A.L.C. Keller
The Rev. A.L.C. Keller, 92, Bismarck, died Sept. 20, 2000, in his home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Jeff Tengesdal and Robert Lynne officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. A.L.C. Keller was born March 29, 1908, in Mercer, the son of William and Ottilia (Kroenke) Keller. He was raised and attended grade school in Mercer. He moved to St. Paul, Minn., and graduated from Luther School. Following high school he attended college at Capital University and Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated in 1929. After college he moved to Carrington and started Trinity Lutheran Church. On Aug. 30, 1937, he married Margaret E. Brady in Carrington. They moved to Fargo where he built the American Lutheran Church (which is now Peace Lutheran Church). In 1957, he moved to Irvington, Calif., where he again started an American Lutheran Church. They moved to Bismarck where he served as chaplain for the North Dakota State Industrial School (Youth Correctional Center). They moved to Detroit, Mich., and served a church, then to Jamestown, where he served as pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church. They returned to Bismarck in 1975 where he served as chaplain at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, until his retirement in 1995. During his retirement, A.L.C. would help out and serve various area churches. The Rev. Keller was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he lead a Tuesday Morning Men's Bible Study. He was a lifetime member of Bismarck and Century High School's Booster Clubs. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid high school sports fan. A.L.C. especially loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting events. The Rev. Keller was well-known for his joke-telling and his great sense of humor. He has always been known for his eternal optimism and was a living example of his faith and love of family. The Rev. Keller is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and John Burdekin, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Miriam and Steven Gilbertson, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Judie Keller, Bismarck; nine grandchildren, Mark, Stephen and Timothy Matson, Kari Shea, Lori Balzer, Jeff Keller, Michael Boyd, Kristin Richter and Taya Fosland; 15 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Grace, Faith, Jillian, Peter, Ryan, Ryne, Michael, Amanda, Sara, Tyler, Tanner, Tjaden, Alexa and Drew; and special friends, The Rev. Robert and JoAnn Lynne. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1995. The family requests memorials be given to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. (Eastgate Funeral Service)

Aloys Lewis Rohrich
STRASBURG -- Aloys Lewis Rohrich, 77, Strasburg, died Sept. 21, 2000, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by two half-brothers, Joe Kelsch, and Alvin Kelsch, both of Linton; two step-brothers, Tony Kelsch and Gregory Kelsch, both of Linton; one sister, Magdalena Fischer, Linton; one half-sister, Loretta Burgad, Linton; and one step-sister, Alice Eberle, Eugene, Ore. Gertrude W. Schaefer
Gertrude W. Schaefer, 89, Bismarck, died Sept. 16, 2000, in a Sioux City, Iowa, care center. Services will be at noon Monday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. A rosary also will be said at 7 tonight at Marillac Manor, Bismarck. Gert was born Oct. 31, 1910, in Windsor, the daughter of August and Anna (Schultz) Wanzek. She attended St. John's Academy in Jamestown, graduating as valedictorian at age 16. She attended St. Alexius School of Nursing and obtained her R.N. in 1932. She worked for Drs. Henderson, Goughnor and Orr at Capital City Clinic, which later became Q&R Clinic. She also was a staff nurse at St. Alexius in the Psychiatric Department for 12 years and as a staff nurse at St. Vincent's. Gert married Raymond Schaefer in 1933, and they had six children. She taught square dancing with him in Bismarck for 46 years. Gert was a member of Church of St. Mary, St. Mary's Altar Society and Catholic Daughters for almost 70 years. Gert is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ree Klinkhammer, Lafayette, Calif., Mary Pat and Tom Severin, Dakota Dunes, S.D., and John Raffaelle, Glen Carbon, Ill.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Mary, Fargo, Mike and Mary, Orangevale, Calif., and Tom and Bernadette, Lancaster, Wis.; 22 grandchildren; and three brothers, Joe Wanzek, Preston, Iowa, Phil Wanzek, Surprise, Ariz., and Robert Wanzek, Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; one daughter, Jackie Raffaelle; two brothers; five sisters; and one son-in-law, Paul Klinkhammer. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

FORT YATES -- Kenneth Snider, 62, Fort Yates, died Sept. 22, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Albert W. Swanson
HARVEY -- Albert W. Swanson, 75, Harvey, died Sept. 21, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Al and Robert, both of Harvey; two daughters, Diana Roe, Burlington, and Dorothy Anderson, Butte; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Straight and Evelyn Berends, both of New Richmond, Wis., and Marie Bossart, Truman, Minn.; and one brother, Kenneth, Occan Springs, Miss. Anthony W. Giesen
MAKOTI -- Anthony W. Giesen, 79, Makoti, died Sept. 23, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Makoti. Further arrangements are pending at Johnson Funeral Home, Parshall.

