Marlyn N. Walock
Funeral services for Marlyn N. Walock, 66, Horace, N.D., were held on Monday, September 30, 2002. Mrs. Walock died on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Innovis Health, Fargo.
Marlyn Nadine Peterson, daughter of Napoleon and Mary (Kyle) Peterson, was born June 8, 1936, in Englevale. She grew up and attended school at Verona. She worked at the creamery in Lisbon.
On June 17, 1956, she married Bryce Walock at Englevale. They traveled south for a short time before making their home in Fargo where they lived for nine years. They later moved to the Horace area where they have resided since.
She is survived by her husband, Bryce Walock, Horace; one son, Shane (Rhonda) Walock, Horace; one daughter, Sherri (Dwight) Horning, Fargo; her mother, Mary Peterson, Moorhead; four grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny Peterson, Valley City, and Gordon (Brenda) Peterson, Oregon; five sisters, Iona Toyne, Lisbon, Lillian Brewer, West Fargo, Lois Mammenga, West Fargo, Shirley Stoppleworth, Washington, and Phyllis Jackson, Washington.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Roger Mammenga, Jim Brewer, Jeff Konen, Randy Huether and David Walock. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, nephews and nieces, Bob Walock, and everyone in attendance.
Music was provided by organist Pam Beckius and soloists Joanne Lee and Marlys Keen.
Interment at Horace Lutheran Cemetery, Horace, N.D.
West Funeral Home, West Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Asche
Funeral services for Betty Asche, 64, Gwinner, were held on Friday, November 29, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gwinner. Reverend Kirk Douglas officiated. Mrs. Asche died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Rochester Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Betty Rose Lautt, daughter of Riney and Agnes (Stuber) Lautt was born on December 24, 1937 at Chaseley, N.D. She attended grade school in Chaseley and graduated from Chaffee High School in 1956. Betty attended Valley City State College, and taught first through eighth grades in a country school near Wyndmere.
On March 6, 1959, she married Dale Asche, in at Embden, N.D. They farmed in the Milnor and Gwinner area. In 1996 Betty and Dale were chosen the Outstanding Agriculturists for Sargent County. Betty worked as a teacher’s aide and also in the food service department at North Sargent Public School in Gwinner. She also worked in the housekeeping department at Sargent Manor, in Forman and was a caregiver for her grandchildren. Betty was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and officer in the LWML. She was a 4-H leader for the Gwinnerette Juniors and a band mother for North Sargent Public School. She was a member of the Gwinner Civic Club, Gwinner Community Development Corporation, Gwinner Glads Garden Gals, Milnor Merry Mixers Square Dance Club and the Gwinner Oil bowling team.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Asche, Gwinner; three daughters, Marcia (Sparky) Engquist, Gwinner, Marlene (Max) Koschmeder, Oronoco, Minn., and Karen (Jay) Enderson, Gwinner; seven grandchildren; her mother, Agnes Lautt, Fargo; two brothers Jim (Eleanor) Lautt, Fargo and Harley (Sharon) Lautt, Enderlin. She was preceded in death by her father and her twin sister, Jane Marie.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Rodney Asche, Greg Nelson, Kevin Lautt, Scott Klemetson, Roger Asche and Kalvin Greuel.
Music was provided by organist Margie Hopkins, pianist Janet Nelson, and soloist Laura Nelson.
Interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Gwinner.

