He is survived by his wife, Violet; a daughter, Vicki Burgess, Rugby; one son, Anthony Burgess, Willow City; his mother, Ruby Burgess, Minnewaukan; two brothers, Keith, Fortine, Mont., and Leland, Eureka, Mont.; two sisters, Janice Olson, Maddock, and Sharon Grossman, Esmond. RUGBY -- Mary Duchscher, 84, Rugby, died Oct. 19, 2000 in the Rugby hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Little Flower Catholic Church, Rugby, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by her children, Roger, Rugby, Jane Roth, Felton, Del., and Joyce Taigen, Rugby; five brothers, Tony, Ludvig and Pius Hoffert, all of Rugby, Pete Hoffert, Minot, and Phillip Hoffert, Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Margaret Heilman, Rugby, Rose Hager, Balta, and Barbara Piatz, Devils Lake; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Elsie Bejatha Halvorsen
Elsie Bejatha Halvorsen, 80, Sacramento, Calif., and formerly of the New Leipzig and Elgin area, died Oct. 2, 2000 in Sacramento. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gill; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Neyla Laub, Mesa, Ariz., and Carol Hintz, Dickinson; six stepsisters, Emma Hintz, New Leipzig, Elizabeth Keller, Tacoma, Wash., Louella Hochhalter, Elgin, Ruth Iblings, Shreveport, La., Lillian Fuchs, Carson, and Rose Meuchel, Dickinson; four stepbrothers, Theodore Hochhalter, Lemmon, S.D., Herbert Hochhalter, Cordes Lakes, Ariz., Alvin Hochhalter, New Leipzig, and Otto Hochhalter, Dickinson.

Bertha A. Hollaar
HULL -- Bertha A. Hollaar, 86, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Hull, died Oct. 18, 2000 in Mesa. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Hull Christian Reformed Church, Hull, with burial in Hull Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Allen, Moorpark, Calif., and Robert, Chandler, Ariz.; three daughters, Jenice Kashey, Mesa, Lois Reub, Belgrade, Mont., and Mary Kay Hoeksema, Condor, Alberta, Canada; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Herbert DeBoer, Linton. Bert Kemmit
MCCLUSKY -- Bert Kemmit, 80, McClusky, died Oct. 18, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at McClusky Baptist Church, with burial in McClusky City Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Bert was born on Sept. 19, 1920 near Pickardville, to John and Christine (Staus) Kemmit. He grew up and attended rural school south of Pickardville. He married Olga Herr on Feb. 7, 1941 in McClusky. They lived and farmed northeast of McClusky in Lincoln Dale Township. They retired and moved into McClusky in 1986. He was a member of the McClusky Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School treasurer. He served on the Lincoln Dale Township clerk for 38 years, McClusky City Cemetery sexton for 10 years, second district County Assessor for 16 years, and as a school district clerk. He is survived by his wife, Olga; one son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and MaryAnn, Turtle Lake; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Adam, El Cajon, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John and Albert; and his sisters, Lena and Alice. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)

Kathryn Kottsick
Kathryn Kottsick, 78, Mandan, died Oct. 18, 2000 near Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Martha Mattoon
RIVERDALE -- Martha Mattoon, 94, rural Riverdale, died Oct. 18, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Riverdale Community Church, with burial in Matton Family Cemetery, rural Riverdale. She is survived by one daughter, Margery Standley, Tigard, Ore.; one son, Glenn, Zephyrhills, Fla.; one sister, Bertha Buchanan, Aloha, Ore.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Joseph McLaughlin
HAZEN -- Joseph McLaughlin, 62, Hazen, died Oct. 19, 2000 in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Hazen. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Mary Ann Mischel
Mary Ann Mischel, 94, Bismarck, died Oct. 18, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at noon Monday, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Pauline H. Neuhart
SHEYENNE -- Pauline H. Neuhart, 89, Sheyenne, died Oct. 19, 2000 in the Carrington health center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Grandfield Lutheran Church, Sheyenne. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Julia H. Nymoen
CARRINGTON -- Julia H. Nymoen, 94, Minneapolis, Minn., and formerly of Carrington, died Oct. 14, 2000 in Minneapolis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at St. James Lutheran Church, Crystal, Minn. Burial will be in Carrington Cemetery. She is survived by one son, John Nymoen, Robbinsdale, Minn.; one sister, Elfrida Claveland, Portland, Ore.; and two grandchildren. (Evans Funeral Home, Carrington)

