HEBRON -- Pauline Knopp, 69, Hebron, died Sept. 19, 2000, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, with burial in St. John Cemetery, Hebron. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. Pauline was born Sept. 8, 1931, near Glen Ullin, to Frank and Christina (Reisenhauer) Renner. She was raised and educated at Hebron. She married Arnold Knopp, Oct. 27, 1956, at Minneapolis. They farmed northwest of Hebron until their retirement. Arnold died April 4, 1987. Pauline moved into Hebron in August 1998. She is survived by one daughter, LaVonne Wolff, Hebron; and one granddaughter, Desirae Wolff, Hebron. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister; three brothers; and one son-in-law.

Agnes C. Laber
DEVILS LAKE -- Agnes C. Laber, 74, Devils Lake, died Sept. 19, 2000, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Clarence; six daughters, Carol Laber, Kathleen Hauser and Deanna Klein, all of Minot, Janelle Kurtz and Mary Axdahl, both of Devils Lake, and Rebecca Laber, West Nyack, N.Y.; two sons, Charles, Devils Lake, and Richard, Fargo; 14 grandchildren; and three sisters, Hazel DeVore, Oakland, Ore., Inez Haugland, Valley City, and Ruthie Urness, Park River. Nicholas A. Meier
NAPOLEON -- Nicholas A. Meier, 54, Napoleon, died Sept. 19, 2000, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with burial in Glueckstal Lutheran Cemetery, rural Tappen. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two daughters, Sheri Meier, Fargo, and Amy Hitch, Fargo; one son, Eric, Napoleon; one grandson; one brother, John Lippert, Bismarck; and one sister, Alice Lippert, Burke, Va. Leah Meisch
GARRISON -- Leah Meisch, 90, Mandan, formerly of Garrison, died Sept. 17, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First United Church of Christ, Garrison, with the Rev. Ed Zuern officiating. Burial will be in the Garrison Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services. Leah was born Dec. 23, 1909, at Medina, to Jacob and Katherina (Meidinger) Schauer. She was raised and attended school in Medina. She married Andrew Meisch in 1929 and lived in Streeter. They moved to Garrison in August of 1946. She moved to Medcenter One Care Center in November 1999. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Betty and LaVern Affeldt, Steele, and Dorothy K. Fix, Mandan; one sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Don Bloyer, Salt Lake City; one brother, Reuben Schauer, Wanatchee, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew; one son, Dale; two daughters, Marvel Mautz and Ardella Schlichting; and one granddaughter, Terriene Schlichting.

Delores Olsen
Delores Olsen, 62, Mandan, died Sept. 20, 2000, in Mandan. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Beuhler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

David Douglas Puckett
WILLISTON -- David Douglas Puckett Jr., 21, Williston, died Sept. 19, 2000, in his home after an extended battle with leukemia. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Pentecostal Church, rural Williston. He is survived by his wife, Keah Puckett; his father and mother, the Rev. David D. and Sharon Puckett, Williston; his brother, James, Williston; his grandparents, the Rev. John and Dorothy Puckett, Tucson, Ariz., and the Rev. Ira and Doris Kline, Milton, Penn.; and his great-grandparents, Franklin and Thelma Myers, Tucson. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Pauline Thielman
HAZEN -- Pauline Thielman, 95, formerly of Hazen, died Sept. 18, 2000, in the Beulah care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at Beulah Congregational Church, with the Rev. John Fanella officiating. Burial will be in Hazen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. MDT Friday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. Pauline was born May 31, 1905, at Rhein, south of Hazen, a daughter of Christian and Caroline (Jenner) Schmall. She was raised and educated in the Hazen area. Pauline worked for a rodeo photographer in Montana for a time. On Feb. 20, 1934, she married Emil Thielman at Hazen. Pauline served as a cook at various restaurants in Hazen for many years. Emil died June 30, 1971. Pauline moved to the Pioneer Park Retirement Home in 1990. On May 31, 1995, she became a resident of the Knife River Care Center, Beulah. She was a past member of English Lutheran Church, Hazen. She was a member of Beulah Congregational Church. Pauline was known in the area for her piano and accordion playing. She enjoyed gardening, particularly flower gardening. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Janet Thielman, Jamestown; two granddaughters, Tamara and Kris Lahren, Wausau, Wis., and Tania and Dennis Will, Northfield, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Thomas Lahren, and Rachel and Sarah Will; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; three brothers; and one sister.

