GARRISON -- Leah Meisch, 90, Mandan, and formerly of Garrison, died Sept. 17, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at First United Church of Christ, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Bessie Neckels
DICKINSON -- Bessie Neckels, 90, Dickinson, died Sept. 15, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with burial in Grassy Butte Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Elmer; her daughter, Audrey Scott, Sellersburg, Ind.; her son, Jack, Jackson, Wyo.; one sister, Beryl Marucheck, Dickinson; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mathilda Piatz
STANTON -- Mathilda Piatz, 77, Stanton, died Sept. 16, 2000 in the Killdeer care center. Private family services will be held. Burial will take place at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Stanton. Mathilda was born May 19, 1923 at Wilton, a daughter of Christian and Karolina (Broeckel) Holwagner. She was raised and educated in McLean County. Mathilda was once married to Edward Veidt. She lived at Stanton where she worked as a housekeeper for various people. On March 12, 1949, she married Paulus Piatz at Stanton. In February 1993, she became a resident of the Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Paulus died on March 13, 1998. Mathilda enjoyed gardening, fishing and her family. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Stanton. She is survived by one son, Paul Piatz, Sheridan, Wyo.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Esther and Terry Grannis, Stanton, Carol Smith, Bismarck, Veronica and Ronald Ekstrom, Stanton, and Diana and Jeff McIlnay, Mandan; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three brothers and nine sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paulus; three sisters and one brother. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Delores E. Sailer
Delores E. Sailer, 63, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept. 17, 2000 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Her husband of 45 years, Herb Sailer, was by her side. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. tonight. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Delores was born in Hebron, on June 13, 1937, the daughter of Henry and Freida Suhr. She grew up in Hebron and graduated from high school in 1954. On July 3, 1955, she married Herb and they lived their married life in Bismarck. Delores had many gifts and talents, but most important to her was her commitment to being a good wife, mother and grandmother and devoting her life to her family and friends. She will be remembered for the depth of love for her family, her smile, her compassion, and loyal friendship. Delores loved to play bingo and many will remember, with a big smile, the night of her big win. She is survived by her husband, Herb; their two children and their spouses, Vicki and Steve Ingalls, Wisconsin, and Shannon and Tonia Sailer, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, Dalton, Austin, Torie and Trenton; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Lou and Maryanne Suhr, Leonard Suhr, Les and Shirley Suhr, Lyle and Kari Suhr, and Lloyd and Deb Suhr; and many nieces and nephews and a huge family of friends. Delores was preceded in death by her parents.

William Schaff
SHIELDS -- William Schaff, 78, Shields, died Sept. 18, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Hertha M. Schields
Hertha M. Schields, 78, Bismarck, died Sept. 17, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. A private family service will be held. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home. Hertha was born at Dodge. She was the daughter of Theo and Amelia Schields. She was a graduate of Dodge High School. Hertha received her teaching certificate at Dickinson State University, her bachelor of arts degree at the University of Pocatello and completed a year of graduate study at Moscow, Idaho. Hertha was a public school teacher for 37 years, teaching in North Dakota, Minnesota and Idaho. She loved music and was in church choir wherever she taught. She was active in teaching Bible school and playing the piano for nursing homes in areas where she taught. Hertha enjoyed life, she was always ready to share and help wherever she was needed. She especially enjoyed socializing with her sisters and brothers. She took special pride in the accomplishments of her nephews and nieces. She was deeply loved by her sisters and brothers. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by three sisters, Edna Raber and Eleanor Akidakis, both of Bismarck, Irene Brandtner, Portland, Ore.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Ted and Charlotte Schields, Bismarck, Leona Schields, Dodge; and two brothers-in-law, A.B. Sandau, Bismarck, and Leo Miller, Mountain Home, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Hilda Miller and Tillie Sandau; and two brothers, Dick Schields and Ray Schields. Norman Sebastian
HEBRON -- Norman Sebastian, 66, Hebron, died Sept. 18, 2000 in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Hebron, with the Rev. Francis dos Remedios officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan at 1:30 p.m. MDT. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. MDT Wednesday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. MDT Wednesday at the St. Ann's Church. Norman was born on Dec. 13, 1933 in Haymarsh, the son of Frank and Teckla (Wehri) Sebastian. He was raised at Haymarsh and educated at St. Clement's School. He entered the U.S. Army on July 22, 1958. While in the Army, he earned his GED. Following his discharge, on July 21, 1960, he returned to Hebron and worked for the Hebron Brick Company for 23 years. He married Eunice Allmendinger, at Haymarsh on Oct. 16, 1965. Norman worked at Great Plains and for Martin Harnisch for several years. In 1989, he began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Dickinson, where he was employed until he retired in 1999. In March of this year, they moved back to Hebron. He is survived by his wife, Eunice; one son, Aaron, Bismarck; one daughter, Monica Sebastian, Bismarck; three brothers, Bernard, Tacoma, Wash., Dennis, Hebron, and Ron, Azle, Texas; and one sister, Anita Riedlinger, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

HARVEY -- Mayvis Steedsman, 77, Harvey, died Sept. 18, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Shirley Fay Street
DICKINSON -- Shirley Fay Street, 60, Dickinson, died Sept. 15, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. MDT today at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson. She is survived by one daughter, Darlene Kostelecky, Dickinson; one son, Delbert, Groton, Conn.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Barbra Sandler, Fairland, Ind. and Linda Hammilton, Manilla, Ind.; three brothers, Robert, Russell and Calvin Mills, all of Tiptonville, Tenn. Donald G. Dotson
DICKINSON -- Donald G. Dotson, 62, Dickinson, died Sept. 18, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be in Centerville, Ohio, at a later date. Arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Helen Dreiske
Helen Dreiske, 81, Lemmon, S.D., died Sept. 19, 2000 in the Hettinger care center. Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon.

