NAPOLEON -- Howard J. Hunkler, 91, Napoleon, died Sept. 21, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Further arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

A.L.C. Keller
The Rev. A.L.C. Keller, 92, Bismarck, died Sept. 20, 2000, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Delores A. Olsen
Delores A. Olsen, 62, Mandan died Sept. 20, 2000, at her daughter's home in Mandan. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charles Axness officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. There will be no visitation at the church. Delores was born Aug. 23, 1938, in Mandan, the daughter of Albert A. and Eileen M. (Tank) Steffenson. Raised on the Steffenson Ranch along the Missouri River, between Price and Sanger, she attended Oliver County grade school and graduated from Mandan High School. She attended Dickinson State Teachers College and taught at the Highland School in Morton County where she met her future husband. She and Leland Olsen were married Aug. 17, 1958 and they made their home on the farm southwest of Mandan. Delores was very proud to have been a steward of the land along with her parents and husband. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Heart River Circle, the Highland Homemakers and served as a 4-H leader as well as on the board of Mor-Gran-Sou REA for six years. She was employed at Country General from 1978 until August 1999 when a second bout with cancer began. She made many long and lasting friendships while working there. Her hobbies were woodworking and tole painting on canvas which she enjoyed doing with her friends. She is survived by her husband, Leland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Char, Mandan, and Craig and Doriene, Mound City, S.D.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynette and Allen Burch, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Beth and Brad Allen, Mandan; and her 12 beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Beulah Olson
HETTINGER -- Beulah Olson, 91, Hettinger, died Sept. 19, 2000, in the Hettinger medical center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday, at First Congregational Church, Hettinger. Burial will be in Hettinger Cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Margaret Oberg, Hettinger; one son, Kenneth, Hettinger; one brother, Donald Redman, Van Wert, Iowa; one sister, Anabel Sheets, Corydon, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Albert W. Swanson
HARVEY -- Albert W. Swanson, 75, Harvey, died Sept. 21, 2000, in his home. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Robert Voigt
HARVEY -- Robert Voigt, 80, Harvey, died Sept. 20, 2000, in a Minot nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; three sons, Charles, Corpus Christi, Texas, Robert, Bemidji, Minn., and James, Northwood; two daughters, Jean Voigt and Rose Mary Voigt, both of St. Paul, Minn.; one brother, Art, Minneapolis; two sisters, Jeanette White, Milbank, S.D., and Lila Knittel, Rapid City, S.D.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bertha Luella Bagley
CENTER -- Bertha Luella Bagley, 88, Grand Island, Neb., formerly of Center, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Grand Island care center. Arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Erhard Benz
HAZEN -- Erhard Benz, 81, Hazen, died Sept. 24, 2000 at his home of natural causes. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Keith, Mark and Greg Schneider, Travis, Scott and Brandon Benz. Military honors will be provided by the Clark Grosz American Legion Post 189 of Hazen. Visitation hours will be from 6:30-9 p.m. MDT Wednesday, at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Erhard was born Dec. 5, 1918 at Expansion, a son of Matthias and Rosina (Morast) Benz. He was raised and educated north of Hazen. Erhard served in the U.S. Army from May 29, 1942 until receiving his honorable discharge on Oct. 27, 1945. He served during World War II in the Philippines and New Zealand. On Dec. 2, 1946, he married Hilda Morast at Wibaux, Mont. They lived and farmed north of Hazen their entire married lives. Hilda died Sept. 15, 1988. In 1994, Erhard moved into Hazen where he has since lived. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen and the VFW. He loved spending time with his grandsons. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Randy Schneider, Beulah; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Janice Benz, Hazen; six grandsons, Keith and Marsha Schneider, Bismarck, Mark and Jennifer Schneider, Des Moines, Iowa, Greg Schneider, Dickinson, Travis and Jennifer Benz, Kansas City, Kan., Scott Benz, Grant, Neb., and Brandon Benz, Hazen; one great-granddaughter, Mariya Schneider; one brother, Julius Benz, Bismarck; four sisters, Lydia Hilz, Garrison, Martha Reich and Pauline Koehler, both of Hazen, and Leah and Helmuth Pfennig, Beulah. Erhard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hilda; three brothers, Herbert, Friedebert and Henry; and one sister, Rose. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. (Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen)

