Hulda E. Klein
Funeral services for Hulda E. Klein, 87, LaMoure, were held on Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. Reverend John Estrem officiated. Mrs. Klein died on Friday, January 25, 2002 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure.
Hulda Elfreida Satreaas, daughter of Elling and Larsine (Vadstein) Satreaas, was born on November 14, 1914 on the family farm northeast of LaMoure, where she grew up. She attended school in Gladstone Township. She was baptized and confirmed at High Prairie Lutheran Church near LaMoure. She graduated from LaMoure HIgh School and attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck. She spent one year working in aircraft and shipyards during World War II. Hulda held positions at the A.S.C. office in LaMoure and the F.H.A. office in Ellendale. She also worked for Froedert Grain and Malting Company and the grain exchange in Minneapolis.
On November 19, 1950, she married Albert Klein at High Prairie Lutheran Church near LaMoure. The couple continued to farm in the area until their retirement. She entered the St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, in November 2001. She was a very active member of the Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Klein, LaMoure; three sons, Bruce (Crystal) Klein, LaMoure, Dr. Dale (Debbie) Klein, Mandan, and Gary (Sheila) Klein, LaMoure; four sisters, Ann Busche and Ruby Klima, both of LaMoure, Margrit Bjerkrem, Great Falls, Mont., and Hardis Kupfer, Bismarck; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Art Satreaas.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all of Hulda’s grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hird, pianist Marcia Young and soloist Darlene Olson.
Interment at Rosehill Cemetery, LaMoure.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure, was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur L. Ford, Jr.
A graveside service for Arthur L. Ford, Jr., better known as “Peep”, will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m. at the Enderlin Cemetery. Reverend Leon Zavadil of First Lutheran Church in Enderlin will officiate. Armstrong Funeral Home of Enderlin is in charge of arrangements. A full obituary for Mr. Ford was published in the Mar. 11, 2002 issue of the Gazette.
Lenora Cushing
Memorial services for Lenora Cushing, 84, Moorhead, were held on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Edgewood United Methodist Church, Fargo. Mrs. Cushing died Tuesday, April 30 in Whitinsville, Mass.
On December 28, 1942, she married Rev. Ralph D. Cushing. Together they served many churches in Minnesota and North Dakota.
She is survived by her husband Rev. Ralph Cushing, Moorhead; three sons, Dr. Ralph D. (Dr. Barbara) Cushing, Detroit, Mich., Dan (Puffi) Cushing, Fargo, formerly of Lisbon, and Rev. D. Stanley (Regina) Cushing, Whitinsville, Mass; two daughters, Anne, Grand Forks, and Lenora, Boston, Mass; a brother Rev. George Mallory, Halifax, Nova Scotia; two sisters, Ruth Cuming, Stony Creek, Ontario and Jean (Roy) Anderson, Burlington, Ontario; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Ava Lorraine Waldhalm
Funeral services for Ava Lorraine Waldhalm, 89, Enderlin, were held on Saturday, May 25, 2002 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Enderlin. Father James McKinney officiated. Mrs. Waldhalm died on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Ava Lorraine Wilson, daughter of Annie Muriel Wilson, was born on November 8, 1912 in Sheldon. She attended Sheldon School.
On June 27, 1932, she married Clayton Joseph Waldhalm in Sheldon. Mr. Waldhalm died October 26, 1964. She lived in Enderlin and was a member of St. Patrick’s Altar Society.
She is survived by nine daughters, Elaine (John) Hardebeck, Lisbon, Carole (Morry) Wavra, Vergas, Minn., Pat Hanna, Omaha, Neb., Janice (Donald) Redmond, East Helena, Mont., Sharon (Harley) Lautt, Enderlin, Jerrilyn (Roy) Dunham, Frazee, Minn., Mary (Vernon) Buhr, Enderlin, Linda (Kenny) Grant, Valley City and Allison (Kevin) Killoran, Burlington, Ky.; two sons, Jeff (June) Waldhalm, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Brian (Karen) Waldhalm, Las Vegas, Nev.; 31 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband; and a granddaughter, Michelle.
Pallbearers for the funeral were her grandsons.
Music was provided by organist Sylvia Schlagel and soloist Nicole Harriger.
Interment at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Enderlin.

Palmer R. Daub
Funeral services for Palmer R. “Polly” Daub, 89, Enderlin, were held on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mr. Daub died on Friday, May 24, 2002 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Palmer R. Daub, son of William and Pauline (Torbenson) Daub, was born on November 20, 1912 in rural Enderlin. He grew up on the family farm and attended Moore School, rural Enderlin.
On September 26, 1937, he married Margaret Christopherson in Sisseton, S.D. They lived in South St. Paul, Minn., where he worked at Swift & Catill until 1943. They farmed near Kragnes, Minn. for three years before moving to Nome, N.D. in 1946 where he trucked gravel until retiring in 1975. They moved to Enderlin in 1964. They wintered in Arizona for 18 years. He entered Maryhill Manor in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Daub, Enderlin; two daughters, Katherine (Ronald) Torbenson, Enderlin, and Judy (Mike) McDonald, Burnsville, Minn.; one brother, Roy Daub, Devils Lake; one sister, Madeline Fraedrich, Carlton, Minn.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Clifford, Willard, Dewey and Glen Daub.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Shane McDonald, Dean McDonald, Amy McDonald, Nate McDonald, Lori Kaber, Donna Dick, Julie Stolz and Sirena Jankowski.
Music was provided by organist Shirley Hanson and soloist Willard Lee.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.