Jean B. Rhoten
Jean B. Rhoten, 58, Baptist Home, died Oct. 19, 2000 in a local hospital. A private family service will be held at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Sgt. Mary Rosario, 21, Fort Hood, Texas, died Oct. 17, 2000 in Arkadelphia, Ark., of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Frieda Schell, 73, Mandan, died Oct. 18, 2000 in the Mandan care center. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, at Mandan United Methodist Church. Further arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Pauline Bertsch
HARVEY -- Pauline Bertsch, 86, Harvey, died Oct. 20, 2000, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by five sons, Larry and Allen, both of Minot, Jerome, Rugby, Gerald, Minneapolis, and Ronald, Bismarck; and two daughters, Viola Kalkopf, Townsend, Wis., and Sheila Stamm, Fargo. Elizabeth Brings Them
FORT YATES -- Elizabeth Brings Them, 74, Fort Yates, died Oct. 18, 2000, in a Mobridge, S.D. nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with the Rev. Terry Wipf officiating. Burial will be in Reeds Cemetery, Fort Yates. A wake service will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Nutritional Center, Fort Yates, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, also at the center. Elizabeth was born March 19, 1926, at Cannon Ball, to Alphonso and Alma (Red Ears) Bear Ghost. She was raised and educated in Cannon Ball. She married Sampson Brings Them in 1950 in Cannon Ball. They moved to Fort Yates in 1951 where they made their home and raised their eight children. She loved her church and enjoyed being involved in community affairs and functions. She is survived by two daughters, Colette Brings Them, Duluth, Minn., and Doris Brings Them, Minneapolis; six sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard and Faye, Cleveland, Darrell, Alfred and Allen, all of Minneapolis, Ronald, Bismarck, and Robert, Jamestown; two adopted sisters, Isabella Standing Crow, Fort Yates, Adele Little Dog, Fort Yates; over 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two nieces, Joan Peterson and Alma Clark; and one nephew, Fred Clark, all of Cleveland, Ohio. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Sampson, in 1985; one brother, Michael Bear Ghost; and two sisters, Dorothy and Eleanore Many Horses. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, McLaughlin, with burial in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; three sons, Cody, Minot, N.D., Bert, Norfolk, Neb., and Boyd, Eveleth, Minn.; six grandchildren; four brothers, Marvin, Wanblee, Melvin, Sturgis, Hugo and Bob, both of Kadoka; one sister, Alvina Parkinson, Kadoka; one stepbrother, Derrold Munger, Wall; and one stepsister, Deloris Griffin, Groveland, Calif. Kathryn Kottsick
Kathryn "Katie" Kottsick, 78, Mandan, died Oct. 18, 2000, as a result of injuries sustained in a farm accident near Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Women of the Moose Chapel Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a rosary at 7:30 and a parish vigil at 8. Kathryn was born May 1, 1922, at St. Anthony, the daughter of Joseph and Franziska (Hoffman) Paul. Raised and educated there, she married Harry Kottsick on June 22, 1943. They farmed southwest of Mandan until 1974 when they moved into Mandan. Always an energetic and active lady, Katie was first a farm wife and then worked as an independent wallpaper hanger and painter. She also enjoyed fishing, bingo, playing cards, especially pinochle, as well as crocheting and reading. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by those who survive her, including three daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Nick Eckroth, Kuna, Idaho, Edith and Edward Kuntz, Sacramento, Calif., and Sue and Wally Melchior, Rapid City, S.D.; two sons, Kenneth Kottsick and his wife, Lori, Mandan, and Raymond Kottsick and Jnae Pringle, Rapid City; 11 grandchildren, Debra Benson, Shannon Grismore, Jerome Kottsick, Rayetta Chaussee, Sheila, Edward and Michael Kuntz, Greg and Cassie Kottsick, and Bradley and Ryan Melchior; seven great-grandchildren, Crystal, Clinton and Christian Benson, Cory Grismore, Dylan and Mariah Kottsick, and Brian Chaussee; one great-great-grandchild, Ashley Benson; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret and Pete Fried, Clara Markel, and Patricia and Steve Mildenburger, all of Mandan; six brothers and eight sisters-in-law, Jack and Leona Paul, Bismarck, George and Francis Paul, Linton, Nick and Rosemary Paul, Cody, Wyo., Fabian and Hildegard Paul, Mandan, Peter and Eileen Paul, St. Anthony, Tony and Elaine Paul, Mandan, and Monica and Francis Paul, Mandan; one brother-in-law, Clarence Kottsick, Seattle; and a special friend, Otto Barth, Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry, who died June 2, 1991; her son, Jerome; and three brothers, Joseph, John and Leo Paul.