Arnold P. Thomas
Arnold P. Thomas, 70, Brooklyn Park, Minn., died Sept. 11, 2000. Services were held Sept. 14 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Brooklyn Park, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, New Hope, Minn. He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Daniel, Sanford, Fla., and Terrance, Walla Walla, Wash.; two daughters, Sandra Geister, Darien, Wis., and Dawn Bolduc, Mora, Minn.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Henry, Bismarck, and Larry, Coon Rapids, Minn; and four sisters, Rose Becker, Champlin, Minn., Bertha Schulz, McGregor, Minn., Lu Stanley, Lovell, Wyo., and Arlene Schwartz, Cherry Hill, N.J. Philipina Wanner
MOTT -- Services for Philipina Wanner, 87, Mott, will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with the Rev. Kurtakose Nediakala officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary and wake service will begin at 7 tonight at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott. Serving as casketbearers will be Kevin, Kurt, Kelly, Kim, Brian, Shawn Wanner, Jody Kraft, Cory, Troy, Jeremy Manolovits, Debra Lepp, Nell and Jennifer Friedt. All friends are considered honorary bearers. Philipina Marthaller was born Nov. 10, 1912, at Linton, to Valentine and Katherine (Glasser) Marthaller. She attended a local country school near Linton and as a young woman began helping on the family farm. Philipina was united in marriage to Alvin Wanner on Oct. 16, 1934, at St. Placidus Catholic Church north of Mott. Following their marriage, they worked with Alvin's parents on the Wanner farm in the St. Placidus area. In 1942, they purchased a farm north of Mott which they operated until retiring and moving into Mott in1969. They moved into Alvin's mothers home which they remodeled and added on to. Philipina enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. She entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mott and Alvin entered later on. Alvin passed away on Feb. 27, 2000. Philipina died Sept. 18, 2000, in the Hettinger hospital. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Simon and Regina, Mandan, Martinand Mary Ann, Winfield, Iowa, and Alvin Wanner Jr., Mandan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Gary Beckler, Hettinger, and Donna and Terry Manolovits, Bowman; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Milton and Ethelyn Marthaller, Hettinger, and Leonard and Edna Marthaller, Fargo, and Katherine Marthaller, Dickinson; one sister, Helen Herauf, Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Sebastian; two brothers, Alvin and Rafael "Ralph" Marthaller; and one brother-in-law, Joe Herauf. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.

Erma Woodward
Erma Woodward died Sept. 19, 2000, in Tucson, Ariz. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Tucson, with entombment in Our Lady of the Desert Mausoleum, Tucson. Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at Bring's Broadway Chapel, Tucson, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight. Erma was born Nov. 25, 1911, in Sykeston, to Joseph and Barbara (Lauer) Lessner. She graduated from Sykeston High School and the New York Hair Dressing Academy in Fargo. She owned and operated her own salon in Bismarck for many years. She married Lt. Colonel Walter "Woody" Woodward in Bismarck on June 7, 1950. His career took them to bases in Tacoma, Wash., Spokane, Wash., puerto Rico, Okinawa and Anchorage. After Woody retired he served as field director for American Red Cross in Anchorage and Tucson where he retired. Woody died Dec. 7, 1987. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters, Anna Lundby, Minnie Hollingsworth and Caroline Teiger; and two brothers, Joseph and John Lessner. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the charity of your choice.

Delbert Badke
HARVEY -- Delbert "Del" Badke, 68, Harvey, died Sept. 20, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at First Lutheran Church, Harvey. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Betty; one daughter, Sharon McFarlen, Minot; two sons, Chuck, Surrey, and Fred, Sterlington, La.; five grandchildren; and one brother, Ray, Upham. Sylvia Bartels
WILLISTON -- Sylvia Bartels, 82, Williston, died Sept. 20, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Faith Lutheran Church, north of Williston. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. She is survived by her husband, Russell; one son, Howard, Glendale, Ariz.; one daughter, Elaine Johnson, Hazen; one brother, John Wicks, Eatonville, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Susan Ellingson
McHENRY -- Susan Ellingson, 84, McHenry, died Sept. 20, 2000, in the Carrington health center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, McHenry. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, McHenry. She is survived by one sister, Janette Ragan, Renton, Wash. (Evans Funeral Home, Carrington)