MILNOR -- Arthur Byron Christiansen Jr., 77, Milnor, died Sept. 23, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Milnor Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Joy; three daughters, Paula Mrachek, Alexander, Shelly Williamson and Dana Kortie, both of Fargo; one son, Peter, Milnor; three sisters, Doris Mastony, New Jersey, Janice Anderson, Valley City, and Mary Kroshus, Wahpeton; and one brother, Guy, Milnor; and 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. BEULAH -- Lorena Fischer, 76, Beulah, died Sept. 24, 2000 in the Beulah care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Ethel R. Gruenberg
Ethel R. Gruenberg, 99, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Sept. 25, 2000 at the care center. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Kenneth A. Hermanson
Kenneth A. Hermanson Sr., 69, 1205 Dakota Trail, Mandan, died Sept. 24, 2000 in a St. Paul, Minn. hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Military rites will be provided by the Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and the American Legion Post 40. Visitation begins Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Visitation will continue from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and continues at the church at noon on Thursday. Kenneth Hermanson, the son of Alton and Elizabeth (Boehm) Hermanson, was born Aug. 2, 1931 in Mandan. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1949. On Oct. 2, 1950, he married Patricia Moser in Mandan. Ken was a member of the North Dakota National Guard serving during the Korean War. Ken worked for the North Dakota Workers Compensation Bureau for 27 years and Barney's Standard Station, Mandan, for 10 years. After his discharge from the service, he was an active member of the American Legion, attending all meetings. Ken loved people and was always ready to start up a conversation with anyone he met. He was always interested in what was going on in the neighborhood and enjoyed being outside visiting with his neighbors. He was often called the "Neighborhood Greeter." While in the neighborhood visiting, he always had a treat (candy) for the children he met along the way. He will be greatly missed by all his relatives, friends and neighbors. Ken is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David, Mandan, and Kenneth Jr. and Georgene, Hazen; one granddaughter, Jodi Richter and her husband, Jason, Wahpeton; and one great-grandson, Hunter Richter, Wahpeton. He was preceded in death by his parents. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Ruth A. Johnson, 87, Bismarck, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Ethel Johnson
RAY -- Ethel Johnson, 92, Ray and Bismarck, died Sept. 23, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Ray Lutheran Church, with burial in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Ray. She is survived by her seven children, Don, Chandler, Ariz., Joanne Aardahl, Ray, Rod, Bismarck, Phyllis Amb, Beaverton, Ore., Jerry, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Marilyn Holland, Beaverton, and Judy Olson, Ray; and 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. WILLISTON -- Laura King, 103, Williston and Epping, died Sept. 24, 2000 in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Irene Janet King
Irene Janet (Rene) King, 76, Bloomington, Minn. and formerly of Bismarck, died Sept. 24, in Bloomington. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Lakewood Mausoleum Sanctuary, Minneapolis. Entombment will be in Lakewood Mausoleum. She is survived by one son, William; her daughters, Lee Schneider, Lynette Butler; six grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Louis Rodgers; and her sisters, Lorraine Maletta, Arlene Forbes and Beverly Beer. Victor Kittelson
WILLISTON -- Victor Kittelson, 85, Williston, and formerly of Zahl, died Sept. 23, 2000 in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at United Lutheran Church, Zahl, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. He is survived by two sisters, Clara Larson, Salem, Ore., and Anne Knutson, Williston. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston)

Magdalena Schuch
DICKINSON -- Magdalena Schuch, 96, Dickinson, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Alfred J. Schwindt
DICKINSON -- Alfred J. Schwindt, 67, formerly of Dickinson, died Sept. 12, 2000 at his home in John Day, Ore. Services will be held at 3 p.m. MDT Thursday, at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending.

Arlis D. Simmons
Arlis D. Simmons, 66, Bismarck, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a local care center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. George's Episcopal Church, with the Revs. Michael Horn and Kendall Johnson officiating. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Arlis D. Simmons was born Dec. 23, 1933 at Medina, to Henry Riley and Amelia (Martel) Simmons. He was raised and educated at Medina, worked on the family farm, and was employed with many construction companies until his move to Bismarck in 1961. On Feb. 24, 1962, Arlis married Barbara Mazigian, in Bismarck. Arlis was employed by the University of Mary, until his retirement in February of 1996, due to ill health. He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church where he was an usher. He was also a member of United Commercial Travelers. Arlis is survived by his wife, Barbara, Bismarck; his son, Jody Simmons, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Rose Simmons, Monument, Colo.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosie and Merle Kenny, Phyllis and Gordon Kemmet, all of Bismarck, and Betty Lou and Paul Ouellette, Lammore, Calif.; and many special nieces and nephews.
