HETTINGER -- Gery Hanna, 60, Hettinger, died Oct. 24, 2000 in the Hettinger care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with burial in Zion Ellingson Cemetery, south of Bucyrus. He is survived by three sons, Tim, Dickinson, Scott, Jamestown, and Shawn, Hettinger; one daughter, Maggie Sabo, Reva, S.D.; and five grandchildren. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger)

Alvina Heisler
DEVILS LAKE -- Alvina Heisler, 72, Devils Lake, died Oct. 23, 2000 in a Grand Forks hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, with the Rev. James Gross officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. that evening. Visitation will continue from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service. Alvina Hieb was born July 30, 1928 at rural McClusky, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Keebler Hieb. She was reared and educated at McClusky. After schooling she resided in Bismarck until 1947. She was united in marriage to Leonard Heisler on Sept. 13, 1947 at Harvey. They made their home in Harvey until the spring of 1960, when they moved to Devils Lake. She was employed at Majestic Cleaners and the Lake Region Lutheran Home. She also assisted her husband at the Bell Tone Hearing Aid Center in Devils Lake. They retired in October of 1991. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Altar Society and the VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Leonard; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and special friend, Leslie Weiss, Mandan, and Dave and JoAnn, Devils Lake; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Rick Engen, Grand Forks, and Nancy and Dave Ford, Webster; 14 grandchildren, Christine (Tom) Heisler, Steven Heisler, Jodi (Jeremy) Jensen, Jenny Heisler, Michael and Michelle Engen, Todd Swanson, Amy (Darin) Lee, Ryan Swanson, Neil (Jill) Ford, Meredith (Robert) Apodaca Brown, Jessica (Robert) Henderson, Lindsey Ford and Stewart Ford; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annette Weiser, Spokane, Wash., and Leona Seilinger, Wing; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Emma Werner, Ida Werner and Adeline Conger; and two brothers, Emil and Art.

GARRISON -- Camille Hosie, 91, Garrison, died Oct. 23, 2000 in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

MINOT -- Bernice Huberty, 94, Minot, and formerly of York, died Oct. 25, 2000 in a Minot nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Petri Lutheran Church, rural York. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds.

CARRINGTON -- Eldo Lee, 85, Carrington, died Oct. 25, 2000 in the Carrington health center. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Tia Martin
Tia Martin, 16, Thornton, Colo., and formerly of Mobridge, S.D., died Oct. 23, 2000 in Thornton. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at United Congregational Church, Mobridge. Further arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.

