NEW ROCKFORD -- Peter M. Allmaras, 35, Eagan, Minn., formerly of New Rockford, died Nov. 1, 2000, in a Minneapolis hospital after battling cystic fibrosis. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, New Rockford. He is survived by his mother, Anne Allmaras, New Rockford; one brother, Jeff, Encinitas, Calif.; and six sisters, Noel Evans, Bismarck, Julie Engberg, Hankinson, Elizabeth Allmaras, Eagan, Minn., Paula Allmaras, Fargo, Rose James, Springhill, Fla., and Mary Erman, New Rockford. Frances E. Bergland
Frances E. Bergland, 70, Mandan, died Oct. 31, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charles Axness officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Frances was born Nov. 26, 1929 in her parents farm home 12 miles southeast of Elgin, N.D., the daughter of Albert and Lora Marie (Brost) Krause. She was raised and educated there, attending country grade school in Rock Township, graduating from Elgin High School in 1947 and from St. Alexius School of Nursing in 1950. She married Rolf Berg in 1951 and lived on a farm near Maddock. In 1965 she married Jarl Bergland. They lived in Northwood and she helped raise his three daughters, Debra, Jill and Janet. She was employed in either a nursing or hospital administrative position at Maddock, Northwood, and Valley City, and Sturgis and Spearfish, S.D. Frances is an alumni member of the Mary College School of Nursing, Bismarck. She had lived at Liberty Heights in Mandan for the past seven years and had enjoyed her friends and fellow pinochle players at the Golden Age Club. She is survived by her brothers, Wayne and his wife, Kathy, Rapid City, S.D., and Maynard and his wife, Ardella, Mandan; one niece, Debra A. Krause; four nephews, Brant Krause and his wife, Mary, and family, Mark Krause and his wife, Terri, and family, Bob Krause and his wife, Sandra, and family, and Jon Krause and his wife, Mary, and family; her special friends, Marge Ketterling, and Claude and Florence Wold, all of Bismarck; and all her friends at Liberty Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Lutheran Church, 408 Ninth St. N.W., Mandan, ND 58554. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Eleanor Buckman
BELFIELD -- Eleanor Buckman, 94, formerly of Belfield, died Oct. 31, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Belfield. Burial will be in Belfield Lutheran Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Franklin, Dickinson; three children, the Rev. Dr. Allan, St. Louis, Mo., Yvonne Gatz, Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Douglas, Bismarck; two sisters, Erma Treiber, Bismarck, and Esther Rose, Arizona; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lavern R. Clemens
LINTON -- Lavern R. Clemens, 69, Linton, died Oct. 31, 2000, at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Burial will be in St. George's Catholic Cemetery, Cooperstown. She is survived by one daughter, Beth Duncan, Mulvane, Mo.; three grandchildren; one brother, Henry Clemens, Buxton; and one sister, Adeline Sholey, Linton. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Charles E. Coulter
WILLISTON -- Charles E. Coulter, 96, Minneapolis, formerly of Williston, died Oct. 29, 2000, in Minneapolis. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Everson Funeral Home, Williston. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. He is survived by one son, Donald; two daughters, Mary Peterson and Linda Jennings; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

John C. Dixon
PARSHALL -- John C. Dixon, infant son of Donovan and Tana Dixon, Parshall, was born and died Oct. 30, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Congregational Church, White Shield. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his parents; five brothers, Dusty, PJ, Matthew, Durwin and Tevin; and five sisters, Paige, Tyra, Traci, Brittany and Daun.

Philomene Jollie
BELCOURT -- Philomene Jollie, 88, Belcourt, died Oct. 31, 2000, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt. Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery. She is survived by four daughters, Carol Ann Crissler, Wahpeton, Rosie Grant, Bismarck, and Phyllis Cartwright and Jeanie Jollie, both of Belcourt; one son, David, Belcourt; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Harold Kaiser
Harold Kaiser, 77, Bismarck, died Nov. 2, 2000, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis Jr. officiating. He will be loved and missed by one daughter, Vickie Martin; one son, Tim Kaiser; two grandchildren, Joe and Renae; and one brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Darlene Kaiser, all of Bismarck; four sisters, Viola Rittle and Louise Brown, both of Bismarck, Katherine Rittle, Mandan, and Ann Web, Tacoma, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katherine; and six brothers, Bill, August, Jake, Albert, John and Bob.

Ida M. Sauter
CARSON -- Ida M. Sauter, 91, Carson, died Nov. 1, 2000. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Saturday at Emmaus Congregational United Church of Christ, Carson. Burial will be in Emmaus Church Cemetery, rural Carson. She is survived by one son, the Rev. Orville, Minneapolis; two granddaughters; three sisters, Louise Zimbelman, Lodi, Calif., Emilie Finck, Carson, and Rose Karow, Madison, Wis.; and one brother, Alvin Scheerer, Auburn, Ind. Joseph Schwab
STRASBURG -- Joseph "Juddy" Schwab, 75, Strasburg, died Nov. 1, 2000, in the Strasburg care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. tonight at the church, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Joseph Schwab was born April 21, 1925 on a farm six miles northeast of Strasburg, N.D., the son of John and Magdalena (Baumgartner) Schwab. He attended a rural school and St. Benedict's School. Joe helped on the family farm before entering the U.S. Army in 1944. He served in the European and African Theaters during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Strasburg and his family farm. On June 14, 1948, he married Imogene Schwahn at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. They made their home on a farm until 1950 when he went to Fargo to attend Molar Barber College. They returned to the family farm and in 1975 moved into Strasburg. Joe was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a member of the Exter School Board and a charter member of the Strasburg VFW. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Imogene, Strasburg; six sons and two daughters-in-law, Dennis, Milwaukee, Wis., Duane, Bismarck, Daryl and Shirley, Everett, Wash., Daniel, S. Milwaukee, Wis., John, Bismarck, and Joseph A. and Angela, Fargo; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Mike Swiatek, Milwaukee, Mary Jo and Mario Sanislao, Bozeman, Mont., Lanette and David Wald, Bismarck, and Charlene and Dave Durski, Milwaukee; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother, Magdalena Schwab, Strasburg; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Larry and Evelyn, Strasburg, John, San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and James and Edna, Strasburg; and five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Florence Klein, San Juan Capistrano, Irene and Jim Lipp, Milwaukee, and Laverne and Jim Feist, Beloit, Wis., Antonia Baumgartner, Milwaukee, and Clara and Jim Huber, Mandan. He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Clarence.

