Nora R. Meland
Nora R. Meland, 96, Gillette, Wyo., and formerly of Bismarck, died Oct. 30, 2000 at Gillette. A memorial service will be scheduled this summer in Driscoll with burial at that time. Nora Meland was born Nov. 6, 1903 in Glenfield, the daughter of John and Josephine (Johnson) Hendrickson. Nora graduated from the Glenfield School and Valley City State Teachers College. She married Clifford Meland on June 12, 1936 at Jamestown. Following their marriage, they lived in Driscoll until they moved to Bismarck in 1953. Nora was a teacher in North Dakota for 27 years, having taught at Driscoll, Cathay, Harvey, and at rural schools in Foster County. She was a member of the Bismarck Police Department for 15 years, where she served as a Policewoman and Juvenile Officer. She was then the Executive Secretary for the Bismarck Red Cross for five years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Peace Officers Association, Bismarck BPW, Bismarck Zonta and past matron of the Steele Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Kay Meland, Mesa, Ariz.; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Robert Innes, Gillette; two sisters, Elva Silliman, Park River and Leila Anderson, Leonard; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; two brothers and one sister. (Wilson Funeral Home, Gillette)

Evalyn Marie Nelson
HARVEY -- Evalyn Marie Nelson, 94, Harvey, died Oct. 30, 2000 in the Rugby care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Myhre, Rugby; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Irma Bellon
ELGIN -- Irma Bellon, 84, Elgin, died Feb. 22, 2001, in the Elgin nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Monday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Alta Eslinger, Elgin; one son, Jeray, Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Milta Zimmerman, Elgin. Alice Mae Emineth
Alice Mae Emineth, 73, Bismarck, died Feb. 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and will continue one hour before services. Alice Mae was born May 24, 1927, in Bismarck, the daughter of Alex and Vera (Grambling) Stewart, early pioneers of Burleigh County. She attended country school and later attended Bismarck High School. She attended the Bible Presbyterian Church southeast of Bismarck. She married George Emineth on June 24, 1953, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Carson. She worked at Capital Laundry, St. Alexius Central Supply, Baptist Home, Motel 6 and Comfort Inn. She enjoyed horseback riding, country music and fishing with her husband, George. Alice Mae will be remembered as a happy-go-lucky person. She is survived by one son, Kevin, Bismarck; one grandson, Russell Emineth, Grand Forks; one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Raymond Carlson, rural Mandan; one brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Rose Stewart, rural Menoken; one niece; and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; and one son, Gary.

Joseph H. Kautzman
Joseph H. Kautzman, 56, Duncan, Okla., formerly of Bismarck, died February 21, 2001, during a lung transplant in Oklahoma City, Okla. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Harold Archer, Marlow, Okla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Rachelle, Seattle, Wash., and David and Dee, Marlow, Okla.; eight grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Deb and Jeff Helbling, Lincoln; and one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Darlene, Mandan.

Doris Michelson
Doris Michelson, 84, Bismarck, died Feb. 22, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bill Keple and Donald Burnett officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Martin Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight and 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Doris (Sunde) Michelson was born June 14, 1916, the daughter of Andrew and Asta Sunde in Valley City. She attended Valley City State Teacher's College and Minot State Teacher's College, and graduated with a teaching degree from Mary College in Bismarck. She married Harold Michelson and together they taught in the schools at Rosebush at Orrin, Denbigh, Bergen and Barton. They then taught in Martin, Willow City, Minot and Bismarck for a total of 30 years. While in Bismarck, she taught at Grimsrud School and her husband, Harold, worked as director of secondary education for 17 years. They both retired in 1980. She was baptized at the age of 13 in the Valley City Baptist Church. For many years she was a member of the Martin Baptist Church and when they moved to Bismarck she and Harold then joined Bismarck Baptist Church. She was interested in music and art. She did solo work, sang in choirs and played piano and organ for church. She did oil painting until she lost her ability after a stroke. They did extensive traveling in the United States, several European countries, Africa and the Holy Land. She is survived by her husband, Harold; two sons, Donald and his wife, Darlene, Sun City, Ariz., and Ralph and his wife, Beverly, Waite Park, Minn.; two daughters, Janet and her husband, David Greer, Cambridge, Minn.,and Marlys and her husband, Terry Burke, Bismarck; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her father, Andrew Sunde; her mother, Asta Sunde Janzen; one sister, Alice Greene; and one brother, Paul Sunde.