Kathryn Sathren
LINTON -- Kathryn Sathren, 92, Linton, died Oct. 24, 2000 in a Minot nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Magdalene Schantz
Magdalene Schantz, 71, St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, died Oct. 25, 2000 in the center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today at St. Vincent's Care Center, 2:30-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight at Weigel Funeral Home, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Magdalene (Schaner) Schantz, the daughter of John and Rose (Wetsch) Schaner was born Nov. 6, 1928 in Odense. She was raised and educated in the Solen area where she attended rural school. On Oct. 8, 1946, she married Michael Schantz in Mandan. Maggie worked for Lewis and Clark Hotel and the Mandan Public Schools as a custodian for 15 years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Verein. Maggie was a warm, caring, loving, giving and very gentle woman. She enjoyed doing crafts and would share many of her crocheted and embroidered items. She loved to go to rummage sales and flea markets collecting many bargains. Maggie was a very good cook and loved baking cookies for the holidays. Maggie is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Patty, Mandan; four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Monte Tausend, Lincoln, Sandra and Casper Kraft, Bismarck, Judy and Kelly Kopp, Mandan, and Pamela and Greg Moos, Mandan; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Frank Schaner and friend, Shirley Fischer, California, and Daniel and Bev Schaner, Mandan; two sisters, Felicia Schantz, San Pablo, Calif., and Theresa Schaner, Mandan, and special friend, Jim Killingsbeck, Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Michael, who died on March 13, 1992; one son, Kenneth and two grandchildren, Nicole and Jesse Schantz; and one great-grandchild, Camden Schmidt; and one brother-in-law, Henry Schantz. Evelyn E. Schimke
UNDERWOOD -- Evelyn E. Schimke, 90, Underwood, formerly of Turtle Lake, died Oct. 23, 2000 in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with burial in Turtle Lake Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Milton, Eau Claire, Wis.; one daughter, Karen Avery, Portland, Mich.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Neil Heringer, Butte; and two sisters, Esther Klokonos, Fairbault, Minn., and Maxine Heringer, Salem, Ore. Theresa Schmidt
Theresa "Terri" Schmidt, 54, Bismarck, died Oct. 24, 2000 in her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Church of St. Mary's. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. today and Friday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. tonight and Friday evening, all at Bismarck Funeral Home. Theresa was born on March 1, 1946, the daughter of Paul and Ottilia (Herauf) Fleckenstein, in Richardton. She attended rural school southwest of Dodge, until the family moved to Dickinson in 1957. She then attended St. Joseph's Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1964. She attended college at the University of Mary. She married Robert P. Schmidt on Oct. 23, 1965 at the Church of St. Mary's, Bismarck. She was employed by the Department of Human Services until her death. She enjoyed children, sewing, flowers and loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She is survived by four sons and one daughter-in-law, Troy Schmidt, Cory (Wendy) Schmidt, all of Bismarck, Rance Schmidt, Fort Campbell, Ky., and Shawn Schmidt, Bismarck; two grandchildren, Conner and Brianna, and many wonderful nieces and nephews; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Paul (Geri) Fleckenstein, Tony Fleckenstein, Leo (Rosella) Fleckenstein, Larry (Judy) Fleckenstein, and Peter (Lucy) Fleckenstein; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula (James) Schmidt and Eva (Simon) Scheet. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Gus, and one sister, Rose. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Church of St. Mary's in Terri's name. WILLISTON -- Borghild Schmidt, 84, Williston, died Oct. 23, 2000 in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Hillside Memory Gardens. She is survived by one son, Darrell, Williston; five daughters, Ruby Herland, Alamo, Marlene Jeannotte, Williston, Joyce Duffey, Holdrege, Neb., and Mary Schmidt and Penny Rondestvedt, both of Williston; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four sisters, Inga Halvorsen, Elva Hanson, Doris Hering and Sylvia Orth, all of Williston. Peter Thomas
DRISCOLL -- Peter Thomas, 77, Driscoll, died Oct. 25, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Church of Ascension, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Alvina M. Trousdale
MOTT -- Alvina M. Trousdale, 82, Mott, died oct. 23, 2000 in the Mott care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with the Rev. Kuriakose Nediakala officiating. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. MDT Friday and 9-10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott. A rosary service will be said at 7 p.m. MDT Friday at the funeral home. Special music will be provided by Pat Schwartz, organist and Diane Friedt, soloist. Serving as casketbearers are Tom and Ginger, Jay, and Allison Trousdale, Margo, Heather and Nichole Jorstad, and Dennis Kooren. A memorial has been established to the Mott Ambulance. Alvina M. Sauer was born Sept. 11, 1918 in Lind, Wash., to Nathaniel L. and Margaret (Roth) Sauer. She later moved to Burt and graduated from Mott Lincoln High School. After graduation, she attended nurses' training in San Francisco, Calif., where she earned an RN degree. On Oct. 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bobby" Trousdale, at Mott. Since then they have made Mott their permanent residence. Through their 50 years of marriage, they loved to travel and entertain family and friends. Alvina had a great appreciation for Art and enjoyed sharing it with others. In 1991, Alvina entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott. Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Tom and Ginger Trousdale, Bismarck; her daughter, Margo Jorstad, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Jay and Allison Trousdale, Heather Jorstad, all of Bismarck, Nichole Jorstad, Washburn; two sisters, Gertrude Moody, California, Delores and her husband, Delbert Schafer, Watford City; and one brother, Daniel Sauer and his wife, Gladys, Littleton, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby on March 12, 1998, and a son-in-law, Duane Jorstad.