Hilda Enget
BATTLEVIEW -- Hilda Enget, 100, Seattle, Wash., formerly of Battleview, died Sept. 15, 2000 in a Seattle nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Scandia Lutheran Church, northeast of McGregor, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Walter, Minot, and Marvin, Seattle; two daughters, Thelma Luse, Seattle, and Eleanore Bauman, Seattle; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Erling Barmoen, Battleview. Julia Fink
Julia Keller Fink, 97, 410 W. Boulevard Ave., Bismarck, died Sept. 18, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon today at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church today. She was born July 25, 1903, in Grassner (Ukraine) Russia, the daughter of Michael and Barbara (Gross) Keller. Julia arrived in the United States in 1905 at the age of 2. The Keller family homesteaded seven miles northeast of Strasburg. Julia was confirmed and made her first communion on July 4, 1915, at the Rosantal Church in rural Emmons County. Julia's mother, Barbara died in 1920. In 1921, Julia, her sister Amelia, along with her father moved off the farm to Bismarck. She was employed by attorney, Scott Cameron and family as a full-time domestic. Julia married Otto W. Fink in 1928, and they had two sons, Otto Jr. in 1928 and Robert in 1930, both born in Fargo. The little family then moved to Bismarck in 1930, and Julia gave birth to Patrick in 1942, her third son. She always had a big garden at 419 N. 10th Street, the first family home bought in 1939. The fresh vegetables from her garden were sold to the St. Alexius kitchen. She loved to put up or can chokecherry jelly, dill pickles and others, and also 30 quarts of pheasant in 1942. After five years in Tacoma, Wash., the family returned to Bismarck and operated two restaurants in Bismarck. Julia made several trips to the Tacoma area to visit her sons and she had 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Julia belonged to the Cathedral Parish when the family moved to 410 W. Boulevard in Bismarck. She made large quantities of cookies for Father Cassidy's Boys' Ranch. The Baptist Nursing Home welcomed Julia on Sept. 9, 1994. Her family has many memories of their visits at the home. Julia is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Otto Jr. and Jacqueline, Kent, Wash., Verla Fink, Yelm, Wash., and Patrick William Fink and Colin McKenzie, both of Portland, Ore.; 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, on Jan. 20, 2000; one son, Robert J.; her parents, Michael and Barbara Keller; two sisters, Magadelena Glatt and Emilia Vogel; and three brothers, Frank, Matt and Pete Keller. The family prefers memorials to the St. Mary's Grade School. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Steven Fowler, 49, 719 Griffin St., Bismarck, died Sept. 16, 2000 out of state. Arrangements are pending with First Lutheran Church, Bismarck.

Bertha Goetz
HAZEN -- Bertha (Huber) Goetz, 94, Hazen, died Sept. 17, 2000 in the Glen Ullin care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Thursday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Nita Lang, Rochester, N.Y.; one son, Gordon Goetz, Sundance, Wyo.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Pauline Knopp
HEBRON -- Pauline Knopp, 69, Hebron, died Sept. 19, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron. Further arrangements are pending.

Helena A. Loose
JAMESTOWN -- Helena A. Loose, 104, Jamestown, died Sept. 18, 2000, in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodworth, with burial in Gem Cemetery, Woodworth. She is survived by four children, Lawrence, Woodworth, Lois Kapfer, Jamestown, Myrna Kourajian, St. Cloud, Minn., and Maureen Garrett, Woodworth; one sister, Amanda Discher, Bemidji, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Valens S. Meier
Valens S. Meier, 40, died Sept. 17, 2000, in a farm accident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Steele, with the Rev. Thomas Krupich officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Steele. Valens Stanley Meier was born Dec. 5, 1959, at Ashley, the son of Tony and Julia (Wald) Meier. He grew up in Steele and attended Steele High School. He was engaged in farming until his death. Valens loved spending time with children and his nieces and nephews, especially Jackie and Dillon. He was a member of the local Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed dancing, especially polkas, and just visiting with friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Tony and Julia Meier, seven sisters and six brothers-in-law, Rosemary and John Puklich, Braddock, Elsie and Jim Volk, Bismarck, Bernice and Tony Puklich, and Luella Brahos, all of Steele, Delores and Stan Fossum, Aurora, Colo., Anna and Lorin Kahl, Steele, and Deb and Craig Hester, Bismarck; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Kenny and Linda Meier, Steele, Victor and Sarah Meier, Bismarck, and Andy Meier, New England; and 24 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and two brothers, Isidore and Anthony Jr. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