Donald Anderson
Funeral services for Donald Anderson, 49, Valley City, were held on Friday, October 4, 2002 in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Valley City. Reverend Gerard Braun officiated. Mr. Anderson died Tuesday, October 1, 2002.
Donald Edward Anderson, son of Wiley and Ethel (Fredook) Anderson was born on October 25, 1952 at Lisbon. He attended St. Catherine’s School and later graduated from Valley City High School. Donald worked at many occupations including his own trucking business. He retired in the early 1980s because of illness.
On April 17, 1995, he married Mary E. Fischer, in Maryvale Convent near Valley City. The couple made their home in Valley City and Donald entered the Sheyenne Care Center April 29, 2002. Donald was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City. He was a talented musician and artist.
He is survived by his wife Mary E. Fischer, Valley City; one daughter, Lucinda Marie, Phoenix, Ariz; two grandchildren; his mother, Ethel Anderson, Ogden, Utah,; one brother, Robert Anderson, Oklahoma; and one sister, Carol (Stan) Reilly, Morgan, Utah; eight step-children Judith (William) Hanson, Litchville, Barbara (Reed) Boschee, Bismarck, Veronica Fischer (Randy Trader), Fargo, Theresa (Curtis) Borchert, Ada, Minn., Ruth (Larry) Haugrud, Perhum, Minn., Raymond (Kari) Fischer, Fargo, Linda (Adrian) Dvorak, Bismarck and Rudolph Fischer, Finley, N.D.; and eighteen step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Valley City.
The Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home of Valley City, was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence R. Papenfuss
Funeral services for Clarence R. Papenfuss, 76, Glenfield, N.D., were held on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at Glenfield Lutheran Church, Glenfield, N.D. Lay Pastor Russell Christiansen officiated. Mr. Papenfuss died on Friday, September 27, 2002 at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, N.D.
Clarence Raymond Papenfuss, son of Frank and Constance (Bendickson) Papenfuss, was born October 9, 1925 on a farm near Glenfield, N.D. He attended school in Glenfield. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving during World War II until 1946. He returned home to farm. He worked for 20 years at the Peavey Elevator Company in Glenfield.
On February 5, 1964, he married Eunice Saxberg of New Rockford, N.D. They lived in Glenfield where Clarence was a member of the Glenfield Lutheran Church and the Fadness-Walen V.F.W. Post #9068.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Papenfuss, Glenfield; one son, Larry (Susan) Papenfuss, Hutchinson, Kan.; two daughters, Laura (Rusty Kollman) Harding, Carrington, and LuAnn (Richard) Sitte, Lisbon; seven grandchildren; one brother, Norman Papenfuss, Carrington; three sisters, Inez (Paulmer) Slind, Poulsbo, Wash., Elsie Hoffman, Minneapolis, and Elaine Felt, Edmunds, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ervin, Wilford and Garold Papenfuss.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Jason Fallen, Clarence Peterson, Gary Peterson, Mark Harding, Randy Kollman and Jerry Tufte. Honorary pallbearers were all men in attendance.
Music was provided by organist Nancy Anderson and vocalists Paul Adrian, Jr. and Russell Christianson.
Military honors provided by the members of Fadness-Walen V.F.W. Post #9068.
Interment at Glenfield Cemetery, Glenfield, N.D.
Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, N.D., was in charge of arrangements.

Donald S. Eliason
Funeral services for Donald S. Eliason, 89, Valley City, were held on Monday, September 30, 2002 at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Elissa Erickson and David Burgh lead the services. Mr. Eliason died on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Donald Severin Eliason, son of Jens and Dorthea (Olsen) Eliason, was born March 3, 1913 in Buffalo, S.D. His family moved to the Fort Ransom area when he was a young child. He attended rural school in the Fort Ransom area. He then farmed with his father. Along with his brother, Gilbert, they farmed their parents’ farm and he continued farming until moving to Valley City.
On October 18, 1955, he married Bertha Torgerson in Valley City. They made their home in Pullman, Wash., and Donald worked at Pullman State University. They moved back to Valley City in 1981. She died January 10, 1989. He entered the Sheyenne Care Center October 22, 1996.
He is survived by one brother, Gilbert (Jean) Eliason, Marys-ville, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Eliason, Renton, Wash., and Pearl Overby, Moorhead, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment at Binford Cemetery, Binford, N.D.
Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, was in charge of arrangements.