Leslie W. Olson
LEEDS -- Leslie W. Olson, 54, Leeds, died Feb. 21, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lebanon Free Lutheran Church, Leeds, with burial in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Harlow. He is survived by two daughters, Teri Johnson, Leeds, and Laura Olson, Langdon; three grandchildren; his mother, Louise Olson, Leeds; two brothers, Ray, Harlow, and Kevin, Reynolds; and two sisters, Carolyn McGarvey and Lorie Stuberg, both of Leeds. Randy Roberts
JAMESTOWN -- Randy Roberts, 49, Jamestown, died Feb. 22, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. He is survived by his wife, Tawna; one daughter, Amy Davis, West Warwick, R.I.; two stepdaughters, Miranda Walden, Twin Falls, Idaho, and Nicki Stocking, Jamestown; two stepsons, Tyler Stocking, Jamestown, and Austin Stocking, Jamestown; one granddaughter; two brothers, Lane, Redmond, Ore., and Melvin Caylor, Okanogan, Wash.; and two sisters, Susan Roberst, Maysville, Ariz., and Julie Miller, Aloha, Ore.

Joseph A. Schmidt
LINTON -- Joseph A. Schmidt, 29, Linton, died Feb. 23, 2001. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Fern Standing Crow
FORT YATES -- Fern Standing Crow, 56, Fort Yates, died Feb. 22, 2001, in the Fort Yates hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by one son, Leo, Fort Yates; five daughters, Judy Standing Crow, Poplar, Mont., Juanita Miner, Pine Ridge, S.D., Joann Standing Crow, June Standing and Elizabeth Standing Crow, all of Fort Yates; her mother, Elizabeth Chasing Hawk, McLaughlin, S.D.; one sister, Mary Ann Helper, McLaughlin; and two brothers, Delbert Chasing Hawk, Fort Yates, and Everette Chasing Hawk, Bismarck. Edward N. Teske
Edward N. Teske, 71, 1727 N. Ninth St., died Feb. 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today and 1-7 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Ed was born Jan. 29, 1930, at Steele, to Edward and Dorothy (Wise) Teske. He was raised and educated in Steele and graduated in 1948 from Steele High School. On July 6, 1952, he married Evangeline "Vangie" Dockter. They were married 48 years. Ed worked part-time during high school for Wallin Motors in parts and service and full time upon completion of high school until 1977. He then went to work for Tierney Chevrolet, later Puklich Chevrolet, as a parts man. He retired in 1995 and drove bus for Harlow's Bus Service until 1999. Ed enjoyed singing and sang with the Northern Lights Chorus, Elks Chorus, church choir and men's octet in his church. He also participated in the musicals during the Kidder County Fall Fairs and was a charter member of the Steele Ambulance Service. He is survived by his wife, Vangie; one daughter and one son-in-law, Ronda and LaVern Kuchynski, Bloomington, Minn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Hideko Teske, Shelton, Wash.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, LaVerna and Ron Nelson, Fort Worth, Texas, Marilyn and Joe Bitz, Bismarck, Geraldine Teske, Tustin, Calif.; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, LeRoy Teske, Bismarck, Robert and Esther Teske, Garland, Texas, David and Bonnie Teske, Wadena, Minn., and James Teske, Mandan; four grandchildren, Tania Teske, Sarah Kuchynski, Rodney and Catherine Teske; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Austin Teske. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patricia; and one brother, Gene.

