CARRINGTON -- Mae B. Tollefson, 76, Carrington, died Sept. 24, 2000 in a Carrington care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington, with burial in Carrington Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Edwin; one son, Charles, Surrey; three daughters, MeriDee Johnson, Williston, Valerie Bibow, Minot, and Lisa Larson, Austin, Minn.; one sister, Helene Cole, Las Vegas, Nev.; and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. ELLENDALE -- Anna Marie Nitschke Ulmer, 73, Ellendale, died Sept. 23, 2000 in an Ellendale care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Ray and one stepdaughter, Shanda Cossette, West Fargo. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at Streeter Seventh-day Adventist Church,, with burial in Miller Cemetery, rural Streeter. She is survived by four daughters, Angelica Morales, Anna Cruz, Adriana Cruz and Lisa Kellerhals; her mother, Lyrrell Toth, Missoula, Mont.; one brother, Steven Toth, Fontana, Calif.; four sisters, Jennifer Davern, Frisco, Texas, Denise Talarico, Missoula, Mont., Lisa Roy, Belgrade, Mont., and Claudia Wahl, Sandy, Utah. He is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Sandra Jansen, Adrian, Gloria Fidge, Rosco, S.D., and Kathy Ova, Odgen, Utah; two stepchildren, Arleen Roehrich, Mandan, and Arley Paul Heer, Bismarck; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gordon, Bismarck. BEULAH -- Lorena Fischer, 76, Beulah, died Sept. 24, 2000 in a Beulah care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Beulah, with burial in Peace Cemetery, south of Beulah. She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Irene Scheid, Hazen, and Loretta Weil, Fargo; three sons, Gene Weil, Bismarck, Duane Weil, Mandan, Robert Fischer, Zap; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Neuberger, Golden Valley, and Leona Wahl, Bismarck; and two brothers, Reuben Zeiszler, Beulah, and Ray Zeiszler, Fargo. MOTT -- Thomas Friedt, 68, Mott, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Fort Collins, Colo., hospital. Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott.

DICKINSON -- Matthew "Matt" Grosz, 63, Dickinson, died Sept. 26, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Ethel Roberta Gruenberg
Ethel Roberta Gruenberg, 99, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Ethel was born Sept. 9, 1901 at Pelzer, S.C., the daughter of James and Daisy Dunaway. She married Charles Milo Clark from McKenzie on March 6, 1919 in South Carolina, while he served in the U.S. Army during World War I. After Charles was discharged, they lived in several states before settling in Bismarck in 1934. They had 13 children. Charles died in 1947. Ethel married William Gruenberg on Aug. 19, 1950, and moved to Minot, where they lived until William died in 1983. She moved back to Bismarck in 1984 and entered the nursing home in 1993. Ethel is survived by seven daughters and four sons-in-law, Mabel Taix, Bismarck, Jenny Dobson, San Diego, Calif., Hazel and Jack Galvin, Milwaukee, Ore., Ruth and Wade Hull, Clackamas, Ore., Joann and Wayne Moore, Sparks, Nev., Peggy and John Nyberg, Gardner, and Mildred Haas, Hanna, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Barb Clark, Puyallup, Wash., and Robert and Florence Clark, Grain Valley, Mo.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, sisters, brothers and four children, Charles Jr., Julius, baby Clark and Helen Servant. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Donald J. Hohbein, 70, Tacoma, Wash., and formerly of North Dakota, died Sept. 25, 2000 in Tacoma. He is survived by his wife, Edna; one son, Duane, Tacoma; his daughters, Virginia Moore, Port Orchard, Wash., and Lynn Mattocks, Rainier, Wash.; his brothers, Ray and John, both of North Dakota, Sam, Puyallup, Wash., Ralph, Seatac, Wash., Marvin, Missouri, and Dallas, Wisconsin; his sisters, Lila Zinnel and Mona Christianson, North Dakota, and Della Haddad, Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren. RAY -- Ethel Jacobson, 92, Ray and Bismarck, died Sept. 23, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ray Lutheran Church, with burial in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Ray. She is survived by her seven children, Don and Audrey, Chandler, Ariz., Joanne Aardahl, Ray, Rod and Carol, Bismarck, Phyllis Amb, Beaverton, Ore., Jerry and Jordyce, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Marilyn Holland, Beaverton, and Judy and Ron Olson, Ray; and 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Ruth AlLena Johnson
Ruth AlLena Johnson, 87, Bismarck, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from noon-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Ruth was born on Dec. 19, 1912 in Canfield Township, Burleigh County, the daughter of Charles B. and Nora (Michelsen) Wilmot. She attended school grades 1 through 10 at Canfield, Burleigh County, and 11 through 12 at Wilton, graduating in 1931. She married Alf E. Johnson at Bismarck on Dec. 19, 1934. Alf died in 1996. From 1934 to 1960 they lived in the Wilton and Regan area where she cooked for coal miners at the mines that her husband managed and later farmed with her husband. In 1961, they moved to Bismarck, where Ruth was employed by J.C. Penny. After retiring, she worked part-time at Kirkwood Plaza until 1986. Ruth enjoyed traveling, crocheting, gardening and canning. She is survived by her children, V. Larry (Susan) Johnson, Alverado, Texas, Vivan (Paul) Sprynczynatyk and Keith Johnson, all of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Suzie Salinas, Larry Johnson, Rod Sprynczynatyk and Clinton Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Brynn and Brent LaKosky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alf Johnson, one granddaughter, Brenda LaKosky, one sister, Charlotte Strand and her parents. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

