Daniel Leno
Daniel Leno, 76, Bismarck, died Jan. 20, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. James Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Daniel Gottlieb Leno was born Nov. 30, 1924, at Tuttle, N.D., the son of Daniel and Emelia (Bechthold) Leno. He was raised and educated in Tuttle, graduating in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving until 1946. He took part in the naval engagements off Leyte, Luzon and Okinawa, and was always very proud of having served his country. Upon his return from service, he married Delores Biech on Nov. 23, 1947, in Tuttle. They farmed together in Tuttle until moving to Bismarck in 1955. He then became a guard at the North Dakota State Penitentiary until he went to work for the Bismarck Police Department in 1957. He retired as Lieutenant of Detectives in 1977. He continued to work as a private investigator. His years of being a public servant were always a high point of his life. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and a member of the Armed Guard. Daniel loved to hunt and fish but his first love was always his family, whom he so dearly loved. Daniel is survived by his wife, Delores; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerome and Debbie Leno, Tempe, Ariz., and Kirby Leno and Brian Leno, both of Bismarck; one grandchild, Kari Ann Leno; one great-granddaughter, Daria; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Kenneth Steele, Redfield, S.D., Catherine and Jake Brose, Longmont, Colo., and Clara Trautman, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Fred; and five sisters, Emelia, Eva, Hattie, Alvina and Pauline.

Richard P. Miller
Richard P. Miller, 80, Mandan, died Jan. 21, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Henry J. Sadowsky
DICKINSON -- Henry J. Sadowsky, 78, Dickinson, died Jan. 20, 2001, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson. He is survived by his wife, Rose; seven children, Bonnie Gabel, Ken Sadowsky and Curt Sadowsky, all of Dickinson, Vernice Senner, Bloomfield, Mont., Cindy Schneider, North Bend, Wash., and Nancy Willoughby and Tracie McGehee, both of Renton, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Emma Chalupnik and Dorothy Bren, both of Dickinson; and one brother, Edward Sadowsky, Dickinson. Don Sletto
DICKINSON -- Don Sletto, 56, Dickinson, died Jan. 19, 2001, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in the spring in Dickinson Cemetery. He is survived by his mother, Verona Sletto, Dickinson; one son, Danny, Dickinson; and one sister, Linda Porten, Lorton, Va. Phyllis E. Weigum
DICKEY -- Phyllis E. Weigum, 84, Dickey, died Jan. 20, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Adrian. Burial will be in Dickey Cemetery. She is survived by three children, Jannis Smith, Columbus, Ind., Dianne Becker, Bismarck, and Richard Kopp, Gaithersburg, Md.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Ruth Schwake, Two Rivers, Wis. Frank Weisgerber
Frank Weisgerber, 80, Bismarck, died Jan. 19, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Frank was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Bismarck, the son of Joseph and Amelia (Boesflug) Weisgerber. He was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1938. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942, and served in the Southeast Pacific Theatre as a platoon sergeant with the 251st Army Hospital. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Bismarck. Frank married Ardell Davison on Feb. 12, 1949, in Bismarck. He enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard and was called to active service during the Korean Conflict. During this period, he served as assistant adjutant in the 164th Infantry Regiment. He returned to North Dakota Army National Guard in 1952. Frank continued his career with the National Guard and was promoted to chief warrant officer in 1965. He retired from military service on Nov. 4, 1980, and for his outstanding record of achievement in the field of personnel administration, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. Frank is survived by his wife, Ardell; two daughters, Mary Weisgerber, Mandan, and Linda Weisgerber, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Gail Weisgerber, and Mark and Julie Weisgerber, all of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Michael, Kimberly, Rebecca and Jennifer; two sisters, Monica McCrorie, Boise, Idaho, and Catherine Kucera, Bismarck; and two brothers, John Weisgerber, Bismarck, and Robert Weisgerber, Seattle. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Matthew Weisgerber.

Helen West
Helen "Penny" Toman West, 55, Lynnwood, Wash., formerly of Mandan, died Jan. 19, 2001, at her home. Further arrangements are pending. She is survived by her husband, Terry West; and one sister, Patricia Toman Eck, Bismarck. Memorials can be sent to the Seattle Center for Cancer (Fred Hutchinson Center), 1100 Fairview Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98102.

John Broxmeyer
John Broxmeyer, 71, Bismarck and Riverdale, died Feb. 2, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after a brief confrontation with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Further arrangements are pending.

