Lollie B. Reichert
Lollie B. Reichert, 98, formerly of Menoken, died Aug. 24, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Hildegard's Church, Menoken, with the Revs. George Dukart and David Richter officiating. Burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Racine, Wis. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Lollie was born Feb. 12, 1902 in Burlington, Wis., the daughter of Louis and Mary Ann (Trimberger) Jacob. She received her education in Burlington, Wis. Her family moved to Racine, Wis., where she met Leo W. Reichert. They were married on Nov. 10, 1927. Leo preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1936. In 1990 she moved to Menoken where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bob Aberle. In January of 2000, she entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, where she received compassionate care until her death. She excelled at crossword puzzles, enjoyed playing cards, fishing and mostly spending time with family. Lollie will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Nancy Reichert, Racine and Estero, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Bob Aberle, Menoken, Donna and Emmett Wenzel, Florence, Wis. and Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Rosella Hansen, Mesa, Ariz., Irene Wintis, Wauwatosa, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, Barbara Silbernagel, Robert Aberle, Roger Aberle, Ronald Aberle, Richard Aberle, Randy Aberle, Randy Reichert, Liz Turnock, Julie Rallo, Dr. Mark Wenzel, Daniel Wenzel, Mary Wenzel and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and five brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Central High School, Bismarck, or St. Catherine's High School, Racine, Wis. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Lois Struwing, 101, Bismarck, died Aug. 25, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Catherine M. Vik
Catherine M. Vik, 83, Baptist Home, Bismarck, died Aug. 25, 2000. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Arrangements are pending with Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Irene Ahlgren
PARSHALL -- Irene Ahlgren, 85, Parshall, died Aug. 25, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Parshall, with burial in Parshall Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Freddie; one daughter, Phyllis Peters, Epheata, Penn.; two sons, Wayne, Bismarck, and Donald, New Providence, Penn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Betteridge, Pasco, Wash. Raymond Charles Brevik
WILLISTON -- Raymond Charles Brevik, 78, Williston, died Aug. 27, 2000, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. He is survived by one son, Charles, Mobile, Ala.; his daughter, Karen Blackburn, Roanoke, Wash.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don, Missoula, Mont., and Glenn, Zahl. Maxine Buchholz
LEHR -- Maxine Buchholz, 51, Lehr, died Aug. 27, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church, Lehr. Further arrangements are pending at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Verneda Burke
Verneda Burke, 70, Bismarck, died Aug. 26, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Jenks officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and will continue one hour before services. She was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Port Clinton, Ohio, the daughter of Arthur L. and Gertrude (Witt) Roberts. She was raised and educated in the Port Clinton area. Verneda married Albert F. Burke on June 12, 1948, in Port Clinton. She worked at various jobs in Ohio, including delivering newspapers for the Toledo Blade and the News Herald. Mr. Burke died in 1976. Verneda moved to Montana in 1988, to be with her daughter and their family, and moved to Bismarck in September 1997. Verneda was a very loving, nurturing mother. She was an easy-going woman and an avid animal lover, who enjoyed crafts, playing cards, country western music, and being with family. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Terry Herrmann, Bismarck; one grandson, A.J. Herrmann, Bismarck; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Amy, Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert F. Jr., Kenneth J., and Terry L.; and one brother, Lester Christiansen.

Robert A. Espe
Robert A. Espe, 69, Bismarck, died Aug. 27, 2000, in the Mandan hospital. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Norris F. Fritchie
HURDSFIELD -- Norris F. Fritchie, 91, Hurdsfield, died Aug. 26, 2000, in the Harvey hospital, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Harvey. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, withburial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hurdsfield. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour before services. Norris was born May 5, 1909, to Fred and Petrina (Slind) Fritchie, in a sod house near Hurdsfield. He grew up there, attended rural school, and was a lifelong resident and farmer. He would spend winter months with his son, Neal, in Huntsville, Ala. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Norman and Carol Fritchie, Centerville, Minn., and Neal, Huntsville; two grandchildren, Scott Fritchie and his wife, Louise, Minneapolis, and Carla Fritchie, Albuquerque, N.M.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and Beryl Rhone, Hurdsfield. Norris was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Elmer; and one sister, Bernice Lorz. Memorials are preferred to St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey.

Mercia Fuher
EDGELEY -- Mercia Fuher, 87, Edgeley, died Aug. 27, 2000, in the Jamestown hospital. Arrangements are pending at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.

