger, died May 31, 2000, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Clara; four daughters, Lynda Goetz, West Minster, Md., LaVonne Foss, Lemmon, S.D., Ardell Samdal, Puyallup, Wash., and Karen Fandrich, Bonney Lake, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pauline M. Dalsted
Pauline M. "Pam" Dalsted, 87, Bismarck, died May 30, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturdayat Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steven A. Sathre officiating. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Howard Snortland, LeRoy Nayes, Cliff Nygard, Bill Fahnlander, Donald Giffey and Larry Rolfson will serve as pallbearers. Pam Dalsted was born Aug. 13, 1912, at Grafton, the daughter of Martin and Olive (Anderson) Scharwark. She attended Grafton schools and graduated from Grafton High School in 1930. Pam attended and graduated with a degree in English from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1934. She taught English and business at McIntosh and Austin, Minn., Bismarck, and New Carrollton, Md. Pam and Leonard Dalsted were married in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Va., by the Rev. Willner D. Mensing on Jan. 5, 1943, while Leonard was temporarily stationed in the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C. She was a civilian technician map specialist for the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon while Leonard was overseas. Pam was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, for 53 years where she was active in Sunday school. She taught primary children for 15 years and served on the Sunday school board. She was a member of the Trinity quilters for many years and helped her mother-in-law, Struna Dalsted, participate in that activity as long as Struna's health permitted. This was a special joy to both of them and a sight to behold. Pam was a member of a unique group known as the "Birthday Club" composed of neighbors and old friends who have met monthly for over 50 years. She also enjoyed socializing with her "Sewing Club." She is survived by her husband, Leonard; one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and Lynn Coles of Carmel, Ind.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Anne, Jamestown, and John M. and Barbara, Coon Rapids, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Kristina and Robert Coles, Carmel, Ind., Nancy, Jenny and Peter Dalsted, Jamestown, and Martin and Anthony Dalsted, Coon Rapids. This family was the love of her life. She is also survived by a niece at St. Thomas; and two cousins in Minnesota. Pam was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, George Scharwark, Grafton. In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Jack Dupuy
Jack Dupuy, 81, formerly of Dodge City, Kan., died May 28, 2000, in a Mandan care center. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with the Rev. Mike Boyle officiating. Jack was born June 6, 1918, in Chanute, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. As a young man he worked in the oil fields in Oklahoma. Jack married Helen Osbourn on May 5, 1960. He was employed at Speed King Manufacturing until his retirement. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed their company when they visited. He is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Terral Dixon, Wallace, Neb.; two sons, Nathan and his wife, Pat Osbourn, Bismarck, and Dennis Osbourn and his friend, JoAnn Keeler, Franktown, Colo.; three grandchildren, Lisa Kittleson, St. Louis Park, Minn., Sandy Spesshardt, Everett, Wash., and Keith Dixon, Wallace, Neb.; and one great-granddaughter, Katie Kittleson, St. Louis Park. DICKINSON -- John Duttenhefer, 81, Dickinson, died May 29, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ann; four daughters, Joan Lago, Burns, Kan., Pattie Fiedler, Bismarck, Elaine Swope and Alice Zelinski, both of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; five sons, Donnie, Castle Rock, Colo., Myron, Dickinson, Matthew, Shakopee, Minn., Joel, Excelsior Springs, and Leon, Kansas City, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gertrude Zarr, Dodge. William Langer Ereth
William Langer "Bill" Ereth, 67, 700 15th St. N.W., Mandan, died courageously at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children, after a 19-month battle with cancer on May 29, 2000. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Al Leary officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with a full committal service by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and American Legion Post 40. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers rosary will be said at 4 p.m. today. A parish vigil will begin at 7:30 tonight, also at the funeral home. Bill was born Nov. 12, 1932, the son of Anna (Frohlich) and Anton Ereth of Solen. He derived his name from his godfather, the late honorable Senator and Former Governor William Langer. He attended school in Solen, graduating from Solen High School in 1950. After graduation he worked various construction jobs including assisting in the initial construction of Garrison Dam and what is now the Mandan Amoco Oil Refinery. He began his career with Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU) at the RM Heskett station north of Mandan in 1956, retiring in 1993 after 37 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) his entire career with MDU. He represented his co-workers on the Union negotiating team for many years, serving as local president for one term, with his ultimate goal always being the continual improvement of working conditions for his fellow employees. Bill married Alice Schwengler in Bismarck on June 3, 1961, and moved to Mandan to make a home for his wife and eventually, four children. This kind, gentle, man was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. His wisdom, common sense, kindness and generosity will forever live in all those he touched. A man of many interests, his outdoor hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time at the family cabin on the Missouri River. Winters found him indoors reading, woodworking, and agonizing over the performance of the Minnesota Vikings. There weren't many things Bill couldn't repair and he loved the challenge of finding a better and more efficient way of making things work. Bill served with the Army National Guard and Reserves from 1957-1963. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, American Legion, Mandan Eagles, and was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, where he served as an usher. Bill is survived by his wife, Alice; one daughter and son-in-law, Twyla and Stan Scott, Mandan; three sons, Curt and Dana, both of Bismarck, and Todd, Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Samantha Elizabeth and Zachary William Scott, Mandan; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Richard, Kenneth and Eleanor, all of Bismarck, Leonard and Lorena, Lloyd and Eileen, all of Mandan; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bernice and Bill Shaw, Rock Springs, Wyo., Laura and Dave Schmidt, Mandan, Hilda "Marie" Landsberger, Post Falls, Idaho, and Juanita Delkamp, Bismarck; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Diane; one sister-in-law, Ardis Ereth; and one brother-in-law, Leo Landsberger. The family prefers memorials to Christ the King Endowment Fund.