Rose Stein
Rose Stein, 96, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died Nov. 1, 2000, at the health center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Rose Stein was born Sept. 13, 1904 in Russia, to Martin and Martina Stein. After her birth the family moved to the United States, and she was raised and educated in Center, N.D. She lived most of her adult life in Bismarck where she worked as a housekeeper. Rose was very devoted to her faith in the Lord. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a very generous person. She is survived by one sister, Edith Berg, Wahpeton; one sister-in-law, Lillian Stein, Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Chris Stein; and three sisters, Caroline Pfliger, Elizabeth (Betty) Maison, and Mary Christianson.

Ted Wetzel
STEELE -- Ted Wetzel, 85, died Nov. 2, 2000, in the Steele nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Olive Ruth Abbott
STEELE -- Olive Ruth Abbott, 90, Steele, died Nov. 2, 2000 in the Steele nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at United Methodist Church, Steele, with the Rev. James Cissell officiating. Burial will be in Dawson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Steele, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Olive was born March 14, 1910 on the family farm south of Dawson, the daughter of Wesley Fletcher and Lillie Mae (Stuart) Nicholson. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school at Jamestown Academy. She attended Valley City State University where she received her Bachelor of Science. On Oct. 19, 1940, she and Paul Jennings Abbott were married at her parents' home south of Dawson. Following their marriage, they moved into Dawson. On July 11, 1943, they had a son, Bruce Jennings Abbott, he died on Oct. 24, 1943. Paul passed away on Sept. 8, 1991. Olive taught for 38 years in rural schools in Kidder County, in the Dawson elementary school and in the Steele-Dawson School. She retired in 1979. Olive was an active member of the Dawson Congregational Church. She belonged to Ladies Home Circle, Homemakers Club, and Fortnightly Club in Dawson. She moved to Steele and lived with Lois Arusell until entering Golden Manor. She had numerous hobbies and interests, but her major interest was loving children. She was a much loved surrogate mother to numerous nephews and nieces. Olive is survived by her brothers, Leslie, Tappen, and Walter Loraine, East Bethel, Minn.; her sisters, Hazel Little, Park Rapids, Minn., and Lois Arusell, Steele; as well as numerous nephews and nieces; great nephews and great nieces; and great-great nephews and great-great nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son; her parents; her brothers, Clifford and Orville; and her sisters, Myrtle Vick, Dorothy Woessner and Eunice Eichele. BORDULAC -- Lois M. Buckley, 68, Bordulac, died Nov. 3, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Mary L. Gartner, 88, Mandan, died Nov. 3, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Benjamin Rivinius
Benjamin Rivinius, 80, Bismarck, died Nov. 1, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Honor Guard and flag presentation by the American Legion Post No. 1. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Ben was born on a farm in McLean County, northeast of Coleharbor, on Sept. 6, 1920, the son of Eduard and Christina (Henne) Rivinius. He received his grade school education in rural schools and his high school education in Garrison and Coleharbor, graduating from Coleharbor High School in 1939. At the age of 16 his family moved from the farm to the town of Coleharbor. After two years at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, he went to work as a clerk for Red Owl in Plentywood, Mont. He was soon transferred to Minot. Due to the war crisis, Lockheed Aircraft was recruiting help. He applied and went to work in Burbank, Calif. Soon after the raid on Pearl Harbor, he received his greetings from Uncle Sam. Ben served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight engineer from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. While stationed in Galveston, Texas, he met and married Evelyn Standley. After his discharge they moved to Bismarck. Ben was employed in the electric service department of MDU for 13 years. In 1959, he started Ben's Electric, which he operated for 25 years. After his retirement, he spent many hours on various lakes and rivers fishing and enjoying the sights and sounds of wildlife. The inclement days were spent indoors building an assortment of articles in his woodworking shop for his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks and Eagles, and continued to be a member of the Masons, American Legion and AMVETS. Ben is survived by four children, Ronald Rivinius, Mandan, Susan and Richard Paul, Billings, Mont., Stanley Rivinius, Golden, Colo., and Sandy and Vince Williams, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, Julie (Rivinius) Bogden and her husband Shane, Edmonton, Alberta, Tanya (Paul) Fuher and her husband Rich, Bismarck, Joe Rivinius, Bismarck, Becki (Paul) Santiago, Billings, Mont., Ron Rivinius Jr., Fargo, and Jacinta Rivinius, Wesley Rivinius, Anna Rivinius, Colby Ereth, Morgan Williams and Madison Williams, all of Bismarck; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Martin and LaVern, Bismarck; two sisters, Erna and Homer Zimmerman, Oakesdale, Wash., and Edna and W.A. Becker, Hettinger; and a dear friend, Lorrine Mehlhouse, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn in 1995; his parents; one sister, Esther; one grandson, Michael Rivinius; and one great-granddaughter, Joy Kephart. The family prefers memorials to McCabe United Methodist Church.