Mary M. Hoffman
Mary M. Hoffman, 80, 208 Second St. N.E., Mandan, died Sept. 23, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Monday. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30, both at the funeral home. Mary Kautzman, the daughter of Emanuel K. and Agnes (Knoll) Kautzman was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Mandan. She was raised and educated in the Crown Butte area. On June 12, 1945, she married Peter R. Hoffman in New Salem. Mary was employed by Morton County Social Services for 15 years. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters, the St. Joseph Circle and the Cursillo. Her faith was an important part of her life, attending daily mass. She looked forward to spending her winters in Arizona as walking was a regular part of her recreation along with playing cards which she enjoyed in various card clubs for 27 years. Her hospitality was noted especially as a great cook having mastered some of the old German recipes. Generous, forgiving, simple tastes and patience are but a few of the words that describe this special lady. These brief memories are but a few of the cherished memories by friends and family. Mary is survived by her husband, Peter; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Jane, Billings, Mont., Dorlyn and Nadine, Steele, and Dennis and Connie, Billings; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Darlene Schmidt, Anoka, Minn., Dianne and Larry Goodwin, Champlin, Minn., and Dannette and Mark Barth, Billings; 13 grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George E. and Maggie Kautzman, Mandan, and Anton E. and Rose Kautzman, Yakima, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Frank and Emil; and three sisters, Minnie Ferderer, Rose Gratz and Kathryn Bender.

RAY -- Ethel Jacobson, 91, Ray, died Sept. 23, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

WILLISTON -- Francis Johnson, 91, Williston, died Sept. 22, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Evelyn Arleen McBridge
DICKINSON -- Evelyn Arleen McBridge, 86, Dickinson, died Sept. 23, 2000, in a Dickinson care center. Memorial services will be held at a later date. HAZEN -- Esther E. Mettler, 72, Hazen, died Sept. 23, 2000, in the Mandan care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Susan E. Morey
DICKINSON -- Susan E. Morey, 81, Dickinson, died Sept. 23, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by four daughters, Kathy Fisher and Mary Smith, both of Dickinson, Patti Dutke, St. Paul, Minn., and Geraldine Koppinger, Parker, Colo.; one son, Terry, Dickinson; two sisters, Mary Remacle and Lucille Johnston, both of Howard, S.D.; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Marjorie E. Schmidkunz
Marjorie E. Schmidkunz, 81, Bismarck, died Sept. 23, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Lincoln, with the Revs. Jo Olson and Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home, 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent's Care Center, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Marjorie was born March 23, 1919, at Enderlin, the daughter of Ward and Lizzie (Bruem) Galbreath. She was raised and educated at Enderlin, after graduating from high school, Marjorie entered St. Alexius School of Nursing, graduating from nurses school in 1940. Marjorie married Alex Neff, Oct. 12, 1941, in Los Angeles. During World War II she practiced her profession in many cities and hospitals when she followed her husband in his military assignments. After the war they lived in Wing for several years, where they owned and operated the A&M Cafe. In 1951, they returned to Bismarck and Marjorie began her employment at St. Alexius, where she worked until her retirement in1976. Alex died in 1965. Marjorie was an extensive traveler and had a museum in her home, including a spoon and plate collection from places she visited in her travels. She also worked as a cashier for Wagner Auction for many years. On May 23, 1978, Marjorie married Howard Schmidkunz in Bismarck. They enjoyed gardening and sold produce at the Farmers Market. They also enjoyed camping and dancing. Howard died in 1995. One of the greatest joys in Marjorie's life was her "special adopted grandson," Jeremy J. Mertz. They have shared a very special relationship since his birth. She entered St. Vincent's Nursing Home in 1994, after the amputation of both legs due to diabetes. Her acceptance of her physical handicap was inspiration to others. Marjorie will be missed by her brothers, Wyman, Enderlin; many nephews and nieces; her grandson, Jeremy Mertz; her special friend, Marlene Mertz; the staff and her many friends at St. Vincent's; as well as other friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Peace Lutheran Church or St. Vincent's Care Center Special Memorial Fund.

Adolph A. Schultz
ARNEGARD -- Adolph A. Schultz, 72, Arnegard, died Sept. 22, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Wilmington Lutheran Church, Arnegard, with burial in Wilmington Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three sons, Clint, Grenora, Mark, Arnegard, Larry, Arnegard; one daughter, Becky Scchultz, Williston; step-children, Randy Ribaudo, Great Falls, Mont., Mary Fay, Glasgow, Mont., and Sally Guon, Dallas; two brothers, Martin, Williston, and Carl, Arnegard. Kenneth Snider
FORT YATES -- Kenneth Snider, 62, Fort Yates, died Sept. 22, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with the Rev. Casimir Paluck with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Military committal will be conducted by the Albert Gress American Legion Post of Fort Yates and committal tribute by the Lakota Thunder Drum Group. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today and will continue at the church one hour before services. A vigil service will begin at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Kenneth was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Fort Yates, the son of Louis and Rose (Thomas) Snider. He was raised in the Fort Yates area and graduated from Standing Rock High School. He entered into the service in 1958 and 1959 SP5 and served another year during the Berlin Conflict. He married Karen Ann Kinsella on Aug. 24, 1960, at St. Joseph's Church in Mandan. He served as deputy sheriff, county sheriff and county commissioner of Sioux County over a period of 28 years. He was a member of Albert Grass Legion Post of Fort Yates and the North Dakota Sheriff's Association. He is survived by his wife, Karen; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven, Selfridge, Scott and Nancy, Denver, and Kenneth and Rabecca, Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Susan and Ralph Gelvin, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Shari Snider, Bismarck; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, Pete Snider, Bill Snider and Leo Snider, all of Mandan, and Mike Snider, Fort Yates; and three sisters, Rosie Skaaden, Bottineau, Dorothy Richholt, Idaho, and Linda Metzger, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack and Joe Snider.