Douglas B. Heen
Douglas B. Heen, 80, Lawrence, Kan., formerly of Devils Lake, died Feb. 2, 2001, in a Lawrence, Kan., hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, Kan. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence. He is survived by his wife, Helene, Lawrence; one daughter, Ellie Baer, Lawrence; two sons, George, San Francisco, and Bruce, Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Matt Hoff
Matt Hoff, 73, Bismarck, died Jan. 31, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Matt was born Feb. 20, 1927, in New Salem, the son of Ralph and Anna (Hoff) Hoff. He was raised and educated in New Salem. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1950. On Oct. 28, 1953, he married Agnes Dilger. They moved to Bismarck in October 1955, where they raised their family. He worked for Bridgeman Dairy for 35 years and retired in 1990. Matt was a past member of the Eagles and the Moose, and was a member of the St. Mary's Central High School Booster Club for 46 years. He enjoyed all sports and playing cards. He will always be remembered for playing pinochle and enjoying playing bingo in his later years. Matt enjoyed his grandchildren to the fullest. He was always willing to help anyone. He is survived by his wife, Agnes, Bismarck; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Kim and Marilyn, Oceanside, Calif., Keary Hoff and Verna Hoover, Kirk and Tami, and Ken and Melanni, all of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Darcy and Terry Hochhalter, Mandan; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Starla Hoff, Kim Jr. and Lesley Hoff, Adam Hermsen, Janell Kempf, Brent Hoff, Andrew and Kaitlyn Hoff, and Corey and Eric Hochhalter; six great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Irma Hoff, Helena, Mont., Harold and Ann Hoff, Center, Ralph and Caretta Hoff, Fargo, and Larry and Bette Hoff, Crookston, Minn.; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Beatrice Zander, Mandan, Margaret and Leander Ternes, Bismarck, and Dorothy and Bernie Bohl, Minot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Anna; two brothers-in-law, Richard Zander and Dallas Jackman; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel Hoff and Clara Brown.

Lynn Jordre
SHEYENNE -- Lynn Jordre, 90, Sheyenne, died Jan. 31, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Eden Lutheran Church, rural Sheyenne. Burial will be in Eden Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sheyenne. He is survived by his wife, Berniece; two sons, Lorren, Sheyenne, and Ronald, Minot; one daughter, Sheryl Hanson, Jamestown; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three brothers, Irvin, Bismarck, and Clarence and Ernest, both of Oberon. Roger N. Pister
Roger N. Pister Sr., 50, Ulysses, Kan., died Feb. 1, 2001, in a Kansas hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, Kan. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, Ulysses; his mother, Helen Pister, Harvey; two sons, Rodger Jr. and Darrick, both of Ulysses; two daughters, Elizabeth Andazola, Syracuse, Kan., and Angela Orosco, Ulysses; two brothers, Gary, Ulysses, and Ron, St. Joseph, Mo.; three sisters, Connie Ensz, Bismarck, Ruth Edwards, Ulysses, and JoAnn Martwick, Drake; and six grandchildren.

Loren Schap
FARGO -- Loren Schap, 79, Fargo, died Feb. 1, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo. He is survived by his wife, Freida, Fargo; two daughters, Sister Patricia Schap, Bismarck, and Sharon Renier, Fargo; one son, Dallas, Fargo; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, William, Ormond Beach, Fla.; and one sister, Gurneith Johnson, Pelican Rapids, Minn. Rodney R. Thorsness
OAKES -- Rodney R. Thorsness, 47, Oakes, died Jan. 29, 2001, in a Fargo hospital after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. He is survived by two sons, Ryan and Orin, both of Salem, Ind.; one daughter, Crystal, Salem, Ind.; his mother, Marjorie Thorsness, and stepfather Gene Olafson, both of Jamestown; four brothers, Brian, Philomath, Ore., David and Bruce, both of Foley, Minn., , and Wade, Fargo; one stepbrother, Clinton Olafson, Jamestown; and two stepsisters, Valerie Johnson, Beulah, and Sheila Lagodinski, Fargo. Arnold Bratz
COLEHARBOR -- Arnold Bratz, 74, Coleharbor, died Feb. 3, 2001, at his winter home in Yuma, Ariz. Further arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

John Broxmeyer
John "Brox" Broxmeyer, 71, Bismarck and Riverdale, died Feb. 2, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after a brief confrontation with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home with Chaplain Burnie Kunz officiating. John was born June 10, 1929, in Bismarck, the son of John and Irene (Tavis) Broxmeyer. He attended school in Bismarck and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1947. John was very active in sports where he excelled in football and basketball. John entered the U.S. Air Force in 1948, where he received an Air Force Commendation Medal. Upon retirement he married Sharon (Boelter) Eslinger April 7, 1967, in Bismarck. He was an avid fisherman and loved sports. He was known for his cooking abilities and his infamous personality. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Linda Hanson, Hampton, Va., Terry and Ron Grasshoff, Prairie Du Sac, Wis., Judy Broxmeyer, Des Moines, Iowa, and Gayle and John Miller, Jodi and Earl Hathaway, and Terry and Scott Marvin, all of Denver; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Renee Eslinger, Bismarck; nine grandchildren, Michael Hanson, Rusty Hanson, Nicole Eslinger, Ashley Eslinger, Cori Miller, Dustin Miller, Kayse Hathaway, Maura Grasshoff and Ian Grasshoff; two sisters, Lois Becker and Eileen Lehmann, both of Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Walt and Delores Broxmeyer, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Alena Broxmeyer, Bismarck; one brother-in-law, Steve and Karen Boelter, Bismarck; and special friend, John Kronberger, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the HELP Center of Masonic Temple, Bismarck.