Nellie Parker
Nellie Parker, 83, St. Charles, Iowa, died Oct. 30, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Calvary Baptist Church, St. Charles, with burial in the St. Charles Cemetery. She is survived by her son, Dean, Truro, Iowa; her daughter, Judie Seibel, Bismarck; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. (Kale Funeral Home, Truro, Iowa)

George Peterson
MCCLUSKY -- George Peterson, 77, McClusky, died Oct. 30, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. today at North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. George was born on Feb. 16, 1923, near Mercer and was the son of Anders P. and Josephine (Moskvil) Peterson. He grew up on the family farm in Sheridan County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He attended rural school, the Mercer High School and graduated from the McClusky High School in 1942. In September of 1942, he entered the U.S. Army. He served in Europe in the 11th armored division and was in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. In Jan. of 1946, he was discharged and returned home and farmed with his father. He married Sybil Ness on Sept. 2, 1950 in Turtle Lake. They lived and farmed southwest of Pickardville all their lives. He was also a rural letter carrier for 27 years. George is survived by his wife, Sybil; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robin and Chris, Grand Forks, and Terry and Theresa, Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Connie Peterson, Bismarck, Susan and Tucker Simes, McClusky, Patti Peterson-Balliet and her husband, Richard Balliet, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brothers, Lawrence, Bismarck, Leif, Flagstaff, Ariz.; and Nels, Burlington, Wash.; and one sister, Hanna Peterson, McClusky. George was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons, Clyde and Eugene; and his brothers, Anders Peter, Jr., and Norman (Heckon).

Benjamin Rivinius
Benjamin Rivinius, 80, 1418 N. 16th Street, Bismarck, died Nov. 1, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Lydia Schilling
WISHEK -- Lydia Schilling, 90, Wishek, died Nov. 1, 2000 in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Lydia was born Aug. 12, 1910, near Venturia, the daughter of John and Rose (Perman) Fetzer. Lydia grew up on the family farm and received her elementary education in rural McIntosh County Schools. Lydia continued to live at home until her marriage to George C. Schilling on Nov. 11, 1928 at Venturia. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Venturia, and later moved to a farm north of Wishek in 1956. In the late 1960's, they moved to Wishek, where she has made her home since that time. For the past six years, Lydia has resided in the Wishek Nursing Home apartments and in February of this year she moved into the nursing home. Lydia was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek, the church's ladies aid, Wishek Homemaker Club, Wishek Hospital Auxiliary, an active member of the Wishek Senior Citizens, and she was a former Sunday School teacher and in her later years, taught adult Bible study at the nursing home. Lydia enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and raising a large garden as her hobbies. She will be remembered as a good cook and she always had something to eat around the house. Survivors include: three sons, Marvin (Muriel) Schilling, Bismarck, Delmar (Della) Schilling, Wishek, and Harvey (Diane) Schilling, Bismarck; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and special friends, Pete and Marge Keaveny, one sister, Ann Smith, Stockton, Calif., a half-brother, Clarence Fetzer; and a special niece, Phyllis Borkowski, Boling Brook, Ill., who lived with the Schilling family for eight years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; three sisters, Ida Schilling, Martha Esslinger, and Agnes Motz, and two brothers, William Fetzer and Art Fetzer.

Wendelin Schumacher
LINTON -- Wendelin Schumacher, 88, Linton, died Oct. 31, 2000 in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Christina, Linton; two sons, Joseph, Mandan, and Markus, Kaiserlauten, Germany; six daughters, Paulina Jangula, Zeeland, Mary Ann Gefroh, Linton, Angeline Bernhardt, Mashpee, Mass., Mildred Hudson, Gillette, Wyo., Marcella Busswell, Harlington, Texas, Victoria Lange, Washburn; 27 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Klein, Strasburg. Ethel Smith Sherwin, 102, formerly of Bismarck, died Oct. 25, 2000 in Vancouver, Wash. She is survived by two sisters, Norma, Belfield, and Ila, California; her brothers, Hubert and Lloyd, both of Vancouver, Wash.

Olive Abbott
STEELE -- Olive Abbott, 90, died Nov. 2, 2000, at the Steele nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Steele. Further arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
