Virginia Sitter, 64, died Sept. 24, 2000 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of St. Anne, with the Rev. Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. that evening. Virginia was born Dec. 3, 1935 in McIntosh, S.D., to John and Katherine (Ziegler) Senftner. She was educated in McIntosh, graduating from McIntosh High School in 1953. Following high school, she attended St. Alexius School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1956. She and Jack Sitter were married on July 6, 1957. She was employed at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, Sheyenne Hospital in Valley City, Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, and Garrison Nursing Home in Garrison. She is survived by her husband, Jack, Bismarck; two sons, Charles, Robins, Iowa, and David, Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Mary Jo Smith, Williston; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Jacqueline; three brothers and one sister. The family requests memorials to St. Alexius Hospice. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

WATFORD CITY -- Mary Torstenson, 84, Watford City, died Sept. 26, 2000 at her home. Arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

HETTINGER -- Fred Zimmerman, 77, Hettinger, died Sept. 24, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Thursday, at United Methodist Church, Hettinger, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his sons, Daniel, Dickinson, and Jeff, Davenport, Wash.; his daughters, Debra Braseth, Mayville, and Joan Zimmerman, Minneapolis; two grandchildren; and one brother, Rudolph, Boise, Idaho. E. J. Akers
E. J. Akers, 93, Hampton, Iowa, died Sept. 23, 2000, in a Hampton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of Christ, Hampton, with burial in Hampton Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Charles, Hampton; two daughters, Marcia Dudden, Reinbeck, Iowa, and Barbara Kline, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. GARRISON -- Marvin Bauch, 71, Garrison, died Sept. 27, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

GARRISON -- Audrey Berquist, 92, Garrison, died Sept. 27, 2000, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Church of Christ, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Mary Boehm
MCCLUSKY -- Mary Boehm, 86, New Hope, Minn., formerly of McClusky, died Sept. 27, 2000, in a New Hope nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Lyle Els
BEULAH -- Lyle "Del" Els, 65, Beulah, died Sept. 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital of natural causes. Private services will be held. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. Lyle Delbert Els was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Laird, Colo., the fourth of five children of Carl and Alice (Steiner) Els. He was raised and educated in Wray, Colo., graduating from Wray High School in 1953. In 1955, he became employed with Century Geophysical Corp. of Roundup, Mont., and was employed with the company for 22 years. Del moved to Beulah in 1975 and became employed with Ost Sanitation Service. He purchased the business in 1983, changing the name to Els Sanitation. Del owned this business until 1997, when he sold it due to diminishing health. On July 25, 1986, he was united in marriage to Joyce D. Thomas at Sundance, Wyo. Del was a loving husband and father, and a devoted grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed the company of his "special buddies," the family pets, Tinker, Tuffie, Puttsie and Peattie. He is survived by his children, Terry Els, Casper, Wyo., and Carla Els, Elk Grove, Calif. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Joyce; and five step-children and their spouses, Melissa Thomas, Bismarck, Jeff and Lisa Thomas, Little Rock, Ark., Jayme and Heidi Thomas, Kelso, Wash., Tracy Thomas, Bismarck, and Jeremy Thomas and his friend, Tristin Mann, Bismarck; two step-grandchildren, Damian and Delaney Thomas, Kelso, Wash.; one sister, Leona and Bruce Wilson, Wray, Colo.; and three brothers, Byron and Leah Els, Benkleman, Neb., Herb and Louise Els, Bethany, Okla., and Ivan and Bertha Els, Marion, Ohio. Del was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Jacqueline.

Thomas Friedt
MOTT -- Thomas Friedt, 68, Mott, died Sept. 25, 2000, in a Ft. Collins, Colo. hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott. Further arrangements are pending at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott.

DICKINSON -- Matthew Grosz, 63, Dickinson, died Sept. 26, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

WALHALLA -- Ena Graveline Snydal, 87, Walhalla, died Sept. 25, 2000, in a Grand Forks hospital. She is survived by four sons, Charles Graveline, Naperville, Ill., Bill Graveline, Grand Forks, Bob Graveline, Bismarck, and Ted Snydal, Hilton Head Island, S.C.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Magnus Eyrikson, Walhalla; and one sister, Emily Burt, Hawaii. Veronica Volk
STRASBURG -- Veronica Volk, 99, Strasburg, died Sept. 27, 2000, in the Strasburg care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by three sisters, Regina Orley and Anne Anderson, both of Milwaukee, and Peggy Scheffield, Vancouver, Wash. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Bertha Luella Bagley
CENTER -- Bertha Luella Bagley, 88, Grand Island, Neb., formerly of Center, died Sept. 25, 2000, in a Grand Island care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT today, at Center Methodist Church, with the Revs. Eugene Bagley and Rod Tkach officiating. Burial will be in Bagley Family Cemetery, north of Center. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Bertha Luella was born Jan. 1, 1912 in Oliver County, the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Greeley) Linn. She married Percy Oliver Bagley on June 12, 1932. Percy died Dec. 2, 1992. Bertha is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Arnold Meyhoff, Center, and Luella and Melvin Boeckel, Grand Island; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Clifford Linn, Sturgis, S.D.,; and one sister, Jennie Bagley, Winchester, Tenn. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)