Sheldon Denis Wold
Sheldon Denis Wold, 60, Spokane, Wash., died Oct. 1, 2000, in a Spokane hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. An open house will follow at 1409 N. 18th St., Bismarck. Sheldon D. Wold was born in 1940 in Juanita, to Clayton and Dorothy (Sandvold) Wold. He worked at the Bismarck Tribune from 1958 to 1959, then joined the U.S. Air Force and served until 1964. Mr. Wold worked as a fireman in Bismarck for two years as well as for the U.S. Postal Service and AT&T. He began working for the Burlington Northern Railroad as an electronic technician in 1968, moving to Jamestown, then to Billings, Mont., and finally to Spokane, Wash., where he retired after 20 years. Sheldon was cremated Oct. 6 at the Neptune Society of Washington and will be interred at the veterans cemetery in Mandan. Sheldon is survived by his mother, Dorothy Wold, Bismarck; one daughter, Twila and her husband, Rick Dockter, Pierre, S.D.; two sons, Micah, Palermo, Calif., and Anthony, Lynnwood, Wash.; four brothers, Monte, Bismarck, Roland, and his wife, Jean, Spearfish, S.D., Randy Wold, and Tom and his wife, Tracy, Plymouth, Minn.; five sisters, Carol Fuller, Detroit Lakes, Minn., Darla Vixie, Springfield, Ore., Linda and her husband, Kevin Bolin, Yakima, Wash., Nila and her husband, Marshall Pudwill, Bismarck, and Tana and her husband, John Charvat, Mandan; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton, in 1996; and his grandson, Tyler Dockter, in May 2000.

Martha Zastoupil
DICKINSON -- Martha Zastoupil, 85, Dickinson, died Oct. 24, 2000 in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Friday, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Dennis; Dickinson; one daughter, Linda Hoewt, Panama City., Fla.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Sylvester, Thomas, and Ted Binek, all of Dickinson; and two sisters, Monica Krance, and Mary Marsh, both of Trenton, Mo. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Anna Catherine Backman
Anna Catherine Backman, 93, Bismarck, died Oct. 25, 2000, at her daughter's home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mission Evangelical Free Church, Wilton, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Public visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Anna was born Sept. 9, 1907 at rural Wilton, the daughter of Wasyl and Xenia (Kassian) Hryckow. She attended first through eighth grade at Wilson Township school. She married Lawrence Backman on June 11, 1924 in Bismarck. Following their marriage, they farmed on the family homestead near Wilton. Lawrence died in 1972 and following his death, Anna continued to live on the farm until 1991. Due to failing health, she lived with her daughter, Rosemary Johnson, in Wilton. In 1998 Anna's daughter and husband, Beverly and Earl Estes, moved to Bismarck from Tucson, Ariz., from which time Anna resided with them until her death. During Anna's time of living on the farm, her home was always open to visitors for sharing a cup of coffee or a meal. She was known for her delicious homemade bread and rolls. Her favorite pastime was reading. Anna learned the Russian language from her family and the Swedish language from her mother-in-law. Anna was active in the Mission Evangelical Free Church and the Women's Ministries of Wilton, where she was a member. She is survived by three sons and four daughters-in-law, Melvin and Annette, and Arvid and Helen, all of Wilton, and Sidney and Marlene, and Margaret Backman, all of Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rosemary Johnson, Wilton, and Beverly and Earl Estes, Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister-in-law, Emily Backman, Mandan. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Norlin; an infant son; two daughters, Genevieve and Alvina; four brothers; three sisters; one son-in-law, Chester Johnson; and one step-grandson, Ray Estes.

Raymond H. Braun
Raymond H. Braun, 79, Mandan, died Oct. 25, 2000, at his residence. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

BEULAH -- Margaret Goetz, 86, Beulah, died Oct. 26, 2000, in the Hazen medical center. Arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Carl Grenz
HAZELTON -- Carl Grenz, 83, Hazelton, died Oct. 25, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Home Chapel, Linton. Burial will be in Hazelton Cemetery. He is survived by one brother, Elmer, Hazelton; and five sisters, Hilda Schiermeister and Erna Grenz, both of Hazelton, Doris Kozak, Semi Valley, Calif., Lucille Volk, Las Vegas, and Betty Lou Schumann, Carrington.