Catherine Gruye
Catherine Gruye, 95, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Aug. 27, 2000, in the nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Genevieve A. Gutknecht
Genevieve A. Gutknecht, 69, Minot, died Aug. 26, 2000, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Ernie Hockett officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. today. Visitation will continue Tuesday until service time. Genevieve was born May 12, 1931, at Beulah, the daughter of Lester H. and Mildred (Pulver) Bowers. A graduate of Beulah High School, she worked at the Hazen hospital prior to her marriage to William Gutknecht on April 2, 1955. They lived in Hazen and Mandan before making their home in Minot in 1967. While living in Mandan, she was employed as a nurses aid at Mandan Hospital. She was active in the First Congregational Church in Minot. A daycare provider for many years, she devoted her life to God and caring for her family. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lona and Glenn Olson, Billings, Mont.; her sons and daughters-in-law, Kim and Jane, Washburn, and Kevin and Christie, Minot; her grandchildren, Heath and Leslie Olson, Hailey Olson, Cody, Bryce and Summer Gutknecht, and Bowen and Brea Gutknecht; one great-grandchild, Cody William Olson; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Diarrheal and Charlene Bowers, Delbert and Gloria Bowers, and Wallace and Judy Bowers; one sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Myron Bornemann; her special friend, Vi Ressler; and her faithful canine companion, Jingles. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, who died April 3, 1993; her parents; and her sister, Pearl Welk.

Rudolph A. Hummel
GARRISON -- Rudolph A. "Rudy" Hummel, 89, Garrison, went to heaven on Aug. 25, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Dick Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Garrison Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Rudy was born Aug. 11, 1911, in Garrison, to Jacob and Fredericka (Steinwand) Hummel. He attended school in Garrison. Rudy was united in marriage to Edna Metz, on June 26, 1935, and they made their home in Garrison. Rudy worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp, the Burns and Wretling Coal Mine, Big Red Furniture Store, McGray and Benshof's Hardware, Farmers Union Elevator and Cunningham's Department Store, when he finally retired in 1975. Rudy was a lifelong member of the Garrison Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Papa Rudy loved spending time with his family and greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rudy's favorite things to do included gardening, camping, playing cards, visiting and especially fishing. He was a kind and gentle man who was greatly loved by everyone who knew him. Rudy's lifelong dream of graduating from high school was fulfilled in May when he received his high school diploma. Rudy and Edna celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June surrounded by lots of family and friends. Thankful for sharing his life are his daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Ernie Varty, Bismarck; his grandson, Terry Varty, Minneapolis; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kim and Mike Reinisch, Apple Valley, Minn.; his great-grandchildren, Meagan and Andy Reinisch, Apple Valley; his foster daughter, Carol (Metz) Barlow and her husband, Jack; granddaughters, Melissa, Michelle and her husband, Mike; great-grandchildren, Brian and Katie, all of Columbia, S.D.; and Rudy's brother, Edwin, Garrison. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Olga and Hulda; and his brothers, George and John.

Daniel Iron Road
CHERRY CREEK, S.D. -- Daniel Iron Road, 34, Cherry Creek, died Aug. 24, 2000, in Eagle Butte, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cannon Ball Elementary School Gym. Further arrangements are pending at Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.

Mary Knoll
Mary Knoll, 83, 605 First St. N.E., Mandan, died Aug. 27, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Tuesday. A Knights of Columbus rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30, both at the funeral home. Mary was born Sept. 16, 1916, at Mandan, to Nicodemus and Mathilda (Geiss) Bender. She was raised in Mandan and received her elementary education from St. Anthony Catholic School at St. Anthony. On June 1, 1937, she married Alfonse H. Knoll in Mandan, where she has resided all her life. She was an active member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Mandan Elks Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters. Mary was known for her friendly outgoing personality with a sense of humor, love of life and laughter. Her talent as a cook, making everything from scratch, will be cherished by her family. Her fondness for her grandchildren will be remembered and dearly missed. She is survived by her husband, Alfonse; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara, Rockford, Ill.; one daughter, Karen Knoll, Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen and Debbi Knoll, Carrolton, Texas, Mark and Julie Knoll, Naperville, Ill., Kathy and Todd Bridges, Baraboo, Wis., and Carol and Steve Behling, Rockford; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Alexandra, Michael and Sarah; three brothers, Joe, Mandan, Adam, Harlingen, Texas, and Nick, Billings, Mont.; and two sisters, Isabella DeBord, Lincoln, Mont., and Ottillia Smith, Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kermit Murphy
Kermit Murphy, 80, Pelzer, S.C., formerly of Jamestown, died Aug. 26, 2000, in a Pelzer hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown. He is survived by one daughter, Germaine Murphy, Pelzer; six sons, Darsey, Grand Rapids, Minn., Barney, Purz, Minn., Brent and Blaine, both of Jamestown, Casey, Arkansas City, Kan., and Sheldon, Piedmont, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Audrey Mell, Phoenix. P. F. Volk, 88, Bismarck, died Aug. 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Wednesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Catherine Cozy
GARRISON -- Catherine "Kate" Cozy, 91, Garrison, died Aug. 28, 2000 in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at First United Church of Christ, Garrison, with burial in Great Stone Cemetery, rural Benedict. She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Kuhn, Shelby Township, Mich.; three grandchildren; one sister, Lois Ellingson, Minneapolis; one brother, Walter Boozenny, Hardin, Mont.; and four great-grandchildren.