WILLISTON -- Laura King, 103, Williston and Epping, died Sept. 24, 2000 in a Williston hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston, with burial in Hillside Memory Gardens. She is survived by two daughters, Lucy May Hanson, rural Williston, and Elsie Anne Stevens, Springbrook; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-granddaughter. BINFORD -- Halvor Larson, 82, Binford, died Sept. 24, 2000 in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Bethany Free Lutheran Church, Binford, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Glenna Mae; four sons, Galen, Aneta, Bradley, Cooperstown, Lennis, Fargo, and Blaine, Cooperstown; three daughters, Loretta McConnell, Hazen, Colleen Boisjolie, Seattle, Wash., Sonya Bendickson, Binford; four sisters, Johanna Kurtti, Fargo, Ann Storkson, Everett, Wash., Vivian Avdem, Pekin, Gladys Marquart, Lakota; three brothers, Melvin, Fargo, Trygve, Orange, Calif., and Sivert, Binford; and 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Anna Margrethe Ocker
Anna Margrethe Ocker, 65, Billings, Mont., and formerly of Bismarck, died Sept. 24, 2000 at her home surrounded by her family. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, at Dahl Funeral Chapels, Billings. There will be a service at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at Nathaneal Church, Dagmar, with burial in the Nathaneal Cemetery. Marge was born in Dagmar, Mont., on July 16, 1935, the daughter of Lars J. and Laura (Hansen) Larsen. In 1953, Marge graduated from Medicine Lake High School in Medicine Lake, Mont. She lived in Scobey, Mont., Bismarck, then Bozeman, Mont., until she moved to Billings, Mont. in 1984. Marge was very proud of her work as an independent seamstress. She worked with many interior decorating firms and customers in the Billings and Bozeman areas. One of Marge's many qualities was always giving of herself and putting her friends and family first. She had the gift of making people smile and in return was admired and respected. Marge will always be remembered for her love of people, animals and her passion for flowers. She is survived by her son, Greg, Billings; her daughter, Dianna Ocker-Fieldstead and husband, Bill; daughter, Laura Ocker; her grandson, Taylor Woods, all of Edmonds, Wash.; along with her brothers, Svend "Bud", Carl, Lars and Hans Larsen. Marge was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jimmy. She will be laid to rest next to them at the Nathaneal Cemetery, Dagmar. The family wishes to thank Big Sky Hospice for the care they gave Marge, and wishes that memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice, 3021 6th Ave. N., Billings, MT, 59101.

MCCLUSKY -- Martha Reiser, 92, Moorhead, Minn., and formerly of McClusky, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Moorhead care center. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

GARRISON -- Wayne O. Rodahl, 64, Garrison, died Sept. 25, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

DICKINSON -- Magdalena Schuch, 96, Dickinson, Sept. 25, 2000 in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with burial St Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson. She is survived by one daughter, Florence Bogner, Dickinson; two sons, Edward, Marlow, Okla., and Al, Mandan; and 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

DICKINSON -- Alfred K. Schwindt, 67, formerly of Dickinson, died sept. 12, 2000, in John Day, Ore. Services will be held at 3 p.m. MDT Thursday, at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; seven children, Debbie Schwindt, Mandan, Laurie Urban, Terry Schwindt and Barbara Caperton, all of Dickinson, Corinne Schwindt, Belfield, Becky Hutzenbiler, Gladstone, and Paul Schwindt, Flasher; one stepdaughter, Tammy Sanders, Portland, Ore.; 18 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Anton T.