Iven G. Falk
Funeral services for Iven Gustav Falk, 70, were held on Saturday, November 30, 2002, at Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead, Minn. Mr. Falk died Sunday, November 24, 2002 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Iven G. Falk, son of Gustav and Florence (Kingen) Falk was born on November 29, 1931 in Lisbon. He grew up and received his education in Lisbon and in Montana, where the family lived for a few years. The family returned to Lisbon and Iven graduated from high school there in 1949. On July 26, 1949, Iven entered the U.S. Navy. He served aboard ship in the Mediterranean Sea, and was discharged on July10, 1953. After his discharge, Iven attended and graduated from Mayville State University in Mayville, N.D.
On August 9, 1957, he married Mavis Rhodes at Lawton, N.D. Following their marriage, they made their home in Fargo. Iven taught school for a short period of time at Ulen, Minn. He worked from 1958 until 1990, in the business office of North Improvement Company in Fargo. In 1967, the family moved to Moorhead, where they had lived since.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Falk, Moorhead; three sons, J. Scott Falk, Moorhead, Gregory D. Falk, Wadena, Minn. and Rodney J. Falk, Ottertail, Minn.; his mother, Florence Tierney, Philipsburg, Mont.; a brother, Dale E. (Judy) Falk, Enumclaw, Wash.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Gustav, and a son, Barry, who died on July 5, 1984.
Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Wesley Maley
Funeral services for Robert Wesley Maley, 58, Verona, were held on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Verona. Reverend David Isaacson officiated. Mr. Maley died on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at his home under hospice care.
Robert Wesley Maley, son of John Wesley and Berniece (McCann) Maley, was born on September 17, 1944 in Oakes. He graduated from Verona High School in 1963. Bob entered the U.S. Army in May 1965, serving his county in the Dominican Republic until May 11, 1967. He was active in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1971. Bob worked road construction until opening Bob’s Bar in Verona, which he owned and operated until 1987.
On January 11, 1973, he married Deb Gemar. He received his certificate in electronics from Southeast Vocational Center, Oakes. He managed the Oakes American Legion Club until starting at the Verona Elevator in 1994, where he was manager at the time of his death.
He is survived by one son, Wesley Maley, Verona; three daughters, Reva (Chad) Bohnenkamp, Oakes, Angie (Tim) Bollinger), Monango, and Monica Maley (fiance Scott Hanson), Gwinner; three grandchildren; two brothers, John “Jackie” (Pat) Maley, Seattle, Wash., and Gerald “Jerry” Maley, Fargo; three sisters, Cookie (Ken) Jensen, Fargo, Lois (Herb) Hill, Spearfish, S.D., and Mary (Randy) Nelson, Oakes; one sister-in-law, Marie Maley, Fargo; and one brother-in-law, Gary Sandness, Verona. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Maley; and one sister, Betty Sandness.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Craig Maley, Jerrod Sandness, Ryan Hill, Travis Maley, Corey Sandness, Broch Hill, Jason Maley and Tyler Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were Bob’s grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Marlene Dahl and soloist Wayne Strander.
Jones-Benoit American Legion Post #178 presented the military rites.
Interment at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Verona.

Bertha Meier
Funeral services for Bertha Meier, 64, Verona, were held on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Verona. Father Mathew Pamplaniyil officiated. Mrs. Meier died on Friday, November 22, 2002 at Elim Care Center, Fargo.
Bertha Malard, daughter of Charles and Hazel (Brown) Malard, was born December 6, 1937 in Bismarck where she grew up on a farm south of Menoken, N.D. and attended Telfer School.
On January 27, 1957, she married Julius Meier in Bismarck. The couple moved to Pierre, S.D. In 1959, they moved to Zeeland, N.D. where they farmed on the Meier family farm. In 1974, they moved to Oakes. She worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center. They moved to Verona in 2000. In October 2002, Bertha entered the Elim Care Center, Fargo.
She is survived by her husband, Julius Meier, Verona; six sons, Andy Meier, Jamestown, Calvin Meier, Glover, N.D., Clarence (Millie) Meier, Menahga, Minn., Leroy Meier, Oakes, David Meier, Verona, and Eugene Meier, Jamestown; one daughter, Kathy (Cory) Anderson, Oakes; three brothers, Leon (Leah) Malard, Bismarck, Eugene (Mary) Malard, Moffit, N.D., and Elroy (Tina) Malard, Menoken, N.D.; five sisters, Marie Harr, Evelyn Clooten, and Anna (Gene) Gabel, all of Bismarck, Charlene (Dwayne) Gabel, Washburn, and Eunice (Kenny) Rants, Hebron, N.D. 20 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, twins Kathryn and Carolyn Malard, and Beatrice, Irene, and Norma.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Bertha’s six sons, Andy, Calvin, Clarence, Leroy, David and Eugene Meier.
Music was provided by organist Vesta Olderness and soloist Mari Schmitz.
Interment at Our Lady of Sorrow’s Catholic Cemetery, Verona.

Clifford Stanley
Funeral services for Clifford Stanley, 90, Milnor, were held on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at United Methodist Church, Milnor. Reverend Jack Erickson officiated. Mr. Stanley died on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 in the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown.
Clifford Stanley, son of Logan and Bessie (Kern) Stanley, was born June 26, 1912 in Grand Forks. He grew up and attended school in Milnor, graduating from Milnor High School. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead and also attended Ellendale Normal College.
On December 24, 1938, he married Muriel Munroe in Lisbon. He worked in the Barnes and Ransom County courthouses in North Dakota before moving to Milnor. He managed the Milnor Improvement Liquor Store until he retired in 1992.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan (Jerry) Syverson, James-town; seven grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Stanley, Moorhead. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Muriel Stanley; one son, Doug Stanley; one brother and one sister.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Cliff’s grandchildren, Seth Syverson, Dannel Stanley, Rosetta Stanley, Grant Syverson, Joshua Syverson, Drew Syverson and Shea Stanley.
Music was provided by organist Carol Ydstie.
Interment Lakeside Cemetery, Milnor.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor, was in charge of arrangements.