Regina Froehlich
DICKINSON -- Regina Froehlich, 79, Dickinson, formerly of Belfield, died Sept. 20, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Belfield. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Belfield. She is survived by five daughters, Jeannie Redmond and Betty Obrigewitch, both of Belfield, Maggie Ison, Batavia, Ohio, Delores Meyer, Rapid City, S.D., and Carol Sheahan, Chelmsford, Mass.; two sons, Ralph and Kenneth, both of Belfield; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lena Helfrich, Mott, Theresa Lantz, Dickinson, Eva Kuylen, Sidney, Mont., and Frances Kordonowy, Billings, Mont.; and three brothers, Clement and Ralph Binstock, both of Dickinson, and Vince Binstock, South Heart. Amos B. Gietzen
GLEN ULLIN -- Amos B. Gietzen, 73, New Salem, formerly of Glen Ullin, died Sept. 20, 2000, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the church, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Amos was born Sept. 28, 1926, in rural Glen Ullin, to Henry and Eleanor (Wehri) Gietzen. He was raised and educated in rural Glen Ullin. He was a lifetime farmer and rancher north of Glen Ullin. His passion in life was horses. He loved being around and working with his "babies." He also enjoyed spending time at rodeos and horse sales. He married Anna Hartmann on June 5, 1971 at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin. Amos loved singing with the Sacred Heart Choir of which he was a member for many years. He also enjoyed providing a summer home at the "Ideal Farm" for nieces, nephews and other members of the family. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him. He was a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Glen Ullin Saddle Club, Glen Ullin Weighing Association, Glen Ullin Credit Union and Morton County Sheriff's Posse. He is survived by his wife, Anna; one sister, Caroline Sebastian, Hebron; three brothers, Walter, Glen Ullin, Cyril, Wahpeton, and Ed, Van Nuys, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and five sisters. The family would prefer that memorials be directed to the Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.

Margaret L. Gillen
Margaret L. Gillen, 93, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died Sept. 12, 2000, at the center. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Inurnment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Margaret was born Sept. 1, 1907 at Cylon, Wis., the fifth of six children born to Anna and William Gillen. They moved to North Dakota when she was 3 years old. They homesteaded on a farm near Burt in Hettinger County. She completed her elementary education at a rural school near Burt and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Bismarck. She held a B.S. degree from Valley City State Teachers College. Margaret had 10 years teaching experience and 22 years as an administrator and supervisor in the field of education. She taught a rural school in Hettinger County, as well as at Baldwin, Robinson and Moffit. She was a supervisor of student teachers and taught in the Dickinson schools. She also taught and supervised student teachers in the Fargo schools. She was deputy county superintendent of schools in Burleigh County from 1941 to 1945, and county superintendent of schools in Burleigh County from 1945 to 1955. She worked as a claims representative for the S.S. Administration in Fargo from 1955 to 1959. She was deputy superintendent of schools in Cass County from 1961 to 1970. She was appointed executive secretary of the North Dakota Teachers' Fund for Retired Teachers from 1970 to 1976, retiring on July 1, 1976. After retiring, she made her home in Billings, Mont., and San Diego, Calif., until she returned to Bismarck in 1990. She entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in May 1997. She was a member of Church of Corpus Christi. Margaret was an interesting and caring lady with a fantastic memory. She was a special aunt to her nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. She is survived by five nieces, including Frankie Lunn, Bismarck; six nephews, including Gerald Shafer, Bismarck; and one sister-in-law, Kathryn Geller, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings, Florence, Gerald, Mary, William "Bud," and Jim; one niece, Valerie Scott; and two nephews, Bard and Rod Gillen. Mary T. Henn
LINTON -- Mary T. Henn, 91, Linton, died Sept. 20, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Frieda M. Horning
Frieda M. Horning, 85, St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, died Sept. 20, 2000, in the care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Todd Hylden officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. today, at St. Vincent's Care Center, and from 4 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Frieda M. Christmann was born March 21, 1915 at Hazen, to William and Theresa (Hintz) Christmann. She was raised and educated in Hazen and taught school for a brief period. Frieda married Edward A. Horning on May 14, 1944 at Hazen. They resided in Stanton until 1959 when they moved to Bismarck. She baby-sat for many children in Stanton and Bismarck. She entered St. Vincent's Care Center on May 3, 1993. Edward passed away on March 16, 1993. Frieda is survived by her guardian, her nephew and wife, Duane and Marilyn Kessler, Baldwin; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Frances Christmann, Steele, Albert and Mardella Christmann, Hazen, Sam Christmann, Driscoll, and Maggie Christmann, Bismarck; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Lorena Pfingsten, Beulah, Paulina Christmann, Washington, D.C., Sylvia Major, Olympia, Wash., and Rose Mary and Ron Loutzenheiser, Payson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; one brother, Ruben Christmann; and three sisters, Ella Christmann, Lillian Kessler and Albina Stevens.
